Hello ladies! I can't wait to see how many No Brooking babies arrive during the course of this thread!! Do you realise we have now filled SEVEN threads (and that's just the graduates!) That's 7000 posts and counting!

Let's all get settled in for some serious No Brooking, we have a lot of painless sneeze births to get through over the next couple of weeks!

I don't think that sounds heartless at all Scream, it sounds as though you've thought it all out. And much as these skin to skin type things are popular at the moment, remember they never did any of those things years ago. (well, they might have done it, but it wasn't so well known as now).

In the same way, all this active labour stuff, my mum was saying that when i was born, the minute you were 'in labour' you were put into bed. So active labour might be 'better' but for many many years, women have given birth in bed, so if that's what someone wants, it's not something that 'doesn't work'. So it's never going to, for example, harm your baby to be wiped off first before you cuddle them. Much better (IMO) that you can relax and enjoy those first cuddles when you get them, rather than thinking 'I wonder when I can clean up?' I'm sure the baby will pick up on you being more relaxed too.

It's a good point you make too about the men being hairy for skin to skin - I'd never though of that! To be fair, DH doesn't have a hairy chest at all so probably DS couldn't tell the difference Grin. Just less bumpy than me Grin

That's my opinion anyway Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 02/03/2012 12:59

Oh Shock at being turned away - and sent to Birmingham Scarlet!!! Goodness gracious!!!

I'd definitely take the coffee shop over that! Surely all you need is hot water and towels to deliver a baby anyway Grin well they must have hot water in the coffee shop Grin

Hello, sorry for the posting laziness! Lovely new thread, Scream.

Hope your appt turns out to be helpful this afternoon, Biscuits. I am loving the 'Sneeze' birth plan! Grin

I really want skin to skin with Bean but I will have to wait until we're taken into the recovery room. DH will have her instead. I remember when DD1 was born the MW asking if I wanted to hold her and I would have climbed off the bed, epidural in, placenta undelivered and all, to get hold of her if I'd had to. She was very gunky and covered in thick pea soup meconium but I didn't care. After a while the MW asked me to give her to DH so they could clean me up and he looked all doubtful because he didn't want to get his jumper dirty - I was (momentarily) furious with him. Luckily the MW came to the rescue and wrapped DD in a towel. This time he will be wearing scrubs so Bean can lie on his chest and it won't matter if she's a bit dirty and bloody, because he'll have clean clothes with him. DH has got a hairy chest - Bean won't care, though! I hope she tries to clamp onto his nipple (evil Grin).

Purple, Brooking for a weekend birth for you! RLT sounds horrible.

I finally managed to get all my hospital bag stuff yesterday - mat pads, breast pads, Lansinoh, peppermint oil capsules, mini shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste etc, nipple shields (because Mum spotted them in Boots and was highly intrigued and insisted on me getting some), flipflops, paracetamol. It cost £37 in Boots and another £12.99 for the flipflops in Accessorize Shock. Now I suppose I ought to actually pack my bag. oh good, it is on top of the wardrobe and I'll have to wait for DH to come home and fetch it down

I had my last consultant appt yesterday and all is well. I am first on the CS list for next Friday and have a list of appts for steroid injections, pre-op checks and then the Big Day itself. They give me special antacid tablets on the Thursday to take before bed and first thing in the morning, just in case the spinal doesn't work and they have to go for a general. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to ask if I could have some extras, because the heartburn is killing me!

One week today! In fact, barring a whole string of emergencies, it will all be over by this time next Friday Confused.

Imps7 · 02/03/2012 13:23

A massive RLT fan here! I drink gallons (okay, slight exaggeration) of it, along with most other herbal teas (not fruit teas though - really don't like those)) I've heard it's not good to drink post-ov though so I avoid it then, but I really like it in the first two weeks of my cycle!

Bring on 37weeks (or whenever it is) so I can knock it back for an actual purpose!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 02/03/2012 13:34

32 weeks imps :) I also find it more palatable if it is properly stewed, so I just leave the bag in until I have drank it all.

