Loving the carrier chat by the way. My DH really wants a carrier and we're not sure which one to get. I won't be using it all, because of my back problems I'm just going to stick to the pushchair. So would you all recommend the Ergo as the best option then? May I ask why?

Biscuitsandtea · 13/05/2012 15:05

Thank you dot all the sling knowledge. Smegs - I've only found out today then that BBs aren't recommended! News to me! Mind you we never used it when DS was very little. I think we only used it once facing inwards and DS must have been 2'3/4 mths before we started using it with him facing outwardly.

Is it still frowned upon at that sort of age?

I'm really looking forward to this sling meer to suss out the different sorts. Intrigued to see a ring sling. Mei Tei and Ergo.

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 15:10

I found the ergo brilliant from about 4-6 months, although it can be used from birth if you get the infant insert. It's a structured but soft carrier, and the weight of the baby is on your hips not your back like the baby bjorn. We still carry DD in it now, it was absolutely essential for climbing up waterfalls in New Zealand!

i think there are some others very like it (Mai Tai?), but ergo was the one that DH and I found the most comfortable.

The only drawback in my opinion is the cost - it is very expensive, and even buying it second hand on ebay is no guarantee that you'll get it cheaper.

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 15:11

PS I've started a thread in S&B about maternity bras, if anyone has any advice for me? You can't miss it, it's the one about attractive non single-boobage maternity bras!

GrumpiiiMunkiii · 13/05/2012 15:23

Afternoon, it's me Munx.

Sorry for radio silence

Firstly congrats Myth she is a wee cracker!

Reading with interest all the sling advice. Am hoping to use one myself for DC2 so all input gratefully received.

Hope Jen, Musical and Wants are doing OK?

Many congrats on the scan Smegs will pop over to your bra thread in a bit.

Have no doubt forgotten loads, sorry sorry.

My sacroiliac pain getting worse and worse and I had a BH last night which totally freaked me out. But after reading and asking other people I know they are perfectly normal in the 2nd tri. I never had them with dd...........

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 15:44

Thanks Grumpiii!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/05/2012 15:55

Myth, congratulations, she's beautiful! Lovely name, too. Thanks

Hope Musical is no longer in latent labour but in actual real labour!

jenfraggle · 13/05/2012 16:01

Glad that you feel happy to join us now Smegs

Nothing to report here. Went to Newquay for a KFC and to do the groceries today. Saw a bloke walking down the street eating Subway who appeared to be very up his own backside get it taken out his hand by a seagull. Will the tourists never learn? Never walk along waving food around as that is an invitation.

Really hungry today, ended up having some of DH's chips as I finished mine and was still hungry. Bought a bag of Bitsa Wispa in Sainsburys, I've already finished them and am still hungry. DH is currently making some bread and scones, I'll probably start on those when they come out the oven :o

Wants3 · 13/05/2012 17:13

Jen it sounds like you are building up your reserves for the imminent birth:)I am wanting cake but none in the house!
DH has got it in his head that he won't be going to work tomorrow, hope he is not too disappointed when the alarm goes off at 5.30am!
We had a lovely sunny walk and a game of scrabble this afternoon and are off out to church tonight.

jenfraggle · 13/05/2012 18:16

It's your turn before me Wants

musicalmrs · 13/05/2012 19:02

Myth, she's absolutely gorgeous - congratulations again!

Still nothing here. Lots of BHs but they've become less painful again. Have done a lot of walking and bouncing alongside RLT and pineapple, and now determined to have a relaxing ish evening. Having the in laws here made me forget about it for a while which was nice - didn't realise that DH's sister was quite late, so my MIL was very sympathetic - plus despite my lack of sleep last night I didn't feel totally rubbish!

Busying myself by planning my lovely shiny new kitchen!

Jen, I've found I've been a lot more hungry in the last couple of weeks. I reckon Wants is right - stockpiling some extra calories to see us through labour? :)

GrumpiiiMunkiii · 13/05/2012 19:29

I ate like an absolute horse the two days before I went into labour, so hopefully this is a very good sign.

Hope things get moving for you soon!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 13/05/2012 19:49

I had uber munchies in week 37, and it turned out to be a big growth spurt for DD! I'm convinced it was the final stage of her development. Go Jen! You're so close!

Can't wait for Musical and Wants to get into fully fledged sneeze mode as well!

hawthers · 13/05/2012 20:05

Adding to the sling chat I got an ergo which was v useful for when DS2 wouldn't settle and yet I needed to make DS1's tea. The infant insert was great and if hr dropped off in it you could put him down inside the insert and he'd stay asleep. I got mine for half price from some random website will see if I can dig out the name.

