Hi, if anyone is interested there is a great website for nearly new and some new bargain maternity clothes. I have bought a couple of dresses and they were great and quite cheap - www.mothers2b.co.uk.

It's difficult when going to the office or going out and trying to find clothes that are not tent like! Also I still need to feel attractive as opposed to whale like with bum fast heading south!
We have a wedding to go next month and I am trying to find a hire site for a nice outfit. Used a company called Bumpsadaisy many years ago but can't seem to find them now. Will let you know if I find anything interesting as seems pointless splashing out on an expensive outfit that will be redundant after one wear!

blimey Mabel and Hellkat - hope you both feel better soon. Although no hoovering etc sounds okay HK!!
20 weeks today - woo hoo!!!

Hey ladies,
Feeling dreadful here- somehow I have managed to get a throat, ear and chest infection and feeling awful! The past two nights I have had no sleep and tonight supposed to be out for a good friends thirtieth birthday... doubtful i'll go as I feel like death warmed up.
Why is it with this pregnancy seem to be ill all the time??? Last pregnancy I felt blooming nearly all the way through, this time feel like someone has clobbered me over the head with a hammer...

calvemjoe · 29/04/2006 17:03

Hi everyone, hope you are all well. Have been dealing with the toddler from hell all week and haven't managed to get online. Have discovered he doesn't mix too well with e numbers so have had a massive diet change and there is a light at the end of the tunnel Grin

Have managed to catch up with all the posts, so this is going to be a long one.

Cori, my ds went through the same problems with bedtime a few months ago, sobbing 'mummy daddies bed' for 2 hours after we'd put him to bed. Did pretty much the same as you and also brought a book called 'I don't want to sleep alone' to read to him at bedtime to try and help him understand the situation. That seemed to help him get more settled and he's much better now.

Pia, What day are you going to the babyshow? I'm going to the babyshow on the saturday. I went just after ds was born and wouldn't miss it for the world - all those freebies!

Bella, Happy belated Birthday! My bump has all of a sudden got a lot bigger too and people have started noticing.

Home, we're getting a phil and teds aswell. Just love the fact you can swap and change depending on how many children you are taking out with you.

Compo, other than vile gaviscon (that made me sick so I didn't see the point)I found that propping myself up in bed helped with acid reflux. It's started already for me too this time round so i feel for you.

Hellkat, I'm glad you found the physio helpfull and I hope the exercises make the pain more bearable.

Mable, hope you're feeling better!

calvemjoe · 29/04/2006 17:06

God, can't believe I forgot stuff Blush

Congrats to all of the healthy scans and to people who have discovered who they are growing.
Also, congrats to everyone who's made it to 20 weeks.

Hope you're feeling better soon Pol x

benjaminsmum · 29/04/2006 21:31

Hi
Congrats to all those with healthy scans, a lot of us know what we are having in RL I don't know many people who have found out. Feeling a bit paniky today as to how I will cope with two as number one ds is being a bit of a handful to say the least. Two people when out today told me he was a 'naughty rascal' and a 'mischievous handful'. I didn't think he was too bad considering he is only two and three months but I think he looks at least three which causes some problems. Most of the time he is fine but every now and then he gets a bee in his bonnet about something like pushing a child or throwing a toy and nothing will stop him. Time out dosn't work as he has told me he will do something and then go in time out so he has calculated that it is worth doing. Threatening and then taking away toys works well at home but when out that isn't possible so a bit stuck. Any bright ideas welcome. Sorry to rant on this page but you all seem experienced at this. And too top it off when I got home the cat had thrown up all over bed so complete wash required as well as overtired ds to get to bed as dh away for next five days. AHHHHHH.

On the pregnancy front I am also suffering with heartburn as I did last time. The dr prescribed Gavisgon as it is the only one they recommend when pg. It is also very expensive if you go through the amount I do and as a pg person you get free prescriptions.

mabel1973 · 30/04/2006 13:05

HI all,
feeling much better thanks.
DH has it now though. He was supposed to be in London yesterday photographing the Carling 24 gig, but couldn't stop throwing up, s came home and threw up 10 times on the train from finsbury park to newark - nice!
HK - sorry to hear you have it - it is really nasty!
Interesting to read about what your physio was saying to you about giving birth lying down...I did that last time- although I didn't feel capable of doing anything else at the time. I am hoping to use the pool this time.
Pol - Sorry to hear you are poorly too - I can totally relate to what you are saying though - I have been ill with one thing and another (mostly non pg related) all the way through so far- not much fun!
Picked up my double buggy today - v. pleased with it - it it lighter than my single one I had for DS when he was born!!

calvemjoe · 30/04/2006 14:10

Hey, hope everyone is ok.

Hellkat, Devil toddler is getting wings every so often now so I think he's begining to understand that mummy's tough and she doesn't give in! Hope you feel better soon.

Benjaminsmum, I don't have any advice that works for coping with them in public, but if you get any good ones let me know, I could sure use the advice!

