Grrrrrrr! MIL was supposed to be coming to see the DCs today for the first time in weeks. "I'll be there for around 10am".

No effing sign of her.

My MIL didn't know she was pg with DH until almost 6 months, and smoked and drank like any other 19 year old up to the point she found out. He turned out ok though...

gnittinggnome · 17/08/2013 12:29

somany sorry to hear you've got low iron on top of everything else. Will your HG allow you to eat iron-rich foods? Or would something like Floradix stay down? My iron's on the low side of the scale, but can deal with it through food - is that an option for you? Hope you can get something to ease the constipation if iron supplements are the only solution - have you tried Fybogel? Brew

DawnOfTheDee · 17/08/2013 13:09

I have no clue how people get to the point of giving birth without knowing. By 42 weeks DD felt like less of a baby and more of a parasitic twin at that point. and i looked like a bus....a double decker

Shropshiremummy2bLaFay · 17/08/2013 13:16

I have a tummy all the time so I genuinely think if I had'nt missed a period I would genuinely not know. That would be the dream. Luckily for you girls I do know and am able to bore you all on a daily basis with my inane ramblings*, poor attempts at humour and contraversial name choices.

*N.B. Just googled 'inane ramblings' to check I spelt inane right. A whole load of porn images came up. I didnt explore why as i'm at work. But yikes. Wonder if my boobs will look like that soon? I'm guessing her name is Inane Ramblings. Not a very good porn name. Especially not if it's her first pets name and mothers maiden name. Imagine having a dog called Inane. Or the surname Ramblings. FYI Mine is Marmaduke French. Thats a proper porn star name. Sorry for the inane ramble. Can you tell i'm at work on a Saturday....?

Somanychanges · 17/08/2013 13:19

Thanks gnitting, I am going to try juicing some Kale and Kiwi. I have no idea if that will stay down but worth a try to try and get more iron in there. I am not eating much of a variety of food at the moment due to most things making me sick. I have not tried fybrogel but have been taking lactalose which only semi works. Might give it a try though.

The midwife said I will need to take the iron supplements asap or I will be very ill so I guess I have no choice I don't want to start feeling even worse. I would love to have a big fat juicy steak right now filled with iron yummy! But I have gone off all meat and fish apart from chicken. It has been chicken for dinner every night in our house.

One thing I am managing to eat is vegetable soup so I might try some with veggies full of iron although I am not sure the iron really stays once cooked?

I am having a really lazy day and I know my husband just thinks I'm lazy. He is walking around the house tidying and giving me funny looks. The thing is I have to be on my own with the children all week and struggle along looking after them whilst ill. So when the weekend comes I just want some time off, is that too much to ask? I feel like I should start a am I being unreasonable. Grin

gnittinggnome · 17/08/2013 13:41

somany quite a few vitamins and minerals are made more accessible by cooking, eg folate in spinach is way higher after (gentle) cooking, so if you are making a soup (eg not pouring the cooking liquid away) and not totally blitzing the veg, it should be ok. Plus try to have some vitamin-c rich food or drink with it, as vit C increases the absorption of iron - your kale and kiwi juice sounds perfect!

laura0007 · 17/08/2013 13:43

Lol Shropshire. You do make me laugh. I've been at work this morning too and nearly passed out. I had a dizzy/sick moment. Luckily I am a nanny to 7&8 year old girls so they were able to entertain themselves whilst I had a 5 min lie down on the sofa! Plus one of them made me a cup of tea....with cold water as she isn't allowed to use the kettle by herself Grin yum!

212VIP · 17/08/2013 14:07

Wow

Bearfrills · 17/08/2013 14:12

Love the tangent Shropshire :) (mine would be Fifi Douglas, by the way).

Still no sign of MIL however photos have just gone up on FB of her enjoying a restaurant meal with SIL/BIL and their children while I'm sat here like a mug waiting for her so I think I can take it that she isn't coming. The photos and no reply to my calls and texts are sign enough.

DH is a lucky man, he just got the mother of all hormonal rants when he rang me from work. It ranged from his mother to gammon to pizza to Tuesdays and back again :o

jazzcat28 · 17/08/2013 14:47

Shropshire that made me laugh out loud

bear how rude of your MIL! I'd be very hacked off if that happened to me.

