1,000 posts into the very popular September 2012 thread, here's a new one, for knicker checking, boob prodding, toilet rushing, oh and eating the entire contents of the fridge or McDonalds

Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Full steam ahead to booking in and positive scans aplenty.

Could you afford a private scan Floydie they are around £100 and might be worth it if you can't get one on NHS. Though to be honest I had one at 8 weeks and was fine bit I'm still convinced something will go wrong before my 12 week scan in 2 weeks!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 09/02/2012 22:11

Thanks all. Really lovely to read your kind words.

Dorita, so sorry you are going through it too. If you want to talk you can PM me. Xxx

Please would one of you take me off the stats thread. Hopefully I'll be back on another one soon. Smile

quitcomplaining · 09/02/2012 22:16

So sorry dorita and Ethel. Sending you lots of love and wishing you healthy future pregnancies. Xx

Macaroons · 10/02/2012 07:04

Haven't been posting for a while as I was away, so sorry to hear about your loss dorita and ethel Sad take good care of yourselves, big hugs.

I'm having my first booking in appointment with midwife this morning. Don't really know what to expect. Will they take blood from me? Will they use doppler to try heat baby heart beat? Or will it be as uneventful as GP appt few weeks ago? Had an incident during holiday - the seaplane we were on crashed when it tried to land on our way to airport so it was a bumpy landing and one wing broke off and we had to get out from the emergency exit while the plane floated on water to wait for rescue boat. There's no sharp pain and no bleeding afterwards so I presume and i hope my little bean is a strong fighter! (who would have thought a relaxing holiday in maldives can get this exciting?) I do hope I can hear his/her heartbeat at the MW appt later for reassurance, rather than having to wait 2 weeks for NHS scan. Apart from this incident holiday has been great and very enjoyable.

rightontime · 10/02/2012 07:34

Sorry to hear your news Dorita and Ethelred Hope everything goes better for you next time. x

sasslejaney84 · 10/02/2012 08:25

macroons they will take blood, go through history of previous pregnancies and MC's etc, then they will possibly start doing your notes etc, mine gave me mine to start filling out myself. I don't think they can listen to the heartbeat yet, I think its only after the 12 week mark they can do that, I wish they could!! It would make me feel better too! The nearly 3 weeks I have to wait is gonna last foever!!

Its half term next week for DD so we have agreed to have a lazy week, we'll possibly go over to see my gran and she will possibly go to see her grandma and maybe her nanny! I will be able to sleep to my hearts content then!!

Whatevertheweather · 10/02/2012 08:27

Macaroons that does sound scary! Was it a lovely holiday other than that? I'd love to go to the Maldives. As for your booking appt. Yes to taking blood about 3 vials for all the screening that needs to be done. There will be a lot of form filling and discussing if you want nuchal testing for Down's. They may also do height and weight although mine just asked me. You will get your handheld notes and first bounty pack. Dopplers are not reliable at picking up fetal hb until about 16-20 weeks so she is unlikely to try as may well worry you more! It will last 1-1.5hrs. Good luck Smile

lurkingmurking · 10/02/2012 09:08

Dorita and Ethelfred I'm so sorry to hear your news

Macaroons blimey that sounds eventful!!! I think it's only after approx 16 weeks they can hear the heartbeart through a doppler so today will mainly be blood test, weight, blood pressure and questions!

I FINALLY have my private scan on Sunday when I'll be 9 weeks - I am so so nervous. I am also constipated and keep getting belly pains which I course make me worry but they are relieved by a fart or 20 (sorry if TMI!!)

It's not like me but I am being so pessimistic about the scan so I'm not disappointed.

york67 · 10/02/2012 09:48

So sorry dorita and ethel
What an end to your holiday macaroons
Wll I am officially stressed. When to see gp on a week ago who said midwife will call. Fortunately, I decided to ring her today as apparrently I should be taking extra folic acid and vitamin d due to my weight. Not hopeful of getting prescription tonight.
Not even sure what the dosage is I need. Any ladies know so maybe I can buy if stuck.
Thank you.

