Hi ladies, happy birthday to those who've been celebrating and welcome emily and empire :)

Who can tell me about Braxton Hicks? I think I had one last night in bed - felt weird, tight and almost like I needed a poo but it wasn't that. Not painful at all, just uncomfortable and weird. Is that a BH?

Movements wise haven't been counting as such, just trying to keep an eye on movement generally. Tends to be active early in the morning, evening and when I eat (which is quite often I've realised!). I tried the torch thing last night but baby didn't seem interested! I'm 29+5 so poss have to be a bit further along?

I finish work 5 weeks today and I CAN'T WAIT!!

Birdies · 07/11/2012 13:28

It does sound like one tugs - your tummy would go really hard and tight too

bealos · 07/11/2012 14:54

Isn't monitoring movements just another sign of paranoia over zealous medical professionals?

You'd know if your baby stopped moving for a couple of days, right? Then you'd do something about it?

Or is there something more sinister here I should be thinking about?

bealos · 07/11/2012 14:56

And I'm really liking Mumsnet's recipe of the week -
a microwave brownie in a mug!

BuntyCollocks · 07/11/2012 15:38

bealos monitoring movements can pick up a baby in distress, and hopefully save it. As someone up thread has said, you should be aware of your own baby's pattern - mine generally has a kick when I wake up, one at breakfast, whenever I have a cold drink, mealtimes, and when I get in from work/sitting down after putting DS to bed.

When she didn't move at her normal times, I got checked out at the weekend, and I'm so glad I did. They'd rather see 100 false alarms than miss 1 baby in trouble.

Brugmansia · 07/11/2012 16:11

That's what I understood. If the movement level decreases it may indicate that something is wrong. The sooner it's picked up the more likely they can save the baby. Waiting a couple of days may be too late.

Pascha · 07/11/2012 16:28

I'm so tired. Just dozed off on the sofa with my legs under a pile of vehicles and a digger dvd on in the background. Woke at 4.15am for a wee and couldn't get back to sleep, been up since 6 and now its catching up with me.

Need to get up and peel potatoes soon. Can't be bothered right now. DS seems vaguely occupied at least.

Complicated24 · 07/11/2012 16:45

Pascha good for you. sounds as though you needed it. I've just woken up from a lovely doze on sofa too and have another nosebleed. Getting fed up with them now as they're messy. I'm wondering whether I am getting more as am on daily aspirin - consultant put me on them as am at heightened risk of pre-eclampsia due to age. Another thing to ask MW on Friday.

Pascha · 07/11/2012 16:56

Sad thats sounds rubbish complicated The doze hasn't been very refreshing what with having to peel spuds and play rockets with the cars Hmm. Hope you get those nosebleeds under control. It could be something to do with the aspirin.

BuntyCollocks · 07/11/2012 16:58

Quite right, pascha Get DH to bring in ready peeled potatoes, or mash, whatever you're having ;) Put your feet up for another half an hour, at this stage, it's definitely needed, especially if you're not sleeping well.

complicated sorry about your nosebleeds, no handy hints I'm afraid, but hope your midwife can help on Friday.

Pascha · 07/11/2012 17:02

Bangers mash and beans tonight (well, might do veg but only if he prepares it). Tatoes already peeled now as had to sort DS's tea but the freezer is already rammed full of ready to cook mash and veg and box food and leftover bits of stew etc ready for in a couple of months time.

Brugmansia · 07/11/2012 17:19

I'm waiting to hear if DP it's going to have to stay overnight for work today. If he does I'm stopping off on the way home in Sainsburys for a ready meal as I can't be bothered to cook. Quite hoping this is what will happen as I can also then just collapse on the sofa and catch up with masterchef.

Pascha · 07/11/2012 17:23

If it was me Brug I'd be stopping at McDs for a large quarterpounder meal and strawberry milkshake, then dipping all the chips in the shake Grin. In fact, do it anyway Grin

Brugmansia · 07/11/2012 17:36

I'm thinking pizza. I've also developed a bit of a magnum infinity obsession (despite not having a sweet tooth pre-pregnancy). There's a box in the freezer that I picked up yesterday, so followed by one of them.

happyhow · 07/11/2012 17:52

I'm having salmon burgers! Unfortunately I need to do a bit tutoring first so it'll be 7.45pm at least before I get dinner...

