Cannot wait for Keep's story!' Hope kip is settling in well.

Glad all is ok Kitty

Good to hear from you Bumpie. I've signed up for NCT and I'm also doing a hypnobirthing course I'm January!

Woohoo to maternity leave Sweeie! What have you planned this week?

How you doing Solars?

Are you feeling any better Pen? Sorry you're not enjoying your pregnancy. That must be tough. I'm sure your scan will make you feel better though Wink

How you doing Trix? Counting down the days till may leave?! Not long now!!

cartoontrickster · 11/11/2013 09:33

maybe 6wks left. this week I am testing going in later. I've been so tired and tearful. then with all our classes etc starting too I will be even more knackered. if I really struggle perhaps ill stop work sooner but hopefully not.
sweetie we just got some books and a rattle. not much in the way of unisex items. boo was right about needing sharp elbows I couldn't believe the amount of people and the pushing and shoving. could look at everything properly because of it.
we have our hospital visit tonight. Confused I will have to try and block out any screaming from ladies giving birth.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/11/2013 10:09

6 weeks will fly by Trix. Hope a later start works out ok. If you can't manage it though, don't force it, just not worth it Smile

Nearly new sales sound scary!!

BlindKitty · 11/11/2013 12:44

bumpie my friend did the nhs ones and the nct. She said the people doing the nhs ones were really rough lol so I'm going to stick with nct! Probably depends on where you live mind!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/11/2013 12:55

I'm doing NCT and the NHS ones. As that's the only way we can get any info on the labour wards/birth centre, as my hospital doesn't do tours. Seen as the NHS ones are free, I thought it would be best to do both!

cartoontrickster · 11/11/2013 13:00

im doing both too. my nct ones start on Wednesday.
well tbh I'm still tired, but I didnt sleep well and still woke up earlier than I needed to. but ill see how I get on the rest of the week.

GenericDietCola · 11/11/2013 13:58

Where's keep?! Come on, we want your sneeze birth story!

Re NCT classes, well worth it I reckon, I'm still friends with my group after more than 4 years.

cartoontrickster · 11/11/2013 14:21

I've just had an email from the woman who will be running my nct classes. she mentions bringing your birth ball if you have one, where to buy one if not and what size etc it needs to be. she says she has a few spares but I'm worried now should I have purchased a birth ball?!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 11/11/2013 15:01

I had one at home anyway Trix to help my backcountry to get labour going, also in case I did go into labour it was there ready :)

Keep if your lurking between feeds and snuggles hope you and DD are getting along and enjoying all your cuddle time, now put her down and tell us all about it Grin

OP posts:
EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 11/11/2013 15:02

Not my backcountry I didn't put that much weight on Blush just my back. My point was it is a handy thing to have anyway.

OP posts:
cartoontrickster · 11/11/2013 15:14

haha boo I did wonder what you ment Grin . I haven't thought much at all about Labour and what I want. so a birth ball hadnt occurred to me until now.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/11/2013 15:18

Grin Boo!! Sid you find it helped your back? Mine is so sore, ill give anything a go!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 11/11/2013 15:34

It was very comfy to sit on and really helped my back, I was able to do some small exercises rocking and pelvic tilts that really helped stretch it out gently when it was sore plus it was so much fun to do big bounces trying to get K out

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/11/2013 15:35

I'm sold Boo. The dog will love it Wink

SweetieTime · 11/11/2013 15:35

hmm birth balls, the midwife on our twins course recommended them for preventing slumping and encouraging baby into the right delivery position. As I wasn't going to be giving birth I sort of ignored her but now I am reconsidering. I think you can get them quite cheaply from Argos or Amazon. I am still not sure as when I am sat down I keep my feet up and there is no way I can see how to do this while sat on a birth ball. She did also recommend sitting on a high backed dining chair turned the other way so you have to widen pelvis around it back IYSWIM

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 11/11/2013 15:39

You can get them quite cheap on amazon but because I'm a tight wad I'm more budgeted I just used a normal gym ball that took my weight. Managed to aquire a brand new one from my local Facebook page for £3. And you're right Sweetie backwards on a chair wickets help.

OP posts:
Stacks · 11/11/2013 15:57

For our nct classes they said you could bring a birth ball, but it was actually only if you wanted to sit on one instead of the chairs. All nct classes are different though, so I guess you may need one. You could email them back in sure.

I've just been lurking as I'm feeling tired and nauseous and just down right sorry for myself. Combine that with the non stop Duracell DS and lurking is about all I can handle :) I'm sure things will get better soon though.

cartoontrickster · 11/11/2013 17:10

I think I will borrow one to start with and see how I get on with it before I buy one.
stacks sorry your struggling. must be tough when you already have a child.

SweetieTime · 11/11/2013 17:58

Trix I think that is a good plan. I am not sure when you are supposed to start using it. It must only work when baby is engaged, so at the very end of pregnancy.

