Will this one take us through to the end of the first trimester? Will the sickness ever end? Will we be able to judge genders from those first scan pictures? These and many other mysteries to be solved in... THREAD 4

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Sanjifair · 27/03/2013 22:37

I am taking pregnacare at the moment but plan to stop at the end of the second trimester. There is evidence that folic acid in the third trimester can increase risk of asthma. My DS has asthma, with no family history of it at all. I took pregnacare all the way through last time and have concerns it could have been a factor in him developing asthma. I will carry taking vitamin d though. Ideally I would like a pregnancy multivitamin without folic acid but I don't think there is such a thing available.

Had booking in appointment today. On the way there I was driving along when I suddenly lost some vision. Scary! Then got a nasty headache. I am not prone to migraines normally, presume it is a pregnancy thing. Blood pressure was fine, the midwife checked it. Anyone else had this?

Congrats on today's happy scans, and good luck for those going tomorrow!

roxvox · 27/03/2013 22:50

motherofnations is it just you and me tomorrow then? That's lovely that your DD will be there with you! I am so excited too.

sanjifair that doesn't sound good at all. I have had similar experiences in the past, but my headaches have definitely reduced since about a week after I got my BFP. Sorry to hear you're getting them though.

chickieno1 · 28/03/2013 01:11

Congratulations everyone with all the lovely scans!

No scan date for me as yet but GP wants it asap cos he thinks I'm bigger than 11 weeks on examination! I'm trying not to think of all the worst possible reasons. probably just my body shape/pelvis. With my pregnancy with DS the midwives made a big deal about me measuring large for dates had to do a GTT and everything.....
Will look out for scan buddies as soon as I have a date :)

chickieno1 · 28/03/2013 01:13

Sal I was so sorry to hear your news on tuesday. You were so strong and very good to everyone else who was anxious about any thing at all. You and your husband take care of yourselves and each other xxx

pinksky · 28/03/2013 04:59

Can't sleep! Anyone else?

Sanji I think the hormonal changes make you more susceptible in pregnancy? I get migraines with aura and have had more recently.

I don't think I'm going to take Vit D and will stop my pregnancy supplements once they're used up at the end of the first trimester. Will make sure I have a walk outside every day though.

Thanks for answering all my questions Caz

Happy scan day, Rox and motherofnations!

Iheartcrunchiebars · 28/03/2013 05:27

I'm with you pinksky! Been awake since 4am at my husband was snoring and wouldn't stop. Grrrr. Now I'm in a freezing cold kitchen baking scones. I've got a really long day ahead, I'll be asleep by 4pm!!

Good luck to anyone scanning today. Xxx

cuillereasoupe · 28/03/2013 06:09

Overheard some colleagues gossiping about my tum in the loos yesterday. Nosy cows Angry Blush Grin

pinksky · 28/03/2013 07:04

same with the snoring husband, crunchie! Like that you did something productive with your insomnia. Cheese scones or plain scones?

Cuillere what happened in the loos?!

Natalieand · 28/03/2013 07:05

Good luck with your scans today roxvox and MoN be sure to let us no how u get on :-) xx

Other than tiredness I have absolutely no symptoms now so my scan (6 days away) can't come soon enough x

PseudoBadger · 28/03/2013 07:07

Please consider taking vitamin d whilst pregnant and if breastfeeding nhs guidelines

roxvox · 28/03/2013 09:50

Morning ladies. I just got back from my scan, and oh my word it was incredible! We definitely have one little baby in there, and he/she was bouncing around all over the place! I saw little hands and little feet and baby kept stretching his feet and arms out. Was so incredible. I had myself convinced that they weren't going to find anything! I have uploaded a picture of the baby doing a salute (DH's father and my brother were/are in the Navy so this is our favourite pic!) Can't wait to tell family now!

The lady got a bit carried away with the photos and we've come away with 10 of them!

Also, she measured baby and has put us forward almost a week, so I am now at 13+1 (thought we were 12+2).

MotherOfNations please let us know how you get on!

MotherOfNations · 28/03/2013 09:57

My scan's not til 1.30. I feel sick with nerves even though I've being feeling flutters for the past few days so there's definitely something there.

SeriousStuff · 28/03/2013 09:58

roxvox that's an amazing shot - definitely a salute! Congratulations!

It's strange isn't it - it starts to get real at the scan when they show that there is indeed something inside you but I still find it hard to associate my scan picture with my stomach!

