1,000 posts into the very popular September 2012 thread, here's a new one, for knicker checking, boob prodding, toilet rushing, oh and eating the entire contents of the fridge or McDonalds

Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Full steam ahead to booking in and positive scans aplenty.

We are intending to find out the sex.
DH's mum and dad insisted on not knowing, and his mum was utterly convinced and thrilled she was having a girl... but it turned out to be DH. She made it very clear she was disappointed, and I don't think that's fair on the child!
I think if we find out soon, then we'll know one way or the other before I get the chance to convince myself either way and then be upset. If we know, then we can look forward to it.
I think we're going to keep it to ourselves though. When people we didn't know all that well found out we'd got married, we got sodding candlesticks and towels, which is EXACTLY why we said we didn't want anything. Our close family and friends knew us well enough to get appropriate stuff, but I think when it comes to peanut, if nobody knows, then nobody can buy anything inappropriately pink with Barbie on. Lol. Plus it will give us a chance to have a little secret from everyone, and it will be a dry run for when we hopefully conceive DC2, when we won't tell anyone until after the first scan.

oikopolis · 15/02/2012 16:36

We're also going to find out the sex. DH would really like a boy, so he needs time to come to terms with a possible girl!

I couldn't care less personally. My immediate instinct is "girl" though, I must be honest. Friends think "girl" too. We'll see I suppose.

sasslejaney84 · 15/02/2012 17:13

ballroom I'm not sure to be honest, I don't know how being consultant led works, I was midwife led with my DD! Any help on how it works is very gratefully received!!

Macaroons · 15/02/2012 17:29

hotcupoftea glad to hear that you'll be given a NT scan after all! It must be a real surprise for you when the baby popped out then! I'm intending to do a 4D scan as well (bought groupon voucher a month or so ago when we just found out we are pregnant. It's 99 quid which sounds like a good deal) when's the best time for one?

So busy at work today that I only just managed to get out just in time for my doctor appointment. On the train now and feeling stomachache. Hope it's nothing to worry about! I'm getting so paranoid with all these pains and aches Blush

So long as the baby is healthy, boy or girl really doesn't matter! But we do wanna find out at 20w. I have no gut feel whether it's a boy or a girl... How can you tell?

MadMonkeys · 15/02/2012 17:41

We're going to find our whether its a boy or girl. I have a strong instinct that it's a girl, but i think that probably wishful thinking as it would be lovely for DD to have a sister. But I won't be disappointed if it's a boy, it will just be a bit of a leap into the unknown as I come from a family of girls. We found out with DD at a 34 week scan (I had a low lying placenta at the 20 week scan so I had an extra scan later on to make sure it had moved, and it had). We told people that the sonographer thought it might be a girl even though she was certain DD was a girl, just in case she'd got in wrong. It didn't diminish the overwhelming joy when she arrived, i'm not a massive fan of surprises si I don;t regret finding out at all. Also DH wanted a girl, so it was lovely for him to look forward to that during the last few weeks of pregnancy.

I phoned teh surgery today to find out if they are still doing flu vaccinations, and they didn't know - I have to phone again tomorrow when the urse should be there. Anyone else having it?

WinkyWinkola · 15/02/2012 17:44

Got a scan next Thurs. Will be 11+5 I think.

Today has been ghastly with fatigue and nausea. My poor 3 dcs have mooched about the house all day as I concentrated very hard on not being sick. Could not face going out today.

Sigh. But this too shall pass (my parenthood mantra!)

ballroomblitz · 15/02/2012 17:49

I'm afraid it's a case of the blind leading the blind then sassle. I was shared care but the first time I saw my consultant was 27 weeks once they had picked up a problem. All I know on my appointment for the dating scan says appointment time and 'obstetric consultant' beside the time. It was the midwife at my booking in who told me it would be with the consultant and that I would have far more scans and appointments than normal, most at the hospital rather than than the usual gp/community midwives. You could ring them to see when your appointment is??

Yay Thali I have a scan buddy :) Tbh though I'm not paying much attention to due date/ how far along I am. People keep asking me how far along I am and I haven't a clue. Had to sit and work it out yesterday when I got the apppointment through yesterday - and was a little but disappointed because I thought I was further along.

