Great news about the level 2 EW, I suppose shuffling about with a long-suffering look on your face doesn't have any effect on the lazy so-and-sos?

OP posts:
TheDetective · 07/05/2012 21:31

I'm okay at work Nebbo done my first 5 days, day off today, then day in, day off, day in.... you get the picture!!! 2 days off in a row is not to be seen in the next 4 weeks!

I'm really feeling better now I'm in the 2nd trimester! 14+2, and a definite improvement all round. I'm cleaning like a woman possessed, and cooking. Today we looked after DP's nephew (age 4) all day, and we did soft play, films, and both DS's nephew and DS helped clean his room. We washed all the teddies, and had an unexpected find. Well, unexpected for me, but apparently not to DS as he proudly informed me that some of his baby clothes were on the top shelf of his wardrobe!!! His wardrobe is really tall, and I didn't think there was anything on that shelf! Shows what I know! I was crying when we got them down. Only a couple of things, but the ones that meant a lot to me if you know what I mean. One was his very first baby grow!

Not allowed to do any more baby shopping this month. Checked the bank balance, and its looking rather deflated! Its been crap - we get paid on the wednesday before the last thursday of the month! So last month and this month have been 5 week months! Never had 2 in a row before, and its a nightmare! We managed to save some money last month, and buy some baby bits, but this month is gonna be touch and go! Doesn't help that DP's wages are £250 less this month as he has had no overtime for 5 weeks, which is unheard of. Til now.

I did bid on a play mat on eBay. Before I realised we needed to be more careful! Oh well, it wasn't expensive! And I want it Grin

Good job I don't need any mat. clothes still, because mine would be bin bags possibly!

Oh, another craving to add to the list - cucumber slices soaked in vinegar Grin I really love stuff with acid/spice/bitter/sour flavours. So much so, I have 2 massive ulcers on my tongue, and they hurt like buggery!! But it doesn't stop me - oh no!

ItalaItala · 07/05/2012 21:44

Evening All

Hope you have all had a good bank holiday weekend (if you are in the uk and not been at work!)

We went camping in the lake district - at 30wks (take note Valium) and the weatherman was wrong wrong wrong Grin instead of the horrid rain we had three days of glorious sunshine. DH had a good time, DD1 had a FANTASTIC time, I got food poisoning on sat night (dodgy bbq) and DD2 cut a tooth so was clingy and miserable on sun/mon but generally glad we went.

PG brain has meant that I have forgotten everything that has been said so will try and post less of a me post tomorrow.

Evilwater · 07/05/2012 21:44

Thanks stunt nun.
As for the long suffering look, only the patients pick up on that.
Sometimes it's very funny how all the bells go, when I'm on break.
Right off to bed for another shift. I'm glad your feeling better detecive

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/05/2012 07:20

I'm feeling better but now dh is ill. Just hope it's not ds next :(

I've woken up with a sharp pain down my left, hoping its just wind/ needing the toilet. Only 3 days til my scan hang in there baby!

misslaughalot · 08/05/2012 08:11

Morning everyone!

DH glad you are feeling better, but it didn't sound like a fun bank holiday weekend in the Housewife household! Things will definitely be looking up for you this week!

So, woo hoo, I'm 12 weeks today! Can someone please calm me right down about my scan on Friday?!! I've had no bleeding, and no cramping, so deep down I know things are likely to go well. |I guess it's because some of my symptoms haven't been very strong, I haven't had too much ms, but I know everyone is different. I guess it's just going through all of this for the first time, I don't know what to expect. And the only scans I've ever had were when I mc last year, so that's my only experience of it.

Sorry for rambling, 3 days to go...

ValiumQueen · 08/05/2012 09:05

The stats for finding out the baby has died at 12 week scan is 2 percent( with no bleeding, cramps etc). It is therefore highly likely that your baby is fine x

nebbo · 08/05/2012 09:11

What a day and it's not even 9. The windscreen wipers on the car have stopped working which is only a problem when it rains and them it is a massive problem!! I've had to abandon my car this morning and get a bus (not since school I'm embarrassed to say!) but they haven't changed much. Playing the pregnant card to get a seat!!! Am letting work down AGAIN with circumstances out of my control! I've never been this lame. Oh well 14 +4 today so only about 21 weeks to go!!! I waited much longer for my wedding!!

misslaughalot · 08/05/2012 09:20

Thanks Valium, it's just taking over my brain a bit. It's difficult being at the end of this thread date-wise too, as almost everyone else is now talking about gender scans and buggies! I don't want to wish my pregnancy away, but I can't wait until I know everything is ok.

