Biscuits, obviously being without newborn yet I can't talk of its effectiveness with a child in, but I've had no problems tying the Moby. Have you tried watching the videos? I found them very helpful :) Of course, the whole beauty of having a multitude of slings means there's one available to suit everyone...

That Liberty one worries me slightly Confused. I've heard wonderful things about ring slings from Ninja and others, and I've heard they're good for BFing too (which I imagine the Moby isn't? Or at least, not as easy!).

The sling meet sounds like an excellent idea though. I was tempted to go to one, but DH liked the look of the Moby so we went straight for it. It has been tried and tested on many a teddy bear (and almost on the cats, but they didn't play ball!) - but how effective we'll find it with a baby is another matter altogether...

Pomme, I like that idea Wink. I don't mind them coming - I like my in laws, but I'm thinking that I could be in some kind of latent labour. I really don't want to go into labour with them here (or anyone other than DH!) - and I don't want to be worrying about that! I also have lots of things I wanted to do today, walking wise etc - and will not be impressed if they just want to sit on the sofa all day!

Sorry, I'm very grumbly this morning. Happy due date to me! Still getting lots of BHs or contractions, sometimes very painful other times not... haven't started timing them again, but they did keep waking me up. Still not getting hopes up toooooo much..

Biscuitsandtea · 13/05/2012 08:17

Musical - I'm brooking that you go into proper labour before the in-laws arrive - that's solve the probs no? And we must be due a due date baby - percentage wise? So you go ahead and pop into labour, nip off to the hospital and sneeze out that baby - look forward to hearing all about your newborn snuggles Smile

Moby wrap - I can tie it, but I struggle to get it right enough once ds2 is in it, and then I struggle to adjust it. There is sooooooooooooooooooo much material ConfusedShockConfused.

Ds2 has chicken pox Sad. All over his head Sad and in his nappy area Sad. And elsewhere Sad

jaggythistle · 13/05/2012 08:18

yay mythical! sounds like excellent sneeze birth squeezing! congratulations and enjoy those snuggles. :)

musical I've gone into labour during or shortly after my MIL visiting both times, it might help. Grin i agree though, lie down sounds a good idea, you can always say a quick hello and disappear 'tired'. good luck! are they coming round for hours?

did lots of snuggles on chest last night as DS2 was just wriggling about grunting in his crib. he settled straight away and i did enjoy a cuddle. bit of a sore neck from sleeping at a funny angle though! right, number 1 has been served breakfast, number 2 had a wee feed and needs nappy done.

we've got visitors today too, could do with a sleep though!

jaggythistle · 13/05/2012 08:22

oh no biscuits poor wee DS2. :( :(

jenfraggle · 13/05/2012 08:29

Congratulations Myth!

NinjaChipmunk · 13/05/2012 08:31

biscuits I have a hugababy ring sling and will put pic of ds asleep in it on my profile when not on phone and am about to make an open tail one which I will link to when on laptop. I failed to bf but I believe its quite easy in a ring sling. I also have the toddler version of the patapum which is a soft structured buckle carrier. Baby bjorns and the. like are not really recommended as they offer no hip support for the baby but mei tais and decent sac's do. Will be on laptop shortly for better answer!
Yay myth congratulations to you!
Be back shortly x

That would definitely sort it out Biscuits! Problem is they come from an hour away. Can't understand why DH wants them to come today when hopefully they'll be here in a couple of days time! So I need to go into labour in the next hour and a half... not sure how likely that is :( Either way, I'm being very strict - if they want to come here, we will all be going out for a walk in the afternoon - even if just to the shops!

I know what you mean about the huge amounts of material. Are you bunching it up to wrap it around you, or are you folding it in half? I've had more success folding it in half - seems to make more sense in terms of fitting a baby (read: teddy bear!) in, though DH seems to make it work with bunching. I've also then just been wrapping the excess material around loads. But I'm sure it's much more complicated with a proper wriggly DC!

Poor DS2 :( At least he's getting it out of the way though I suppose. He must be finding it tough... :(

Jaggy, that's good to know Grin. Not sure how long they'll be here - a good few hours I think as they come from an hour away. I love them dearly, I just don't particularly want to see them today while exhausted and trying to relax (my SIL has a tendency to stress me out!).

Right, time to stop stressing and be an oasis of relaxation and calm.... ha!