I agree with you on the gender differentation Misscoffee. I remember playing with my brother's soldiers and him playing with my barbies. We also shared a room (and a big double bed for a while when we were younger). I think I was 7 when we eventually got our own rooms. Ds has a sex chromosome disorder so I identify more with how gender isn't fixed into blues and pinks, dolls and guns or x and y chromosomes. Cracks me up when my dad comes out with things like 'don't be a big girl's blouse' to him. I know he'll adore having a wee one around as he's brilliant with babies.

ballroomblitz · 15/02/2012 17:51

I had my flu vaccine done two weeks along MadMonkeys. The day after my first midwife appointment they booked me in for one. Told me they do them until March.

sasslejaney84 · 15/02/2012 18:28

ballroom my midwife said she had put me through for shared but as I have epilepsy (not had a fit for over 6 months and my last one was alcohol induced!!) She asked if I'd had my apppt and said it would be coming through so I'll wait a week or so and then call the hospital if I don't hear anything

LittleSpade · 15/02/2012 18:39

Had my booking appointment yesterday and now waiting for my scan date to come through. Not much else to report for now except my boobs are killing me and I'm thinking I'll have to go bra shopping at the weekend as all my existing ones hurt me. Also having a bit of a crisis about whether to give up running my own business and become a stay at home mum or whether to take someone on, or whether to just try and scale back and juggle things. My instinct is to give it up as I'm not happy and although successful i'm not making mega-money or even much more than i was in previous full-time employment but I'm worried that would be a crazy/stupid decision. Have posted on the work thread so hopefully somebody will offer some advice.

lurkingmurking · 15/02/2012 19:09

Good on you for complaining hotcupoftea - really pleased you're getting your NT scan.

We won't find out the sex. We didn't with DS and it was so amazing to have the surprise right at the end (and it helped with the motivation to push!!) Part of me would love to have two boys I think a DD would bankrupt us!

funchum8am · 15/02/2012 19:13

Lots of scans happening - I've been to visit family up north and told my mum but not dad, stepmum and brother/SIL as they had their first DD a month ago and don't want to steal the baby thunder (not actually likely given how mad all three new grandparents have gone over their gorgeous baby) and also in case it goes wrong. If I lose this one, I'll need my mum, but I don't want to have to tell lots of other people til I'm ready. BUT I have made it to 8+6 and GP has referred me to the hospital who have already rung once to try and make an early scan appt for me, so hopefully that will be this week or next. Booking appointment will also be made by phone asap apparently.

GP seemed amazed that I waited til being 8 weeks to go and see her - I pointed out that her two colleagues I saw the previous two times I was pregnant seemed positively bored by me going at 5 weeks so I thought I'd not waste their time til after the 6 week danger zone (have had two MCs at 6 weeks) was past. You just can't get it right whatever you do! No symptoms other than tired/huge boobs/nice skin and hair so huge sympathy to all of you who are suffering....

blondiep14 · 15/02/2012 19:23

Hi all waves.
How is everyone doing?
I've got my booking appt Monday when I shall be 9+2. Hopefully will get a scan date then or soon after as well.

Have been feeling SO sick, all the time with this one. Wasn't as bad with DS1 or 2 I'm sure. DH is convinced it's a girl because I've been so ill but we've decided not to find out. We loved the surprise with the boys!
I've always hankered after 4 boys but I think I'd be quite happy with a girl this time. I'd probably stop at 3 too!!

Our parents and very close friends know, and I'll probably tell my sisters as am seeing one this weekend and as soon as I say 'no' to wine she'll twig anyway!

fatsamsgrandslam · 15/02/2012 19:28

Hello!
Sorry for those ladies who are still suffering - hopefully all will settle once the first trimester is done.

We've got our scan on Tuesday - am looking forward to it and dreading it in equal measure. Most of my family and friends know about the pg - not necessarily by choice. My dsis is also pg (about 2 months ahead) so when she announced it, it made sense for us to do it together. We were pg together last time - there's only 4 weeks between dcs. Also when we've seen friends and I haven't been drinking - it's been super obvious and I just can't lie. If we find there is something wrong at the 12 week scan, there will be a lot of people to call/text with bad news, which I'm sure will make things worse Sad.

For all those wondering about the sex of their bean - I heard an old Chinese method of predicting the sex. Apparently you take the age you were when you conceived and then add the month you conceived (jan -1, feb -2 etc). If the total is an even number then you are having a girl and if it is an odd number then your are having a boy. That method works with my dc1 and my sister's - but not with others - clearly NOT scientific! I wouldn't recommend decorating the nursery based on that method!!!! If it is right then my bean is a girl - have to wait and see!

Is anyone else suffering from trapped wind? If so, have you found anything that makes it better?

AmyBeth · 15/02/2012 19:33

Im 4+3 only found out on friday, i knew i was feeling very sensitive to smells and tastes and i cried alot haha! Im only 18 and im very nervous about miscarriage, i cant get it off my mind. How do i stop panicking so much? I have a bit of tummy pain but its nothing like period cramps, it feels a bit like tummy ache...maybe just gas?! should i make a doctors appointment? put my mind at rest, or am i just over worrying? So happy for everyone btw and goodluck :) xxxx

Annaloveschocolate · 15/02/2012 21:25

Hello all,

Just had my booking in appointment with the midwife today - due 27th September. Very very excited as first baby. Also quite shocked as only started trying in Jan so conceived on the first cycle.

