Prambo Big congrats! Thanks

I've just come out of my 'maternity meeting' with HR about how much money I am not getting once I am off. Off to open a new savings account and see how much i can save by living off bread and water....Grr!Wink

rescoonetwothree · 11/09/2013 16:12

edamame all sent!

FoxMulder · 11/09/2013 16:15

Ooh, you've caved to the peer pressure Edamame! Grin

Mimili Do you get any kind of maternity pay from work or is it just going to be the statutory? Mine is the latter, sadly. Although I guess it's pretty generous. At least it is when you get paid a pittance in the first place! Smile

I know, foxy, I am weak.

mimili · 11/09/2013 16:21

Fox just the stat min for me. Which I knew anyway, I guess I was dreaming when I thought they might say 'we love you, we'll pay you 100% for a year! '

Just got confirmation of my bloods results for Nuchal testing. Low risk which was good to hear.

rescoonetwothree · 11/09/2013 16:21

we've brought her to the dark side fox!

also did someone just add me on facebook from here? I've sent a message but just asking if we know each other so as to not reveal the martian-ness, i tried lurking to see if they could be a potential martian but no evidence to suggest either way - reveal yourself.

mimili · 11/09/2013 16:21

Greymoose Just added you on Fbook :)

rescoonetwothree · 11/09/2013 16:23

Edamame, you have to post summat on fb before we can judge see you!

Beccadugs · 11/09/2013 16:45

pram I have been too busy moaning about tiredness! The boys were all really excited to find out about their upcoming uncle status, and have even decided that a) they are visiting the hospital
When it arrives, and b) a neice/nephew will be a good chick magnet!!

IceNoSlice · 11/09/2013 17:01

Oh good, you seem to like the dress Smile. Will just have a sense check from DH tonight and prob keep it.

Slippers it's actually 20% off, mentions it on the website's front page, code FRIDAY before Fri 13th Sept on any non-sale stuff.

MTB you excel geek, you. I'm an accountant so try not to get involved in excel geekery on my own time but I do love a good chart, me

It's just occurred to me...I don't know anyone who has breast fed a baby. As in, they've had a baby while I've known them and they breast fed. I wasn't even breast fed. Surely this is abnormal? Surely there should be somebody I can 'casually' ask about cracked nipples over a coffee? Suddenly feeling a lot more nervous about this decision Confused

HotCrossPun · 11/09/2013 18:53

Joll I was the same. Everybody who I'd spoken to about breastfeeding, family friends etc had told me all the bad points, but hadn't actually done it themselves. It hasn't changed my mind about breastfeeding, but it was a bit annoying. Then last week my SIL casually mentioned that she'd breastfed her baby for 6 months and it was such an amazing experience.

I could have kissed her! Grin

Rockchick1984 · 11/09/2013 18:55

Jol you can ask us :) theres also breastfeeding support groups so you can literally ask your questions over a coffee! I mix fed (breast and formula) and if I'm honest, breast was harder at first, but easier once you get used to it! Few things are worse than trying to cool a bottle down while baby is screaming at 3am! Never had cracked nipples personally, its not inevitable.

sunshinemeg · 11/09/2013 19:01

Hi all, I've got my 16 week appointment with the midwife tomorrow morning, does anyone have any tips on questions I should be asking?

LyraSilvertongue · 11/09/2013 19:07

Breastfeeding is actually a lot easier than people make out. We hear about people's bad experiences on sites like this which makes people think its fraught with problems. But the people who don't have any problems don't tend to start threads about it Wink
Don't go into it expecting any major problems because you probably won't have any. I really enjoyed it and did it for 16 and 20 months.

Jolleigh · 11/09/2013 19:27

Ta Rock, Lyra & HotCross ...I'm obviously hoping it will be plain sailing but know my mum had issues with feeding me when I was a baby. She started me on formula, but after it became obvious that I was allergic and not keeping enough down to maintain my weight, she tried breast which I promptly rejected as I obviously wasn't used to it (wouldn't even drink more than a few sips even if expressed). I couldn't keep down cow's milk either. I apparently ended up on a dodgy mix of soy milk, peanut milk and fennel juice until I was about 5 years. I've had a dodgy stomach all my life (there's chrons on my dad's side but I've not persued a diagnosis in myself) and I'm hoping to avoid any potential issues by going directly to breast in the first instance.

Edamame · 11/09/2013 19:32

Soya, Peanut Milk & Fennel Juice... ?!?! Envy

Edamame · 11/09/2013 19:35

My sis has Crohn's, it's not nice at all.

rescoonetwothree · 11/09/2013 19:35

oh god jol that sounds like something you'd find in a bath yummy mummy coffee shop - are you lactose intolerant?

Jolleigh · 11/09/2013 19:36

Lol, I wasn't clear about that I see! I would drink any of the 3 rather than the 3 mixed together! Can't stand either soy or peanut milk nowadays and honestly haven't been able to find fennel juice anywhere since...mum obviously had her sources though.

Edamame · 11/09/2013 19:37

Lyra, hope your day got a bit better Flowers