I haven't been properly counting kicks or anything but mine moves constantly so there's no mistaking that there's something going on inside! I get quiet little spells but they don't really last long. I'm getting loads of feelings that are hard to describe though... The best I can come up with is when you see a puppy or dog dreaming and they are clearly running after a squirrel or rabbit and their legs keep twitching!!! Anyone else get that kind of feeling? Baby has been doing it pretty constantly for the last 15 mins or so...

my hubby isn't in the least bit interested in reading anything about Baby's dvelopment or labour. I think he's actualy quite scared of labour and he's not keen on going to the classes next week. We're just doing the NHS ones. He's not good with blood or pain (we took his parent's dog to the vet last year and she had to have her temperature taken - he couldn't stay in the room because she was already howling in pain and then had that shoved up her bum!!)

Pascha · 07/11/2012 17:53

Mmm, cheesy crust pepperoni with wedges and chocolate pudding for dessert...

AppleCrumples · 07/11/2012 18:09

happy that sounds a bit like hiccups. Dh never been that interested in the labour stuff but at this point he knows what to expect and shudders at the mere mention

complicated I hope midwife can help with nosebleeds they sound awful x

Have had little naps in the last couple of afternoons, just need the rest now I think.

BuntyCollocks · 07/11/2012 18:28

Oh, mcd quarterpounder with cheese ... Yum. Glad I'm not the only freak that dips my fries into the milkshake. Dipping into a mcflurry is even better though!

emilyeggs · 07/11/2012 18:38

I agree with apple happy it does sound like hiccups, I get that a lot and can be quite distracting.

Nose bleeds sound awful complicated and quite annoying, hope your ok Smile

I have a scan tomorrow to see if my placenta has moved up (it was only borderline low lying so not really worried) so I get to see mini eggs one last time Grin DH has been really quiet work wise this last week and a bit (self employed) but the one morning I want him he's busy Angry so I'm going on my own Sad. Never mind, I'll get him back by finding out the sex Grin only kidding.

Hope all are well and enjoying pizza/ready meal/ McD's....I'm roasting chestnuts for a snack

happyhow · 07/11/2012 19:11

Totally didn't think it would be hiccups.... I thought hiccups were supposed to be quite rhythmical and only last 30 secs or so. Confused When I've been thinking it was hiccups I had proper thuds every 5ish seconds for about 30 secs and it would go quiet again. Hmmm... This feels like weird vibrations but yes, it is very distracting!! Does this mean I'm going to have an allergy prone baby? It's hiccuping all the time! My friend knew hers would be lactose intolerant coz it got hiccups after she ate dairy....

I've never dipped fries in my milkshake but I usually put some fries in my mouth and have a big gulp of milkshake at the same time so it's basically the same thing!! GrinGrinGrin

Lora1982 · 07/11/2012 19:23

i think hiccups are just preparing their lungs for breathing. although ive also heard if they go on for ages and ages... like hours it could also mean the cords trappin the babys breathing attempts too

Birdies · 07/11/2012 19:47

brug magnum infinitys are my absolute favourites - trouble is when they're in the freezer I can't forget about them. I was good just now though and had a mini almond magnum instead. And a Bounty earlier....but that's actually not too bad for me!

Given the amount I'm eating its probably not surprising, but I've absolutely ballooned in the last week. I'm struggling to change DDs nappies and even just to bend to get my boots on to go out. A coat I bought 3 weeks ago that did u around my bump is now about a foot off fitting so there's been a big growth spurt! Anyone else feeling massive now?

Re movements, does anyone know if it's ok if baby has a really active day? Mine has been kicking on and off for most of the day and my tummy is just moving around constantly, more than ever i think, whereas normally it's mainly mornings and evenings. Presume it's just no movement that's a worry?

AppleCrumples · 07/11/2012 20:06

birdies i think it's any noticable change but no movements would be more of a worry. Think like us they have lazy days and days where they are more active.

I noticed this week that I'm struggling to get my boots on too I just can't seem to bend round my bump so sort of have to reach over it

salt1 · 07/11/2012 20:44

thanks for the constipation/ pooing advice. i must give prune juice a try, as i am trying everything else and something must eventually work, though i actually feel a lot better today, and had 9 hours sleep with only a couple of interuptions.

dieciocho · 08/11/2012 07:17

Apple, yep, I wish the weather were warmer so then I could just wear flip-flops. Trying my shoe laces is now uncomfy and I worry that I'm squashing my bump too much.
