Pram I was referring to your landlord. No offence meant just having a crappy week

Does anyone know anything about being made redundant while preggers?

BakingEating · 05/09/2013 12:31

Totally agree with Lyra on learning languages. The problem is that once you are tired/ in pain/ high as a kite on painkillers your foreign language skills are so much less than usual, so you have to learn to a much higher standard than you expect to use and this isn't always possible. I think you should try anyway but it's important to have back-up. At least, that was my experience when I lived in France and broke my leg. The swearing came out in English as a reflex, progressing to French once I'd calmed down a bit. I still stared glassy eyed at the doctor as he asked me the most basic questions though. The other thing is that you need to have heard words a few times in context before they really stick in the brain. Still, I haven't seen Mr and Mrs Gazelle, and I expect you're right that he was odd.

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 12:31

They're not allowed to use your pregnancy in the decision as to who to make redundant, but it's not like they'd ever say that's the reason, so that's not much use.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 12:32

Lib I'm afraid I dont. Have you tried the citizens advice website?

Mummy hope you get a better night tonight. I feel your pain in the heat. 30 degrees here today. Thank god it's dropping down low tomorrow!

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 12:33

The direct gov website too.

30 degrees! It got to 20 here yesterday!

Rockchick1984 · 05/09/2013 12:34

Lib I used to do a fair bit of HR in my old job, so may be able to advise. Have they made you redundant, or are you at risk? Do they know you're pregnant? How many redundancies are being made?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 13:14

I'm dreaming of 20 degrees Fox. Essex is having a mini heat wave Grin

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 13:31

So is Cumbria. 20 degrees IS a heatwave! Grin Sometimes I think I moved too far north...

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 13:32

But then I look out the window, and that usually makes up for it.

commsgirl · 05/09/2013 13:34

It's 19 here in Yorkshire, we're all complaining we're too hot. Grin

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 13:49

Grin Fox I have a friend up in Carlisle, so know all too well about the weather!

Comms it's going to be a glorious weekend here, 15 degrees and sun. Perfect!

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 13:55

Well, I guess we need the rain to keep the lakes full...

I need a holiday. Where can I go for a week in November that will be nice and warm?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 13:58

How far would you like to travel Fox?

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 14:01

Hmm...I don't mind really but it can't be too crazy if we're only going for a week. Like, you wouldn't go to Australia for a week would you? I wish you could, I would go see my sister...

MTBMummy · 05/09/2013 14:16

Quick question - is it possible for a ready meal from a supermarket that's in date to be off? I bought myself a Ham and Mushroom tagliatelle and it tastes and smells wrong - I've eaten a bit of it because I've told myself not to be stupid, if it's in date it must be fine, but I'm really not so sure now...

Any thoughts?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 14:19

I'm sure it's ok MTB I've convinced myself all sorts of things smell off, when DH assumes me they are fine. If you're not liking it though, don't force it down!!

Fox most of Europe is rubbish in November. How about the Caribbean? Or South America? Or Asia?

MTBMummy · 05/09/2013 14:21

Thanks Maybe I'm starving so I'd rather not bin it - hate wasting food but was worried it would make me ill

LyraSilvertongue · 05/09/2013 14:22

The canary islands should be warm in November, as they're off the coast of Africa. Also Tunisia, Morrocco etc. anywhere is north Africa.

LyraSilvertongue · 05/09/2013 14:23

MTB, it could just be your nose playing tricks on you but maybe giving it an extra blast in the microwave to kill off any potential bugs would make you feel better.

MTBMummy · 05/09/2013 14:27

Thanks Lyra not a bad shout

PramQueen1971 · 05/09/2013 14:29

Mummy, why do teachers come to your house?

Maybelline, what did you get delivered? I hope it was a gallon of paraffin to chuck all over that fucking onesie you've bought Grin

Only 50 minutes now, Jolls! x

When I was in the benefits office some tearaway nippers were getting told off by their mum: 'Be careful around that lady! She's having a baby' Grin

FoxMulder · 05/09/2013 14:31

I don't think we can stretch to anywhere too exotic. I had said I was definitely going to Mexico before having kids, but that's not going to happen now.

I've got a friend who lives in Fuerteventura, maybe I could go visit (again)!

Will Greece be freezing?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 14:34

Grin Prambo no, no paraffin for me! 'twas my dress and jeans, a new water bottle and baking supplies for wedding cake making at the weekend!

Glad you're feeling better about it MTB

I second what Lyra said about Africa, but I got so very ill I'm Tunisia, and everyone I k ow that's been to Egypt got really sick too.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 05/09/2013 14:35

I was thinking Greece, but had a quick google and by November it's a bit hit and miss. I love Greece. I think turkey may still be quite warm in November.

Becface · 05/09/2013 14:37

Ha ha Pram as in be careful that lady is having a baby which means she could either burst into tears or rip your head off at any minute without any warning. Impressed other people can tell, for me it'd be, 'be careful that lady is a bit fat she might eat you.'

I had a bit of a scare on Tuesday night, whilst playing in our last softball game of the season some 6ft odd built guy decided to run right into me ignoring the rules and basically tackled me to the floor. I was so angry at him I told him to get the fuck off me and stormed off, then had a complete wobble that I'd put myself and baby in danger, and then promptly felt very vomitty even though I've been vomit free since Monday night, thank the universe for Cyclizine!

Rang EPU in tears as I was worried, and they said as long as no cramps or bleeding, I didn't need to go in. Thankfully he hit me on my upper body and I'm pretty well padded on my derrière so think that everything is ok.

Made me realise I need to be more careful though, guess I need to realise that it's to just me anymore!
