Bedtime yet?

FrankelInFoal · 12/09/2013 15:11

I'm knackered too MummyPig - another early night on the cards for me!

Shall we agree to not use fruit/veg when comparing baby size? I like the idea of picking a random object and I'm guessing, looking around my desk, that The Foal must be about the size of my calculator Grin

MTBMummy · 12/09/2013 15:16

oh and to answer the question bump is called flea after a short lived plan to name the poor child AethelFlead

MummyPig24 · 12/09/2013 15:39

I remember reading somewhere that at 12 weeks baby is the size of a credit card.

Prambo · 12/09/2013 15:40

Lyra, thanks for your reply (and I will try the butternut squash thing, too). I'm chortling at the radioactive lemon and Curly Wurly comments. Can't they just say 'your baby is now the size of a rather inadequate four-inch knob'?

I just bought 1.2kg of stewing steak from Tezzer's for £8. Is this reasonable? I wish I knew more about prices of meat and what cuts are best for which dish.

I'm going to take a little break from posting on mumsnet. I am really struggling coming off these antidepressants and I feel I have nothing supportive to say and everything that comes out of my mouth is not what I intend. I feel murderous and unreasonable and I've already jumped down Meg's throat, which is completely unforgivable and you're all way too lovely to be having to read my grouchy posts. I will see you all soon and will still be reading, of course xx

justmuddlingthroughit · 12/09/2013 16:14

Great news on the scans baking and raisin! Mine went very well; definitely just the one in there, who was very obligingly in a nice position to be measured and stayed that way the whole time. So mine and dh's child is currently well behaved, co-operative and relaxed. I am very aware that this may be the last time I ever say this.

Officially dated at 12 +3, giving a due date of 24th March. Just one day later than the early scan said, and way out of the one predicted by my dates, which is pretty much as I thought! NT measured at 1.4, so hopefully the bloods should come back fine. Oh god, the bloods.... I have very small veins, and am a nightmare for anyone trying to take bloods. I felt genuinely sorry for the nurse, who wouldn't stop apologising for turning me into a human pin cushion as she tried both arms, then the back of a hand. Eventually she got an anaesthetist in to do it, and for the first time, I had blood taken from the side of my wrist.... Fucking hurt, but I'm sure ill go through worse over the next few months!

We're telling our families tonight, FINALLY. Grin

HotCrossPun · 12/09/2013 16:19

Glad to hear your scan went well muddling Have you got any flamboyant plans for telling your parents? Or are you going for a more straightforward approach? [Grin]

LyraSilvertongue · 12/09/2013 16:47

Don't go, Prambo! This place won't be the same without you, grumpy or not. Hope the no-anti-D situation settles down soon.

Glad the scans went well. We have some more tomorrow, yes?

LyraSilvertongue · 12/09/2013 16:49

Oh, and my cut-price Co-op stewing steak says £10.67 per kg on the packet, so looks like you got a good price.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 12/09/2013 16:53

Oh Prammy don't go lovely. I will miss you too much Sad

Great scan news Just! Poor you on the bloods. Sounds like a nightmare!

I too think you got a bargain on your steak Prammy. God, I miss meat.

HotCrossPun · 12/09/2013 17:30

I reckon we will be on to a new thread by tomorrow morning.

Has anybody started to glow yet? Or had a sudden burst of energy?

I'm still waiting for it and I look like a heroin addict at the mo!

Jolleigh · 12/09/2013 17:52

A miraculous thing has happened today. I'm craving fruit and veg Shock Finally!

commsgirl · 12/09/2013 18:01

Absolutely no glowing from me!

liberuna · 12/09/2013 18:04

I seem to have gone backwards. Lost my appetite and gagging at every strong smell. Only thing that makes it better is eating which I can't face. Urgh

pram don't go! How about if you limit yourself to a number of words for a couple of days? (Like text message lenght) that will focus you mentally on getting out positive stuff.

We is here for you. :)

justmuddlingthroughit · 12/09/2013 18:13

praaaaaaaaaammmmmmm! Please don't disappear, even just to lurk. We'll miss you too much Sad. Ranting about twatwaffles like that estate agent is why we're here! I understand if you want to hold off commenting on others' posts for a bit till you feel more steady and less worried about unintentionally lashing out, but we still want to know how you're doing cos I'm a nosy bint

We're just telling family over the phone; my parents are in holiday in Wales at the mo, so I'm hoping there's mobile reception where they are. Haven't prepared a clever way of telling them, was basically planning on blurting it out, but now you mention it;

CHALLENGE: whoever thinks of the best way of breaking the news to our families wins a fantastic prize bragging rights. I was thinking of something along the lines of 'so, turns out your son's penis works', to his parents. Anyone? Grin

Beccadugs · 12/09/2013 18:20

I considered saying "turns out having one testicle wasn't a problem for your son!" To my MIL.