MotherOfNations · 28/03/2013 09:58

Your scan pic is lovely roxvox

BowlFullofJelly · 28/03/2013 10:03

Hehe, that's great Roxvox, congratulations! Good luck for later MoN. Can't wait to start feeling baby move now - am 13 + 3 so hopefully in the next few weeks. I did think I was feeling flutters a couple of weeks ago, but has stopped now - so either uterus moving means I can't feel them or was imagining it!

Can't wait for work to be over today and get on with the long weekend. DS is very excited about the Easter Bunny bringing him chocolate, and have been instructed that he wants a Thomas Tank egg. Bossy little sod! Will be visiting family for the whole weekend which I'm not thrilled about, but will use the grandparents/aunties to look after DS while I nap and eat DS's chocolate

roxvox · 28/03/2013 10:14

Thanks all! We're over the moon with the pics.

Good luck MotherOfNations for 1.30. I was ridiculously nervous this morning. Deep breaths and everything in the waiting room. The scan room was nice and dark which put me at ease and as soon as I saw my little baby moving up on the screen, all of the nerves went. I have been getting the occasional flutter too! Also, during the scan I laughed at something (well, scoffed because I didn't want to move too much) and the baby jumped around with me Smile

Turns out I didn't need a full bladder. The nurse commented that I only had 'a teaspoon' in there. I had almost 2 pints an hour prior to going in and it certainly felt full (now thinking it was actually just nerves making me feel like that)! She recommended, next time, drinking 2 pints 2 hours before, and then having your last wee an hour before your appointment.

Good luck MotherOfNations! Looking forward to seeing your pics!

pinksky · 28/03/2013 11:05

roxvox that's a wonderful scan pic Smile congratulations!

All the best for yours motherofnations

roofio87 · 28/03/2013 11:16

glad your scan went well roxvox, a lovely pic!!
was meant to be seeing the in laws today, but mil works in a nursery and there is slapped cheek going around so I've been told to stay away Haha!! only working this eve so off for a nice manicure to show off my ring!! Smile
feel like I've been weeing really slowly the last few days, like it doesn't wanna come out.the midwife sent my wee off to test on Tuesday as there was some protein in it so I guess I'll find out if maybe I have a uti. anyone else having this Feeling?

Smitten1981 · 28/03/2013 11:45

roofio If you do have a UTI and get put on antibiotics please learn from my mistake and take some probiotics as well.

I wouldn't want anyone to get this awful stubborn thrush. I think Bio-Kult tablets are the best. Safe to use in pregnancy and while on antibiotics. Just got some for £6 from Amazon.

roxvox That scan is great - lucky you!

Warlin · 28/03/2013 11:54

rox glad the scan went well and you have an active little bean. How do you view pics on here? Good luck for this afternoon MoN.

I have a nuchal scan tmw which I am anxious about. Last time it didnt really worry me but I'm just worried this time. We have Downs in the family so it does worry me. Because of Easter though they can't do the bloods so if there is any swelling of signs of a problem, I would have to wait for 16 weeks for an amnio...trying not to think about it and hope it will be fine.

I have done my back in and am really hoping this is going to be a constant problem throughout pregnancy. I know the ligaments are looser and lifting a 24lb all the time is not helping. I hardly slept last night as couldn't get comfortable and had to get DH to lift DS out of his cot etc this morning. I want to pick him up but cant which makes me sad :(

roofie congrats on the engagement! I am the same on the wee front, takes forever! I think it's just pressure from the uterus. I have been feeling quite a bit of pressure down there and remember the same thing last time. Once the uterus rises a bit it should be easier to wee.

I plucked up the courage to tell work today (as it's becoming obvious) but my boss is off until the 8th so am going to have stay quiet until then. Just want it over with.

Good luck to all the other scans over the next few days.

I also can't wait to get away from work and have a lovely long weekend!

Crookie1 · 28/03/2013 14:46

Really quick question, yes or no to smoked mackerel? I really want some!!

HotSoupDumpling · 28/03/2013 14:53

According to the NHS, yes - but as its an oily fish, only max 2 portions a week.

Smitten1981 · 28/03/2013 15:05

Come on MoN dying to hear your scan news!

roxvox · 28/03/2013 15:13

I keep refreshing for the same reason Smitten1981! Come on MotherOfNations!! I hope it all went well x

Warlin · 28/03/2013 15:43

yes to mackeral....I eat lots of fish so tend to go over my 2 portion allocation....have to be careful with tuna as it's my staple sandwich filling!!