Too how exciting! Also Shock the antacid is for general?! I had it and I thought it was general cs prep! Although I know they would have knocked me out for cs as Dd was getting some horrid decels and they would have needed to rush. I guess that is also why they recommended an epidural easier to whip her out :(
I also hope you don't need those nipple shields! No mashed nipples allowed! + I could write an essay (and probably have) on the pro and cons on them Hmm
Very expensive these hospital bags! Especially when you buy tens and expensive bag to put all the clobber in!

Mothercare had lansinoh cheap if anyone was looking to buy I think it was £7 something :)

Hawthers hope your getting on well and you too Pomme :)

Oh and Dd was given a wipe down as she came out surfing on a wave of meconiumy waters. Yuck.

PopcornMouseInBoots · 02/03/2012 13:45

I'm living off peppermint tea atm Confused

What are nipple shields for? Shock

jaggythistle · 02/03/2012 13:57

I got antacid before CS too so maybe is just general prep.

I didn't get to hold DS in theatre, he was taken over to be checked ( i think ) and DH went over to cut the cord (still attached at the DS end!) - I could just look round to see them. He was wrapped up a bit and brought over beside me. I remember he stopped crying when he was beside my head, it was wierd. We had skin to skin and the MW helped get him latched on in the recovery room. Apparently I was wheeled to another room to get some extra stitching up at some point and teh MWs had DS while DH got out of his scrubs.

time to go home here...

the Lansinoh was £7 something on Amazon too so about the same.

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 14:33

Hello all, i 've finally made it over.

One baby per thread will be difficult with too and purple within days of each other, fishcake on the 3rd and me on the 4th April, biscuits of course in the middle there... Still, you're all chatting away nicely so should be ok!?

When DD arrived I didn't give a fig about any mess, I just wanted her, on me, now! So I had her for the 15 min til I was in theatre, then DH had her, but not skin to skin I think- Certainly held her and cuddled her on his chest though. I refused weighing etc until I was back from theatre.

I am tired to the point of struggling with DD... DH has been off for 3 days which has been great but he does a lot of wandering off at inopportune moments, plus DD just wants mummy , not daddy... Still the sun's out today which has cheered me up immensely Grin

Has anyone been following the blog about the woman pg with quads, Emma Robbins? She had them on Leap day, at 29+1 Grin. So good job you held off purple, you wouldn't have wanted t steal her tu=hunder (and so sorry you're feeling so ill... Sad Is your DD any better or is she still ill too?)
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-17220978

biscuits, I need another tutorial on the fancy links you can make which just say 'here'... I've forgotten and I'm the only fool who can't do them!!

I should pack a hospital bag too... I tried to get up into the loft for some baby stuff the other day and couldn't fit Blush. literally couldn't squeeze off the top of the ladder through the hatch. OMG. I really am huge!! I will go and do another pic now... I'm almost hoping I go into labour before my CS date now. I was vainly reading threads about CS overhag etc etc and getting put off! Does anyone here have or not have a CS overhang?!

Oh and scarlet and biscuits I have friends who've been shipped to MW led units/ miles further hospitals for mat units being full- Id take the coffee shop too!!! Grin

jaggythistle · 02/03/2012 14:41

cs overhang present here! not read that thread though. :)

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 14:50

Humph. I wish I hadn't. ignorance was bliss Smile

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 02/03/2012 14:53

I am doing the mental equivalent of putting my fingers in my ears and going la la la la la about the CS overhang thing. I have read a number of threads about it and lots of people say it goes away as you lose weight. Mum hasn't got one but she was 17 and so probably bounced back with ease. I shall of course be on the Magic BF Diet which will cure all ills.

Have just logged on to the quad diary and am sniffing now - so cute! So small! I shall read back over the last few posts because it's a while since I've been on it. I love all the biblical names.

pommedechocolat · 02/03/2012 14:57

Seriously from out of space you can see the great wall of china and my norkage!

My milk came in by the way...

Having issues with bf clothes again, how does anyone get their nipple through the gap?! How can I ever feed discretely?! Any tips from people successful with bf first time round?