DreamingOfPeace · 14/05/2012 08:36

Hooray smegs, we love a good scan
And the SI pain is terrible munkiii, grump away!

farfallarocks · 14/05/2012 08:47

Yay for a good scan smegs :)

We have lots of BFPs on the conception thread so hopefully we have a new population as you all start to pop.

No news here other than i am starting to show :) :) :)

musicalmrs · 14/05/2012 09:10

Hurrah for starting to show Far, that's great- sooo exciting :)

Munkii, sorry you're in so much pain :( Have you been to see anyone about it?

Still more of the same here, and nothing definite. Trying to think of long projects to start - writing a symphony? 2000 piece puzzle? A friend of mine suggested wearing some nice knickers and letting sod's law get to work, but sadly I no longer fit into any of my 'nice' ones!

Hope Wants and Jen are having more success than me!

whimsicalname · 14/05/2012 12:56

Hello. I live on the brooking thread, but after a cp in march, April seems to have been a go-er.

I'm not quite ready to make the move yet, seems a bit like jinxing things, but I thought if any of the babies were working on a 'one in one out' policy, it might help to have a fresh face about. So come on babies, move along, you need to make room for some new bumps over here!

I also thought I would offer a sling contribution, as at some point, I've had quite a few different ones. I would say the best ones for young babies are ring slings. I made mine, and they really are very easy to make (it's just sewing in a few straight lines) and then you can choose your own fabric instead of the default ones they come with. Once they're a bit bigger, I second the Ergo, although it takes a while to be confident to put one on on your own.

GrumpiiiMunkiii · 14/05/2012 16:02

Welcome Whims! hurrah!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, I have become resigned to the pain but am hopeful about the physio appointment this week. I ended up phoning the MW on SUnday as the BH and soreness was quite frightening, but al OK now. Feeling a little movement but good old anterior placenta making everything worrisome.

Hoping for news from Wants, Jen and Musical soon.

And hurrah for showing Far that is so exciting and means more shopping!!

ScrambledSmegs · 14/05/2012 16:40

Afternoon! What a grim day after a lovely one yesterday.

Hi whims! Do stick around, I wish I'd joined earlier but I was too scared to.

Glad you're going to get seen to Munx, sounds very painful. Anterior placentas are the pits aren't they Sad - although by 30 weeks I couldn't miss DD moving as she was practically punching her way out! I'm sure you'll be the same Smile

Wants, Jen, musical how are you all?

I'm stuck in the hospital waiting to have my combined bloods done. So bored ! Had insomnia last night, was awake from 2am so had all of 3 hours sleep. Got 2 more this afternoon but still feeling shattered. Early night tonight I think Smile

Wants3 · 14/05/2012 17:16

Well,no action here I'm afraid but I am really tired today. No chance of having a nap earlier as the digger and dumper truck were in the garden making mess and noise. Takeaway and early night I think!
I popped into work today, it was lovely to see the children ( and staff!). They were all asking why my baby was taking so long to come out.
I hope Jen and musical are doing ok?

musicalmrs · 14/05/2012 17:42

Wants, when I told some of the children I teach that I would be having the baby in May, they looked visibly relieved and said "That means you'll be back in June!". Bless Grin Sorry there's been no action on your side!

Smegs, hope your bloods are done already. Also hope you don't get the cursed pregnancy insomnia - I had it since very early on, made life a lot more difficult (esp while working).

A little bit of action here - TMI - but some jelly like potential plug! Grin. So exciting! I know it doesn't mean anything's imminent, but still, it's a start! Plus lots more BHs. We'll see whether they turn into something more...

jenfraggle · 14/05/2012 17:43

No news here either. Just had a chinese, it's probably my last one before DC gets here.

Whims lovely to see you over here.

Far nice to hear you are starting to show

BartletForAmerica · 14/05/2012 18:33

Just interloping for a second to get a message to jen. Just got off the phone to the District Commissioner for my area and am coming back to report to you that I am apparently taking on a Brownie Unit. They have a few helpers but the only one with a Warrant Card is leaving - so, em, I appear to be taking it on! Shock I am going to be a Brown Owl! Now if this doesn't bring on an ironic BFP... Grin

TheLittleFriend · 14/05/2012 19:03

Congratulations myth, your daughter is beautiful. Thanks

And congratulations mec, great to see you again. Thanks
