flipflopper · 11/09/2012 19:14

they told you not to rest Rachel? That is what ive been doing since i got home from the MW! Maybe I should get up and moving then!
I feel so achy, I just want to curl up!

My sweep was painful! Made me feel a bit sick, I never had one with the other 2 dc's.

Rachel130690 · 11/09/2012 21:21

Yes flipflopper told me not to sit on sofa to bounce on ball, it's impossible to do all the time but I've done quite well. Although legs get very sore after a while. I'm planning on going for a walk in the morning. Might go for a walk now and then have an early night as I've been having crap nights sleep recently. Up 4/5 times a night going to loo or in a lot of pain.

ladygagoo · 11/09/2012 22:31

Owing to DIY (don't ask!) haven't managed to get online for two weeks, DS was born two weeks ago tomorrow on the 29th August, same day as my induction date (except I didn't need it as was already 3cm dilated!) birth went ok but had a big (1.5 litre) bleed afterwards which really wasn't much fun.

Poor DH was literally left holding the baby while I was wheeled into theatre for some emergency stitching up. All ok after a transfusion though.

DS is called Lucas and weighed 8lb7. He has been a bit of a lazy feeder and still not back to his birthweight although we are working on it. No doubt a few times tonight as well.

Congratulations to all of you who are currently snuggling newborns, sorry I haven't been able to keep track. Lots of luck to those still waiting. Can't offer much advice other than to say, however painful or frustrating it might get, you will get something amazing at the end which makes everything worthwhile xx

WinkyWinkola · 12/09/2012 06:47

Not to sit on sofa because of the position a sofa puts you in, Rachel. No knees higher than hips, reclining back etc. Upright, forward and open is supposed to be optimal position for baby at this stage.

MakeTeaNotWar · 12/09/2012 13:30

Keep the baby news coming, loving it! And good luck to all those who are imminent too. Had a rotten day yesterday and night and still feeling rough today - started with bad indigestion (which I never get) then had progressively bad stomach and back pain which sounds promising but they were sharp and gripey. In fact i felt a bit fluey with pain in by neck and shoulders too. Could barely sleep last night and turning over in bed hurt so much I cried out. Got my 38 week app this arvo so will discuss with midwife - anyone else felt so rotten?

CluelessMama · 12/09/2012 14:40

Yes MakeTea, I think a switch flipped overnight when I got to 38 weeks. Since then I have slept ok on only alternate nights, with the ones in between being pretty unbearable - Monday night I only managed two hours and felt utterly rotten. Had stomach ache like period pain, and numerous other twinges in head, back and tummy, not pleasant, and like you the indigestion seems to have ramped up too. Saw MW yesterday and all checks were fine, she thinks tummy pain is just baby wriggling down a bit further. Was reassuring to get checked out, but as I suspected, the verdict was that this is just what the last few weeks are going to be like for me! Hope your MW is able to help/reassure and that all is well.

meXem · 12/09/2012 15:02

me too maketea, I'm 38 weeks today and had a rough night last night, Baby had hiccups for half hour after I went to bed and numerous times in the night! Although thankfully the rib kicking has stopped so they are starting to feel less bruised. But I am now having problems with my back and feel as though my lower back/coccyx has turned to chalk! Also woke up this morning to find I had a soggy t shirt from leaky boobs! (sorry TMI) I wasn't aware that that could happen before baby arrived Blush

cjbk1 · 12/09/2012 17:43

to all who had sections; if u were really brave with the clexane injections from the start-well done.i wasn't clear that we all have to do it at home and thought I'd got away from it and was just making good my escape when the MW handed me my drugs and explained them but I was so desperate to leave I just said "ok" (id previously told a doctor that I cldnt do it myself and maybe a community nurse could do it Blush ) but now I'm home and have made no arrangements and don't trust dh to do it so iv done it myself! can't believe I made so much fuss Blush

ballroomblitz · 12/09/2012 18:40

Late congrats to you lady . Glad you have recovered from what sounds like a bit of scarey moment at the birth.

