manda Consultant appointment is the same as a MW IME.
Re work, my normal job involves a lot of visits which aren't optional , the stuff they offered me is officially in my job description but we don't do a lot in my team so it would be covering for another team. Am hoping for a compromise of a bit of both. It's only 3 months keep repeating to myself

StormyBrid · 24/10/2012 11:49

Maybe because you're seeing the consultant near the 24 week mark, there's no need to see the midwife? Same as how the 20 week scan means no midwife appointment.

Rainbowbabyhope · 24/10/2012 11:51

Manda you should be getting an appointment to see someone around 24 weeks as these are your first babies, however if you are seeing your consultant around then it may be your midwife didn't think another appointment is necessary as you generally get the same checks carried out at consultant appointments i.e. bp, urine dip etc. As for AIMs website - the more I read it the more I realised it has a strong homebirth agenda so apologies for that. For me its not an issue as I feel its no bad thing to hear other side of things given how much pro hospital material we are faced with every day without the risks of hospital births ever being properly addressed. However appreciate not everyone wants to delve into the risks of hospital births as homebirth is not a realistic option in every case.

zooey I have been getting increasingly veiny all over! Your blood volume increases a huge amount in pregnancy and your breasts have to prepare for breast feeding so its to be expected. I personally love all of these changes - whenever I look in the mirror I can't quite believe my body knows all the stuff it has to do automatically to grow a little one. Tbh I feel way more comfortable with my body while pregnant than at any other time because I know that I look just as I am supposed too while at all other times its up to me to do something to control it!

Em2010 · 24/10/2012 12:30

Quick rant! This morning I have tried 3 times to buy a sodding mitten string on jojo maman bebe website! Each time my card comes up as not being accepted thanks to the banks stringent fraud protection! I have spoken to the bank who keep unlocking my card and then something else keeps stopping it! All I want is a mitten string for my ds!!! Also, on a more civilised note, anyone in the York vicinity there is a new Jojo shop opening and on the website you can get a £5 voucher to spend there. Happy days....

GummiberryJuice · 24/10/2012 12:42

Manda there is diffently an appointment space in my notes that says 24 weeks (first pregnancy only) although I have one due to thyroid

Met thyroid doc last night, I now think all appointments should be at night if I was there 10 mins that would be an exaggeration. He was very good but really a meet and greet and he will see a week after 24 week appointment to go over my bloods and make any adjustments.

Very excited with all your scan news, goodluck today Ted, oh and Zoey for mole removal.

We were at hosp this morn with dd1 to show dh how to do her injections all went well, I was very proud of both of them so we all went to Starbucks (I have no idea about the mn thing, just seen ref to something) and then dropped her at school.

Lexi hope you are ok and you know where we are x

Right shall catch up with everyone later need lunch!

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 24/10/2012 12:42

em get elastic from the market, much cheaper!

mandasand · 24/10/2012 12:43

Thanks, Rainbow - I think from what everyone's said I'll just go ahead and book myself a MW appt for 24 weeks. From what I understand she isn't kept abreast of what happens at the hospital, apart from what she reads in my blue notes. I made a note to make a doctor's appt at 25 weeks and a MW appt for 28 weeks, but it's v. possible I got that the wrong way around!

I think the strong home birth agenda is definitely a good thing, Rainbow, but I know with my uterine history I will prob have to have CS and with twins I'm not even allowed in the MW led unit, boo! If things were more straightforward (and they may well be - I just have to see what the consultant has learned about what happened to me 15yrs ago) I would just love to have a go at active birth yoga, meditation, water birth, and all that. It sounds so superb. But, things being as they are, I'll definitely settle for two healthy babies however they emerge into the world! Smile I feel pretty confident that, although the chances are it will be a v. medicalised birth, my hospital happens to specialise in multiple pregnancies.

Oh, have you all seen this ace site which I've been meaning to share, tellmeagoodbirthstory.com, all about positive birthing experiences? I love going back to it and wept buckets when I first read it! Absolutely lovely.

Right, off to the physio shortly. Happy afternoons!

theTramp · 24/10/2012 14:26

Question: anyone here affected by changes to child tax benefits? If so my lovely jouralist friend at the Telegraph would love to talk to you and feature you as a case study to illustrate what the changes mean for families finances. She was particularly keen on any families where one parent stays at home or both parents work part time already.

Not sure if you anyone is up for this or not but if you are let me know.

Emus · 24/10/2012 15:01

Gummi we are staying at The Stratophere hotel (the one with the mental roller coaster on top) as that's where they are getting married. :-)

Trying to catch up on what I've missed whilst waiting for flight to be called. We got upgraded which is going to help with the comfort levels for sure Grin.

Good luck to the ladies having scans today.

pinkpeony4 · 24/10/2012 16:03

Place marking because I am struggling to keep up now it's half term. Back home after a lovely time with my father & having to quickly empty my kitchen because the builders have told me they want to start on Friday instead of November! Scan tomorrow - eek!

