Ooo cakes good luck! Let us know how it goes we want pictures :o

Thanks everyone. This being pregnant stuff can be stressful Blush pretty sure it's not a UTI, just having a panic I think Blush Mega painful stabby pains in my uterus last night - just stretching I think - ouch ouch ouch! Gone now though

We were thinking Spain - so 3 hours. DM is adamant we "won't manage" but DH and I are a bit Hmm because it's not that far and there will be 4 adults. But obviously we won't know the temperament of LO until after we have to book, iyswim Shock

McPopcornMouseNFries · 23/03/2012 08:35

wants I feel really ?duh? now ? I am, and you're right, I take pregnacare and they always give me luminous wee Blush

scream I wish DH had to wear a suit to work, yummy!! :o
Your holiday sounds amazing - when DH and I were teens we did Cambodia, and on the flight to Thailand there was a couple with teeny newborn twins (not sure I'd be that brave, tbh, though the healthcare out there is amazing)

Hope you're feeling better today Hawthers? I love the name Farley, it's gone on The List, infact Blush :o

She sounds like a nightmare dream - I think you've made the right choice! And yay for good weights :)

Meal out with my sister tonight. Pretty sure she's noticed my growing belly but isn't asking incase I'm just fat :o :o Will tell her next weekend, once I've had my scan :)

At what point do people start oiling/moisturising bumps with anti-stretchmark stuff?

NinjaChipmunk · 23/03/2012 09:39

pop i should think spain would be fine with a littlun. Maybe take some milton tablets and a bottle to give the baby some boiled bottled water if its hot as well as whatever type of milk feed you end up going with.
As for the moisturiser, I use one daily if I remember as I have fairly dry skin esp at this time of year. If you are going to get stretchmarks there is nothing you can do to stop them. Mine appeared at about 34 weeks with ds (after I had thought I'd got away with it. Bio Oil is good, if a little expensive, It really helps the marks fade afterwards. A good moisturiser will do for now though. Enjoy telling your family next week! What day is your scan?
cakes good luck with the scan, do let us know how it goes. I'm looking forward to my extra one at 32 weeks otherwise I wouldn't have any more! But that is ages away.
dream glad you found someone nice, but sorry to hear you're feeling the strain so much. Take it easy as much as you can xx
With regards to the crying thing, my hormones have never been the same since having ds. I don't think dp's have either. I was showing ds a video of crosby, stills, nash & young singing 'our house' on youtube last night and got all sniffy at that! If i'd have been on my own I'd have been blubbing well and truly! And don't get me started on Slightly Sad Films.
Not sure what we're up to today, but would like to take ds out somewhere nice I think.

pommedechocolat · 23/03/2012 10:18

pop - we did Italy when dd1 was 6 months. I could take no clothes as I filled my suitcase with Ella's Kitchen pouches and formula cartons (I knew in advance Italy is pants for shop bought baby food - would imagine Spain similar) but that was the only drawback. It was easy and brilliant. When she was 14 months and walking we did France by ferry. Ferry a nightmare with active little toddler but holiday great. Have since managed no further than the midlands though :)

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 10:53

Waiting for my scan in waiting room hell. It absolutely reeks in here, I'm almost gagging. Why don't people wash?

pommedechocolat · 23/03/2012 11:09

Eww scarlet. - breathe through your mouth? Yuck!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/03/2012 12:15

Eeew! Scarlet, you poor thing. Have you had the scan yet?

People keep telling me that travel with a small infant is much easier than with a mobile one. Not sure I'll be testing it out, although that's because we'll be broke once I'm on SMP.

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 12:41

Had my scan which showed that the baby's growth is now in line with how it was growing before, so it's not gone off the scale thank goodness and there's no concerns about it's tummy size any more. That's the good news.

The not so good news is that the baby is still transverse, in exactly the same position it was 4 weeks ago, which means it's becoming less likely to move round as it's shown no sign of shifting so far. So.....I'm booked in for an ECV Sad in 2 weeks time. Obviously there is a chance that the baby could move before then (brooking required please) and I really hope it does. The consultant doing it has the best reputation in the hospital but she warned that it is less likely to be successful with a transverse baby than a breech as transverse babies are more likely to go back to being transverse again afterwards where as a breech one will stay head down once turned.

If it fails I will have a C Section at 39 weeks. Apparently transverse babies don't tend to go into labour early as there's nothing pushing down on the cervix. But there is a risk of waters breaking still, in which case it's a 999 call because of cord prolapse.

Oh and I have a urine infection Sad

So I feel a bit emotional and fed up tbh.

dream I'm so pleased your scan went well yesterday, you're doing a fab job with those twins. Great news re the mothers help. That first woman sounds barking!

Biscuitsandtea · 23/03/2012 12:52

Gosh Scarlet what a lot of info to take on board!

