AmaDablam Donna's 39 but will be 40 when the twins are due. I will be - gulp - 50. Not that my age is relevant. Grin

OhGood · 17/12/2012 11:59

Amablam I'm 38. Find that I am a bit older than most of the mums I know where I live now, which surprised me a bit as all my London friends with children are on a par with me. paolo made me Grin. I definitely wish that I had had 'em younger, but it's life - I am an immigrant, moved to UK in early 20s, was with wrong man in 20s, broke up, met current DP at about 30, travelled world together, found somewhere not-London to live, built career - all this stuff takes time. But I really believe that biologically 24, 25, would have been great, when I had insane energy levels and would have breezed through kids. Now I my default state is tired.

Thinkingof4 · 17/12/2012 13:03

I'm 34 and dh is 44. But I have been having babies for the last 6 years Grin
dh started running half marathons in last couple of years as he's worried about being an old dad and not fit enough to run round with the boys, but he's waaay fitter than me!!

photographer I always get a strange IBS kind of thing mostly in first trimester, then constipation takes over. Very annoying but normal I think

ArkadyRose · 17/12/2012 13:17

There's a whole thread around here somewhere about mums-to-be who are 40+ - it's really not that unusual. I'll turn 40 myself next week on Friday, though I'm on my 4th rather than 1st. I had my first two at 19 and 22, my third at 35 (though after a long gap between pregnancies they often treat you like an elderly prima).

dinkystinky · 17/12/2012 13:44

ArkadyRose - one of my friends has just had her fifth - similar large gap between her first 3 and her last 2 - and she loves it as the older 3 help out with their small siblings and she has babysitters at home. So there are most definitely advantages to the big gap Grin

Paolo - DS1 is 6, nearly 7. One of his best friends from school has a dad who is 56 and he's the most hands on dad who is always in the park kicking a ball around with his son so having parents who start their family later in life hasnt affcted them in any way.

OhGood - I reckon all mums to be default state is tired Wink

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 17/12/2012 13:58

Dinky I tried phoning the appointments place today, couldn't get through at all, phoned community MWs who said "you do know that there's an appointments department, don't you?". Hmm Phoned another number for appointments and couldn't get through to that either.

Ended up phoning the GP surgery, GP has just phoned me and said that she sent the form over 3 weeks ago by email so the hospital have got the times wrong as they said they have only had it a week which I don't believe. She's away to phone them now because if we go by the date of my last period I would be 13 weeks just now...

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 17/12/2012 14:08

I got an appointment!!

Booking in 28th Dec and Scan on Hogmanay! Shock

ArkadyRose · 17/12/2012 14:35

I've just received two letters - both to see the consultant at the antenatal clinic. Except they're for two completely different consultants, and the appointments are only just over a week apart! Hmm First one is for 29th Jan, when I'll be 15 weeks; second is for 7th Feb - which is with the consultant I'm actually supposed to be under. I'm guessing the first appointment was a mistake, but no-one's answering their phones up at the clinic so I can't check for certain. You'd think they'd be back from lunch by 2:30pm!

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 17/12/2012 14:44

Hurrah for your GP sorting them out Schro - so pleased you have your appointment and scan date now!

ArkadyRose - Confused re your conflicting letters. Maybe there is someone else in their system with a similar name to yours? No excuse for messing up that way though. Hope you manage to speak to someone to clear up the confusion.

emblosion · 17/12/2012 14:58

I'm 34 amablam so on the older side, I had my first at 33. All the mums I know of any age have a default tired setting though, ha ha!

photographerlady I get random ibs type diarrhoea/constipation too. Not Fun. If I remember last time it gradually improved after the first trimester, so fingers crossed.

I've only told a couple of friends that I'm pregnant so far, I'm a bridesmaid for my best friend next August (hopefully) so thought it was only fair to tell her and told another couple of friends so I could cover up not drinking at a party.

I actually feel more relaxed about telling people this time - first time round I was terrified of jinxing myself somehow (v irrational) - but this time I feel like if something went wrong I'd want people to know. Haven't told family yet as I know I'll get a lecture off my mum and I'm also a bit embarassed as ds is still so young. Planning to tell them after my scan on 27th, all being well.

I feel like the first trimester is flying past this time, probably cos I'm so busy!

emblosion · 17/12/2012 15:05

Ps. All the appointment mix ups sound v annoying. NOT what you need at all. This sort of thing kept happening to me when I was on the waiting list for fertility treatment - I ended up having a total meltdown in the clinic one day (think, shouting, crying, snot everything) when I arrived to find my appointment had been cancelled with no notice for the third time! DH nearly died of embarassment. Luckily I got pregnant naturally shortly after that, as I wasn't filled full of confidence about having treatment with those guys!

(am not usually meltdown prone, was just v v stressed!)

elliejjtiny · 17/12/2012 16:35

I'm not "older" (I'm 30) although my mil thinks I am because she had DH at 18 and BIL at 20. My mum is the opposite, she thinks everyone under 30 is a young mum.

Having a manic week this week. Got things on every day and now the midwife wants to do a booking in appointment, eek. I've asked for a clinic appointment, not a home visit as they are more likely to keep to time. Hopefully she won't think I asked that because my house is a hovel!

