Hello all, am new here but will try to pick up on the lingo! I'm 8+4 and have my booking in appointment on 7th January - hoping that I'll have the dating scan at the same time but not clued up enough yet on this! I've been lucky and not had any MS yet, just plenty of fatigue and bloating (which feels disgusting!) so I'm feeling rather grateful so far.

First pregnancy, and have told just a few friends at work so far, no family yet as I couldn't cope with the ridiculous excitement! It's far nicer to keep this secret as long as possible - hopefully until after the scan. I don't normally drink much usually so it's not enormously difficult to cover myself. This all sounds a bit jammy, so I'll hush now!! Be good to talk to others though :)

Welcome MrsRoss and hurrah for the good scans! Quin - I hvent had morning sickness either but have been struggling rather with tiredness - I guess if you dont get one annoying ymptom you get a different one instead.

Arkady - hmm, sounds like they messed up then! Hope you get through today to confirm which one is the correct apptment.

Cutandstick · 18/12/2012 13:24

Congrats to all on exciting scans!!
Quin we have the same day for our 20 week scan, it's suddenly all happening, and with my bloated stomach I don't think it's going to stay secret for very long! Anyone got top advice on maternity clothes? Especially for work?
Happy scans! Xmas Grin

elliejjtiny · 18/12/2012 14:40

I got a letter for my 20 week scan in the post today, 18th February. Feels like things are going faster now.

MightBeMad · 18/12/2012 15:19

Wow! Dates for 20 weeks scans already!!!

notprincesskate · 18/12/2012 15:30

Yay for all the positive news on scans I've got mine on thurs, and starting to get a little nervous, 12hr shift at work tomorrow so that will keep my mind occupied and christmas party thurs am, so it will be here in a flash. Seriously hoping that there is something in there, as unlikely to be able to keep bulging belly a secret much longer, bloating seems to just be in eve now, but even without that DH said the other day "errrr wow, how do we keep THAT a secret much longer" oh yeah thanks, in fat jeans now and one pair of stretchy cords so will also be grateful for my maternity wardrobe!

photographerlady · 18/12/2012 15:42

Wow did you get your 20 week before your 12 even happen? Fast movers

shelley72 · 18/12/2012 16:23

afternoon, good news on all the scans Smile.

still waiting for mine, next friday - wish it was before christmas really so that at least i would know if everything was ok or not. i am not feeling pregnant at all - apart from having a HUGE tummy which i am not going to be able to hide for very much longer Sad - though that could be down to the fact that i have not stopped eating at all this last week. no symptoms, no sickness, no change in boobs, no cravings, no aversions to food - nothing. am dreading the scan next week.

also feeling a bit guilty as b/feeding has been hurting a lot bit and so i think DD has got fed up with me and started to self wean. i always wanted her to self wean but i still feel a bit sad about it.

its nice to see that there are many of us on here the better side of 40. i was amazed that i did fall pg after my mum so helpfully told me i was 'past it' now Grin!

so is everyone ready for christmas?!

11 weeks today

twirliedobbit · 18/12/2012 16:24

So only one more week till my scan, unfortunately not feeling any pregnancy symptoms but think its cause they've all been overtaken by this dreaded illness, I feel like I've swallowed a golf ball Xmas Sad

dinkystinky · 18/12/2012 16:30

Shelley - my friends who bf while pregnant with no 2/3 said that it was pretty painful - and their DC self weaned too. I think the taste/consistency might change while pregnant.

elliejjtiny · 18/12/2012 17:53

DS1 and DS3 both self weaned when I was pregnant. In fact DS3 did it twice! He self weaned during my last pregnancy and then after my miscarriage my milk came in and I managed to successfully relactate. He carried on for another 10 months and then self weaned again when I was pregnant this time.

photographer I got my 12 week scan early (11 weeks) which must have triggered the system to send me a date for my 20 week scan.

AmaDablam · 18/12/2012 19:04

Great news on all the scans coming through! I finally got a date for mine on 8th Jan. My heart sank when I realised it's the one day that really clashes with a work related thing that absolutely can't be rearranged or covered by someone else Sad. I hate, hate, HATE to put work before "bump" but in this case I feel I have no choice so am reluctantly trying to rearrange it. So far I've only managed to get through to an answerphone. Left details for a call back but suspect I will have to keep chasing. Hmmmph.

I wimped out of telling my boss face to face that I'm expecting so have just sent an email to her and her manager. Not looking forward to dealing with the fallout from that tomorrow!

Nausea is really bad today, and DH is coming down with a lurgie as well (either that or he is getting sympathy symptoms!) so we're one feeling sorry for ourselves household at the moment Xmas Sad. I honestly can't imagine how people get through these difficult weeks with one or more little ones to look after, especially single mums or those whose DH's are unable or unwilling to help out as much as mine has been. Seriously I'm in awe!

Sorry for such a downbeat post - feeling a little fragile today.

butterflyexperience · 18/12/2012 22:10

Hi ama I'm at the same stage as you and I'm feeling bluegh too.
Bloated, shortness of breath and annoyed with dh over everything!!
I'm sure your work will be really supportive but good luck for tomorrow anyway

photographerlady · 18/12/2012 22:12

Yeah ama the work things hard. My boss keeps delaying my review. We don't care for each other much so I am not fussed anyway. I don't know if I should just ignore the delayed review at this point and email in come feb (16wks) that I'm pregnant.