Stacks sorry you're having a tough time of it at the moment. It must be even more difficult with DS in tow too. Hope you feel better very soon.

I have a friend coming over this evening. I would prefer her to come at a weekend but she knows her own mind. I hope she doesn't stay too long, she has a 4 yo so must remember how it is in the latter stages of pregnancy. I might wear my pjs to drop a not very subtle hint Wink

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/11/2013 18:33

Good plan Sweetie Grin

Sorry to hear you're feeling rough Stacks. Lurk away, but remember we are here for support x

musicalmrs · 11/11/2013 19:23

Sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish Stacks. Brooking that you feel much better soon.

I loved my gym ball! I bought a cheap normal one from a supermarket (after checking it would take my weight). Used it from about the third trimester- as someone with a bad back I found it very useful. Not sure how much it helped with engagement etc.. but I spent a lot of time bouncing on mine while knitting a baby blanket and watching DVDs when overdue Grin

Stacks · 11/11/2013 19:56

I'm fine really, and I know so many people find the first trimester so much worse. I just struggle with tiredness at the best of times, I've always really hated being tired and will happily sleep whenever I get the chance. It causes arguments between DH and I - he spends the day complaining about being tired, but then won't go to bed! It makes me sooo angry at him, even without the preg rage. I get "I'm so tired..." All day long, then at bed time "what are you doing?" "Reading twitter" arghhhhh!!

The gym balls are great. Also, nct friends of ours found it settled their colicky baby too. Get screaming baby, sit on gym ball and bounce. Perhaps they remember the movement?

keepitgoing · 11/11/2013 20:42

So after a busy day out on Saturday we came home and thought we'd have a bit of a rest. I have been having braxton hicks contractions a lot for several months, and was getting more of these. I thought I'd have a bath to stop them, but while I was in the bath my waters broke and so we called the hospital and they told us to come in to be checked out even though my contractions were only just starting after my waters broke. By the time we were in the car the contractions were every 3 minutes or so, though not hugely painful. We got there and more of my waters broke in the waiting room.
After I was examined they said I was just 3cm and without very strong contractions, and offered me the chance to go home and have a bath and paracetamol, or to go to the MW birth centre and basically do the same thing. As I felt the contractions had started very quickly and were getting more painful I decided not to go home.

The birth centre wouldn't give me anything except paracetamol or codydramol at that point and (very slowly) ran me a bath. I felt that the bath helped with the warmth, but I also felt I'd be better upright, and the contractions were getting quite a lot stronger. I went back to our room to ask for more drugs, but although noone had examined me in 90 minutes they said I was still in early labour and wouldn't give gas and air yet. I was starting to get a bit stressed that this was early labour although I was having very quick strong contractions they didn't seem to notice. They then offered me an internal to see where we were but actually couldn't do it very easily as there was almost no break between contractions. Dh insisted they give me gas and air, and then the internal showed that I was fully dilated and could start to push! I was very relieved as I'd been imaging potentially another 10 hours or something and had been about to ask for an epidural if they'd said I was 5 or so cm.

I was remembering nct's advice on letting the contractions do the pushing, especially as I was sure mine were doing a pretty good job as it had all been so fast. I gave birth on my knees leaning on the raised part of the bed - which was great for me if a bit hard on the MW's neck!

We wanted delayed cord clamping and the cord pulsed for over 20 mins, so we just did skin to skin, while I was in shock and shaking - I think from the speed of it all. After dh cut the cord we gave it a while for the placenta to deliver naturally but after 10 mins and a bit of pushing we decided to have the injection. A couple of grazes but no stitches. Afterwards I don't know if it was the gas and air or the injection or what, but I vomited quite a lot, then felt much better. So she was born just before 10pm, almost exactly four hours after my waters broke. We stayed in the birth centre till about 2.30 am before I went up to the ward and dh had to go home.

I have no idea why the labour was so short and they were all surprised it was my first baby. I think because it was short I wasn't too tired. I wished I had known earlier how fast things were progressing as it was a bit stressful thinking that transition was early labour... Obviously there was no time for the waterbirth, but overall it was an amazing experience for both of us.

Solars · 11/11/2013 20:52

Hi

I have been looking at birth/gym balls over the last week! How great you're all talking about it. I'm starting to feel quite uncomfortable on the sofa now, sometimes ending up sitting on the edge to keep my back straight. My SIL had a birthing ball which we used to sit on when we visited them so I was going to ask about her about it this week. I've seen gym balls in TK Maxx which were at a reasonable price. From my extensive research I've read that you should have 65cm for if you're up to 5'9" and 75cm if you're taller.

I'm good thanks Maybe a little tired today so will probably be off to bed soon. I woke up at 4 am to use the bathroom and couldn't get back to sleep, so I totally sympathise with those of you feeling tired today.

Sorry for the lack of personals but I think the tiredness has got to me today goodness knows what I'll be like when the baby comes

Solars · 11/11/2013 20:53

Eek, Keep cross post!
