Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FoxMulder · 12/09/2013 13:38

Thanks Lyra you make it sound eminently possible. I guess I just can't see past March 21st. Life as I know it is ending & I can't envision what lies on the other side!

FoxMulder · 12/09/2013 13:40

I'm so lucky with cars. My father in-law does it all. He's a farmer, not a mechanic, but farmers can do everything!

He got me my last car from a scrap yard. Just needed a bit of fixing up!

commsgirl · 12/09/2013 13:45

Magpie Grin at your gentle reminder.

Fox get all your relatives to meet you somewhere hot for Xmas? . Maybe fit in a couple of days work in over Xmas which will give you more freedom for holidays/relatives. I'm trying to save as much of mine as possible to add on to the beginning of mat leave but it's not easy.

Raspberry you'll be absolutely fine my lovely. Tomorrow's not too far away, just keep yourself busy until then.

Frank baby's called Pedro :).

Jolleigh · 12/09/2013 13:50

Pram - I've normally found that it asks specific earnings on the application form after they charge you a shit load for the credit checks.

FoxMulder · 12/09/2013 13:53

That would be so awesome to go somewhere hot with the whole family at Christmas, but unfortunately it's the most expensive time to go away (which is why it is extra sucky that DH has to have 2 weeks off then).

That's the other thing I want holiday for too, of course - adding to mat leave. My boss rather unhelpfully suggested I keep some back for this purpose, when I'm already freaking out about not having enough time.

Yeah, will have to do a bit of work at Christmas, I'll see what the plans are and have a good think about it.

LyraSilvertongue · 12/09/2013 13:54

Fox, it's more than doable. I even did the first trip (when DS1 was 6 months old) on my own because XP was unexpectedly away with work (bloody Iraq war). The anticipation of it was a lot harder than the actual doing. If there's two adults and one baby, it will be a doddle.

MummyPig24 · 12/09/2013 13:55

MTB I'm sure they can't force you to change. Technically we don't live in Oxfordshire so I'm probably supposed to go to RBH but I want to go to Wallingford instead and Linda said its fine. Apparently she will phone me about the 16 week appt, I don't know what she will do, squeeze me in or see me at home?

FoxMulder · 12/09/2013 13:55

I like you Lyra Smile You've cheered me up.

Prambo · 12/09/2013 14:00

Jolls, I know, I know, it was the way he threw it into the conversation almost before he'd asked me my name.

I'm off to Tesco to drive away my irascibilty. I want to make the most sublime stew and dumplings tonight and I need stewing steak. Oh, and can any of you recommend a dog's bollocks recipe for steak pie? I want to replicate the steak bakes from Greggs. What do they put in 'em??

P.s..no alcohol recipes, please. Yes, I know the alcohol boils away but I don't want to buy it or have it in the house.

commsgirl · 12/09/2013 14:02

MTB They absolutely can't force you to change hospitals, you could technically go give birth at the other side of the country if you chose to. However, they will ask you to register with your local GP if you move far enough out of their catchment (some practices are stricter than others. If you don't mention it then they obviously won't know smd you could stay. but they'll continue sending everything to your old address.

BakingEating · 12/09/2013 14:09

Frankel do you ever feel like you're having a fruit salad instead of a baby? I'm getting a bit confused by the range of fruit, veg, nuts etc that the baby is compared with. Besides, how big is a lemon? Do they mean one of the huge radioactive ones or a teeny weeny organic, unwaxed lemon?

FoxMulder · 12/09/2013 14:16

Why is it always fresh produce the baby is compared to?

fruitpastille · 12/09/2013 14:17

Lurking at the mo everybody, sorry!

Jolleigh · 12/09/2013 14:18

I feel your pain Prammy - done it many a time. I get the 'you're too young (can be substituted by other adjectives where appropriate) to afford this' treatment quite frequently. I'm rarely a smug bitch about my earnings but on those occasions, when the twats start realising I'm the customer and they're close to losing a potential tenant, I do feel quite smug.

Jolleigh · 12/09/2013 14:20

Is it Fox? I compare mine to a fun sized mars bar at the moment. Can't remember where I saw that originally though. Just seems more apt as they're not round!

commsgirl · 12/09/2013 14:22

It just makes me crave whatever fruit it is for that week, but then I feel really weird about eating it!

LyraSilvertongue · 12/09/2013 14:23

Why thank you, Fox Smile

Pram, Jamie Oliver has a great recipe, called something like Jools' favourite stew, which includes butternut squash which disintegrates into the sauce and gives it a lovely sweetness. It does include half a bottle of red wine but I'm sure you could leave that bit out and the stew would still be good.
I bought tons of stewing steak yesterday in Co-op, reduced from £4 to 99p per pack because they were on their use-by date. I'm quite happy to use beef a few days out of date if it looks/smells/tastes fine. Not sure what to make with it because I'm tired and cba with too much prep.

LyraSilvertongue · 12/09/2013 14:25

Baking, I wondered the same thing. Lemons and other fresh produce are not a standard uniform size so it's all a bit meaningless. If they said "this week, your baby is the length of a Curly Wurly", that would have more meaning.

LyraSilvertongue · 12/09/2013 14:27

Oops, Pram, just seen you want a pie recipe, not a stew recipe.
Don't go ruining that pie by slapping it between two buttered slices of Hovis.

FoxMulder · 12/09/2013 14:27

Just seems that way Jol whenever I google 'size of ... week old foetus'. Always fruit, and always round. Fun-sized mars bar is way better.

I'm still not there yet with being able to prepare food. I can eat it alright, but someone else has to think about it and make it Grin

Bugger, my first double post. I'm not even on a phone. I don't even have a smartphone for that matter.

MTBMummy · 12/09/2013 14:37

Thanks for your replies - I was tempted to phone the new surgery and ask them what the case would be - I might get a midwife who isn't completely ditzy, but would happily stick with current if it means I can go to JR

Mummy I was told the same - not sure what will happen - the receptionist said she was fully booked until Mid October

BakingEating · 12/09/2013 14:39

Mmmmm curly wurlies and mars bars....

Jolleigh · 12/09/2013 14:41

Lyra...Hovis?!? Warbies all the way my dear Wink