Cheeseandbread · 19/12/2012 05:13

ama we all feel a bit down now and then. Hope you feel more positive today. Good luck talking to your boss.

Congratulations to all those who have had happy healthy scans. I can't believe people are getting 20 week ones booked already. Time feels like it's dragging for me. Almost half way through the week though...

AmaDablam · 19/12/2012 06:32

Aah, thanks guys. I feel a bit bad posting a rather self indulgent moan last night - am usually quite a positive person and have to keep reminding myself that this was what I always wanted and I do feel really happy and fortunate to be pregnant! It's just hard sometimes!

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't have a great relationship with the boss. It's even worse with the senior manager - he has a tendency to be really awful with people who have handed in their notice, as if they have "betrayed" him or something by wanting to leave. I just hope he's not going to be like that with me now for the next 6 months! Oh well, I'm probably worrying over nothing and might be pleasantly surprised by the reaction...

Have a good day everyone - nearly Christmas Xmas Smile

photographerlady · 19/12/2012 08:39

I think we have the same boss ;)

Today I'm biting the bullet and getting a flu shot. I am pretty against the things but my office is full of guys and they never take off work when they have the flu... See if this lowers my chances of catching it. Normally this is something I would never due but my DH and GP keep giving me "the flu talk".

dinkystinky · 19/12/2012 10:52

Hope you and DH are feeling better and less blue today AmaDablam. Am sure your bosses will be ok with you.

Photographerlady - am ignoring the flu jab advice as every time I've had the jab I've come down with terrible flu, but in years I havent (including when pregnant previously) I've avoided it entirely! Pretty rare for the gus in your office to work through the flu - most guys I know at work head for the sofa and duvet at the first sign of a sniffle...

SlouchingPanda · 19/12/2012 10:56

Just checking in! Exciting times here in Team July with all these positive scans and us on the cusp of the first trimester...

I'm still 8 days away from my 12 week scan, but my exciting news is that I heard the heartbeat with a doppler today! I can't stop smiling Grin. It was so definitely there! Not the my most glamorous moment, lying on the toilet floor at work, covered in jelly for hours with a doppler I'd snuck in down the back of my trousers, but who cares!

Have already had the flu jab at work and it was fine. My arm just hurt a little afterward, but after last year when my husband had full blown flu with 40 C fevers and a week in bed, and I was totally fine, I'd say a hurting arm is a small price to pay.

Ama do not worry at all about self indulgent, downbeat posts. We all feel like that some days. Sometimes it helps just writing it down, and chances are someone else is going through the same thing... chin up! We'll get through this into the bouncy-haired, boundless energy, glowing phase, I swear

10+6 (and I'm 35, so moderately old for my first. Apparently.)

MightBeMad · 19/12/2012 11:19

Grin Slouching! I had a scan at 16 weeks last time and when the sonographer asked me how I was I said 'fine, but not exactly glowing yet, I still feel rubbish'. To which she replied that she'd been in the job 25 years and hadn't seen a pregnant woman 'glow' yet Grin Grin

Though at about 17 weeks I suddenly no longer feel like death warmed up and in comparason I guess I was glowing Wink

elliejjtiny · 19/12/2012 13:56

Slouching Grin at you sneaking off to the loo with a stolen doppler.

I've got my booking in appointment at the birth centre on Saturday and I'm quite excited [sad loser emoticon]. I've managed to palm DS1 and DS2 off on DH but apparantly he can't cope with all 3 (although I manage to Hmm) so I have to take DS3 with me. He is nearly 2 and is likely to cause havoc so hope it won't take too long.

specialknickers · 19/12/2012 15:05

Slouching I'm still chuckling at you with that doppler... Thank god no one saw you.

So I've just come back from the last scan with the consultant... and... 10+5, good heartbeat, everything just as it should be. Next one is the NT scan, booked on new year's eve at the antenatal unit with everyone else. It feels like a massive milestone.

Still doesn't feel real though...

MrsMillions · 19/12/2012 15:10

Hello ladies and Paolo

Had my dating scan this morning - put me at 10+4 which is much closer to the 10+6 I thought I was than the 11+6 mw had me at. Due date 13th July - will add myself to the list at last shortly. Heart was beating away and baby was kicking its legs a lot, very reassuring and a much happier hospital visit than our trips to EPAU with previous pregnancies. DH was pretty quiet, said he would be happier tonight but I could see in his eyes he was relieved and delighted.

Measurements meant it was too soon for the NT stuff so we're booked in for another scan on Jan 2nd for that, feel quite lucky to get an extra.

Think that calls for lots of big grinning smileys: Grin Xmas Grin Grin Xmas Grin

Grin

I'd just like to stress that it was a big single room facility, in case anyone has a mental image of me lying in a tiny cubicle with people going in & out on either side!

I was there for ages though, so no doubt my colleagues now think I have some seriously bad bowel issues.

Still smiling though Grin