Dh has taken dd1 to b and q so just Abbie and I at home which is nice. Dd1 coping okay, she likes baby but is getting upset with us. Tantrums over anything that needs to be done and early morning wakings where she will not go back to bed but just screams and screams. It's still a little hard to know whether that's a reaction to baby or caused by three days of dh's mum who basically becomes dd1's slave when she's here...

Still looking pretty pg in the belly area too. That's definitely quicker first time round.

So... Who's running the book on purple or biscuits beating too to it? This thread is going to be do full of babies :)

PopcornMouseInBoots · 02/03/2012 15:05

What are you doing climbing ladders into attics, dream Shock

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:07

I didn't use BF clothes. Mostly not so practical I found from talking to people so I just didn't buy any. i did maternity/bump bands to cover my tummy/back and just pulled normal tops up. Or lots of people do cheap vests and wear either two of these or one under a top and pull top up and cheap vest down to keep norks covered. Hooray for your milk coming in! Sounds very positive with Abbie, and whatever caused it, a new sibling is always going to be a time of upheaval for PFB, or any child!

oh blimey, purple or biscuits... hmmm, biscuits has form. (when was purples DD born?! early, late??) biscuits also has itchy palms/soles of feet, so ?? possibly obstetric cholestasis, so would be induced.... I may even go biscuits (but am sitting on fence til I hear when purples dd was born!!

jaggythistle · 02/03/2012 15:08

Pomme - I wore zip up tops or cardigan type things (or even a big scarf cos it was winter) just so I had some side coverage which made me feel more comfy. It depends what type of nipple gap arrangement you have. Mine had either an outside layer or a flappy bit which moved out of the way...

Man this is hard to describe! I didn't actually feed DS out and about till he was 10 weeks old Blush so he probably found latching on easier than a wee newborn does - they gradually need less aiming and just jump on by themelves IYSWIM, this makes it all easier. :) I was a bit flaked out from birth/cs scar infection etc so didn't get out much at first!

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:09

erm, ladders, trying to get baby clothes down to wash to be able tp pack said hospital bag!! Quite balse about stuff like that in this household... although DH won't let me use VEET? Is anyone else? I can't find anywhere saying not to if pg? DH will let me eat (and makes) uncooked prawns( I don't mean raw, just not hot iykwim) and all kinds of things like that be hair removal creams he forbids - I look like an ape (probably, if I could see)

jaggythistle · 02/03/2012 15:09

I did quite like my BF clothes (from here : www.mamaway.com - just some simple t-shirts and stuff) but moved to cheap vest under top when he was a bit bigger.

jaggythistle · 02/03/2012 15:11

oops www.mamaway.co.uk it was. i bought most of mine from the sale/special offer page as I am a cheapskate!

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:11

balse? blase...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 02/03/2012 15:13

If Biscuits repeats her 36+6 gestation period then she could have her UBB on Monday! And Purple could pop at any time. Still, at 40+13 the last time then it could be a while yet. My money's on Biscuits.

Pomme, Grin at Great Wall of China norkage! How is the bf going apart from the problems with discretion? I am a hussy not very modest so think might go for the top pulled down/muslin draped over Bean's head if Dad/stepfather/BIL/sister's BF etc are around, but not be fussed in front of women. I shall be more concerned with trying to conceal my wobbly stretchmarky tummy! Hopefully someone will be here soon with helpful BF tips.

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:15

too, I am not one for showing flesh normally but I didn't give a monkeys when feeding- my opinion was you're feeding a baby for gods sake, not doing porn shots!! I didn't think I'd be like that beforehand. But if she was hungry, I fed her, and didn't care who was there.

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:16

Right, I'm going to go with biscuits for next, then too, then purple. eek!

DreamingOfPeace · 02/03/2012 15:17

crap- is toos section a week today? then that means my sisters birthday is a week today- argh!!!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 02/03/2012 15:21

Did I just make up that Purple went to 40+13 first time around? I have just scanned back and can't find where she says that. Confused