Cheeseandbread · 17/12/2012 17:17

Not feeling that great today. Sickness and fever bugs are rife in school at the moment with 1/3 of pupils off. So not sure if morning sickness has started to kick in or if I've caught the kids lurgy... Feeling sorry for myself either way... Almost went to tell the head I am pregnant today as really doesn't feel that good being surrounded by sickness and fever sending kids home throughout the day.

Looking forward to the next week being over with booking in appointment on Friday and scan a week today! Just need to survive staff meal out on Thursday without being sussed out...

Sorry for the self indulgent moan... Hope everyone else has had good days.

Cutandstick · 17/12/2012 17:48

Hi all,
Had my 12 week scan today. Am 12 + 4. Was dated as 29th June at an earlier scan at EPU, which they are sticking with, but I'm two days ahead of that today. Can't believe how much the legs have grown in the last two weeks! Scarily large nose (?!) hopefully all will even out Confused as it grows!!
Bought some maternity jeans today the comfort is AMAZING!! -the bloating less so
Also in the over 35 group for DC1. Hope no-one minds if I stay in the July group, I'd miss you all!!

ArkadyRose · 17/12/2012 19:22

dinky Highly unlikely there are two of us - Arkady is my real name, and I suspect I'm the only female Arkady in this country. I couldn't hang on all afternoon on hold trying to get through though, so I'll just have to try again tomorrow morning. I'm guessing someone just cocked up on the data entry and the Feb appointment is the "real" one though, as I'll be 16 weeks then which makes sense.

AmaDablam · 17/12/2012 19:29

Great news cutandstick, yes defintely you should stay with us July-ers. I only need to be a week or so late and I'll be in August, and I'm not planning on going anywhere!

Thanks everyone for the "older mum" solidarity! That's so lovely supershiv that a little surprise came along for you after all those years. For me it was just a case of not meeting the right man until I was nearly 33! My age isn't something that's a major hang up for me, but does play on my mind a bit, especially as a friend who is 18 months younger than me and about 12 weeks further along, mentioned that she is always getting comments about being "older". Fortunately my own MW didn't bat an eyelid when she saw my DOB. As someone mentioned, it probably depends on where you live. I don't really know what the demographic is around here as none of my friends with kids live locally, but the parents at the primary school round the corner look my age and upwards so that's reassuring!

Euuurgh - Jonnie Vegas is just biting into an enormous piece of soft smelly cheese on the One Show - as if I needed anything to make me feel even more nauseous Confused (sorry Jonnie, usually I think you're great!)

MightBeMad · 18/12/2012 08:46

Morning all! 9 weeks today!! Grin still feeling a bit better so waiting a little nervously for my private scan on Friday. If that is good I might allow myself to relax a bit!

Happy Tuesdays all round x

photographerlady · 18/12/2012 09:56

might have a lovely scan!

CottonSock · 18/12/2012 10:06

Morning all just been catching up.
Went bra shopping at weekend and already wishing I had gone another size bigger. Already at 32 e/f..
I ended the sex drought for dh at weekend and then had an achy cervix since which sent me into a google panic. I'm sure I am just paranoid. Now 12 week scan ok I am already worrying about 2nd trimester mc, incompetent cervix. I need to chill out and try and enjoy this!
Have a good day all.
13 + 0 ish!

wifey6 · 18/12/2012 10:58

Morning all...glad to see more positive scans. Smile awaiting mine on Sunday. Very nervous after MMC in April..but have to think positively. My DM is coming with me as DH will have DS. Hopefully be giving wonderful news to everyone over Christmas. Had bloods done with MW this morning & she already has me booked in to hear baby's HB in January. Smile I love their positivity. I think after Sunday I will relax & really start to enjoy this lovely journey.

specialknickers · 18/12/2012 11:59

I'm older! I'm 40! No one's batted an eyelid either, but maybe because this will be number two? I live quite a middle class area with lots of older London refugee mums though, so I'm probably not far off average where I am.

I've got another scan tomorrow... hoping all these good scans everyone's having are going to spread luck around the whole board!

Well done everyone who's coming out of this first trimester, what a relief that must be...

Quinandthem · 18/12/2012 11:59

Morning ladies (& gent)

had my 12 week scan this morning and (even with all my doubts that nothing would be there due to my lack of symptoms) there was a healthy little bean with a stong heartbeat.

Measured 12+2 which makes me officially due 30th June - but like Cutandstick you're not getting rid of me...

The real shock was the 20wk scan is booked for 12th Feb, 12th FEB - how can we be 20wks by then already!!!

So now i can relax and realise i'm a jammy cow for getting through the first 12 wks with no MS - hopefully the rest is a smooth.

Good luck for the rest of the July beans

specialknickers · 18/12/2012 12:00

(still sick as a dog by the way and 10+3)

esme80 · 18/12/2012 12:45

Hi everyone!
Yay on the positive scans, have my 12 week one on monday and cant wait!
This is a fun household at the moment. All of us have caught a stomach bug. Poor DS was up all night being sick. Just hate seeing him like that. With that and the constant MS Im starting to forget what its like not to feel sick...