Lots of luck to everyone with scans today and who has had them this week. Hope/glad all goes/went well Grin

Emus have a fab time in Vegas, fab news about being upgraded Grin

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 24/10/2012 16:27

HermioneBoo · 24/10/2012 16:55

Hi Everyone!
My scan was at 830 this morning, first one in so less time to feel nervous (though I still managed to wind myself up the night before!). Team pink for BabyBoo! She was moving about so much the sonographer had a tough time getting all the measurements but she managed and everything is looking good. In my notes there's a series of graphs, no idea what they mean, anyone else have these?
She didn't say anything about the placenta but I presume since I've been feeling kicks for a while now and no-one has said anything that it must be positioned just fine. I saw her swallowing, so as a former speech therapist that was really interesting to see, I saw her stretching her legs out and her feet and hands are so sweet!
I felt a bit bad initially when the sonographer said that BabyBoo was a girl cos I wasn't sure what to think, I had my suspicions all along that she was a she so it wasn't a surprise. I always thought I'd get on better with a son, the more I think about it the more I love the idea of having a daughter. My friends with children all have girls and they're so gorgeous and they're not girly or princessy - think that's the bit I'm worried about as I'm not girly! I also have some very good female friends as inspiration, ones a black belt in kickboxing, another is a triathlete, another is really clever and such a kind, thoughtful person. They'd all tell me if I was being a bit like my mum with my DD (ahhh so cool to type DD!)

HermioneBoo · 24/10/2012 17:07

zoey yes! I have blue veins on both boobs and down both sides of my bump too. I think it's quite nice really, like rainbow I feel very comfortable being pregnant so far, I find it amazing that my body knows what to do to create a whole little person, I'd have no idea! I do have days where it freaks me out a bit though and I avoid the mirror, nips are ridiculously big, I think if I didn't have DH constantly telling me how amazing it all is I'd be far less comfortable with it all.

I've just been told that my friend who is a photographer and I haven't seen in years is going to do a bump photoshoot and a baby photoshoot when BabyBoo arrives - all for free! I'm so excited! I've never had a pro photoshoot for me, my wedding photos were taken by a couple of talented friends but never been able to afford it so never bothered!

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 24/10/2012 17:30

hermoine I've 3 girls and am v not Girly. One is a bit half heartedly trying now as a teen and the other two like pretty dresses and rough & tumble!
Charts might be personalised growth charts. When I had my booking appt I was told my hospital dies them now. Not got any yet though.

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 24/10/2012 17:32

I am going to get a children photo shoot thing when dc4 is born as I'd like a good group one and have only managed 1 nice pic in 2 years with the current 3, an hoping a professional can do bette!

backwardpossom · 24/10/2012 17:40

Afternoon everyone, have had a quick catch up but have typically forgotten who said what...

zoey I hope mole removal was ok. And everyone who had scans today, hope they were great!

Still pottering along, another week to go until my scan. Don't want it to arrive too quickly as it marks the end of my holidays from work until Christmas, too! Have been doing a lot of knitting, when DS lets me that is, and have made a pair of booties for my friend who had a wee boy just a few days ago. I'm just finishing them up, but I'll take a pic when I'm totally finished. I'm going to attempt a wee hat, too, but I've never knitted with a circular needle before, so it could be interesting...!

backwardpossom · 24/10/2012 18:03

Saw this Q&A about flu jab that Mumsnet has done - v. informative...

tedmundo · 24/10/2012 19:30

The scan went well, everything fine and we are still on Team Yellow!

Roll on early March....

GummiberryJuice · 24/10/2012 19:36

Yey Ted glad it went well

Less than a week to go for me, and 19 weeks tomorrow

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 24/10/2012 19:38

I'm a scan-next-week too gummi

OctoberCarrot · 24/10/2012 20:08

Well I am going to be a mum of two handsome little boys. I am thrilled DS will have a buddy only 17 months younger. For a millisecond I mourned pinkness but we are really thrilled. It will be great form DS and there is something cool about being the only girl in the house.

They think I may have placenta previa and accreta due to previous section. Will have to monitor it and make a plan for another section if it is a definite. Googled it and when I read that is what Amanda Holden had I decided to stop as was freakinf myself out.

Glad to hear all scans went well and yay for team pink, blue and yellow Smile

GummiberryJuice · 24/10/2012 20:42

October Yey for another ds, yes best not to google sometimes, I googled some red patches during the week and got some harmless virus unless pregnant which freaked me out, my gp is sooo laid back, so now that I can't be sure I have felt little bean today I'm freaking out again

Ood what day are you? I'm Tuesday

backwardpossom · 24/10/2012 20:51

Congrats October!

FloweryBoots · 24/10/2012 20:59

Manda I had appointment at 17 weeks ish and she said no need to come back until 34 weeks!!! Have 1 consultant appointment (next week, at 21 1/2 weeks) between and she said they will also do standard checks when I go for glucose tollerence test and Anti D Jab though I suspec tthey wont. If you're seeing consultant you should be fine, but no one will stop you making the appointment so get one if you want one I say!

I remember boobs getting very vainy last time round. Was getting ready to go to friends wedding at MIL house (DH was best man) and MIL suggested I put some foundation on my chest as looked very vainy and I already had coneler and foundation on them!

Our scan tomorrow at mid day. Think I have a scan buddy too? Hoping to find out what type of baby we're getting and perhaps we might then start thinking of names and get some planning done. Probably not though, got this house move to sort first! rented property back on the market now and first viewing on Fri but still not exchanged contracts so bit nervous we might land up homeless. Hopefully can exchange on Friday bloody stupid mortgage people delaying our stuff for no sesible reason

Hamnvik · 24/10/2012 21:00

Hello all! I've not posted much lately, just been waiting impatiently for my scan ( one week to go!) And trying not to think about baby stuff too much because I don't want to buy things until after the scan.

Glad to hear everyone else is getting on well and yey for those of you who have had scans already!

I will post a bump pic on fb later but for now I'm off to have some veggie chilli! Yum!
