Happy new year everyone, not long for those of us that haven't popped yet!

Ooooooh! I'm excited for Cakes, Innocent from the February baby bus is also in hospital in suspected early/slow labour. Feeling very left out. Good luck to all the rest of you that have been swept/stretched/poked and prodded today.

Moobee · 11/01/2012 15:02

FX for cakes!

oiesha Sorry to hear you're having a bad day. You have time to think about the sweep yet. Hope your nap makes you feel better!

Dee glad to hear your sweep wasn't uncomfortable.

Tia we're at the same stage. I'm going to be offered a sweep tomorrow I think, but I think I'm going to decline. I'll be 40+4 and I don't really want one before 41. I'm not sure I can get another appointment before 42 weeks though - what to do??! I won't be induced until 42 weeks (maybe 42 and a bit) here.

Kelli, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. fish's tips sound good.

saladcream how come you're back at work in three weeks? Don't you have to have at least two weeks post birth off?

ghost sorry to hear that things slowed down, but at least you know your body is warming up. I hope you had a nice lunch out. I meant to say about the bruxism - do you have a mouthguard? I have one and I've heard they can be useful to take into the labour ward to stop any damage from teeth clenching. I grind my teeth really badly, it's such a nuisance.

I had lunch out today at my old workplace with my old colleagues and DH (we met at work). It was quite refreshing to have a change of scenery!

To whoever said they're getting fed up of messages asking how things are going - yes! So annoying! I've had 8 messages, including phone calls so far today. I don't know why people are asking if I'm in labour - as if I'm going to reply to them if I am? Gah.

Moobee · 11/01/2012 15:04

Kitty - sounds like you're doing a good job. xx

Sorry to anyone else I crossed posts with or missed - I write on my phone very slowly and sometimes miss bits.

addictediam · 11/01/2012 15:04

Oeshia it sounds like last week she wasn't 3/5 engaged she was 3/5 palpable - which is how much the mw can feel of her head. So this week she can feel 2/5 which mean she's further down and more engaged. It's one of thoes funny things, mws say it diffrently and can confuse everyone!

Moobee · 11/01/2012 15:06

Bun and MissRee, sounds like you might be on your way, fingers crossed for you both!

addictediam · 11/01/2012 15:10

Kitty dd has milk allergies and the guilt i felt was overwelming (she was also allergic to my milk :()
There are several types of milk and not all suit all babies, even tho initially it may look like it does. Don't be scared to say, this one isn't working can we try another.
Pm me if you want to talk. I know how thoes first few days and weeks can be terrifying and really hard as you fight an uphill battle trying to get people to listen.

MissRee · 11/01/2012 15:19

Just a quick update - am being admitted for induction now Sad

kelli10 · 11/01/2012 15:22

Thanks for the advice fish. I will be rubbing away (all around the bump or just lower abdo?).

Kitty sounds like you've done everything right. If BF isn't working should we let our babies starve or should we bloody well feed them?!? Well done you for making the hard decision to move on.

Addicted thanks for clearning up the 5ths thing. I was very confused that my notes said 5/5 then 4/5 but no one had told me I'd engaged so much. So not engaged very much at all it seems!

Moobee and all you ladies who have been getting all the msgs calls asking about progress, I feel quite left out. No one has asked me... I did however freak my mum out on Monday night - couldn't sleep so text her to say we'd be round for dinner the following day as long as she didn't mind me coming with a stinking cold. She shot bolt up in bed thinking so kind of emergency was happening, oops!!

kelli10 · 11/01/2012 15:23

Good luck MissRee!!! Hope all goes smoothly.

Moobee · 11/01/2012 15:35

MissRee, you'll have your baby soon, that's a great thing to focus on! Thinking of you.

saladcreamwitheverything · 11/01/2012 16:01

Moobee - Three weeks on Monday I should have said! Cutting it very fine!!