Had a sweep done today and ye gods - I hope this baby comes in the next week cos I don't want to go through that again! I think what made it worse was I wasn't expecting it at this stage as I'm only 39 weeks tomorrow and it was a male doctor. I will never complain about a smear again Grin . Had to come home and have a glass of wine as I felt icky and emotional after it (I know, drama queen here) . Cervix soft but closed so don't think it will work. He tried to give me a date for induction but I put the foot down and said I had already discussed before with a different doc if I didn't go vbac, I want cs - not induction. He was happy enough with that so my date will be 30th if I don't go before. Glad that I have a date to work towards now and it will be September.

How are you getting on today rachel and flipflopper ?

Rachel130690 · 12/09/2012 19:04

ballroom I've had two sweeps, the second one wasn't as bad, was still sore but I coped better. Think I was desperate at that point and knew it would be my last chance to get things kicked off.

Been walking a bit more today and been on ball all day my poor legs have lost more of my plug, quite a bit today but haven't noticed anything else :( am waiting for a call from hospital to give me a time for induction to start tomorrow, kinda nervous but excited.

I might give them a call actually as its a lot later than I thought, and don't want it put off to another day. Has many people heard or know of people who went right at last minute? I really want on midwifery led unit but I can't if I'm being induced. :(

How's everyone else doing today?

WinkyWinkola · 12/09/2012 19:10

Ballroom, I didn't think they were keen to induce once you've had a cs? Too much strain on scar? Or have you not had a cs before?

Good luck. Hope you get your vbac.

ballroomblitz · 12/09/2012 19:48

The only one I know who went at the last minute was my aunt Rachel but it was the last minute before her cs and she gave birth to my breech cousin - obviously manys a year ago when they let you go with breech. Hope tonight is the night for you. Even if you are induced it sounds like baby is really ready to be born so it might not take much? Yes I think the second sweep might not be as much of a shock to the system. I am a total wuss complaining about that when I'm hoping to push a baby out of there Grin

Yes I had a cs before winky and that's what previous doc had said - they didn't like to induce because of risk of scar rupture. Hence why I was a bit Confused when he first mentioned induction date. I get the feeling he is kind of new as that's twice I've had him and both times he's had to go outside to discuss my options with his superior. Midwife kind of rolled her eyes a bit when he left to speak to the 'powers that be' this time.

flipflopper · 12/09/2012 20:10

Im still here too, been feeling ok today, the achy pains have eased off, so I have been trying to keep active and took the dog for a walk and tried to keep upright more.

Rachel- I was induced with my first. When they did it they said I was 1cm dilated and she was born the following morning, only a few hours labour, so it might work really quick for you too.

Ballroom- I was shocked at how painful the sweep was too! I wasnt expecting it! I did feel a bit violated afterwards .

I'm really disappointed the sweep didnt work for me, I really thought I was going to start off last night. Hopefully my body is doing it's own thing and all these niggles are moving things in the right direction!

Rachel130690 · 12/09/2012 20:18

ballroom I thought through my first sweep I was gonna pass out, I went white as a ghost and barely spoke after. I just couldn't stop thinking how the hell am I meant to give birth when I couldn't cope there. flipflopper yes also to feeling violated. Was most horrible thing I've experienced so far :(

I read somewhere it can take up to 48 hours for a sweep to work, after my first I had nothing until I lost a bit of my plug that night. Hopefully things start kicking off for you two.

Rang induction unit, they said I'm on priority list for tomorrow as my baby is small and that as soon as night shift come in at 8, they will be discussing tomorrows inductions and will give me a ring. Felt a bit stupid ringing after but woman on the phone was lovely. :)

Rachel130690 · 12/09/2012 23:17

Okay so update from me :) I've to go into hospital at 6AM crazy early and can't believe I'm not asleep already. But hopefully this time tomorrow ill be a mummy. Shall keep everyone posted.

Smallgreenone · 13/09/2012 02:47

cjbk1 I HATED those injections! I didn't do the last one and I'm still here to tell the tale!
Congratulations to all the new mummy's. Rafe is 3 weeks old on Sunday and he's heavier than he was when he was born so we've been discharged by the midwives-yay! He's currently snuggling down on
my cheat post feed, I must put him back in his Moses basket but he's so wonderfully cuddlesome I can't put him down!
Good luck tomorrow Rachel, you'll be fine.
Hope everyone else gets to cuddle their bundles soon. X

WhereAreMyShoes · 13/09/2012 06:36

Argh, good luck Rachel. You must be so fed up by now!
It was my due date yesterday and still nothing.
Also, I've not had any phone calls or texts asking if anything's happening. Glad I'm not being badgered, but come on! Not even my mum!