NinjaChipmunk · 13/05/2012 09:31

oh biscuits poor ds2! Have you got some calomine cream?
Here is the link to the sling I'm going to make and there is a pic of ds asleep in the huggababy on my profile, but I guess that may not be much help to you. The huggababy has a padded shoulder and is a closed tail and they are not to easy as the open tail ones when it comes to tightening top and bottom separately although its still not exactly difficult. this link has some v good positioning tips and there is something on there re bf in a sling too. Youtube is also good for tutorials. If you look at some of the soft structured carriers on here you'll see what I mean about hip support for the baby - the bit that goes between the legs is wide enoughto stop the legs from just dangling. They also do lots of different types of sling too. Didn't dream have a moby? Maybe she can help with your tying issues if she's able to post in between feeds and changes and any sleep she might be able to grab! PM if you want any more links/ info as I have tons saved on my laptop which would probably bore everyone else on here to tears!

Brilliant - thanks Ninja that's super helpful! It's like a different world isn't it! And gorgeous pic of your DS asleep - that looks really comfy! May I ask how old he was there? Just to get an idea of what age it goes up to?

Musical - according to doctor google, because DS2 is so young, he might still get CP again when he's older SadSad

This will be irrelevant to you though because you are currently in established labour sneezing out that baby! Grin

NinjaChipmunk · 13/05/2012 10:24

He was about 2 and a half I think. About the same time he stopped using his pushchair. I would say he would use it for naps if we were out and about till he was about 3 and a half/ too heavy for me to carry! It was great for things like going to a friends house by bus. He's be happy to walk to bus stop/ be on bus/ from stop to house and play for the afternoon but too pooped to make it back so I'd stick him in there and he'd sleep for the journey home or if we went to london with the grandparents, He'd be happy to run around all day but would need a nap by mid afternoon. The patapum was great for hols in wales etc where we would walk probably further than he could comfortably do and since we have a plain black one DP was happy to have him on his back.

musical channel your oasis of calm and duck out for naps when you need to! Its your choice as the heavily pregnant person!

pommedechocolat · 13/05/2012 12:00

Beautiful!! Where's the sleep suit from - that's gorgeous too :)?

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 12:51

Oh, she's gorgeous myth Well done! Thanks

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 12:55

PS Scan was all fine yesterday. Still have to have combined blood test done tomorrow, but we've started telling close family & friends. Official now. Eek!

I guess that means you'll all be seeing a lot more of me in future! Hope you don't mind too much Wink

DreamingOfPeace · 13/05/2012 13:04

Really quick post

Hooray myth, well done you!! Beautiful little girl and a good size. She's the weight of my DT2 at 5.5 weeks :)

I'm not getting on well with my moby. I can tie it fine but can't get baby in particularly well. Really not loving it, totally impractical getting it on out and about. Not a fan! I like the soft structured carriers too. I hear good things about the manduca and love the ergo baby. I bought the Boba 3G but wish I'd gone for the ergo (that was borrowed) think there'll be no difference once they're bigger but as newborns think ergo cosier. Check out the Natural mamas website. Bit lentil weaverish but fantastic for sling advice. I'd go soft structured carrier biscuits

Wants3 · 13/05/2012 13:04

Just been chatting to my neighbour, she has made my day by saying that I am one of the neatest just about to have a baby ladies she has seen. :)
Welcome in smegs the more the merrier!
I am writing this on my knees, leaning on the edge of the sofa as I had a sudden lower back ache. It has eased off now so I try getting up! Planning a nice long dog walk after lunch as the sun is out.

Biscuitsandtea · 13/05/2012 13:11

Is an ergo a soft structures carrier Dream?

clickingtock · 13/05/2012 13:14

Your daughter is beautiful Myth, and lovely names - wholehearted congratulations on her safe arrival. You must be feeling amazing. xxx

I loved the wraps slings for diddy baby then moved on to ergo when DS got a bit more sizeable and I wanted him on my back. There's so many out there it's a little bewildering.

xxx

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 14:06

Oh, slings - ergo was the best buy for us as we used it from about 6 months and still going strong with DD (big) 2.2yo. Not too sure about from birth though - I like the look of the little cocoon thing for the ergo, but reckon I'd much rather use a soft wrap sling from birth as it's much better for breastfeeding. One of mAy local baby shops runs has a large selection of slings and helps you learn how to tie them properly, so I'll probably pop in at some point as I've got my eye on the Moby. They also run a 'real' nappy masterclass Grin and have a lady who runs breastfeeding 'troubleshooting' sessions too - ah, North London, gotta love it!

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2012 14:16

Snap tock Grin I wish I'd had a wrap sling for DD, but DH thought they looked dangerous(!) and insisted on a Baby Bjorn, which I used for all of 5 minutes as it gave me awful back pain. I only found out later that it's not considered very good for young babies as the position is bad for their hips.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 13/05/2012 14:27

Myth she's GORGEOUS! Well done again! How are you feeling today, and when will be be heading home?

Smegs congrats on a great scan! Hope the bloods go well today. You may already know this, but the earlier No Brookers determined that the correct medicinal dosage for blood tests is one chocolate egg bar per vial of blood taken!
