It's a really dignified thing is pregnancy, I can't make it to the toilet in a morning now without dribbling!

Got a letter off my GP today to say come and see me, I want to discuss your test results .sigh. I did a urine test last week after he confirmed a UTI and I thought this just got sent off as a double checker, so gawd knows what's turned up now, didn't know he was checking for anything else..... was only saying yesterday that these crappy antibiotics seem to have done nowt, neither has drinking my own body weight in water.

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 19:46

shelly perhaps your sugar needs checking? Hope it is nothing exciting. Agree about pregnancy and dignity. Bit like birth really. I lost count of the number of people who had put their hands up me! Nice not!

Passmethecrisps · 12/09/2012 19:56

Thanks VQ. Definitely wee. I could smell it as soon as I went for a wee when I got home. Outdoor day tomorrow - no rope swings for me!

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 19:58

Good to hear that pass. Tena lady? Grin and good idea on giving the rope swings a miss.

pikz · 12/09/2012 20:17

Evening all. First nct tomorrow and letter came from work confirming my finish day...now it's all really real!

My birthing partners will be DP and my mum. I know from gynae surgery over the last few years I wanted my mum around a lot.

ShellyBobbs · 12/09/2012 20:18

VQ It could be absolutely anything with my GP. He phoned me up 5 times last week to tell me to go to the labour ward because after checking my blood pressure history, he thought it was too high (it's always low when I'm pregnant). I can't knock him though, he was the only one who believed me when I was ill during my last pregnancy (after seeing another 4 GPs) and he finally found it was my thyroid which was underactive, and listened to me this time when I went in with my bundle of paperwork telling him I wanted my meds upped and the exact blood result I wanted, he agreed instantly and tests me every 4 weeks.

Do they test for sugar routinely with the sample? If they do, that was only checked last Friday and was fine.

kissyfur · 12/09/2012 20:31

shelly I've got an under active thyroid too. Had a blood test yesterday, think I need my meds upping again. What daily dose are u on out of interest? I'm on 150mcg

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 20:35

Izzy The grobags hardly cost anything. I bought 5 off ebay, made the mistake of bidding on a few so I wouldn?t forget about them and I won them all. Paid £13 in total for the 5 including postage. Then a friend gave me two and some family gave us the other two. 2 of the 9 are blue so if bump is a girl they?ll probably get passed on. I?ve got some maternity pads, forgot to add them. How many will I need?

VQ I?ll invest in some of the Lanisoh cream then.

shelly They may have tested which bacteria/fungi is causing the infection. Depending on which you may need different antibiotics or antifungals. Maybe that?s what the GP wants? UTIs are mainly caused by E coli so they?ll just default with an antibiotic that will affect that

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 20:37

Oooh another thing... has anybody been reading any pregnancy or birth books?

I've been looking at getting this or this
Also, don't know whether to buy a hard copy or download to my phone app

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 20:40

fatima lots! You will be changing your pad at least hourly, and will possibly need more than one at a time. It is a messy business. Often they have them on the ward, but I would take a couple of packs, and have more at home if needed.

shelly good your sugar is ok. Your GP sounds pretty good too. Hope it is nothing too exciting.

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 20:58

I have two and a half packs at the moment. Should I stock up with more or send DH out when I need them?
Thought about getting some of the maternity mats for bedtime? I've read about people using an always ultra night time or tena lady with maternity pads on top??

Who knew I'd be spending so much time thinking about maternity pads? Grin

DH and I were laughing the other day at how big they are compared to my ultra thin, ultra discrete panty liners Grin

ShellyBobbs · 12/09/2012 21:05

kissy 125mcg, I got it upped as soon as I found out I was preggers from 100mcg, has been perfect since.

Fatima Probably, although he doesn't know they haven't worked yrt.

Peaky1 · 12/09/2012 21:09

Fatima I have both of those books and have enjoyed them immensely. After winding myself up while I was off sick obsessively watching OBEM these books managed to calm me down again completely and not feel like I want to be put to sleep for the birth. Also planning a home birth now Smile. Now all birthing progs are banned and I'm much happier and more calm for it! I read earlier the comments about the hairdressing couple on OBEM. That was probably the only reassuring birth experience I witnessed on there. Good on them!

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 21:13

I might treat myself and download them to the kindle app on my iphone then Smile

I've just searched maternity pads on here and i'm now regretting it after reading a few threads. How am I going to cope with all the bleeding? When i'm on my period I hate pads and use tampons. A couple of people have said they even used newborn nappies Shock

Going to have to go shopping for more pads, some huge granny knickers and lots of jogging bottoms by the sound of it Sad

kissyfur · 12/09/2012 21:14

shelly They wanted me to lower my dose at the beginning because I was a bit over medicated, but I wouldn't do it. put up by 25mcg about 2 months ago as t4 was getting low. Thyroid feels tender again now tho so I think it needs to go up again.

Maybe they want to up your dose again?

Evilwater · 12/09/2012 21:22

Donna I'm glad every thing is ok.

For lady that wanted to know about birthing partners. I'm having my DP and my mum. They can swap, when they need a break. In a few weeks time I'm going explain to them what I need from them. My mum is fantasic in chaos, my DP well, think chocolate teapot.

As for books, I've read the lazy girls guide to pregnancy. Which was very good and I loved reading it. I've also read the dads guides to pregancy so I know what he knows.

I have the car guide book to babies as it has loads of pics, and a one that is about childhood illness, again with loads of pics. So if there is a rash I can go to the GP and say look at this, it matches this and so does her sypmtons.

As for pads I bought 10 maternity pads, I also have some normal always left. I discovered the mooncup, best thing ever!

Evilwater · 12/09/2012 21:23

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 12/09/2012 22:07

Fatima I would get some more pads. I sent DH out for more last time. I showed him the pack, told him where they'd be and he came back with HUGE incontinence pads that were bigger than my daughter's nappies!!! Best to have too many than too little.

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 22:33

Hmm having to readjust my judges pants, just seen a picture on Facebook of a 10 week old being fed food! Hmm

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 12/09/2012 23:02

Ten weeks!!!??? That is scary!!

TheDetective · 12/09/2012 23:04

I've had a busy few days!

Monday was my first natal hypnotherapy session. Today we've been to a homebirth group. Ended up 'fessing up to being a midwife as I couldn't keep my opinions to myself Grin. It was very very good though and the midwife who ran it made me feel like I have really made the right decision. Just so calming and reassuring. I've no worries about lack of support now.

There was another woman who has had 2 vbac homebirths who came to talk to the group. Her first vbac was at home and was breech. This is part of my birth plan if baby is breech so felt good knowing I'm not the only crazy one :) Baby is actually breech at the moment it is finally big enough for me to palpate properly and there is a little head bobbing away under my ribs. Head was under left ribs this evening, just now he has moved under the right rib. Is lovely knowing exactly where he is lying now! And pushing his head between my fingers like a ball!

Tomorrow I am attending the maternity liason committee which is for service users and the big wigs. It is a way of being involved in local maternity services as a consumer. As a pregnant midwife, I can't think of a better reason for getting involved in changing services offered.

Also tomorrow I have the supervisor of midwives coming to my home to discuss my birth plan and home birth. Really looking forward to this as it will make it all feel real and like it is going to happen!

Also have aquanatal tomorrow evening! I'll be dead by the end of the day!!

Phew!

Shelley - GP probably wants to change your antibiotics. Like you say you don't think they have worked. Once the UTI is confirmed by lab results they will give a list of which antibiotics it will respond to and which are resistant. You may have not had the right antibiotic :)

daisychain76 · 12/09/2012 23:12