Got my NT results through, very low risk so that's one worry off my mind.

Bearfrills · 17/08/2013 15:02

Congratulations jazzcat :)

Shropshiremummy2bLaFay · 17/08/2013 15:16

Yesssss Jazz you clever thing.

Bear as the baby whisperer, can you have words with mine too? Just a couple of matters arising, 1. Be a boy if possible 2. Be cute straightaway (I know looks shoddy matter but newborns are uuuuugly) 3. Don't make me wait too long to see you. Thanks, muchos appreciated.

Laura DON'T google inane ramblings whilst you're at work, if they can't use a kettle exposing them to naked ladies is going to cause all kinds of trouble.

Shropshiremummy2bLaFay · 17/08/2013 15:18

Shoddy= shouldn't obvs.

Bearfrills · 17/08/2013 16:07

MILs DP was ill and has been ill all weekend. She's just texted me.

I didn't realise there was an illness called bullshit-itis Hmm

I'm trying to formulate a non-hormonal reply but am very tempted to simply point out "you reap what you sow and if you keep ignoring the kids, one day they'll ignore you".

Shropshiremummy2bLaFay · 17/08/2013 16:12

You go girlfriend!

CubanoHabana · 17/08/2013 16:28

And she couldn't text you at 10 when she was due to turn up?! I would be so annoyed!

laura0007 · 17/08/2013 16:28

Go for it bear!! It's only the truth after all Smile

misskatamari · 17/08/2013 18:12

Somany - good luck with the juice - iron deficiency is horrid and makes you feel sooooo tired and crap. Senokot is good if you do get constipated so might be worth a try.

DH came to look at prams with me today and we are sold on the baby jogger city select. We want one that converts to a double as want babies close together if possible and it just seems like such a good sturdy pram which has awesome combinations when it's a double. Plus it comes in purple Smile bonus! oooh and it fits in the boot. Seems like a really reasonably priced one too and the lady in the shop said its one of her favourite brands as they are just really well made. So bloody relieved to have decided! Now I just need to research carseats lol!

Thingymajigs · 17/08/2013 18:29

I've just been pushchair shopping with the in laws. I realised it was going to be incredibly awkward as they had very set ideas on what they wanted. So I took control and asked if they would buy the car seat, base and accessories instead. That pretty much saved the day because they didn't know much about car seats. So we now have a red maxi cosi cabriofix with easybase 2 and footmuff. Still unsure about the pushchair but I have 5 and a bit months left to decide.
Oh I recommend the dopplers btw. I've had brown spotting for over a week which had left me a bit panicked. Once I got the second hand doppler (angel sounds jumper) I found the heartbeat within 2 minutes and a week of stress just left me. Be warned though that you may start checking a few times a day and I don't always find the heartbeat and I'm 15+5. Poor baby must feel a bit prodded by now.

DawnOfTheDee · 17/08/2013 18:32

I think it says a lot about me that I just caught up with the thread then immediately googled inane ramblings Grin

misskatamari · 17/08/2013 18:40

lol - she has some massive boobs Dawn!

That's fab about the car seat and accessories Thingy! What exactly is a footmuff? I've seen picks - is it kinda like a baby sleeping bag thing or does it just go on the front of the pushchair to keep baby warm?

The lady in the pram shop mentioned a recore car seat (i think that was what it was called...) and it looked good as it extends but i've never heard of them and always just hear about maxicosi ones. Gosh more things to learn about!

I want to try using my doppler again but am scared I wont find the heart beat again and don't wanna worry myself. Might just have a quick go and see tho...

DawnOfTheDee · 17/08/2013 18:45

She does that misskatamari.

I'd be too tempted if I got a doppler to use it on other things....my leg...DH....next door's cat.....

misskatamari · 17/08/2013 18:59

Oh wow I actually just found the heart beat! Grin Could hear the whooshing placenta then the faster babies heart beat which was deffo not mine as I was feeling my pulse in my neck which was much slower. Smile Phew feel so relieved now! It's brought years to me eyes. Now, where's the cat...

DawnOfTheDee · 17/08/2013 19:02

Aw that's sweet misskatamari...it's such a lovely amazing sound isn't it? Can't wait till my next mw appointment to hear my LO's heartbeat Smile