Loopyhasanotherbean · 10/02/2012 09:52

so sorry to hear dorita and ethelred's sad news. Hope you both have successful pregnancies very soon.

macaroons the others are right, there is no way you will hear the heartbeat. This appointment will be to fill in your notes, which includes taking your blood pressure and working out your BMI, and things like where you want the birth/how you want it (mine will prob be an ELCS after my DS's birth, although i'd rather have a HBAC, but the risks are probably going to mean it's more likely to be an ELCS - and there is only one hospital near me so thats a done deal really as to where we'd go). You have a scan at 12 weeks, and then you won't see the midwife until 16 weeks, and if you are lucky, they may hear a heartbeat then, but not always, as it's not easy to hear them!

Hope those who have scans coming up get good news, i can't wait till mine on the 21st, can't help worrying as some days i don't even feel pregnant lately, and i feel completely different to how i felt when i was pregnant with DS.

Loopyhasanotherbean · 10/02/2012 09:54

*york yes i know!!!

my midwife said the rules had changed and my doctor should have told me. if you have a bmi over 30, you should take 5mg not 4mg. Although she said given that i was 10+2 when i saw her, there may be little point worrying about it now. I am lighter than i was with DS, and took pregnacare with him, and he was fine, and taking pregnacare now. Admittedly i haven't checked, but she seemed to think those contained 4mg not 5mg. Not a clue re Vitamin D though?

Loopyhasanotherbean · 10/02/2012 09:58

(just looked at box and they contain 400 something or other of folic acid, uses a symbol i don't have on my keyboard! would suggest that they are not the right level and i should be having a higher level, but i will be 11 weeks on Sunday so think i will just stick to what i'm taking, really can't see that it will make that much difference, after being on this level for ages pre-pregnancy and for the first 11 weeks, as they say you don't have to take it after the 12th week ....although i still take them as a boost to whatever nutrients my diet gives me and took them throughout breastfeeding)

Whatevertheweather · 10/02/2012 10:24

Just got my nuchal and dating scan date through it's not until 1st March when I'll be 13+1 Sad Gutted to have to wait a whole extra week really thought I had less than 2 weeks to get through.

Methe · 10/02/2012 10:32

Hi ladies I'm just checking in. I'm 8+4 now and still feeling pretty grotty. I had a scan last week due to suspected ectopic but it was in the right place which was a relief but it was small for dates.. 5+ when it should have been closer to 7.. It had a good strong HB though which was nice to see but I can't get
Y hopes up as last time I had a scan like that it ended in a mmc :(

Still, I have my booking in appt with my midwife on Tuesday and I'll see if I can persuade her to book me in for a reassurance scan, if not I'll have one privately I think and if that's ok I'll buy a Doppler.

I hope things are going ok for everyone else? X

Sorry to read of the miscarriages. I've had 3 myself they are horrible :( ((((huge hugs)))) xx

LittleSpade · 10/02/2012 11:30

Feeling much better now. Spent 3 whole days in bed doing nothing and yesterday just pottering around really so i didn't overdo things. Thanks for the Thanks and Brew which made me feel better :)

Loopy the funny symbol you refer to in relation to the Folic Acid means 'micro' hence you're taking 400 micrograms. This is the recommended amount for most people to have daily. Not sure about what extra people with a high BMI are supposed to have though sorry.

So sorry to hear of Dorita and etherlred's sad news. Hugs and best wishes for future success.

What an adventure Macaroons! You must have been terrified! I hope the rest of the holiday was good though. Is it as beautiful there as it looks in the brochures?

Had a pre-screening appointment with my mw this morning. She seemed really nice but the appointment aas very non-eventful, she just weighted me and got me to sign a consent form for the NTS. Got my booking appointment next Tuesday. Did someone else say there's was on the same day?

