SGJ · 19/02/2013 16:02

Frog, they're so good. Gonna have to buy another packet on the way home tonight. Just looked down and some chubber has eaten my entire packet Grin

Sorry to have made you sympathy gag, kitten, I have never gagged before in my life and so I'm not very subtle! It's like comedy, full body gagging, what a sight.

Choccie, my scan buddy! 2.40pm is mine and actually since I work tues/weds/Thurs and my students don't have half term, being at wok this week is super joyful (no irony) as not only will it go really quickly but the roads and car parks are beautifully empty... small pleasures!

Will be hoping for good news from everyone over the next few weeks! Ready - if it's any consolation, the last 3 weeks have (in retrospect) seemed to go quite quickly, plus when it's your turn, we will all have ages to wait until 20 week scans and will be stressing again... Smile

Readytosettle · 19/02/2013 16:05

Just had the worst booking in appointment....brand new midwife, didn't even know what surgery she was in. Could hardly speak/write English. She just threw the note book at me & told me to fill it out, then spent the rest of the time filling it out other forms/ringing the hospital to ask which consultant I need to see, which colour blood caps she needed, which tests she needed to do etc etc....I was in there an hour and a half before she triumphantly said 'Done' (having signed to say she'd talked to me about all the stuff she was meant to).

I then suggested she might need to actually take some blood, then regretted it when she proceeded to stab me with the needle on both arms (she couldn't find the vein so thought she'd just give it a go)....after a number of failed attempts she eventually said 'can I use your hand?'. Which of course didn't work properly so we had to just sit and wait whilst my blood trickled out. She then said 'I won't give you any leaflets or books as you can find everything on the Internet' and sent me on my way!!

I appreciate we've got a shortage of midwives, but what's the bloody point when I could have done a better job myself than she did....and in half the time!!

Whyriskit · 19/02/2013 16:14

Oh dear ready, that sounds really pants. I would seriously consider complaining, what if you were someone very vulnerable who needed everything explained clearly and couldn't "just look up the Internet"?
Still in bed, made it to my v important meeting, did my bit and came home again. 11 weeks today, scan next Thursday.

BinarySolo · 19/02/2013 16:18

That's really crap Ready. I would definitely complain and ask for a different midwife. ( and I'm not a complainer). If she couldn't find your vein in your arm she should have sent you to hospital to have it done. Not pratted about with the veins in you hand!

The midwife couldn't find my veins when I had ds so I had bloods done at the same time as my scan.

You should have been given a booklet about screening test too. It's HER responsibility to give you this information, it's not down to you to have to go off and research it.

Creamtea1 · 19/02/2013 16:21

My scan is on mon. Had to tell 2 team mates the news as obviously having to miss another game on sat. Asked them to keep to themselves as scan wasn't till mon so wanted to make sure all was ok before going public.
One replied 'congrats, really really fingers crossed its a little girl' (I've got 2 boys)
Angry Angry

BinarySolo · 19/02/2013 16:24

How annoying Creamtea. My mom said the same to me. I have 1 ds. I'd be very happy with another. I just don't understand this one of each is perfect mentality.

LexyMa · 19/02/2013 16:30

Just had 12 week scan at precisely 12w by my LMP... And I'm now apparently 12+6! So just like kips, I've come forward to a late August due date. Right on the cusp of the school year. DS is an August baby and is in no doubt for being ready for reception (probably due to super fantastic brilliant nursery rather than anything we've done!!) so I am not worried about the school year thing. Oh and it's just one in there (phew!) the nuchal thickness looks normal, will get the results in a week by post (phone only if bad). It was very very active, lots of stretching, yawning, sticking tongue out, touching forehead, crossing and uncrossing legs (thought it was Kenny Everett in there for a moment!), and reaching out with open palm (Marcel Marceau). It's got bloody long legs and big feet, but DH is over 6 foot and DS was huge at birth, I'll try to forget that for a while though.

Sorry to have to say this to anyone with phlegm, but mine hasn't gone away since I first got it in 2008 when first pregnant. Just sayin'... Grin

It is also my birthday today so we are off out, once we've got DS home, for a pizza dinner in town. And maybe just the one cheeky Wine

Creamtea1 · 19/02/2013 16:32

I can see its going to be my bug bear this pregnancy binary ! Grrr
And Envy of fruit pastilles mmm

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 19/02/2013 16:34

Looks like its my turn for the never ending head aches. This ones been here for 3 days and desperate not to take painkillers. Drinking water incase I'm dehydrated but its not really working. Feels a bit like a migraine as its not as bad in the dark Sad

Pinkbump3 · 19/02/2013 16:35

Had visit to maternity unit today they did pg test to confirm as I self referred to them and laughed said it was a very quick positive. Going by dates the put me at 11 weeks got booking in and scan on Monday and if all goes well I can start telling my news Smile

That's a shame about your booking ready. They will prob take blood from my hand on Monday as they have never yet in 3 pg got a vein in my arm. It's quite a painful way to give blood but usually if I'm at GP he will send me to the hosp to have this done as well.

MeanMrsMustard · 19/02/2013 16:42

Congrats and Happy Birthday Lexi!
So, the other half of my scan was all positive. The downs risk is 1:15000 and it's due on the 27th August so I'm exactly 13 weeks today. Baby is 68mm long.
I can't believe I finally get to tell people! It's felt like forever.

Sorry you've had a crap booking in appointment Ready. I hope things improve.

LexyMa · 19/02/2013 16:49

Ready that sounds awful. Definitely complain, a quick call to the supervisor of midwives should set things right - it could be if she's new (to the area, or newly qualified) she should be being supervised a bit longer.