OK, rational head is now on...

Chunkychicken · 08/05/2012 09:47

misslaughalot I totally get where you are coming from - I was 12wks yesterday & my scan isn't until next Wed, so I am literally at the end of the thread... I also worry that I'm been over-optimistic & looking into double buggies already etc when I actually don't know what's going on in there. I mean, I look pregnant but daren't admit it 'publicly' just in case!!!

Things are getting more confusing with the unsolicited tax credits money; the deposits are in both my and DH's names, so they're not clerical errors clearly. It's a worry, as our joint a/c is joined with our savings a/c so all our house moving money/part of the deposit is in there. We are absolutely totally screwed if anyone is tampering with our a/c. Just the extra stress you need when you're a house buying, working, pregnant toddler's mummy!!! Hmm

jenbird · 08/05/2012 10:45

It's only 11 o clock and I am knackered already. Has been a busy morning but would quite like to be not quite so lame.
My scan is on Friday too. Just can't wait to get there and finally reveal that I am not just a fat porker!

ShellyBobbs · 08/05/2012 13:24

Chunky If you do internet banking why not just open another savings account and stick your money in there until you need it, they won't have the details of that account so can't touch it.

Itala Lovely to hear from you, in the final 10 weeks now, are you excited?

It's feeling very heavy around my lady bits now, I didn't realise that feeling started quite so early but I noticed last night that my stomach has had quite a bit of growth in the last day.

Craving of the last few days has been Wenslydale cheese butties with either pickle or coleslaw on brown muffins, yummy. That is apart from the lemon curd on white sliced toast too :)

Have been in Mothercare today, it is very dull and boring in there, just like Mama's and Papa's, everything in these baby shops is all the same, I want something exciting and inspirational to look at. What's wrong with me?

Anyway, I'm off to make another giant cheese butty [grin}

ShellyBobbs · 08/05/2012 13:25

Well, that grin went wrong!

NervousAt20 · 08/05/2012 15:59

Good luck to any ladies with scans :) fingers crossed for lots of good news
Hope everyone enjoyed their bank hols even though it was horrable rain yday!

Just wondering if anyone knows much about bump bands? Are they any good ect... I'm going away for a few days at the end of the month and im on the porky side now so thinking a few more weeks might be worse lol and don't really want to buy anything yet so they sound ideal for a couple of pairs of shorts and stuff

kirrinIsland · 08/05/2012 16:10

nervous I've got a bump band and I've found it to be pretty good - I do the hair bobble trick and then but that over it and it looks fine.

NervousAt20 · 08/05/2012 16:14

Thanks kirrin where did you get yours from? If you don't mind me asking, would rather get ones that other people has found good as knowing my luck I'd find the ones that aren't

TheDetective · 08/05/2012 17:20

Itala Hi!!! Hows things going?! Have you got your head around it all yet?! 10 weeks to go?! The rest of us can only dream of getting that far on!

Misslaughalot Don't worry, I was talking gender scans and buggies before I was 4 weeks, not just when I hit 12 lol! Its a great feeling once the scan is done, and its all 'official' and you get to talk about it! But enjoy your little secret for the last few days! All anyone asks me is about my vomiting and my bowels these days Hmm

I feel fantastic today. I have oodles and oodles of energy - more than usual! So if anyone would like some spare energy, here! Have a little!!

I've been running round like a blue arsed fly the last few days, so now the house is looking clean and tidy. DP tried his best, but, well... he's just not me Grin I have high standards!!! Too high Even took all the vertical blinds down and washed them by hand and scrubbed them. And I've been in work. And making meals from scratch. Just what is going on! I think this baby is making me change without even realising it!

A jar of spag bol sauce was good enough for me before, so why now, will only cooking it from scratch do? Well baby? Why?! And what is all the fruit about??

Off to see American Pie tonight with DP, and can't wait! A night out just the two of us... not had one of those in a long time!

Hope everyone else is feeling good!

Ooooh, one last thing (sorry, me me me) got my letter back with my NT results, and downs risk is 1:100,000. I don't think I have ever seen one so low. Was quite surprised really! I panicked when I first opened it as I didn't realise they would be in contact unless it was a problem. D'oh!

