SweetieTime · 11/11/2013 21:07

keep amazing birth story. a proper sneeze birth by the sounds of it. I am glad you had such a great experience and congratulations again to you and MrK Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

DinoSnores · 11/11/2013 21:22

Lovely story, keep. Thanks so much for sharing! How are you all getting on?

TheLittleFriend · 11/11/2013 21:22

What a wonderful story Keep, congratulations again. The bit about worrying that transition was early labour rang very true for me, I remember that feeling from when I had my dd!

GreenOlives · 11/11/2013 21:26

That's a great birth story keep - you did a fabulous job! Can't wait to see pics and find out name Grin Grin Congratulations again Thanks Thanks Thanks

ThedementedPenguin · 11/11/2013 22:22

keep that is an amazing birth story. I really hope my labour is like this. Smile she is gorgeous and her name is beautiful. How are you finding it all? Has the shock wore off?

I've not been too bad recently, not feeling as bad. Although very tired. Hoping ds starts to sleep through soon although I doubt it but fingers crossed.

maybe how's the eating going? I've found it really hard to eat proper meals in a decent amount. I cooked dinner tonight but was stuffed so quickly that it was a real waste. Think I'll have to half my meals and eat more often until I sort something out.

If you are going to buy a birthing ball research the size you need. I borrowed one off my sister but it was the wrong size for me, was too small and it ended up really hurting my back. I spent two weeks on it and ended up in quite a bit of pain. This time I'll maybe buy one that's the right size.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 11/11/2013 22:46

I've learnt to eat smaller portions Pen. I know my limits now, so don't bother trying to push it!! I also find that I need to eat what I really want, not just making do with things. I can't eat lumps of meat, I was trying to force myself, but it wasn't worth it. I can eat mince so that's my compromise! You just need to find what works for you. Snacks are good too.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 11/11/2013 23:15

Keep what an amazing birth story well done for knowing your body so well and remembering your nct advice even though it all happened so fast. Lansinoh is is good for nips, bit pricey but good! I've had a nosey over on Facebook, she is beautiful! Congratulations to you both Thanks

Fab story keep! Congratulations Smile

BlindKitty · 12/11/2013 06:57

keep amazing story. Your birth position made me think of what my nct trainer friend said once..'whatever you do don't give birth on your back, it's like pushing a bus up a hill!'. Hoping for a birth just like yours!

cartoontrickster · 12/11/2013 07:56

Sad I never rejoined fb. can I have a pm of her name?
keep I can't believe it was so quick, well done you. as everyone else has said I hope my turn is like that. how is everyone settling in at home? Thanks
I didn't hear a single grunt or groan at the hospital last night I almost wonder if there was anyone actually there having a baby at the time! did get a glimpse of some babies though.
I wouldn't say the visit was particularly informative but its nice to know where you will be and see it so its sort of familiar when your there for real.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/11/2013 16:42

That's good Trix! Our hospital doesn't do tours, but I'm hoping they'll explain procedure at the antenatal classes. When do your classes start? Can't be long now!

Hope you're doing well Keep Smile

How's everyone else?

RubberBullets · 12/11/2013 18:31

I did the tour at the MW unit where I intended to give birth but ended up at the maternity hospital instead :o

cartoontrickster · 12/11/2013 21:08

my nct ones start tomorrow maybe I'm doing the NHS ones too, since they're free but they don't start till early December. I'm quite excited!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/11/2013 22:13

I can well imagine!! I'm excited about starting mine too!! Hope it goes well tomorrow Smile

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 12/11/2013 22:22

Just popped on to check Keeps birth story. I can't believe how quick it all was! It sounds like everything went really well. I haven't seen kip as I'm not on the FB group. Can someone pm me her name please? Congrats again Keep to you and MrKeep. I'm very happy for you both xx

