Newton Massive congrats!!!!!! And now we're in the second trimester you'll have the energy for it too GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

newtonupontheheath · 22/04/2012 20:53

Ha ha thanks kel

Although he is now starting to drive me mad a bit. The average registry office seats 70 and he's spent the last hour telling me about all the relatives he's invited from London (we don't have much contact with them but in his culture it's all about cousins, aunties and uncles you never see!) that won't come but he'll invite them anyway as there will be room. Im getting Angry already. Must be the hormones!!!

Sorry for the thread hi-jack, I'm obviously not telling anyone in rl until we get dates sorted

Congratulations newton, that's lovely news! Just start calling him Groomzilla if he gets too bad. Grin Let us know when you get a date, and we'll all raise a glass of fizzy grape juice to you both. DH and I had our 5 year anniversary this weekend, and looked at all the wedding photos again - no way I'd fit in my dress at the moment!

Started looking at cots and things more seriously this weekend, and now I'm completely confused. Anyone got opinions either way on cots with drop-sides or fixed?

LoopyLa · 23/04/2012 07:58

I'm in awe Thunderboltkid!!

I'm an organised person (usually) and bargain hunter but apart from nursery furniture, car seat, etc, how the heck does everyone know what to buy? Is there a magic list somewhere that tells you what newborns need?!? [clueless emoticon] Confused Confused

How do I find this stuff out? Why do I have no clue about anything baby-related & does it make me sound really stupid? Blush

Help, someone please!!

LoopyLa · 23/04/2012 08:00

And congratulations Newton, that's wonderful news Smile

babybrain3 · 23/04/2012 08:26

There are loads of lists about but most of the stuff you can buy after the baby is born-and a lot of it you don't ever need... All you need before it's born is somewhere to sleep and a push chair and a way of feeding it... And some clothes... Roughly... I keep looking at things and thinking, do I really need to have that/is the baby going to need it as soon as it is born???? Most things you can wait a few weeks to buy.. IMO anyway.... Then they will be more personal to the baby-especially if you're not finding out the sex. Ooh what a ramble, sorry!! Grin

pinpan · 23/04/2012 08:35

I know you're right about waiting, babybrain, but there's a bit of me that just wants to buy stuff! Grin

newtonupontheheath · 23/04/2012 08:50

Re baby stuff i would say bare essentials are
clothes (few newborn, couple 0-3- vests, mitts, babygros, cardigan and possible snowsuit for November)
nappies,
somewhere to sleep (Moses basket, carry cot from pram, crib)
ff stuff if ff-ing, one million breast pads of not!!
Blanket (I didn't want to put ds down on anything that wasn't clean so blanket always went down first!)
Car seat
I wouldn't say pram is essential if you're undecided over which to get. But if you can get that sorted its less hassle and also you may be able to get bundle with car seat etc.

All the matchy-matchy bedding, cot, nursery stuff is lovely but by the time baby moves into it, it will be outgrowing baby pink/blue etc anyway! We moved house and ds never slept in his nursery although my nesting had made it essential to do it at 38wks!!

Our ds got loads of money as gifts or 0-3,3-6 clothes when he was born so we we're able to go and buy boy specific clothes and enjoy little shopping trips to stock up which was fun (DP wasn't good at sitting at home during his paternity leave!)

CaptainHetty · 23/04/2012 09:37

Happy belated birthday Loopy, and congratulations newton! How exciting, I agree with looking at Tiffany Rose, they have some lovely maternity wedding stuff on their website and they're really helpful as well. Sorry I haven't caught up for a while, 2 children with the flu has been a nightmare! I have been reading all your news, though.

I haven't gone too mad with the baby stuff just yet, though if I had the funds I probably would have :o I've got a pushchair, one of these because someone I know was selling one still in the box for £70, wasn't going to turn that down! Colour is much nicer than the grey it looks in that picture, though.

I also have a stock pile of reusable nappies in various sizes and types and my sister is saving up neutral baby clothes (my niece is 11 weeks old) and if we're having a girl, we'll also have a tonne of pink clothes from her as well. She's also saving her moses basket, play gym, bouncy chair and various other bits and pieces so we won't have to buy too much really. That doesn't stop me looking at things and wanting to buy them, however :o

17 weeks today, and have midwife appointment tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait to hear Flumpy's heartbeat. 20 week scan is also creeping ever closer and now have people placing bets on the sex :o Can't believe how quick this is all going, won't be long til we have lots of news on baby girls and boys!

Hope you're all well lovelies xxx

Guccigirl79 · 23/04/2012 14:18

Yay!!!! Massive congrats Newton!!!! GrinGrinGrin So nice to hear such lovely news really happy for you both :)

After reading that all of you have started shopping,I think I may have a little bash now so not to be left out lol so I will be off to see what I can find without having to leave the house :)

RnB · 23/04/2012 14:32

Happy birthday Loopy!