Well good news on the tummy size and overall growth. Now we must concentrate our brooking efforts on this head down business. Come on little Scarlette - you can do it! Do you have a birthing ball Scarlet - is there anything you could do on one of those to encourage head down-ness? I'm sure I read something on another thread about hanging off the sofa some way round or another. And playing music to your fanjo? And then there is this idea of burning something or other near your toe which is supposed to help?

At least you've got a great consultant to do the ECV should it be needed.

What is cord prolapse - that sounds v scary! Why is it more likely if your waters break with a transverse baby?

And poo to the UTI - can you have antibiotics for it?

You had to have an ECV with your DS didn't you? Was he breech or transverse?

Imps7 · 23/03/2012 13:15

'Scuse my ignorance - what is an ECV? Assume it's something which attempts to turn baby (although may well be wrong) - don't know what it stands for.

Biscuitsandtea · 23/03/2012 13:43

ECV = external cephalic version. Although I have to say at the mention of an internal cephalic version.

shinyblackgrape · 23/03/2012 13:46

Hello! I'm 4+5 today so decided it was time to come over from the brooking thread and say hello.

This is my first DC and EDD is 26 November 2012.

Off to catch up with the rest of the thread.

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 13:54

Imps it's where a consultant attempts to move the baby into a head down position using their hands on top of your skin. It's not very comfortable, they basically get their hands underneath the baby's bum and try and push it round. The baby won't feel any pain, but I probably will.

I did go in for an ECV with DS, but didn't end up having the full procedure as he miraculously turned while we were waiting. They ended up just knocking his head into place as he wasn't quite head down.

Biscuits cord prolapse is where the cord drops out before the baby. There's nothing blocking my cervix (as there's no head there) so it's possible that if waters go the cord could just drop straight through which is apparently very dangerous for the baby.

A transverse baby isn't more at risk of waters breaking, it's just that if they do there's a risk of cord prolapse.

I do have a birthing ball. I will get on it and do some more bouncing, but I have been doing a lot already. Evidence that this works is anecdotal rather than medically proven but I'm not giving up. I also heard about something being burnt near toes, so I'll have to investigate that too.

No anti-biotics as yet. They're sending the sample off to the lab to see if it's bad enough to warrant them. They offered me some today just in case, but I declined as I have no symptoms, so I'm thinking that it's not too bad (hopefully).

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 13:58

Ah sorry Biscuits just re-read your post. I thought you asked why a transverse baby is more at risk of waters breaking.

Congratulations and welcome shiny Smile Wow November due dates already? Where has this year gone?

Imps7 · 23/03/2012 14:03

Really??? The something-being-burnt-by-your-toes is actually a thing and not just Biscuits joking?? What about the music being played to your fanjo Confused???

DreamingOfPeace · 23/03/2012 14:04

Oh scarlet, that bad baby!!! Are you more optimistic baby'll turn as your ds did or not? There have been lots of threads on ECV on here, I read a few from interest.... Lots of people saying it was very uncomfortable but not agony if that helps? Still, at least then you've tried everything. Or you can refuse the ECV and hope baby moves themselves and accept ELCS if they don't. you've still got options!

Welcome grape, lovely to see you over here :-)

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 14:21

Ha ha Imps Check this out Moxibustion
Not sure about the musical fanjo thing though Confused

I'm not optimistic tbh dream, even though DS did turn. It's about 50/50 with a transverse baby if the ECV will be successful or not. But even then it could still turn back to transverse afterwards. I'll go with the ECV to begin with as there are less risks involved with it than a C section. But it will definitely be an ELCS otherwise. ELCS itself doesn't worry me too much, it's more the inconvenience it will cause looking after DS and pain afterwards that puts me off.

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 14:22

Just noticed a new thread is required sharpish. Any takers?

jenfraggle · 23/03/2012 14:47

Welcome shiny

Feel free to help yourself to a glittery vom bucket although I'm sure you won't need one as I puked enough for everyone

Imps7 · 23/03/2012 14:47

Well I'll be, Scarlet. The mind boggles!

hawthers · 23/03/2012 14:59

pop feel very flattered that farley is on The List. We liked it as its unusual but not too odd. Want to suggest dh's name to people but it would totally out me.

I got my stretch marks at 39 weeks Angry

scarlet good luck with the ecv will be brooking for you.

Hi shiny welcome! Am the old lady of the thread who is hanging around smelling of baby sick (had the first brooking baby 3 months ago) - just can't bare to leave you fabulous ladies.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/03/2012 15:39

Cord prolapse is what they chucked me out of theatre for - they said someone was coming down with a cord prolapse for an EMCS and that it was the most dangerous pg complication. I was also a cord prolapse baby and Mum had to have an EMCS under general anaesthetic.

Scarlet, good luck with the ECV - that's a huge amount of info to take in in one go. Hope your UTI isn't anything serious. If you can't feel it then it must not be too bad.

Hi Shiny, welcome and congratulations!

Imps7 · 23/03/2012 15:45

Quick! Someone needs to start a new thread!

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 16:01
