Having my 16-actually-17-week check today at 3, so as long as she does check for the heartbeat - I'm assuming she will - I shall let you all know what rate it is. I'm convinced I'm having a boy still, though I've got no real reason for thinking so, just a feeling lol.

Agree on the manual beast pump thing, they're such a pain to use. Will be investing in an electric one, hopefully baby will eventually take a bottle at night so I don't have to do aaaall the night feeds.

What are your thoughts on cot sides?? Fixed or drop???

Hi girls.

captain good luck at your midwife appointment.

Re cots, I Used a combed with both ds. I had a cs with ds 2 and it wasn't drop sided. They were in a Moses basket while I was stiff and sore.

Got my scan tonight. So excited and nervous Grin

Bubblebell1 · 24/04/2012 12:05

Cotbed even Blush

CaptainHetty · 24/04/2012 12:54

Good luck with the scan Bubble, must be soooo exciting!

I don't have a strong preference either way regards dropped sides on cots, though my first two had a cot with dropped sides and my third had a gorgeous vintage cot from my nan (obviously I replaced the 40+ year old mattress lol) and that never had a dropped side. I can't say I considered it a major inconvenience really, but I did have them all in a moses basket until they grew out of it, anyway.

Beeblebear · 24/04/2012 13:57

Drop sides are banned here in canada, but we got one second hand. Dh is short and i'd rather him have a drop side rather than having to pluck wriggling baby up while on a step stool!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 24/04/2012 14:26

Why are they banned, beeble?

Midwife check was all good, baby's heartbeat is about 150, was lovely to hear it, very loud and strong :) Apparently I have ketones in my urine sample (about to Google it 'cos got no idea what that means) which apparently is a sign I'm not eating/drinking enough, so need to pay more attention to what I'm eating and make sure I'm getting enough... Other than that all is fine and not due back til 28 weeks :o

babybrain3 · 24/04/2012 16:24

I have been summoned back to see the midwife to have some more blood taken as for some reason they couldn't test the last lot they took-wonder if I will be able to persuade her to listen for the heartbeat..... Hopeful emoticon.... Smile appt is on Thursday.

Thunder could not get my laptop out quick enough then! Glad I've held out for anything Isabella Oliver. Off to have a nosey....thank you Smile

newtonupontheheath · 24/04/2012 19:50

Wohoo! Right, I've been holding off buying Isabella Oliver ANYTHING for a while direct, and been outbid 4 times on ebay. Well, who's laughing now?? Grin I've got two wrap tops (one black, one pink) on their way and a vest top in blue. All on the credit card of course but hey-ho! I figure they will sell for most of what I have paid and I'll get lots of wear out of them.

Bubblebell1 · 24/04/2012 19:59

Hi girls.
Had my scan and it was amazing. Really lovely to see baby again.

Apparently baby is a girl. I'm surprised and still can't believe it. The first granddaughter on both sides. Maybe they made a mistake.

newtonupontheheath · 24/04/2012 20:14

Aw Bubble Grin Congratulations!

So the theory is correct so far! Wink

Bubblebell1 · 24/04/2012 21:01

Thank you sooo much. I still can't believe it. Have next scan on 18th may. Will get them to check. X

newtonupontheheath · 25/04/2012 08:30

Why isn't my isabella Oliver order heeeeereeeee yyyeeeeeeetttttt?????

I'm taking ds to nursery for an hour today. Hoping to get him started one day a week from next week. Working from home with a toddler has become impossible! Ive booked today off so I can concentrate on him for a change rather than having to pacify him whilst I do other things. That sounds awful doesn't it, but it's such a juggling act sometimes!

Hope everyone else is well...it's hump day! Downhill to the weekend after today Grin Does anybody have any plans? We are off to ikea on sunday for photo frames and a fry up and maybe the local farmers market.

Re dropside cots (sorry in phone so can't check who was talking about them) I've read that the main "danger" with them was when they are broken and parents have tried to fix them, ending up making them more dangerous. We have a dropside though... It's done 2 of my brothers, my sister and my ds. It's 16 years old (new mattress obviously!) but it's more that its sentimental than an amazing cot. The actual dropside was useful as me and dp are both shorties and ds was such a lump when he was little and sleeping

LoopyLa · 25/04/2012 09:07

Bubble congratulations!!! What a lovely news! Smile Did you also pee on the bicarb of soda too?

Anyone else feeling a bit rubbish at the moment? Weather is getting me down, it's still so bloody cold, I'm still really tired, our house is being decorated and just a bloody mess at the moment, I got paint on my jacket, I smacked my head trying to avoid some other furniture and I really want to leave work NOW - I'm only 13+4!! Blush

Right, rant over...

A question for anyone who works full-time at the moment:- I saw our Occupational Health lady this week who suggested that I try to avoid rush hour when I arrive & leave work. That's all very well & good but what about those hours I should be working? Am I expected to "pay" them back? Or is it an upduffed lady's right to work less hour cos she's exhausted? Anyone know this? Confused

newtonupontheheath · 25/04/2012 09:42

Loopy I hate mornings like that...But just think how beautiful your house will be when it's done!

OH woman is a little bit deluded IMHO. It's all very well suggesting these things to people but there's no thought behind how it will work. I'd think you have a few options (all based on my team/where I work so not exhaustive of course!)

Reduce your hours on a temp basis to miss rush hour

Use annual leave (as you won't be there for the full year anyway due to mat leave)

Work from home to make up your hours

All of this would have to be agrees with your manager I expect, do you have any "business demands" that would stop you coming in/going home at different times, how would this impact on other in your team? Your manager will have to know all of this before they would agree I imagine.

You'd have to pay back all hours in my (public sector) organisation unless this is part of a recuperative return to work plan after long term sickness.

You could, I suppose, start early and finish late and have a lunch with some "rest time" built in. Could be done as part of your risk assessment. In my experience (from ds) I carried on as normal for as long as possible and only made changes when absolutely necessary as you never know if you are going to feel worse/better as the pregnancy progresses.

Hope that helps, must dash Smile

LoopyLa · 25/04/2012 10:23

OH woman is a little bit deluded IMHO Grin

newton My thoughts exactly!!! I work for a retailer & while my line manager has been very supportive and lovely, I wouldn't want to take the mickey!

Thanks very much for your thoughts, very relevant stuff there and I really appreciate it Smile

Guccigirl79 · 25/04/2012 10:41

Can I jump on the cot chat?? My very best friend (who I have a mum/daughter type relationship with) has very kindly let me have her drop side cot & her husband is going to completely refurb it & replace all the chrome & get us new bedding & mattress for it which is so very kind of them & has saved us some money in the process which we are both very grateful for.I was looking at a drop side cot anyway as I syuffer with my back from time to time & dont want to excaserbate it lifting tiddler in & out as he/she grows.

I am also feeling crappy Loopy lethargic, tired, achey, headachey, heartburn I could go on but am boring myself!!Grin Let's hope it's all to do with the shitty weather & we will all perk up once summer (!!) finally arrives :)
