lady I've messaged you :)

Got loads of t shirts and a credit in primary. I juat went up a size and the t shirts are stretchy and only £3 better than wasting money on proper stuff!

And my nan paid for them bless her. At least I have stuff that fits now lol

Gannetgob · 18/09/2013 15:05

The test isn't too bad. I got there at 8.30 and a midwife spoke to me about what the test involved and asked me some questions. Then I had blood taken. I then had to drink a glucose drink. It tasted like lemsip but much sweeter. I started by sipping it but then just downed it. I then had to sit for 2 hours on a really uncomfortable chair (numb bum), then have more blood taken.

I am quite low risk too, 5ammy, but I suppose its good that I'll know one way or the other. I'd rather have the test and be fine than not have the test and have GD!

How lovely of your uni friend whisper! From now on, no showers when you are alone!

yogafan · 18/09/2013 15:31

Hi all, just found out I have to have the glucose tolerance test on Friday. Dammit. Really don't want to have GD... Could I just have extra glucose in my urine from eating lots if sugar? I have been very naughty and eating loads of ice cream... Anyway, I'll find out on Monday morning. Why do you get your results gannet?

yogafan · 18/09/2013 15:31

Sorry gannet - when do you get your results (not why!)?

mumoftwoboysS · 18/09/2013 15:54

chilli I've had people say I'm huge and that I'm tiny! It's annoying and they should be more sensitive as you wouldn't normally go around commenting on people's size.

stom, whisper and all those who find the whole breast feeding thing weird or unappealing- I'm sure many women feel like that and I'm certainly no nazi breast feeding brigade (two failed bf attempts already) but don't rule it out yet. It is amazing when baby is getting all the goodness from you and very satisfying that they're content and its all down to you - you never know you may just get the hang of it and get on with it well. I'm going to try again but I'm not going to give myself a hard time if it doesn't work (ok I probably will but I'll try not to!

mumoftwoboysS · 18/09/2013 16:27

Is the glucose test only given to those with previous GD? I haven't had it before -good luck to those who are and hope its negative!

mumoftwoboysS · 18/09/2013 16:29

rose the yoga class was good. I feel fine today so guess I didn't overdo it! Had a nice relaxation bit at the end with a cushion and blanket then tea and biscuits! Also have a relaxation CD to listen to at home.

MrsShrubs · 18/09/2013 16:30

Success, the coat fits and has growing space for winter too!

This might be a really stupid question but does everyone get tested for GD or is it just if some flags are raised?

mumoftwoboysS · 18/09/2013 16:39

Me again. Anyone else so frigging hungry?! I can't stop thinking about food and want to eat TONS!!

LadyMedea · 18/09/2013 16:56

Only women with risk factors are offered the GD test:

body mass index above 30
previous macrosomic baby weighing 4.5 kg or above
previous gestational diabetes
family history of diabetes (first-degree relative with diabetes)
family origin with a high prevalence of diabetes (South Asian, Black Caribbean, Middle Eastern )

Its pretty important test as uncontrolled diabetes increases your risk for everything from stillbirth to pre-eclampsia.

thanks lady

MrsShrubs · 18/09/2013 17:16

PS mum yes me!! I was really naughty at lunch time and had a macdonalds, but OH is out for dinner tonight so I'm only planning on having toast or cereal for dinner because I can't be bothered to cook for myself by the time I get in at 7.30 tonight!

b0nker5Mum · 18/09/2013 17:18

I had the GD test because my father has type 2 diabetes... (Well the one you develop as you get older!).

I agree it was a bit of a waste of time and money... I'm not overweight and didn't have any issues before but guess they wanted to rule it out...

After the drink (yuk!) I was really faint and dizzy for the first hour and then felt a little better after the second test (once the glucose kicked in..) results were back on Sunday and all ok...!

Finally for given my maternity package at work (nothing in place currently so they had to set up a policy!) and luckily my lovely replacement helped negotiate good terms... Hopefully we'll be able to work out a way of us both working when I go back because its been lovely having someone to work with the last few weeks... I'm not planning to leave until mid nov and after leave my maternity won't kick in until a few days before baby is due!

Can't believe in 28+3 weeks already and no idea about names and nursery... Need to get a move on!! Hopefully will be finally able to move early oct!

itsliz · 18/09/2013 17:27

b0nker5 I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hasn't got a clue when it comes to names! We had a whole list of girls names sorted but now we know that we're having a boy, DP and I are stumped! Still plenty of time though (or at least that's what I keep telling myself...)

And mum you're not the only one - I've been chilling on the sofa with a magazine and a big bar of Galaxy this afternoon... And all of a sudden the chocolate is gone Blush Oops!