I asked at my scan if there was a baby boom starting and she was very non committal - she said this past weekend in delivery they didn't stop for a moment, but that it's an ongoing boom as far as they're concerned.

Poonli · 19/02/2013 17:00

I had my booking in appointment today which lasted 2 hours. The midwife was nice but talked continously about herself rather than me. I left with stab wounds on both arms after taking 6 vials of blood and me nearly passing out. I didnt have an opportunity to ask any of the questions I wanted and felt a bit bullied when I said I MIGHT consider a birthing unit rather than the local drab hospital....

I also told my boss last week which as thought didnt go down well, whom is now avoiding talking to me or acknowledging that I am even pregnant at all!

ahhh at least I have my scan next week and can then hopefully tell people that actually care about me and want me to be happy...I feel a bit doom and gloom at the moment - completely sympathise with you Ready!

I am also very fed up with everyone telling me how skinny I look (I came off some medication so we could try) which has made me lose some weight. But little do they know that I am about to put on LOADS!

grrrrrr.........................................

Readytosettle · 19/02/2013 17:14

Sorry u had a crap one too Poonli.....but secretly a bit glad I'm not the only one. At least you got to talk about what u might want....I'm going to have to read back through my notes to see what mine's said I want...she certainly didn't ask me!

I'm in 2 minds about complaining....what if I get her again?? Will talk to my mum tonight, she's a health visitor so should give me an honest opinion on how bad it is in the scheme of things, judging by some of the tv shows I've seen (I remember 1 trainee midwife where they just turned round and said 'she keeps failing assessments but we need midwives so we'll just pass her and keep a close eye') I've got a feeling it's a fairly common problem!

Kittenkatzen · 19/02/2013 17:20

ready omg that sounds awful, I'm with the others you should definitely complain and see if you can switch midwives.

poonli SIX vials?? Shock why so many? I'm sure they only took two from me, and I came over faint even then - six would have done me in! Sorry your boss is being difficult - not long now until you can tell everyone else - and in the meantime, we're all really pleased for you! :o

mrs mustard enjoy spreading your news! Got any fun ways of telling people planned?

And Happy birthday lexy! Thanks

Creamtea1 · 19/02/2013 17:30

Happy birthday lexy

Have just given DH the following options for dinner: jacket potatoe with cheese, pasta with Ragu sauce and cheese, pizza. Anyone see a common theme there? Hmm

andadietcoke · 19/02/2013 17:43

Wow ready sounds like a nightmare.

Just back from my dating scan. Two babies with arms, legs, brains, spines and heartbeats of 165 and 167. One is a couple of mm bigger than the other, but average at 10w3 which gives me an EDD of 13/9 which is exactly when I thought so that's all good. Feel so much happier and more relaxed about everything!

Creamtea1 · 19/02/2013 17:55

Lovely news coke :) glad all is ok

And just realised that in this flurry of 12 week scans there have been no new twin announcements! There's got to be one more set in amongst us somewhere...

JammyTummy · 19/02/2013 17:56

Lexy I just got so emotional reading your post about the little bean kicking and yawning and stretching... Could feel myself welling up!

Ready if I were you I would complain precisely so that you don't get her again! It's your pregnancy and you want good advice and someone who knows what they're talking about! Or if you don't want to complain, I'm sure you are within your right to ask for a different MW for next time.

MrsMustard do they always send you away for a while in between scan and results? I'm glad you mentioned that cause I would've definitely started panicking had I not known!

I've been super phlegmy too- I feel like someone who smokes 40 a day!
My boobs are getting more and more massive, it's definitely lucky scan is next week cause they're making the whole pretending to not be pg very difficult!

Readytosettle · 19/02/2013 18:07

Yay dietcoke! That's fab news, was it another private scan? I've got my private scan tomorrow....can't be worse than my experiences with the nhs so far can it??

MeanMrsMustard · 19/02/2013 18:14

Hi jammy - It seemed to be the norm at my hospital (UCLH). I was seen at 12:00, had bloods taken, a few questions, then straight to the ultrasound. first ultra sound took just under an hour! Way longer than I expected. He pointed out various organs and body parts to me and took lots of measurements, telling me that everything looked normal so far. Then I had a quick dildo cam ultrasound to check my cervix length. It was now 1:10 ish. They said the blood results and measurements would be back in an hour, so could I come back just before 2:00 to get full results.

We went for a coffee and returned to get my results and due date and that was that. It was a lot longer than I expected, but I've never had one before so not sure if it's what all hospitals do.
How does my experience compare to other peoples? I'm curious now!

JammyTummy · 19/02/2013 18:29

Thanks Mustard! That's good to know! I've never had an nhs scan before so good to go in there knowing the procedure!

Girraferama · 19/02/2013 18:53

Ooh so jealous of all these scans!! Still another week and a half to go - feels like a lifetime!finding it hard to hide my pot belly now too, but I suspect it is more to do with the bread and sweets I've been eating than a baby!!

Congrats all those who have had their scans, great to hear all the good news! I give it a day until you are fretting again tho!! Grin

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 19/02/2013 19:03

Binary in my last pregnancy I had a scan at 8 weeks and that wasn't an internal and I'm overweight so I reckon you'll be fine.

Babyboo79 · 19/02/2013 19:04

Happy Birthday Lexy! Congrats to all those having scans today.

I was leading a workshop today and realised half way through that my new pot belly was really noticeable...

Think i'm going to have to start wearing some looser clothing until I hit the magic 13 weeks and can share the news.