Marls001 · 01/05/2006 04:04

Just back from Houston/London!
Time to catch up – this will be a long one!

What’s a potato ricer, everyone? Admittedly the slow-cooker is my friend; not too adventurous here.

Belated welcome & congrats to ShaysMummy, and welcome Pia!
Welcome RMW too!

Lysettes – Congrats on movements! Sleeping: have one of those long “body pillows” and that works very well for me … became addicted to it after 1st pg & have used it ever since …had to ask poor B&B owner for 4 extra pillows to duplicate body pillow while in London. Your boss sounds like a real loser. So glad your Mom is better! Smile

Smudger – Congrats on your girl!! If that’d been us would’ve loved to have been able to buy one of \link{http://www.hautebaby.com/browse.cfm/4,4555.htm\these} … little girl clothes are so much fun.

Congrats Benjaminsmum – looks like we’re in the same boat now; lots of testosterone (do you like sports?Smile) DH’s name is Alex so of course I like it Wink. We’re thinking about James … it’s what I would’ve been called had I been a boy (and my sister, and the sister after that). Not sure yet though …

Angeliz, congrats on your boy as well!

Loved London; should’ve taken more black and tan clothes to wear Grin ... Had more than my share of pints. DH was v. happy too; it was a romantic trip for us. GREAT time. Such nice people (though of course I wasn't surprised! Wink) Fell in love with the Bugaboo strollers I saw, but they’re unaffordable (nearly 500 pounds)!
Bought all kinds of cool kids’ clothes at Next – there’ll be two American boys traipsing about Arkansas with 2006 World Cup England gear on Grin.
A few people we met asked why Americans don’t go abroad more often … it’s because we only get 2 weeks’ vacation per year, usually using less than one week at a time. 9-hour flights blast two of those precious days away per trip, if overseas. Costs are prohibitive, too. Ditto for learning another language; much of it is we’re so isolated due to flight times and costs. But many are fluent in Spanish, including myself and DH, since Mexico is so close. Our media does not do a good job AT ALL of covering European and world news. We really have to actively seek it out in order to be informed. Just wanted to share that as we were surprised by the questions but can understand their being asked. We were so jealous of your short flight times and low costs to so many different countries and cultures so close by!

Bella – happy bday! Re pg travel, stairs of the Underground made me breathless but were a good pg workout … still queasy at times though; was sick during the Stonehenge/Bath tour Blush!! Everyone seemed to understand … Those are the kinds of things you may have to deal with wherever you decide; basically just being tired … a spa getaway might be perfect.

Chinese astrology was wrong in saying a girl for us!

LOVE Imogen, Cori. Ours would’ve been Tevin Isabella. I think the less surprises on “labor day” for me, the better. That’s why couldn’t dream of not knowing everything I can beforehand.

Yeah, Norms! Join the 2-boys club. (BTW, totally understand about the amnio. We would’ve seen an amnio expert 2 hours away had quad screen test results not been good & would’ve also struggled w/decision had Downs results been positive.)

Tassis – M&S has some maternity shirts you may want to try. Gap.com is definitely good. I like Target too. Found extra-long tank tops at Old Navy. That your hospital won’t tell gender is strange – what’s their reasoning? I second a private scan. Harrison is DS’ middle name (my grandfather’s name). Have to take Nexium (esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor) for reflux myself. Works very well & is safe to take; OB/GYN prescribed it for last pg too. So if Gavisgon not working, ask about it.

Compo – Have taken Paracetamol/Tylenol several times; no way do I feel guilty. It’s perfectly harmless for pg.

As for what I’ve been eating Tassis … Blush probably shouldn’t admit but HAD to have some oysters and crawfish gumbo while in Houston. And salmon roe, my favorite sushi. But all from highly reputable restaurants …

While home, found out my sister is pg too – due in December!

Happy bday Pol!

TopBanana, had that too … mine went away after about a week though; maybe yours will too? So psyched for you that you’re learning to drive. I think driving & swimming are important skills, but of course you can’t get out of them if you live on the Gulf Coast. Wink

Homemama, just FYI, OB/GYN here said two drinks/week are okay, & that nothing has been proven harmful except the obscene amount alcoholics drink … so a glass of red wine most likely wouldn’t hurt …

HellKat - Thanks for info on rest position; I’m going to try it!

Morning all.
Feeling loads better and about to tackle the cleaning.
Marls- Glad you enjoyed London!
I'm getting so excited about Wednesday's scan here Grin
Hope everyone has had a great bank holiday weekend. x

mabel1973 · 01/05/2006 12:45

Hi all!
Glad to hear you're feeling better HK. We are all ok here now, but just found out that the in-laws now have the lurgy - they had DS for me on friday while I was ill. My mum and dad seem ok so far but took DS down to see my brother and his wife yesterday - she is due in 6 weeks, so I hope she doesn't get it! It seems very contagious.
Marls - wow - that WAS a long one. Glad to hear you had such a good holiday. Love the idea of your DS's in their world cup gear!
Weather is lovely and sunny here today so been pottering around in the garden having a lovely peaceful time (til DS returns shortly!).
Scan tommmrow!!! :o

mabel1973 · 01/05/2006 12:56

P.s. - I think someone mentioned starting another thread.
Maybe we should do a 'post scan' one, when we've all been for our scans?

mandaz · 01/05/2006 15:32

Hi all

Hope everyone is well.