Stom91 · 18/09/2013 17:31

Yup I. Munched my way through half a pack of cookies last night didn't even realise til i looked down. Thought oops better but them way but really didn't want too lol.

Yeah I'm going to try bf but still freaks me out lol.

MsCatShoes · 18/09/2013 19:13

I have the full GTT test tomorrow as I have both parents as type II's, not looking forward to it particularly! At least it's a day off work though.

Feeling lonely today, don't know why. It's times like this when I wish some of my friends lived nearer or I was closer to some of the people here but because I'm always working, it never happens.

Gannetgob · 18/09/2013 19:26

I was told they would phone with my results tomorrow, so that's not so bad. I was dreading it MsCat, woke up with a bit of a headache so considered using that as an excuse to cancel, but it really wasn't bad. Just a bit boring.

I have no idea about names either. My baby is probably going to end up nameless.

Alyssa1978 · 18/09/2013 20:00

Phew!! Not just me annoyed pissed off with the huge comment Wink

I'm still being sick mum, not every day but I was ill today so I'm not really eating much at the minute.
Good luck with your results gannet and everyone lose having the gd test.

Got my official letter from work stating my maternity leave start date and the fact I get 90% wages for 6 weeks then its down to just over £100 p/w so half my monthly wages Hmm definately going back after 3 months.

Is anyone's else's boobs still hurting? Mine are killing me and I don't have any energy at all, I get out of breath walking up the stairs and the heartburn is constant......ah! The joys of being with child Grin

bonker I haven't got anything sorted yet and I'm starting to panic now, so I'm going to ask dp to take me to mothercare tomorrow so I can finish off mine and babies hospital bag. I hav a week off in just over 2 weeks so I must paint the nursery and I love love lov the name Lleyton but dp says it'd be too many l's, I already have a Lucas and a logan lol

Alyssa1978 · 18/09/2013 20:00

Else not lose......damn auto correct Blush

clare8allthepies · 18/09/2013 20:08

Hi, had scan on Monday and good news, estimated weight has gone up to 2 pounds 12, so although she is still small she is following the 5th centile line bang on and my placenta isn't as low as it was 2 weeks ago. Still got to have scans every 2 weeks but they were a lot more positive than last time Smile

We're not doing too well with names, I have a list of about 10 and DP hasn't even started! My top 2 at the moment are Rose and Elena so if he doesn't pull his finger put in the next 10 weeks that could be what she's called.

Good luck to everyone having GTTs, I haven't been told to have one but after watching that episode of the midwives where they were banging on about diabetes in pregnancy I might see if DP will do me a test (hes diabetic) just to put my mind at rest!

Stom91 · 18/09/2013 20:22

clare I love the name Elena, i wanted it but dp didnt like it so we are calling our lil one Amelia, which i love!

Alyssa ive been our of breathe all day and my belly is huge today everytime i bend down by belly button really hurts :S

and ive got this really annoying cough. hope im not coming down with something!!

my grandad had type 2 diabetes, so would i have to be tested? i hope not. my mw said they give you lucazade.. i hate the stuff.

clare8allthepies · 18/09/2013 20:47

Amelia is lovely, it's our DD's middle name! Grin

LadyMedea · 18/09/2013 20:55

stom the guideline is first degree relative so I'm assuming that's parents or siblings so you should be ok! I remember having the GTT test as a kid for some reason and it is rank but still worth having done.

Stom91 · 18/09/2013 21:01

ahh cool. my other mw said i would have it but this mw hasn't mentioned it. I see her next week so we will see.

yeah i really love it, we thought it wasn't very popular but its actually number 1 in the tom 100 names so was abit annoyed lol but love it too much to change it lol... her middle name will be Kathleen ~(after dp nan)

feeling abit spaced out, :S

b0nker5Mum · 18/09/2013 21:18

Stom, I think lucazade would have been nicer!! It was like a thick oily orange drink!!

Can think of hundreds of girls names I like but not so many boys... I think boys names are tough as you want something that will still be masculine when they are grown up but cute as a child... There are so many more cute girlie names!!! I'm still convinced this one is a boy... Might just be called baby!!

Has anyone else felt a little let down by the midwives? I know this is not my first pregnancy but the last one was 16 years ago and so a lot has changed.. I've seen her twice.. She hasn't mentioned birth classes or even the whooping cough jab and the next time I am due to see her is at 34 weeks! I feel a little like I'm on my own with this one... The ones on tv seem so lovely and caring!! I just feel like I'm wasting their time! Any pregnancy related qs I had were answered with ask the dr!