TheLittleFriend · 13/11/2013 07:15

I've pm'd cups,

Hope those starting antenatal groups enjoy them. I still have some very good friends from mine. And there is nothing as useful as a friend whose first child is the same age as yours for sharing ideas and worries with Smile

cartoontrickster · 13/11/2013 09:34

its nice to hear so many of you made good friends at your classes, I hoping to do the same.
I wonder if anyone can advise me a bit on my latest worry, position of the cot! I've read that it shouldn't be in direct sunlight (surely you just close the curtains?) or near a radiator. where ever I put the cot it is near the radiator and window. I can put it along side where there will probably be a small gap in between but at least half the length of the cot will be along side the radiator or so as the foot of the cot is directly opposite but gives a much bigger space between cot and radiator. am I thinking to much about this? really is it common sense just to make sure the baby isn't too hot?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/11/2013 10:47

Hello all! I'm not sure I should really be here yet, but I've got a very slow day at work ahead of me with no one to read over my shoulder so I thought I'd pop in. I got a pretty strong BFP this morning, so I'm somewhere between 4 and 5 weeks pg (stupid long cycles! I'm actually on CD37 and only getting proper lines on the sticks now). I'm not quite ready to phone for a booking appt yet, I think.

Keep, what a lovely birth story! And little Kip is so cute! How are your nipples now? Use bucketloads of Lansinoh even if it feels like there's no point because as soon as you put it on Kip wants to feed again. And spread some breastmilk over them and let it dry in (before you do the Lansinoh!).

Cartoon, will the baby start off in the cot or in a Moses basket beside your bed? I would go for near the window rather than near the radiator, because like you say you can shut the curtains, but I do think it's just common sense. You know how warm your house is and whether you have drafty windows or not, so don't worry about it! I wouldn't put a newborn baby next to a radiator, but if he or she (do you know which it is?) isn't going to be using the cot until they're a bit bigger then it doesn't matter so much.

Stacks, how many weeks are you now?

cartoontrickster · 13/11/2013 11:55

hi too congrats! Thanks have you done a digi. I love a worded confirmation! remind us of your story, I know your a second time brooker and we've briefly met.
I don't know which flavor I have on board, mine is known as treats here.
baby will be in our room to begin with I guess until it outgrows the moses basket. how long do people generally keep baby in their room for?
I have just realised I could potentially have the same radiator problem in our bedroom. how close is too close?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 13/11/2013 14:27

Great to see you over here Too Grin.

Trix do you have separate thermostats on your radiators? If so, you could maybe turn the bedroom one right down when treats is in the Moses basket/cot?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/11/2013 14:29

Thanks, cartoon! No, I've done 3 Tesco cheapies over 3 days - first line was practically invisible to the naked eye, second marginally better, and this morning's was much clearer! I'm going to be at my sister's tonight but I have promised to do a FRER on Friday and put pictures on FB.

Most people seem to keep the baby in their room for as long as they fit in the Moses basket. The advice is now to keep the baby in with you until 6 months (it's to reduce cot death risks), but in practice, most people seem to be able to fit a Moses basket but not a cot into their room. I have a v big Moses basket and a short child so managed to keep M in with me until she was 5 months.

I don't know how close is too close! You could always turn it off if you were worried, mind you. If the baby was sweating, maybe? Newborn babies aren't very good at regulating their body temperature, and the MW/HV will probably tell you to keep the house pretty warm at first, so it might not be a bad thing to have Treats near the radiator. When I was in hospital I was roasting, and begged to have the window open but they wouldn't let me in case M got cold. Next morning they took her temperature and said it was a bit raised - I said yes, that's because she's been lying on me for the last 6 hours and I'm boiling! I got DH to sneakily open the window before he left the next day and no one noticed - M and I were much comfier. Once home, the MW told us our house was too cold and M needed more layers of clothes - she said she needed a vest, babygrow, cardigan and 2 layers of blanket in a house at 20 degrees. She was only 6 lbs 5 and was losing weight, though. We whacked the heating up to 24 degrees - everyone who came in was panting and shedding clothes for weeks until we dared relax again!

My story in brief: I joined the Brookers' grad thread when I got pregnant with M in June/July 2011. DD1 was stillborn in March 2011, so I needed a lot of handholding through my second pregnancy. M was born in March 2012 and is now 20 months old. The Brookers were absolutely invaluable to me during pregnancy and most of the first year with a baby!
