mabel1973 · 02/05/2006 10:59

Hi all
soooo excited about today a little nervous too - hope everything is ok. I am convinced it is a boy - I would love a girl, but I think with my 1st being a boy I can't imagine myself with a little girl - I am sure that is the same vice versa for those who had girls 1st?
We have so many boys in our family on both sides that I think that genetically I am more likely to have a boy - or is that codswallop!
Bella - vicks inhalor is fine - I tried one in depsration in the hope in would it help clear my ears as the chemist wouldn't let me have a proper nasal spray, but she said Vicks was fine.

Cori - best of luck this afternoon - I admire your self control at not finding out! Also it sounds like you are doing the right thing bedtime wise. It is so hard in the middle of the night not to just think 'sod it' and take them in to bed with you. It might take a few nights, but hopefully she'll feel reassured enough to start sleeping ok again.

mabel1973 · 02/05/2006 11:06

oh forgot to add - have just bought a 'ready bed' for DS for when we go camping in a couple of weeks (ds's 1st time!!!) Has anyone got one / tried one? Just wondered what general opinions were?

Coriander73 · 02/05/2006 11:10

Hope so Mabel...I mean at the end of the day you have to do what feels right but even then I always wonder whether it is the right thing etc...I imagine second around it has to be easier in that you have at least lived through so many different situations that perhaps I'll believe in myself a bit more :)

DH is a fabulous father but he really stuggles hearing her cry (I do also but am more prepared to put up with it a bit more than him) & gives into her much more than I do (yes, she has him wrapped around her little finger at 20 months for CS!!!!!)...i.e I am the disciplinarian at home but sometimes I just hate being bad cop...!! Someone has to do it though don't they?!!...

compo · 02/05/2006 11:11

Good luck Cori and Mabel with your scans today Smile Mine is on Monday and I'm so excited already!!

Coriander73 · 02/05/2006 11:14

That's what I think Mabel about having another girl..!!! People keep saying it's girl (obviously there is no way anyone can know other than my songrapher today!!!) but I guess as we have a girl I just see myself with another...but friends that have little boys keep telling me it's wonderful :)

Marls, yo tambien hablo espanol!!

mabel1973 · 02/05/2006 11:19

Cori - I am sure you are doing the right thing! I think we sometimes under estimate toddlers and their ability to try and work a situation the way want it, and if that involves tantrums, crying and hysteria, so so be it!
My Dh is excatly the same, ds's crying tens to 'wash over' me a bit more as I am around him more. Which doesn't mean I don't care - I just know when he 'really' means it - if that makes sense?
Don't doubt yourself - just stick with it!

Coriander73 · 02/05/2006 11:29

Quite so! She's a clever little thing...it's fascinating watching her grow & begin to manipulate certain situations....

Not sure what to think if the fact I'm pg is unsettling her (possibly because I can't change it now can I?!!). I did speak to HV last Friday who said she may be a bit young still but then "older family members"...you know the sort, tell me she is seeing me grow & picks up on the fact that I'm being more emotional, irrational etc & this is unnerving for her (??) . A friend popped over yday with her 4 yr old son (who DD adores) & her 12 week baby girl. Friend actively encouraged DD to change her nappy etc & she loved it! Hope it's a sign of things to come..:)

Motherhood.....pffffff

mabel1973 · 02/05/2006 11:57

cori - sounds like she is better with babies than DS, he has a thing about poking them in the eye or patting their faces and when he plays with the pushchairs at playgrup he throws the doll out of them Blush

Just had a text from my mum, her and my dad now have the sickness bug - it is rampant!

TopBanana · 02/05/2006 12:01

Hi everyone!!
Good luck with your scan cori Smile
My backaches a bit better now, only seems to hurt on an evening now.
Bought myself a little corsa to learn to drive in over the weekend, I'm so chuffed Grin

I really just logged on to tell you that topshop have got a huge sale on. I got 2 pairs of mat jeans for £25 each and loads of long tops for a fiver!!

homemama · 02/05/2006 12:18

Hi Ladies!
Good luck luck to Cori and Mabel with your scans. Let us know. With regards to the sex, I think it probably is a case of what you already know seems easier. That and being able to use the same clothes! Grin

MIL actually said to me over the w/e that she always feels sorry for women who don't have daughters! She said it's one of life's most amazing friendships. I felt like saying that's all very well but I'm 20wks pg so it's not like I can pop along somewhere and choose. Neither would I change my DS for the world. Sorry to rant, she gets me all defensive!

Compo, my scan is on Mon too! Mabel, I hope I don't live anywhere near your relations! Grin Grin Hope your M&D are better soon.

Coriander73 · 02/05/2006 12:49

HM, I think it's also or can be one of the most volatile / destructive relationships in the world too! Not everyone has the pefect Mother - Daughter relationship....I get on much better with MIL than my own Mother. A lot of people tell me that having sons is much easier & a lot less complicated for all concerned!! Oh well, time will tell :o (I'm quite warming to the idea of having a son!!!!!)

liquidclocks · 02/05/2006 14:45

Hi everybody! I've been away for a while as I ad to be focused writing a 5000 word assignment - now finished!!! :)

Sounds like eveyone's doing well - so lucky to have had scans already - I have to wait until the 12th for mine, seems like an age away still but can't wait, we're going to find out sex this time. I've added my due date to the list below, seems like I'm a bit later than everyone else (except Angeliz).