Cacacaz · 08/05/2012 19:39

Detective I will take some of that spare energy, I've been feeling exhausted for the past week! So much for feeling less tired on the second trimester.

I arrived home to a letter about my nuchal results, it doesn't give any statistics (must be different in Scotland) bit it says the risk of Downs is low Grin

I have been asked when I would like to start my maternity leave, I'm not really sure what is realistic. Do any of you have any advice?

blonderthanred · 08/05/2012 20:10

Re. Maternity leave, I'm planning to save up my annual leave so I can use it in the run-up to the birth, so ideally 3 weeks before my EDD. Then mat leave will start on my due date, running for 6 months.

applepieinthesky · 08/05/2012 20:31

Yeh I'm also saving some annual leave blonder but I've only got 2 weeks left because I've got a week in Devon next week, some time off for the Olympics and a week off in September. Still handy though because it's two weeks full pay.

My mum was saying today 'so are you going to finish at about 29 weeks?' I was like 'what?! I don't think so'. Most people I know work up until a few weeks before, a couple of women I know worked right up until the due date. The more time you take off before the birth the less you have with baby before you have to go back to work. That's if I go back to work though, I'd love to not go back at all but need to sit down and work out finances.

Is anyone planning on being a sahm or are you all planning to go back to work?

WaitingForMe · 08/05/2012 20:39

Hi ladies. Had my 12 week scan today and was told I'm 12+5 not 12+1. I'm not really sure how that's possible as DH was really ill in February and we weren't having sex when we'd have had to have been. Anyway, new EDD of 15th Nov.

It was amazing. So much change in 2 1/2 weeks! It has proper hands and big kicking legs. Gestational sac now tiny and not much amniotic fluid (to our eyes) which explains the discomfort I've been feeling - I'm being beaten up from the inside!

I needed a good experience as I still feel rough. I threw up three times yesterday and am shattered all the time. Still, today was the first sunny day in weeks and I got to sit in the garden.

Chunkychicken · 08/05/2012 20:41

Good test news ladies :)

I would def not plan to work later than 3-4wks before the due date, although my mat leave is easy being a teacher & having a convenient due date! Last time I finished at the Easter hols so it was meant to be 3.5wks before she was born & she came half a week early. I needed the 3wks to get things sorted out, have some me time & so on. This time, I have a feeling DD will make it a bit harder to relax, but should be able to finish at roughly 36wks but only start proper mat leave at 38.

The tax credits thing just gets weirder & weirder. HMRC found the payment, said it was official, but based on an application I submitted a few months after DD was born Confused. Essentially we're due something but cos it took so long, & we hadn't re-applied/updated our earnings info since then (cos I hadn't heard anything from them, I assumed it wasn't a goer iyswim), the system panicked & paid us what we'd be due if we weren't earning & a bit of back-pay. So its good & bad. We've got to pay it back, but potentially not all of it, and we've got to provide P60s/payslips for them to work it out. Thank god its just a utter shite system & not something criminal requiring us to change all our banking!!!!

Chunkychicken · 08/05/2012 20:48

Good stuff Waiting.

And no, applepie unfortunately, the finances are not such that we can rely on DH's income so I have to work (I was main earner before DD) but at least I am able to afford part-time rather than full time. It does mean we can afford to move to the nicer area, with the bigger house & garden and good school though, so its swings & roundabouts I guess. Also, as both DH & I are public sector, if we lived elsewhere (i.e. not SE or London) I suspect we could afford for me to be a sahm and still afford a nice house, but again, would depend on the area I suppose. It's very handy to have my parents & in-laws literally on the doorstep, so not all bad Wink

Tiago · 08/05/2012 20:50

I'm planning to work up to the start of October, so about 5 weeks before due date. I'll use 2 weeks holiday though, should really ML will start 3 weeks before I am due.

Apple I am going back to work in order to qualify for the enhanced maternity my firm offers (you have to go back for 6 months or pay it back). Then we shall see...

blonderthanred · 08/05/2012 20:56

I'll be going back to work. My employer has no additional maternity provision so just statutory for me. They've just agreed to pay a bonus to anyone returning to work (payable after 3 months back) but I don't know if this only applies if you return full-time.

My boss has just gone on maternity leave for a year so we may well be returning to work at the same time. She's made some noises about us possibly making some kind of joint arrangement when we return so we'll see.