Am feeling a bit down at the moment. Everywhere I go I seem to see happy couples and Dad's with kids. It's such a daunting prospect, thinking about how I'm going to manage by myself and how I'm going to support the baby. Sorry to gripe, I just feel like I'm hitting brick walls at the moment!

Benjaminsmum - It always shocks me how insensitive people can be when it comes to other people's children. I would never dream of commenting about a child like that. This is my first baby but I know from being around friends children that they can have good days and bad, and you can guarantee that the bad days come at special occasions or out in town when it's busy. But that's just life. It sounds like you're doing a really good job with your DS and 2 isn't an easy age. Just don't listen to the narrow minded comments!

Hi everyone - hope you all had a nice Bank Holiday w/end. We had a lovely dinner out Sat night. Although I couldn't think what I could have for pudding. There was tiramsu and cheesecake on the menu and I asked the waitress if either had been made with raw egg but she was Italian and clearly didn't understand the question and just kept saying 'all have egg except ice cream' which was very frustrating!!

OP posts:
pol25 · 01/05/2006 19:24

Thank you for the sympathy ladies. Still feeling like poop and antibiotics don't seem to be working much at all. At least slept well, well kind of last night but I think was because I was so tired and just flopped at ten to eleven. The first nights sleep since Wednesday night! Yeah, felt like a new woman today even tho coughing likea smoker of 40+ a day and hacking up phlegm and feeling like i'm dying with my throat. Also can't hear still from on ear so impossible to hear anyone most of the time. Spent the wholeday saying sorry and asking for things to be repeated.

homemama · 01/05/2006 19:36

Hiya!
Just a quickie as we've been to DH's parent's holiday home by the seaside for the bank holiday w/e. Just back and feeling shattered.

Hope everyone had a good w/e. Glad to have you're back, Marls. Although technically you were only 30miles away from me last week and now you're about 4000! Grin

Glad you're feeling better, Mabel!
HK, you've made me feel quite glad that I was stood upbent over the bed last time. Hope the physio does some good.

Bejaminsmum and Calvemjoe, your tales are making me very nervous about having a toddler and a newborn! DS is 17mths and is just starting to exhibit toddler type behaviour such as telling me no all the time and shouting at me when he can't have what he wants. Maybe I need some reins!

Hope you feel better soon, Pol!

calvemjoe · 01/05/2006 20:56

Homemama, don't worry, he's come perfect most of the time and i wouldn't change him for the world Smile

HellKat · 02/05/2006 07:13

Morning girls!!
Good luck today anyone who has scans.
Hope everyone had a fab weekend and enjoying the gorgeous sun today!
Have a great day all xxxx

Bella23 · 02/05/2006 09:14

Morning ladies
Will have a read of all posts to have a catch up. Had lovely weekend visiting my parents and getting spoilt rotten.
Quick question, I have developed a coldy thing and my nose is really blocked. I have bought a Vicks inhaler which is working a treat - however is this ok to use?? I have done a quick web search and its not quite clear.....any thoughts?

Coriander73 · 02/05/2006 09:22

Hey all,

Hope you all had a good BH!

Scan today at 3pm...very excited...everyone keeps telling me it's girl but unless I brake my resolve..am not going to find out!!!! :o Mabel, good luck too, let us know!!!

DD bad all weekend so last night in sheer desperation told DH not to go in (I think he's very soft with her..that makes me sound like a right old dragon doesn't it?!!!)& that I'd take care of it! She woke at 2am so went in asked if she wanted some water etc etc & told her in my very firm but not too scary ( I think!) voice that it's bedtime for all of us etc etc. She didn't hysterical cry as she's been doing but just sort of whimped. This went on for an hour after which I'd been in 3 times, just reassuring her but not picking her up or anything. Anyhow, after this she slept through till 7am!!! So, fingers crossed. What I do know is that I'm bloody knackered & mnde me realise that I've only 4 months of sleeping "well" before baby no 2 is here...just when everything seemed so sorted...:o

Cal, thanks for the advice - will try & get hold of a copy of that book.

calvemjoe · 02/05/2006 09:43

Good luck to everyone with scans today.

I think a vick inhalor is fine Bella, I'm using vapour rub and the ingredients are all fine. HTH.

Bella23 · 02/05/2006 10:51

Calv - thanks for advice on the vicks as at the moment its a real life saver.

Coriander - sounds like you have sussed the night time waking............gosh have all this to come!!

Pol - bless, sorry you are feeling so under the weather, in this sunshine as well....so unfair!Sad
