Will this one take us through to the end of the first trimester? Will the sickness ever end? Will we be able to judge genders from those first scan pictures? These and many other mysteries to be solved in... THREAD 4

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

MotherofNations, so sorry you're going through this. It could have happened / could happen to any of us, at any scan (like Jrlly, could of course happen at the later scans).

I totally understand your concern re amnio and miscarriage. I know (I think!) you're in Scotland, but you could consider the Harmony tests. They do them at Fetal Medicine Centre in London and I gather they are as accurate as invasive tests. The scan is incredibly detailed, so they will consider much more than just Downs and discuss viability, post birth life etc. There is lots about it on the Antenatal Tests board (under the same "drop down" as Antenatal Clubs, Pregnancy etc, if that makes sense!

Good luck with it all. It is so hard and there's no right or wrong. Just come and talk as much as you need. X x

Rockchick1984 · 29/03/2013 09:09

Jelly when are you going to announce it at work? Is it worth having a quiet word with your boss and letting him know, rather than waiting and him hearing rumours first?

11 weeks today and suffering with a lovely combination of constant tiredness and insomnia Hmm

Falcon I hope everything's ok.

cuillereasoupe · 29/03/2013 09:41

My boobs gave it away apparently

I'd be more than a little Hmm at that too, jelly. I can honestly say I've never given any of my colleagues' boobs a second's thought.

MoN I think you're wise to wait until you have more info before coming to a decision. Hugs to you and DP.

roofio87 · 29/03/2013 09:50

MoN sorry you're scan wasn't what you hoped, you and your dp must be having a hard time, I'm thinking of you x

I'm 13 weeks today (which is nice as I thought I was only 12 on Tuesday!!) definitely starting to feel much better,no more nausea and feeling much less tired, its lovely! its so nice to have my news out in the open too!!
hope everyone has a good day today Smile

JellyCurls · 29/03/2013 09:53

My boss knows as do my team but with over 400 in the office I haven't made it official to all yet, figured they would guess soon when I get fat.

cuillera there are only about three women on my floor and over 200 men so they seem to forget you are female and treat you like one of the lads hence the boob comments. They also tell you openly if you look like poo, are having a bad hair day, need to dye your hair... On the upside I have never been allowed to buy a drink at any night out.

PseudoBadger · 29/03/2013 10:28

11 weeks today also Rockchick, just got off a flight to N Ireland and am ready for a sleep!

Pannacotta2013 · 29/03/2013 12:20

MoN I hope you get some helpful advice about your options... What a blow. Whatever you decide I hope that this needn't be your only chance?

Sanjifair after you mentioned the asthma / folic acid in later pregnancy thing I looked it up and found the original study, but also this later one which indicates that higher levels of folic acid are associated with reduced asthma in children. Its a far more thorough study methodology as well.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21690114

But you just want to do whatever you can don't you? My partner has asthma and my brother and sister and mum do, so its likely to come our way. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't get asthma, hayfever or animal allergies. I'm convinced it's because I used to chew shoes as a baby and eat sweets off the floor when I was small. Gross I know, but I believe in the immune system challenge theory!

Natalieand · 29/03/2013 12:36

Lol panacotta I too am a believer of 'it builds up it immune system' too much cleaning/sterilising etc can have the opposite effect! Xx

MotherOfNations · 29/03/2013 13:20

I've made the decision to go ahead and upload my scan pic. Thanks again to everyone for the support and advice.

cazboldy · 29/03/2013 14:17

Oh MON Sad

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this xx

it must be so hard when you have the other dc to consider aswell.

Take Care of yourself xx

OrangeBlossom2 · 29/03/2013 15:27

Pannacotta2013 thank you for posting that link. My DH and I both have asthma and so am very interested in research on things that increase/ decrease the risk of our baby getting it.

pinksky · 29/03/2013 16:40

We both have asthma, but I do think there's something I'm early exposure. If I recall, there's a fair bit of research about children brought up on farms and their immunity/resistance to allergies?

pinksky · 29/03/2013 16:43

MoN just saw your post. Really lovely to see your scan pic. I'm on my phone so can't really make out the picture clearly. I hope you and DH are doing ok today XX

JellyCurls · 29/03/2013 17:18

MoN thank you for sharing your scan picture. I can see the fluid you are talking about. Looks like my 11 week scan pic apart from you can see your baby has a nose, mine is noseless at the moment!

Hope you have a nice Easter weekend with your family and Tuesday doesn't take too long to come x

SeriousStuff · 29/03/2013 17:20

Mother just seen your scan pic. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope you're having a nice weekend with your family.

I must admit, today is the best I have felt in 6 weeks. Still have nausea but very mild and I haven't needed to nap yet, even though I had to go and pick up a very drunken DH from town late last night (and help him be sick, whilst trying not to be sick myself). He owes me big time!

Off for food with some lovely friends tonight - have a lovely Easter everyone [busmile]

Natalieand · 29/03/2013 17:30

Is it just me or can u only view ppls pics as the size of a thumb nail? X

TinyCC · 29/03/2013 18:20

Hi all
I posted in the first October thread but haven't for a while as I was so worried and nervous that I might jinx myself or something would go wrong - I guess I am still worried about that, but what will be will be and me posting on the internet won't change that.
I have been lurking though, and I have to say there are some wonderful, courageous ladies here who have amazing strength and fortitude.

I'm due 8th October, had scan on Monday which went fine, the scan picture is so clear!
I ordered an angelsounds doppler on amazon and have managed to hear baby's heartbeat which is reassuring, although I do drive myself crazy until I find it!

Morning sickness is starting to subside but I have earache at the moment. Have eaten 14 packets of hula hoops this week.

JellyCurls · 29/03/2013 18:34

Welcome back tiny glad scan went well.

Think I have posted my scan picture but not fully convinced it worked

Haylebop12 · 29/03/2013 18:35

Your profile isn't set to public jelly as your name isn't clickable. Iyswim?

JellyCurls · 29/03/2013 18:38

How's that now

MissyTJ · 29/03/2013 18:40

Hi guys just decided to join this group as had my 12 week scan on weds, all great, due 10th Oct!!

Have you all told people now? I'm thinking of starting a support thread for anyone who has had negative reactions from family when announcing pregnancy (way to deflate someone at the most exciting time of their life eh) unless anyway knows of one already?

Also, I'm starting to feel almost human again, no sickness, hurrah!!!! Hope you all are too :-)

Ps. Is anyone else feeling bloated and flabby around the belly but not a bump? Lol! I just think I've eaten too much! Gained 4/5 pounds already....whoops!

:-) xx

MissyTJ · 29/03/2013 18:41

Congrats tiny, isn't it amazing hearing the heartbeat!! I nearly cried!! :-) xx

Haylebop12 · 29/03/2013 18:41

No jelly haha

JellyCurls · 29/03/2013 18:42

What about now? And if this doesn't work it'd not going to happen

Haylebop12 · 29/03/2013 18:44

Don't think it's going to happen then Grin
