Had parents evening today not entirely successful :( Ds1 appears to be cruising a bit. He's 9 and I'd noticed he just dies the bare minimum of his homework and his teacher has also picked up on this. Not really sure what to do I refuse to fo it for him and dont really want to have to stand over him. Maybe it's just his age? He's not stupid but he prefers to read a book.

On the tens machines I only used one with my first which was a long time ago! IIRC it did take my mind off the contractions by annoying me! It may have worked better if i'd had a go with it before but also it was an induction and my quickest and most painful labour

AppleCrumples · 06/11/2012 20:39

does not dies! Stupid iPod!

emilyeggs · 06/11/2012 21:17

complicated the one I got comes with a DVD otherwise I'd be really stuck! I'm hiring it for five weeks, they send it out to you three weeks before due date so not do expensive Wink

PixelCarrier · 06/11/2012 21:24

I also agree with the prunes/ linseed/ and plenty of fluids advice! Definitely works...

pmgkt · 06/11/2012 21:31

im also hiring my tens as i did last time. £19 for 6 weeks. scarey thing is i pick it up on 7th dec!. im sure your mw or nct group can give you details of local companies as well as on line hiring

Birdies · 06/11/2012 22:11

complicated I borrowed the Mama Tens machine last time and have just bought one for myself. I found it very easy to use and I used the same pads on and off for 3 days (and during the birth itself as no time to take them off!).

There were a couple of reviews on amazon about electric shocks which slightly worried me but its such a popular machine that must be very rare and I didn't have any trouble with mine. The key is prob to test it out first (I may use DH as a guinea pig haha)

Complicated24 · 06/11/2012 22:43

Thanks for all the advice on tens machines. Am seeing MW on Friday, got hospital visit on Sat and starting NCT classes next week so lots of opportunities to ask about hiring. Will feel so much happier once attended a few classes as feel scarily unprepared at moment and I keep on thinking little one is going to arrive early. Just need to finish work in 2.5 wks, buy rest of stuff we need, sort out nursery, do Christmas cards then baby can arrive! DH just shone torch on tummy and got a massive kick.

Brugmansia · 07/11/2012 06:51

Are people counting kicks and generally monitoring movements now? I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this so I can get a better idea of what a moral pattern of movement is.I tried downloading one app but it was a bit rubbish so am now just making a note on my phone each time I feel a definite movement but it's a bit cumbersome doing this.

Brugmansia · 07/11/2012 06:53

Normal pattern

EmpireBiscuit · 07/11/2012 07:10

Hey everyone, room for a huge wee one?

Expecting a boy on 17/01. He is currently chilling out the wrong way up, does anyone have suggestions for turning a breech baby? Midwife was close to useless!

pmgkt · 07/11/2012 07:13

I am not doing anything to monitor as such but I am just trying to make sure that when I expect movement I get it. For example I know it moves when I drive, sit a certain way or lie down. The rest of the day I just sort of acknowledge them and remember that they have happened. I tend to rub my bump and say hello to it so that I remember it. I don't count them at all though.

pmgkt · 07/11/2012 07:14

Empire I suggest getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing any floors you can in your house. It gets a job done but also turns babies. Worth a go worked for me.

BuntyCollocks · 07/11/2012 07:35

Welcome emily and empire!

First day back at work since Friday. Still choked with the cold, but feel I need to as I've finally got my whooping cough jab today, and then I need to leave early for DS's Halloween/bonfire party tomo, and on a half day Friday.

For anyone suffering with painful hips/thighs/sacrum etc, I can thoroughly recommend going to a chiropractor. I dragged my sorry carcas last night, and the relief has been amazing; I'm actually moving and walking mostly without pain. Need a few more sessions, but what a difference.

Birdies · 07/11/2012 08:47

brug I'm not counting either. I know she's busy in the night and evenings so I would notice if she was quiet. If you want to do it though I'd suggest doing the method on this site as its just a quick once a day thing:

www.countthekicks.org/how-to-count-the-kicks/

Welcome empire

Sorry you still have a cold bunty. Good to get your wc jab done though

Birdies · 07/11/2012 08:48

PS my sister had her baby last night - my first nephew! Has made me even more excited about having mine soon!