Had my midwife appointment this morning, everything was fine and I heart a very healthy and happy heartbeat, yay! :)

Looking forward to my 20 week scan in 2 weeks time.

Those of you finding out the sex at your 20 week scans - shall we do a little experiment? When I was pg with dd my midwife correctly predicted the sex from the fetal heart rate at my 16 week check. According to her, as it was over 140bpm I was having a girl, and she was correct. Now this theory has been massively discredited and is considered to be an old wives tale, but I thought it might be a bit of fun to see if it works for us.

My baby's heart rate was 138 - so apparently I'm having a boy :)

Bubblebell1 · 23/04/2012 14:54

Hi girls.

Congrats Newton how lovely.

Re baby stuff I have 2 prams and a car seat, Moses basket, feeding pillow and a steriliser left over from ds2. All I will buy is a cot and an electric breast pump. I have a manual breast pump but they are as much use as tits on a fish.
I bought some bits for baby today from next. Lovely bright colours and not gender specific.

I'm hopefully going to find put the sex tomorrow! I have a private scan booked. According to the heart beat ( 158 bpm ) it's a girl. Not convinced tho. I think it's a boy :-)

LoopyLa · 23/04/2012 15:56

I have a manual breast pump but they are as much use as tits on a fish

HAHAHAHA Bubble Grin Brilliant expression!

And can't wait to hear about your scan, do share the details afterwards please Smile

Thanks everyone for your advice; I've spent a very productive morning at work creating a spreadsheet with everything I think we'll need Wink

cakes82 · 23/04/2012 16:36

My baby was awkward when I heard its heartbeat. It was exactly 140bpm so no clue either way lol

MsInterpret · 23/04/2012 18:23

Ooh that's interesting RnB - my baby's heartrate was 150bpm so seems to mean it'll definitely be a girl. But like bubblebell something makes me think it's a boy.

Time will tell!

elvislives2012 · 23/04/2012 19:52

Hi all. Been ages since I've been on. It no longer appears on my thread list! All sounds exciting with weddings and scans! Have to say I'm loving the third trimester. Sickness gone, peeing all hours gone and acne gone! Wo hoo! Hope everyone else is loving it too....

newtonupontheheath · 23/04/2012 20:11

Ooooo I'm already such a bad mother. I've no idea what baby's heart rate was Blush It'll probably be another bloody boy and my house will be overr run with men!!

Loopy I think I need to borrow your spreadsheet. I've got loads of stuff left from DS but there are things we borrowed last time (carry-able car seat, play gym, bouncy chair) that we will need to buy new. We've also lent loads of stuff out and I can't remember what it is. We'll get there eventually I suppose!

My main purchase will be a Moby wrap (have a ergo already but want a cosy wrap one) and probably a BJCM with a carry cot for DC2. We have a maclaren techno already which will do DS whith baby in wrap, and then baby when DS is big enough to walk (He's a good walker but need a double for getting places quickly as will have no car whislt on mat leave)

pinpan · 23/04/2012 20:17

My bump's heartbeat was 140-160 bpm (she measured it a couple of times) so I guess that means it should be a girl. Like everyone else, I think it's a boy though! DH thinks it's a girl, so one of us will be right. Hopefully will find out on Thursday. We're not going to tell anyone else, but maybe if you ask nicely I'll share it here...

newtonupontheheath · 23/04/2012 20:35

Will the baby's heart rate be in my notes? I never knew that! I just thought this lot had good memorys pinpan I'm too lazy to get off my ever expanding ass to check them tonight, maybe tomorrow!

elvislives2012 · 23/04/2012 20:50

Don't worry the MW listened to mine and I counted then forgot! oops.
Love the wedding chat. We got married in Vegas with Elvis singing us up and down the aisle, then the day after we found out we were pg!

babybrain3 · 24/04/2012 05:55

Eeeek just woke up from a very vivid dream where my DP was having an affair with his ex wife....now I can't get back to sleep SadSadSad

pinpan · 24/04/2012 06:33

Oh no babybrain! :(

The other night I woke up at 5 am having dreamed that DH had got engaged to his exgirlf from school, and didn't want to break the news to her that he couldn't marry her because he was in fact already married to me because it would hurt her feelings. Hmm The hormones must be producing paranoia as well as teariness and general fear and terror! I decided not to share that one with DH.

LoopyLa · 24/04/2012 07:24

elvis 3rd trimester?!! Are you sure you're due in October?! Wink

newton also love the wedding talk, it's just such a fabulous life event!! Do let us know if you want opinions on things?!! I'm afraid I can't make the 13th July though, so sorry Wink Grin

elvislives2012 · 24/04/2012 08:25
