That's good news donna Smile

With you on that dh21and apple I have stopped myself reading any threads or articles about sad things like that

applepieinthesky · 12/09/2012 16:49

I don't read any of them kissy but I seem to come across them a lot recently.

I worry about movements, one have all moved to really low down, DP felt just above my pubic mound last night and got a wallop, I can feel squirming up top but no kicks, it worries me. There is so much in the media and around about babies being still born after straight forward pregnancies. I don't think I shall rest easy until I am holding this one safe in my arms!

YellowWellies · 12/09/2012 17:10

Woo tits keep an eye on that as big kicks around your pubic bone can indicate a breech presentation. Or did it feel more like a head squirm? Am quite fascinated by the spinning babies website and have ordered their workbook. I think junior is head down and anterior but their spine seems to move from right to left so they're not settled yet by any means (but I'm only 30+2). I'm feeling lots of little finger wiggles down low and toward my back and apparently babies tend to have their hands near their faces so it's quite a good proxy for where their head is.

Am going to have a good feel and lots of kick charting next Friday morning and then see if my guess on their position compares with what we see on the growth scan. I've been charting movements for a week now and am seeing quite a bit of variation - the biggest factors affecting it seem to be how mobile I am. The movements on days when I go on a big walk at lunchtime are much much different to the days I'm a couch potato. For me it seems as though my exercising actually wakes junior up rather than rocking them to sleep. I also seem to get more of a reaction to a hot drink than to cold drinks.

I would say that my movements peaked probably 28-9 weeks and are slowing a bit now - they are more finger wiggles, bum shoves, what I think are elbow digs, and the occasional lolloping kick at the mo - whereas a fortnight ago it was like a football match in there with the amount of kicking going on.

applepieinthesky · 12/09/2012 17:13

Who is everyone having as their birth partner? Anyone other than your DP/DH?

DP will be with me despite saying he doesn't know if he can do it because he doesn't want to see me in pain Hmm He doesn't have a choice. My mum has asked if she can be there as well which I've agreed to but she says she'd understand if I don't want her in the delivery room. I think I would like her there though as DP hasn't got a clue about childbirth and I want someone with me who has been through it before.

We have also discussed my grandmother being there and perhaps alternating with my mum because I don't think they'll let more than 2 people be with me at a time will they? But she has been though it 11 times herself and been at countless other births and I think her experience would really help. Plus she is a calming influence. She has said whether she's in the delivery room or not she'll be at the hospital because she needs to meet baby as soon as possible after he's born Grin She's so excited bless her, you would think it was her first grandchild nevermind 20th great grandchild!

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/09/2012 17:13

I appreciate they want to make people aware and to count the kicks etc but it's making me obsess over it. I'm not happy til I've felt a kick in the morning.
I can't wait til my scan on mon to check over things, I just want her here so much and feel I have 10 weeks of agonising over movements.

YellowWellies · 12/09/2012 17:23

I'm having DH, would have loved my Ma but she's no longer with us Sad.

Would not even consider DH's Ma - as lovely as she is as she's a bit strait laced / Daily Mail and I'd not be able to relax with her in the room.

My twin sister offered too (but we'd have had a question of who would have looked after her youngest who would have to have come up to Orkney with her as still BFing, and whilst am sure the midwives here would have loved to cuddle her - there is always the rare chance the unit might be busy and I'll not be the only Mum in).

So DH it is - he is much more prepared after our birth class (a private one as the NHS ones are pretty shit and pitched at, err, shall we say the lowest possible audience IQ - i.e. listing side effects of meds which cause breathing problems as 'making baby a bit sleepy'.)

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 17:29

I've also noticed the increase in stories about still birth Sad Doesn't help when i've been told I have to be induced at 40 weeks as there's apparently an increased risk of still birth with IVF pregnancies.

I think I might start charting movements after looking at the spinning babies site. I think it is head down and normally to the right. Sometimes it feels like it's pushing it's head/hand in to my right hip Confused

Apple - I'm having DH but will have Dsis on stand by. I've suffered from depression previsouly and health anxiety on and off so she'll be there if i'm not coping and getting panicky. Hopefully it will just be me and DH though.

I've managed to get a bit of sorting done. I've washed a load of baby bedding and then written lots of slightly OCD lists in my new notepad.
I've written lists of what we've got and still to get and also all the jobs I want doing round the house before the baby is born.

This evening i'm going to research and write a list for my hospital bag [loser emoticon]
I'm also going to have a look at baby names, DH looked at some the other day and he's on a completely different page to me. I think it might be easier for me to give him a list and him to pick from it Grin

If I post a ridiculously long and boring list of baby things, would you mind looking it over and seeing if i've missed anything glaringly obvious please?

YellowWellies · 12/09/2012 17:33

Have just discovered something really cool. Previously I'd noticed that whenever I'd rest my hand on the bump or my bump against the table, baby would kick, but now when I tap or pat anywhere on the bump - I wait a second or two and they respond! Am in love!!!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/09/2012 17:41

Aw yw my bump responds in the same way!

Im having dh with me and that's it, limited visitors while still in hosp. Possibly my parents depending on what time/ day of the week I give birth.