She has since drunkenly blurted out how relieved she is that his testicle dies in fact work. She's been worrying for years apparently!!

justmuddlingthroughit · 12/09/2013 18:34

becca, that's hilarious! Your poor dh; was he there at the time she said it?

Beccadugs · 12/09/2013 18:49

No, she snuck me into the utility room at their holiday cottage...

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 12/09/2013 18:56

I can happily attest that a single testicle is no impediment to fertility. Wink

MummyPig24 · 12/09/2013 19:14

pram you can't leave us! You're the heart of the Martians!

I'm feeling a lot of movement from Nando now which is amazing!

Beccadugs · 12/09/2013 19:21

Yay saggy glad it's not just my DH!!

sunshinemeg · 12/09/2013 19:22

Evening all. I may have cracked the catching up lark, but takes a while. I scrolled back to my last post then sat with paper and pen to make notes on who to respond to and what to say. So

  1. Appointment was fine, I'm really pleased my weight hasn't changed, so in losing whilst baby is gaining!
Did find out the vein the nurses and doctors always want to use in my right arm actually has no pressure. So collapses when the needle goes in. Now have to tell anyone to go on feel not sight. Only took the NHS 29 years to figure this out!!! So they took more bloods, asked about my health, and made booking for next appointment. Discussed classes and what's next on the list. So all in all positive.
  1. Edamame - we are finding out sex if baby allows, but agreed that if one of us didn't want to know then neither would find out.
  1. PainAux - our scan was sept 2nd, the first view was fab, then baby rolled over and the view was awful. They even made me jump up and down to try and shift it, no luck, so I can fully sympathise with bad quality photos.
  1. Baking - we told the inlaws when we went to stay in the summer. We had had an early scan done so I framed that and wrapped it up. We also bought a book - how to be a grandparent. We wrapped that too. When we arrived we said we had presents for having us to stay, gave the book to FIL and photo to MIL. Left them to unwrap them and watch the look of shock. Priceless!! Oh and tears from MIL!
  1. Frankell - we have always had the nickname of ninja for each other since we first got together aged 17, so bump is now called littleninja.
  1. Rasberrys - I understand the worry about the scan, I was so nervous, convinced littleninja would be all in my imagination, all was fine, and I'm sure the same will be true for you. Good luck
  1. Prambo - please do not feel murderous and unreasonable. It was fully understandable given the pace of this forum that you would miss my hello before. I COMPLETELY forgive you, so don't feel you need to lurk. Regarding the anti depressants, I understand that too, I came off them when I found I was expecting, stay positive and take little steps, it will all be good in the end with something so very special to make it worthwhile

Think that's all! Hope I haven't taken so long to write this that the thread filled up!!! Grin

Pantomime · 12/09/2013 19:24

Hello, pretty new to mumsnet and I am not quite sure how to join in here so sorry if I have it wrong! My little stowaway is due on the 22nd of march ish and I am 12+5 at the moment. Only had about ohh a week to get my head around this little surprise (4 negative tests, it took a blood test for my doc to believe me). Its going to be my first. The only scan I have had is a dating scan and the picture they gave me is awful, I would say on par with the ufo/bigfoot/ nessie shots!

On the subject of breaking the news the baby is called the stowaway because I broke the news to the husband to be's mum by giving her the scan picture and saying I have a stowaway.

liberuna · 12/09/2013 19:40

Welcome panto and sunshine

I totally appreciate these threads move fast. I've had to start sneaking peaks at work to keep up!

General idea is a free for all. Join in when you can. Share random questions, worries and celebrations. The rule here is that you will get lots of differing opinions, some wonderful advice but never be judged. So come one come all!

Prambo · 12/09/2013 19:54

Meg, how very gracious of you to be so understanding. Thank you. Can I ask what side effects you suffered when you got to the minimum dose of antidepressants, if any? Did you feel irascible or murderous?

Welcome, Pantomime Thanks

Ladies, I really am not leaving for good, only until I feel myself. I am reading still 'cos i iz a nosy bitch and i love you all, innit Thanks