FloydieDoydie · 10/02/2012 12:53

Well I'm convinced I'll lose this pregnancy. I tested again this morning and the line was really faint. I'm so upset.

I have seen the GP this morning and to be honest he was a bit useless. He didn't even understand what I meant when I said I was 7+6 Angry He asked was I "confirmed" pregnant. I said well I have had 14 positive tests so I should think so! He has sent me for a blood test - no mention of a repeat test to compare in a few days. I said that last time I didn't start to bleed until 11 weeks (but hadn't developed properly for my dates), so I didnt want to have to wait for weeks on end before I started to lose it, and he said "well it might be reabsorbed" Angry I doubt 8 weeks worth can be reabsorbed. He has no idea what it's like to have to pass a lost baby and how traumatic that is clearly. Sad

I'm trying not to get too upset, but I have a feeling it's all over. I don't know if DP will even let me try again after this. Sad

flipflopper · 10/02/2012 14:00

aww floydie, you poor thing, your dr sounds rubbish!
Is there a reason why you think you are going to mc? Have you had bleeding or is it just the tests becoming more faint?
Look positive! Have you got any symptoms?

TinkerMaloo · 10/02/2012 15:20

Hey everyone :)

that took some catching up! i missed a few days and there are so many posts to read! keeping this short as DD is making me clap my hands every few seconds as i try to type...

so sorry to those that have had bad news :(

and welcome to the couple of newbies :)

finally got a scan date, 2nd march when i will be 12+4 yay! cant come soon enough. feeling less sick these past few days :)

take care all

fatsamsgrandslam · 10/02/2012 15:58

Hello!

Haven't had much of a chance to post before, but I have been keeping up with the thread. I'm so sorry for those ladies who have had m/c Sad.

I am 10+4 today, and am another one who has their scan on 21st feb. Roll on shrove tuesday! Not really had many symptoms, and am so grateful that I have so far escaped MS.

I developed pre-eclampsia very late on in my last pg, my mw hasn't referred me to a consultant as it was very late on so she's just going to be keeping a close watch on my bp. Today has been very stressful - and I can feel anger building up in my chest - lucky I'm not having my bp tested today!!!!! Is anyone else struggling to get things into perspective? Perhaps it's a hormone thing? Or perhaps I'm just a stresshead! My DH would probably just take this issue off my hands (it's a problem with a house we rent out - nightmare tenant, useless letting agent, complaining neighbours!) but his work is very intense, he travels a lot and is meetings most of the day so hardly has time for all this nonsense.

For the lady (sorry am on iPad app and have forgotten your name) who is worried about m/c and is still testing - I am sure that I read somewhere that home pg tests are only reliable in the first few weeks of pregnancy - they can't cope with the increasing hcg levels so after about 7-8 weeks or so you actually get a false negative. Hope that sets your mind at rest a little!

FloydieDoydie · 10/02/2012 17:05

Thanks for the reassurance Smile

I was really concerned as I have stopped feeling so sick and then the light and v light tests.

But erm, just had a call from the GP - my HCG results show I'm pregnant...twelve weeks pregnant. I'm only supposed to be 7+6!

So I'm having a scan on Monday. Fingers crossed then! I definitely had a bleed in December, but maybe it was implantation. Or maybe it's twins Shock

Either way, I'm not counting my embryos chickens til I see a heartbeat.

FloydieDoydie · 10/02/2012 17:07

Doh italics fail!

fatsamsgrandslam · 10/02/2012 17:16

That's really good news floydie!!! And bonus that you get to skip a few weeks of first trimester!!!

oikopolis · 10/02/2012 17:21

My norks are getting enormous.
Just thought I'd share that.

firsttime - I've been suffering from trapped wind quite badly - do you think it could be that? I've been contorting myself into some really bizarre positions to try and get it out. So embarrassing sometimes - I sound like a trucker!