Anyway, I've organised a bump photoshoot for Friday, which I'm kind of nervous about, so that means sod's law will kick in and she'll arrive today! [hopeful]

MadMonkeys · 13/09/2012 10:23

Hey, ladies, less of the descriptions of sweeps, I'm having one on Tues if nothing has happened before! I had DD at 38+3, so I've not experienced a sweep before... I'll be 40+1 next tues so the mw said she might as well do one and see what happens. I kind of feel overdue already, just because DD came early. I've had a few period pain aches and tightenings over the last couple of weeks, but nothing significant.

Congratulations to all of you who have already popped! Hope your little ones are behaving themselves. My 10 week old little niece is already sleeping through - 8-9 hours a night! Incredible. I never really believed such babies exist until now!

Littlecherublegs · 13/09/2012 10:53

I had a sweep yesterday at 40+1 - it was fine actually. Wasnt sure what to expect and was thinking it might hurt more than it did, but it was fine - just a bit uncomfortable and obviously not very nice but if it gets things going then it'll be well worth it!
I was bleeding a bit afterwards (which is normal) and was told it could take 48 hours to take an effect so am hoping tomorrow might be THE day though am not overly hopeful as midwife said although the cervix was softer and thinner, it was closed.
Ah well, time will tell!
Also, I have been booked in for my induction for 22nd if nothing does happen by then so at least that feels like there is a definite light at the end of the tunnel and I know for sure something will happen then if not before! Eek, makes it all seem very real!! Smile

ballroomblitz · 13/09/2012 21:13

Are they the stingy, blood-thinning injections? Didn't realise you had to do them at home yourself. I suppose I was kept in so long after my cs I didn't need to do them after I was discharged.

Hope it all went well for you today rachel .

I didn't bleed or anything after my sweep - had some fluid type stuff that had a slight pink tinge this morning but it didn't progress to anything. No tightenings. Nothing :( Every now and again have a vague achey, cold feeling in my back but actually feels like the start of a kidney infection which I'll need to keep an eye on as I would be prone to them.

Madmonkeys my friend's lo was sleeping through some nights at a couple of weeks old which I thought was unbelievable. Ff baby. My other friend had a baby one week ago and she is only getting up once a night!! How come mine was never like that? He screamed night and day with colic until he was three months old when it suddenly stopped like magic overnight.

twizzlestix · 13/09/2012 21:50

Not posted for a while but baby twizzlestix was born on 10/09/12 at 41+ 2 weighing a little 6lb 10oz

She was born via emergency c-section. It all escalated so fast it had to be done under a general anthestic so neither Mr Twizzle nor I saw our gorgeous girl born but at least she was alive! The birth sounds hideous but truly despite it all, it was fine because she is beautiful and here!

She had wrapped the cord not only around her neck but her arm and shoulder too!!! After a 12hr 'latent' labour (turns out my tricky girl was back to back!)and another 14hrs in 'real' labour at the hospital, we got to 8cm and waters broke to show thick meconium. Her heartrate was so worrying they wanted her out in 25mins hence the GA! My poor DH suffered more than I at that point as I was off my face with pain and gas and air whereas he knew what was going on. He also had to wait outside during the procedure worrying about me and baby :(

She has spent days since birth in special care but is doing very well.

Smallgreenone · 14/09/2012 01:07

Congratulations twizzle what a trauma you have had, glad you and your little girl are ok though. Hope you recover well and get her home soon xxx

cjbk1 · 14/09/2012 09:13

ballroom yes they are and I cldnt have stayed in that ward one more night.....
twizzle what time was she born? mine was born at 11;48(not 50 according to notes) on Monday

funchum8am · 14/09/2012 12:10

Congratulations twizzle both on the arrival of your little girl and on sounding so magnificently positive about such a difficult experience!

Macaroons · 14/09/2012 12:56

Congrats twizzle and glad both yourself and your little girl are fine in the end! Must have been scary at the time!!