Oeisha · 11/01/2012 16:20

addcited Possibly, though I did ask both times and both times she said 'engaged' and she's put the numbers with a downwards arrow on my notes...(rather than 'engaged' or 'palp'), which woudl suggest to me that Abis' come up a bit. Oh gods, she's going to still be in there when she's 20!!!

Sleep has helped a bit, but has brough on the headache worse.

missree good luck for tomorrow.

addictediam · 11/01/2012 16:50

Oh, then I dont know oeisha. but i do know the 'shed going to be here until shes 20' feeling! And i haven't even reached my due date yet.

Missree, its really not that bad, focus on the cuddly squishy newborn at the end.

ParsleyLion1 · 11/01/2012 16:52

I don't think they write eng or palp very often oeisha Mine talks about engaged but writes palpable.

May have overdone it a bit today. Been moving furniture and putting a desk together. Made sure I was careful and didn't lift anything heavy but am exhausted now.

Fx all goes well missree Smile

Oeisha · 11/01/2012 16:53

addicted at least I have a wriggler, so there's every chance she'll wriggle back...and down...must stop feeling sorry for myself. Sat on birthing ball now, and will start hanging upside down a couple of times a day.

DawnOfTheDee · 11/01/2012 16:57

Karmanna does sound a bit odd to be offered just one sweep so late after due date. I got told they offer at least two - first one to happen any time after your due date has passed. Might be worth asking again?

Kitty glad to hear things are getting better (hugs)

Good luck MissRee update us as soon as you're able! V exciting.

fishandlilacs · 11/01/2012 17:08

According to my sisters midwife, the new NICE guidelines are to only offer one sweep now.

xshevix · 11/01/2012 17:19

I asked my midwife this afternoon and she said I wouldn't get one till 41 weeks x

ghosteditor · 11/01/2012 17:43

Missree good luck!

No further word from cakes right now.

Moobee yes I do have a guard - so unpleasant! - and it's on the list for hospital, but i don't normally grind when awake. I have a crazy strong bite though.

Oeisha, MWs can be baffling! Good luck with Abi turning again. I sympathise with your mood, but am sure you'll pick up again soon Brew

Had a thoroughly lovely afternoon but am fully exhausted now. Cx are back and fairly uncomfortable but not particularly close together, and am so tired now...

Spagbolagain · 11/01/2012 17:45

41wks today, just back from MW. Had a sweep, cervix still posterior and firm, she had trouble reaching it. I really thought that as this is DC2 there would be something to report by now:(

She has offered me another sweep on Monday to give me the best chance of things getting going for my homebirth. Otherwise it's induction next Thurs, which I'll be sad about, but that's life I suppose.

ghosteditor · 11/01/2012 17:57

Oh spag [hugs]. Fx for you.

Bellakins · 11/01/2012 18:00

Good luck missree and cakes!

Ouch ouch ouch ... Went for a 3.5 mile walk today and now hips and back really ache. Can barely move! Was trying to kickstart labour but think I have done more harm than good. Husband will be home from work soon and then I'm hoping he will give me a lovely back massage! In the meantime cuddles from cat will have to do.

Bellakins · 11/01/2012 18:04

Oh spag, sorry to hear that. I might get offered a sweep tomorrow but not sure if I'll take it. Fingers crossed for you.

tigana · 11/01/2012 19:08

My MW gave me a sweep at 39+6...not that it did any good...and I'm hoping to get another (Hmm hoping for a sweep!...) when I see her on Thursday when I'll be 40+6, expect she'll also book me for an induction for the following thursday.

Good luck missree, you'll be fine, nearly there now.

Having been told last night that I looked days away from delivering has actually freed me up a bit. Although I was pretty miserable and down about it at the time, and this morning, it has meant that I have stopped analysing every little twinge and ache 'just in case'. Still hoping that she was wrong, obviously Grin and trying not to think about the ever-decreasing number of days until DH has to go away with work (1st week feb).

ghosteditor · 11/01/2012 19:37

Hi everyone - Cakes has now been induced and is having strong surges.

She's had some lovely midwives and is doing ok. Smile
