Thanks, cartoon! No, I've done 3 Tesco cheapies over 3 days - first line was practically invisible to the naked eye, second marginally better, and this morning's was much clearer! I'm going to be at my sister's tonight but I have promised to do a FRER on Friday and put pictures on FB.
Most people seem to keep the baby in their room for as long as they fit in the Moses basket. The advice is now to keep the baby in with you until 6 months (it's to reduce cot death risks), but in practice, most people seem to be able to fit a Moses basket but not a cot into their room. I have a v big Moses basket and a short child so managed to keep M in with me until she was 5 months.
I don't know how close is too close! You could always turn it off if you were worried, mind you. If the baby was sweating, maybe? Newborn babies aren't very good at regulating their body temperature, and the MW/HV will probably tell you to keep the house pretty warm at first, so it might not be a bad thing to have Treats near the radiator. When I was in hospital I was roasting, and begged to have the window open but they wouldn't let me in case M got cold. Next morning they took her temperature and said it was a bit raised - I said yes, that's because she's been lying on me for the last 6 hours and I'm boiling! I got DH to sneakily open the window before he left the next day and no one noticed - M and I were much comfier. Once home, the MW told us our house was too cold and M needed more layers of clothes - she said she needed a vest, babygrow, cardigan and 2 layers of blanket in a house at 20 degrees. She was only 6 lbs 5 and was losing weight, though. We whacked the heating up to 24 degrees - everyone who came in was panting and shedding clothes for weeks until we dared relax again!
My story in brief: I joined the Brookers' grad thread when I got pregnant with M in June/July 2011. DD1 was stillborn in March 2011, so I needed a lot of handholding through my second pregnancy. M was born in March 2012 and is now 20 months old. The Brookers were absolutely invaluable to me during pregnancy and most of the first year with a baby!