MissMummy1 · 12/09/2012 17:41

Although we are attending NHS antenatal classes (mainly for the comedy factor if they're being ran by my mw...) I'm also going to do the 'birth preparation class' ran by my yoga instructor. The woman is lovely and very pro natural birth and alternative pain relief so think it will be much more up our street than an evening sat in a fife medical centre being patronised about different drugs and what to expect. Not that I'm a cynic or anything...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1471628353/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/275-4576875-7169110 This is my yoga instructor's book - whole heartedly recommend it. I had a read at my class last night and have just ordered a copy.

Re birth partners DH will DEFINITELY be there whether he likes it or not. He's the only person ballsy enough to fight my corner for me yet at the same time tell me enough's enough when I'm being a twat. As he works offshore though I would have my mum until he got there, BUT she thinks my plans for a very natural birth are hysterical (I'm famous for being a wimp) so don't know if she'll be much help in keeping me motivated to do it au naturale. I think she wrote me off as a yoghurt-knitting nut job the day I poured cooking oil into my car and told her DH and I were going to live in a caravan for 2 months as 'a self reliant experiment'. Needless to say the cooking oil car and the caravan are no longer in our lives Sad but my mum still rolls her eyes at anything slightly 'unconventional' we do...

MissMummy1 · 12/09/2012 17:44

link to book please work

Titsalinabumsquash · 12/09/2012 17:46

No deffo big kicks down below, he was breech footling at the last 2 scans, I have a scan on Friday so we'll soon see.
Kicks are getting a lot less but still lots
of wriggling.

Birth partner will be DP, his mum has offered to be there for support although not down the business end, I would do anything to have my mum there like
I did for the other 2 but she passed away 2 years ago. My sisters are always around if need be. I'll see how it goes on the day, I'm slightly concerned that DP has no idea what to expect and how he'll handle seeing me in that much pain but maybe his mums presence will calm him.

I think I just need a baby bath now and that's everything. I cannot wait for little one to be here, then DP can take part and
I might get a tiny break!

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 17:52

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 17:56

Much as I love my mum, she is the last person I would want anywhere near me at the birth. DH is very good at that sort of thing. He has still not told me what I said to the anaesthetist with a turban when I had my epidural with my first child. Smutty was an understatement. I vaguely remember something relating to 'taking it up the ar*e' but he says that was not the half of it Blush. I do not do well with drugs.

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 17:59

Thanks for the mummies-to-be who are missing their own mums. Mine is a PITA but I would be lost without her x

horseylady · 12/09/2012 18:00

I've no idea who's going to be there at the birth!!! Hopefully dh though guess he'll make his mind up after the classes!! I'm not sure about having my mum there? I don't know how I'd find her lol!! I guess if he won't she will??

I'll cross check lists tomorrow!!!

Right job 2.......didn't get to ride as it was pouring with rain, now beautiful sunshine!!!

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 18:05

fatima nipple cream. I recommend Lanisoh lanolin stuff. About £10 but worth every penny. Apply after every feed. No need to wash off.

FatimaLovesBread · 12/09/2012 18:45

VQ I had a look at it when I was in boots stocking up on the delightful maternity pads and breast pads. I didn't know if it was worth £10 though or if a cheaper one would do? If it's definitely worth it I can treat myself with the boots points i've clocked up

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 12/09/2012 18:57

Wow fatima that is one hell of a list! 9 grow bags must have set you back a bit!! I agree with valium get lansinoh nipple cream if planning on breastfeeding. It's wonderful stuff and a tube lasts ages! I don't see maternity pads on your list either??

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 18:59

I honestly feel it is worth every penny. There are cheaper ones available, but I think they are not up to the job. It could be that you have tougher nips than me, but after they have been sucked ferociously for days on end, I think they are worth giving the best there is. I use it in my first aid box too. DD2 used to suck her thumbs raw when teething, so I bought a tube thinking it might work as similar principle, after trying many things via the GP, and it healed within 24 hours. also good for burns, grazes, sore patches everywhere. How about starting a thread in feeding?

ShellyBobbs · 12/09/2012 19:16

That puts me to shame, after breastfeeding all 3 of mine I didn't use anything Blush!

ShellyBobbs · 12/09/2012 19:17

Might change my name to titanium tits...

Passmethecrisps · 12/09/2012 19:22

Hi chaps. Lots of interesting chat today.

I am feeling a bit odd. Earlier on I was feeling lightheaded and my bump went rock hard whenever I walked anywhere. Now it feels incredibly crampy sort of underneath. It is sharp and takes my breath away. Driving home it was painful using the pedals and I am sure wee was coming out. Just wee dribbles but enough to wet my pants. Maybe it's baby's position. Still in my ribs with something and resting on my right hip with something else.

Anyway. A bath and an early night will hopefully sort it.

Re the birthing partner chat I have never considered anyone but DH. It never entered my head that he wouldn't be there. Just asked him and he giggled and said "try and stop me". That's that issue resolved then.

Car seat arrived today. Nice one.

ValiumQueen · 12/09/2012 19:27

Very impressed shelly very impressed indeed!

pass keep an eye on that leakage , and give it a sniff to be sure it is wee. and also the pains. Hopefully nothing is happening, but deffo best rest, and if not right overnight then consider calling triage, and stay off work if not feeling good.