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/11/2012 08:58

Welcome Empire

brug the midswife yesterday told me to start monitoring movement (28 week appointment). She said I just need to feel ten movements a day. I was at work yesterday so just kept a tally on a post-it note on my desk, and stopped counting when I got to ten (which was around lunchtime).

Pascha · 07/11/2012 09:11

Morning everyone. Welcome Empire go to spinningbabies loads of info on there about turning a breech baby. Widget was breech til last week but now is the right way round, I did lots of forward inversions which helped, and deffo get on hands and knees and crawl everywhere. DS was breech last time too and I had to have him turned by ECV at 37 weeks. If you're due on 17/01 you must be about 28-29 weeks? Loads of time to turn yet, they don't always settle til much later.

Congrats to your sister Birdie, hope everyone is well.

Brugmansia · 07/11/2012 09:22

That's what my midwife told me. I think I've just been getting a bit anxious about this as I know I have an anterior placenta so movement may be less obvious, and when I'm busy I tend not to notice movements unless they are quite big ones.

Complicated24 · 07/11/2012 09:25

Am off work today as had massive nosebleed when left house to get on tube. Hands and face were covered in blood so decided not to inflict that on my fellow passengers on Central Line!!! Will work from home instead.

I'm not counting kicks either but do know when baby is active now which is after I've eaten, in afternoon and at its most active in evening and night. Poor DH puts hand on my tummy first thing when we wake up hoping for a kick but little one won't oblige. I had anterior placenta at 20 wk scan so may not be feeling all movement though. We are having a private scan on Monday as don't get another one on NHS and really want to see baby again before its born.

mrsbugsywugsy · 07/11/2012 09:46

BrugI have anterior placenta too, I think the ten a day advice must be for people with AP, as that count the kicks website suggests you will feel ten in half an hour, which I never do!

katolla · 07/11/2012 10:43

Who is ready for some dumb questions?

Why are we counting kicks? I had my 28 week yesterday and she asked if it was kicking much and I said yes and that was it.

The baby has been sideways at all appointments and scans so far, does that mean she's just stuck like that? Shall I scrub the floors? I'm pretty sure that would be a popular move either way :)

My poo is fine :) #muesli

octanegirl · 07/11/2012 11:04

My consultant said to monitor patterns rather than kicks, so that's what I do. He wakes up more or less when I do, so I just lie in bed for 10-15 mins to feel him juggling about. He moves when I'm driving, after I've eaten and then again late at night. As long as what your baby does is consistent, its fine.

djvesi · 07/11/2012 11:55

katolla you crack me up! love that your poo is fine dearie Grin

Just had my midwife appointment today, a week after a clinic scan, nigh on 30 weeks. Looks like little Maya has turned during all my stressing out over garden renovation/neighbour dramas, two days little sleep, no apetite. Heartbeat on my left side just below belly button and a leg up on my right side just below the ribs. Tried out some of these fancy yoga moves but they're well difficult!

I'm quite excited that I might actually get through this pregnancy without pre eclampsia, focusing on all things chilled as much as possible.

Finnish soc sec sent me a maternity package yesterday, so exciting. Check it out! Just like christmas.

AppleCrumples · 07/11/2012 12:14

Hi girls welcome empire.

katolla I'm pretty sure there's plenty of time for baby to turn to a more sensible position. Hope so anyway as baby apple was def sideways at weekend as something far to big and round to be a foot or a hand kept pushing out of my side Shock. Am sure I now have normal sized limbs coming out of my side now so it must have turned (hopefully it's now upside down and planning to stay that way).

I'm just trying to keep an eye on movements. It's pretty active after eating, early evening and when i'm trying to sleep. If I think I haven't felt it for a while i'll have a drink and a mars bar and that ussually gets it moving.