Has anyone had PUPP/PEP? I had it with DS but now looks like I'm going to get it again - anyone got any tips for coping, I fell apart completely last time and couldn't sleep and I only got it at 30 weeks. This time I'm barely halfway through and can't bear the thought of 20 weekss of it :(

Benjaminsmum - ignore comments about your little boy, people are just ignorant and you know how best to discipline him, no them. You asked for any ideas though and I have a little book called the pocket parent, not always the best at quick fixes but it will make you smile instead of gettig more and more stressed and it tries to describe the world form the child's point of view - I find it quite a helpful read.

HellKat · 02/05/2006 15:19

Poor you Liquid! I think I had it (or something similar) with & after ds1 was born. My stomach drove me crazy with itching, then spread to my thighs. At it's worst I actually made myself bleed. The only thing that eased that horrendous itching was hydrocorizone cream from the dr's. Did'nt get it with ds2 but this time around I've got a weird itchy rash only on my hands? Very odd!

mabel1973 · 02/05/2006 17:52

Cori – chin up; someone definitely has to do it. I think if DS ever tried to get into bed with us DH & I would look at him like he was crazy. Grin

So how is it you speak Spanish? Mine of was necessity – living in Texas with so many Hispanics – but learned in Spain. Now doubly glad; can understand MIL’s cute “Spanglish.”

DH this morning sadly told me last week took him 3-4 days to relax, yesterday only hours to re-stress. Sad I love this area, but super-stressful job for him. Suppose that’s why it’s temporary.

I confronted the chin-up bar for the first time in 2 weeks today; I swear every time it’s been like another kg tied around my ankles. Hard to keep up any kind of shape when pg.

Homemama, your MIL would get me defensive, too. We’re not having a third. (I’m also as close with MIL as Mom. They’re so different …)

Mabel – Congrats! But – couldn’t she tell?

DS accepted into Montessori; we’re deciding tonight.

Is Montessori big in the UK?

liquidclocks · 02/05/2006 22:04

Sorry to hear you had it too Hellkat, sounds similar to what I had. I had it badly on my hands and bump at first then it spread everywhere but my face - small mercies! I found the hydrocortizone works too but the doc says it thins your skin so not to use too often - I saved it up for night time so I could get some sleep.

I had rash on hands at start of this pregnancy and couldn't figure out what it was at first - eventually found it was hand soap I've been using for years with no problem. Pregnancy does funny things to you! Hope you can figure yours out and it doesn't spread any further.

For now have found a soap developed by american lady, going to try that - and probably everything else going - will post if something works :)

HellKat · 03/05/2006 05:45

Morning all.
Liquid- I read up on it when I had that itchy rash with ds1 and the weird thing is it never goes to your face. Odd huh? Luckily mine are'nt itchy on my hands but if I push them they feel like pins & needles. Most bizarre. Re: Hydrocortizone. I know!! It's a bugger it thins the skin because it's amazing. Have you tried Sudocrem (for babies bums)? That's dealt with large itchy patches of psoriasis for me and worked well.
Congrats to Mabel & Cori!!!!!!!! Grin
Marls- Montessori schools are getting bigger over here. How can you be doing exercises while pg? Good god girl where do you get the energy? Wink I've been pretty lazy but still walking on average about 3 miles a week (great thing about not having a car).

Well today's the day!!! 1.30 today we find out what flavour it is. I'm not really bothered tbh just more anxious to know she/he is ok and everything's growing as it should etc.
Have a great day all, will post when we're back Grin

calvemjoe · 03/05/2006 09:23

Congrats Mable and Cori on the healthy scans.

Good luck with yours today hellkat x

Bella23 · 03/05/2006 10:54

OOH OOH ......more great scans, congrats everyone.
Still 18 more days to go until ours.......Envy

Marls - are you in the gym? Hells Bells woman......you must deserve some kind of medal! I swear if you put me in a gym I would burst into tears. I can just about manage to move my arm up whilst holding a chocolate bar to my mouth!!Grin My hat goes off to you

Well not a lot else to report here, looking forward to the mini heat wave tomorrow so planning to "work from home" (which is code for sit in the garden for some of it)

mabel1973 · 03/05/2006 10:55

Hi everyone.
It's started to sink in now that I'm having another boy! my uncle said last night that they will be the 'new mitchell bruvvers' GULP!
Lets just say DS can be a ittle boisterous at times....!

Hk - Good luck today - let us know won't you! I had an itchy rash around my ring finger just after i had DS and had to remove my rings - I never saw a doctor, but maybe that's what it was - it lasted for months. I did find Sudocrem helped and also Burts Bees hand rescue cream in purple tube is amazing.
Had to cut DS's hair ths monring, while he was trapped in his high chair apparantly my SIL had said it looked like a birds nest at the weekend (she has a lovely way with words), so have had to get those curls under control - bless him. I think he's got beautiful hair!

homemama · 03/05/2006 12:22

Congratulations Mabel and Cori, glad everything is well.
Good luck with yours today, HK. Smile

Very Envy at your energy, Marls! I haven't been to the gym since Jan Blush. However, we do go out for a walk every day which is helping to keep me fit. DS is at that age were he wants to go out constantly. He stands and bangs on the door and brings me his shoes. Bless!!! DH says he's like a puppy! Grin

compo · 03/05/2006 12:24

Good luck Hellkat - can't wait to hear your news Smile Sorry to hear about the itching people are getting. Our scan is Monday!! Can't wait. I think it will be a boy and we'll be the Mitchell brothers too Grin but dh is convinced it's a girl so we'll see!! As for exercise - about a 20 minute walk 3 times a week and even that knackers me out!! So unfit!
