Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cakeandcava · 16/06/2012 16:36

dor I put on about 5kg / 11pounds in the first trimester -this is a fair bit more than what the books say is normal, but I'm not too worried about it. I was eating pretty much constantly, as that was the only way to fend off nausea, and the weight gain seems to have slowed down now that I'm eating more normal again.

The midwife doesn't seem remotely bothered about weight issues though? I was asked my weight at the booking in appointment, and since then it's not been mentioned. I was in the upper end of the 'normal' BMI range (24.5) -it might be that they pay more attention if you are over- or underweight. I think the range is pretty wide before they start being seriously worried about problems though.

blonderthanred · 16/06/2012 17:50

I put on about 7 lbs by my 12 week appt. That's ok I think although I'm trying not to put on too much as my BMI was already 37...

Haven't weighed myself at home as I don't want to obsess about things, just trying to eat healthily with a few empty carbs here and there. Are you worried about it Dot?

Re. the scan, we want to find but not announce it till the birth. But everyone is getting cross with us and I am rubbish at keeping secrets so we shall see!

FriendofDorothy · 16/06/2012 17:58

I reckon I have put on about 7-8lbs, but I also have a BMI of 37. It slightly worries me and I tend to have a slightly unhealthy head space around weight gain so I am trying to gauge whether I am being greedy or whether I am doing ok. I do find my diet hard to manage at the moment tho.

blonderthanred · 16/06/2012 18:18

I menkulled a lot as I had put on all the weight I'd lost last year just before becoming pg. Esp as I'd lost the weight in order to have a healthy body to carry a baybee. But I think the best thing is just to eat reasonably healthy stuff that you enjoy, plenty of f&v and do a bit of whatever gentle exercise you feel up to.

Sounds obvious I know but I feel much better now and am enjoying having a varied diet. Slimming World does take pg women if you want actively to lose weight but personally I'm happier being moderate (although we'll see if it's working on Tues!)

FriendofDorothy · 16/06/2012 18:23

I did SW before I got pregnant but I just can't get my head around it and I need to drink orange juice at the moment which I would have to count on SW!

blonderthanred · 16/06/2012 18:48

Drink the juice! Plenty of time to eat broccoli and brown rice when you're feeling more like yourself in the second trimester.

(again apologises if sounding like know-it-all when actually clueless)

queenrollo · 16/06/2012 22:12

this evening I am feeling really, properly nauseous. I'm off to bed, because I think it's being triggered by me being tired.

KatAndKit · 16/06/2012 22:14

Can't wait to hear good scannage news.

don't worry about weight. Also SW has a special differs plan doesn't it? Speak to your group rep person about it. But don't worry. I tried to be a bit sensible because I was a bit porky to begin with and I am only a little above my starting point now. Nine weeks of bf'ing has taken about 5 pounds off me.

FriendofDorothy · 16/06/2012 22:51

I used to be a SW group member but when I moved to Guernsey I had to become an online member as there is no group here. I have suspected my account for a while because they won't let me weigh in so I don't get loads from it at the moment. Will go back to it after I have spawned though.

blonderthanred · 17/06/2012 00:25

Hurray for nausea Rollo! Sleep well...

I look forward to bf-ing all those lbs off. In my scan pic the baybee has a right little pout so hopefully s/he will be good at it (for both our sakes, mostly his/hers obv).

An opk Bugs?

cakeandcava · 17/06/2012 09:51

Morning all!

Hormones do dip a bit up and down in the beginning. It's part of the fun Hmm
I had one day, around the 6-week mark I think, where I must have had quite a dramatic dip, everything was exactly as it is pre-droid; deflated boobs, runny poo, slight crampage.
Had a massive hysterical freak out at home that evening (I'm normally quite level-headed), MrCakes just looked at me and drily commented, 'I think the way you're reacting to this is a symptom'. Could have smothered him!

Just hang in there bugs -is there anything you're doing today to help distract you from menkulling?

That's amazing, I never knew that. Probably a good thing as I still had about 25 IC opks so would have carried on testing every day after my IC pg tests had run out!

I have given up trying to buy maternity wear in a proper shop and I am now shopping on ebay.

So far I have purchased three dresses, costing £4.20, £6.50 and £9.25 and a pair of jeans for 99p and black trousers for 99p.

Not bad :)

queenrollo · 18/06/2012 08:16

Am nervous about today. DH is not working in the city today, but on a course this morning so he will be here when I get home from the hospital which is good.
I have an upset stomach this morning (nerves? pregnancy symptom?) and for the first time I felt sick as soon as I woke. I bought in some arrowroot biscuits in anticipation of this. Last time I had them on my bedside cabinet and ate one with some water before I got up. At the moment the nausea has settled into the background but my mouth is watering constantly. Ugh - but this is good, this is indeed a good sign.

cakeandcava · 18/06/2012 08:25

Nausea is a great sign queenie. Fingers crossed for you, and hope it all goes well. If it helps, I had an upset stomach before my scans -I think there is something about nerves and worrying going on there...

I'm off for my 22-week appointment this morning where I presume I'll obediently pee in a pot and have my bloodpressure checked -last time my bloodpressure had gone up a bit, still normal, but in the upper ranges of normal, so slightly apprehensive about that. I'm feeling ok though, so hopefully all well be fine.

blonderthanred · 18/06/2012 08:56

Best of luck Queenie, jolly good about the nausea. Hope the scan is just amazing. It's so nerveracking isn't it, but it will be so reassuring to see that heartbeat. My first scan looked like a witchety grub (the most beautiful witchety grub in the world). Go for dildocam if they offer it.

Good buys Dor. Maternity shopping is vair hard and not as fun as I thought it would be, but New Look has been good for me, and a few reduced bits from M&P. Asda vests are also vair comfy even with only small bump. Even though they say buy the same size, I've found with loose stuff like vests, 16 works better at this stage as everything comes up mahoosive.

blonderthanred · 18/06/2012 08:57

Good luck cake too, hope the BP is fine.

queenrollo · 18/06/2012 09:20

I'm only 5 weeks (off LMP) so it will be dildo-cam, and I'm likely to only see a sac but no heartbeat yet. I just want to know that this pregnancy is not ectopic (my left tube is very stretched increasing my risk). That is my main worry right now.
I'm probably going to end up having repeat blood tests for a couple of weeks and back for another scan too.

CurlyCasper · 18/06/2012 09:47

Good luck for all the scans - I hope to see lots of good news here soon.

queenrollo · 18/06/2012 13:38
Grin Oh my. I didn't have an internal ultrasound. The pregnancy is right where it should be. And not only could we see the sac and yolk, but I have a little scan picture here with me of the fetal pole and there was a visible heartbeat. Grin

However, I was told to come home and make a booking in appt with the Community Midwife. I phoned my surgery to be told she is only there every other week and is fully booked until the end of July!! when I will already be 11/12 weeks, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do now because I need to be on the system or I won't get the 12 week dating scan......I've been given the number for the midwives at the hospital and told to phone them.....

cakeandcava · 18/06/2012 14:11

Wooooohooooo!!!!! GrinGrinGrin

That is such brilliant news! So happy for you -a little heartbeat! That's wonderful. And a scan pic!

Is there any chance you could get in the system without seeing the midwife first? Even if it is just to get a scan booked? I know everywhere is different, but at my practice, I got the date for my booking in and my scan at the same time, when I first self-referred to the midwives...

In other, less exciting, but still good, news, my blood pressure is down a bit and totally normal, and everything else was fine too. Got a listen to his heartbeat, which was lovely :)