AmyBeth I've also been getting tummy pain, the midwife told me today that as long as it isn't associated with any bleeding then it's fine. Probably is gas or something else as disgusting - I do seem to be feeling quite disgusting lately! No idea I would be so exhausted all the time or so constantly nauseated.

Boobs have decided to explode massively, I'm very shocked how quickly they've decided to balloon. Is that normal for 8 weeks?!

Def going to find out the sex as soon as possible, also going to take as many scans / checks / tests that they can throw at me. I get really nervous if I don't know what's what and as this is first baby it's all a bit new!

Congratulations to everyone, and I hope all our beans are healthy!

oikopolis · 15/02/2012 22:57

I have never been so hungry in my life. A friend of mine who knows i'm pg told me when i first told her, she was worried about me/bean because i've never been a big eater... well... that is all over.

So far my obsessions have included: Hungarian schnitzel sandwiches (with deepfried aubergine slices, grilled mushrooms and Havarti cheese), spaghetti Bolognese, fresh egg pasta with sugo crudo and Parmesan, hot dogs Chicago-style, steak fajitas, black-bean nachos with guacamole, peach crumble with vanilla ice-cream and oat-choc-chip cookies. And plain fresh bread spread with butter [drool]. And gallons of cold milk. But the joke is that I'm so exhausted I can barely stand in front of the stove.

I've gone from eating three times a day to nearly fainting from hunger every two hours. I'm eating myself out of house and home!!! But I suppose there's nothing to be done about that.

lurkingmurking · 16/02/2012 09:01

oikopolis you have made me drool! Where do you live? I need one of those sandwiches for breakfast!

amybeth tummy pain is really normal, there's a lot going on in there atm. As long as there's no bleeding try not to worry. I would make an appointment with the GP.

Nothing much to report here - I feel really preggers at the moment which is lovely. My Dad was over yesterday looking after DS and we had lots of baby chat which was nice. I'm starting to think about arranging furniture and stuff. When we had DS we were in a teeny 1 bed flat and are now in a house so the space is a luxury.

For those who already have DC - are you planning on having them share a room? I think we'll have baby in with us for at least 4 months (no way am I trooping into another room for night feeds) but then are planning on having them share.

MadMonkeys · 16/02/2012 09:08

lurking - the new one will be in our room for probably 6 months, then it will go in it's own room. The only thing is DD already has the bigger room, so if the next one turns out to be twins (scary thought!) DD will have to go in the smaller room so the little ones can go in the big one. But there's no reason for me to suspect twins (deep breathing, no need to panic) so that's unlikely.

I know what you mean about the appetit oikopolis, except that I find I can manage my usual large portions - I feel starving at the start of a meal but get full quicker than normal. Probably a good thing, otherwise I'd already be the size of a house...

Macaroons · 16/02/2012 09:10

Quick report on maternity tights. The one from h&m got a hole already after just 1 wear! Angry

Annaloveschocolate · 16/02/2012 09:35

oikopolis peach crumble with vanilla ice-cream, yes please!!

MadMonkeys I am the same when it comes to eating - managed to make a very yummy roast chicken dinner the other night, then could only manage a few mouthfuls of it! I find I have to eat exactly when I am hungry - any waiting around for things to cook just makes me feel nauseated and then I can't eat it!

funchum8am · 16/02/2012 11:04

I'm getting really hungry then getting really full quickly as well - have had to down grade from two chicken fajita wraps to one when DH makes them (we have them quite a lot!)

Am sitting here waiting for the EPU to ring about my reassurance scan and for the midwife to ring about my booking appt. (Well, and marking essays to pass the time, but waiting for the phone to ring is far more interesting!)

Can I second the peach crumble?! M&S apricot tart with vanilla ice cream is also delicious.

sasslejaney84 · 16/02/2012 11:38

I'm constantly starving too!! I can't eat anything until 10 tho, otherwise, it just makes me sick!

I'm currently eating my way through enough food to feed a small army every night!!

Last night I had my tea (salt and pepper chicken wings and sticky thai rice) then about 2 hours later I was hungry again so I made a pizza and me and my oh shared it!

MadMonkeys · 16/02/2012 12:35

Just had a lovely baked spud with cheese and salad. Yum yum.

Peach crumble sounds fab. Mmmmmm.

funchum8am · 16/02/2012 13:00

Scan all booked for 11.15 on Monday. I have had to email my boss to organise cover for the lesson I'll miss and I bet she guesses what my "medical appointment" is for so if all is well with the scan I will tell her formally on Monday lunchtime. Not sure what she will say but she knew we were trying so can't be too surprised.

Had chilli with soured cream, cheese and a pitta bread for lunch. Nicely full now so am clearly learning my lesson about not eating too much at one sitting - will probably be starving again soon. The only time I feel sick is when I haven't eaten and start to get hungry so best make sure we have food in!
