Belini · 09/12/2011 22:10

Hi ladies looking for your thoughts on this please. I have decided I don't want a birthing partner. I have no OH, my best friend is a drama queen and a bit short on patience, and I would rather my mum was looking after my DC so they are not shipped off left, right and centre. Today however at my MW/consultant appointment they were both quite unsupportive when I told them I would be coming in alone. It has left me second guessing myself a little. What do you all think?

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 09/12/2011 22:23

That's a tricky one belini I think the hospital will always prefer you to have one so that they have somebody not high on g&a to translate and sit with you while they are elsewhere. I'd be worried about being left on my own but that's just me. Some people might prefer it. What did the MW/ consultant say was their issue?

Can the friend sit the DCs and your mum come with you?

SantaSHO · 09/12/2011 22:44

I had the same thinking as parsley o hope you find a solution your happy with bellini
Good placenta news m2b, sorry your house got bashed up like that, that's worse than some of the stories that in heard here.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 09/12/2011 23:18

Ooof mum2b poorly toe ~:( but good placenta news.

Belini i think as long as you have a good MW with you you'll be fine.

Bit sad i'm not at the party tonight-dh has gone out, all my freinds will be there but my rib flare is bloody chronic so I'm glad i didn't go.

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 10/12/2011 07:35

Morning ladiesSmile

I noticed that mum2be has got a cat net. Is anybody else getting one - I've been thinking about it but part of me thinks I'll just shut the door or both? I'm a bit worried about my panther accidentally squashing bubs because she's warm, comfy and milk smelly. He'll be bigger than her and loves sleeping in baskets.

Wormshuffler · 10/12/2011 07:43

Morning girls
belini hmmm I personally would want someone there, it can be a long 24 hours with no one there and with me out of 27 hours of labour with DD I reckon the midwife was only in with me 3 hours of that time max, if you add it all up. A drama queen might be just what you need in with you Grin or could said drama queen look after the dc's so dm could come in with you? You know yourself best, and as you have done this before so untlimately only you know yourself..........

Nothing planned here this weekend, I am going to keep busy though, I have actually slept relatively normally for the last 2 nights and I think it is because I havn't allowed myself to lay around the house catnapping. The dc's are decorating the tree today and I have the last of the presents to wrap then they can all go under the tree. Not feeling excited at all about christmas, think its a booze thing as well as I just love cooking the dinner whilst making a huge dent in a bottle of baileys. God I sound like an alchy now!

Happy saturday to you all

mum2b, that is excellent news about the placenta shifting :)

SantaSHO · 10/12/2011 08:51

Good morning from snowy Scotland.
We're currently under about an inch of snow and there is a lot if ice under that so my plans to go out are cancelled.

Dd slept in her own bed all night. First time in a week! And I didn't need to visit the loo, so a good night sleep!

Hope your all well as can be and resting x

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 10/12/2011 08:53

Good news mum2b on your placenta shifting. but sorry to hear about your little toe.....i'm imagining it was stubbed toe pain x a million (and everyone knows that's the worst pain there is Wink).

Me and DH are having a fun weekend of putting together a new dining table, chairs, cotbed and pram. My DH is the least practical person ever. Ever. The last time we did something like this we were putting together a coffee table - I managed to put it together while he put together a play list of music for us to listen to while we did it Confused. I can't imagine how me directing him is going to go - not well i fear...

Anyway - hope everyone is well...if not here is link showing an owl petting a dog. Enjoy Grin. link

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 10/12/2011 09:02

Parsley - we got a cat net, but it won't fit on the crib we have, so it's at my mum's to go over the cot there to protect against her cats... although the one that would get into a snuggly cot was the one that got run over last month :(

My boys are terrible, I keep finding them curled up in the crib looking all smug like "look at this lovely cat bed we found all ready for us" so we're trying to remember to shut the bedroom door against them... not sure they'll be so keen when there's a baby in it, mind, they're very suspicious of small people and that's without them having to make a noise, so a crying small person....

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 10/12/2011 09:03

Oh yeah - and I have a wedding to go to today and only just realised that not a single pair of my smart shoes fit. Just my trainers and the biker boots I bought during the pregnancy. I can;t turn up to my cousin' wedding in biker boots, can I?

Shit shit shit.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 10/12/2011 09:21

Morning girls.

what a feckin awful night sleep. DH went out, I was fine with that but then I simply couldn't get to sleep so i texted him at 1am and rang and couldn't get hold of him. His phone had dropped into limited service, he'd thought he'd texted me a few times but the message weren't getting sent so because i wasn't answering he assumed I was fast asleep. i wasn't i was pacing the house. He finally rolled in at 3am to find me up drinking brandy laced hot milk (i'd tried everything else i weighed up that a tot of brandy against missing 4 hours sleep and decided i'd give it a go) I was bloody furious because I hadn't realised he had been in trying to keep in touch. I kept thinking what If i'd gone into labour and he was just drunk and enjoying himself, of which i was jealous anyway, and had turned his phone off, so i cried and got mad. It wasn't his fault, really at all. I finally got hold of him via a friend he was with and as soon as he got the message he came straight home. He genuinely thought he had been in touch with me but all his texts were unsent.

He's out again next weekend and i have made him promise to take both his work and personal mobiles with him and text me with the landline of the houseparty where he is going to be. I do not want a repeat performance of that.

Thankfully dd didn't wake til 8am so at least i got a few hours.

Off for a haircut now

xxx

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 10/12/2011 09:24

Aww, poor fish

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 10/12/2011 09:32

I've never seen panther with a small person except when my step sister came to visit with new baby he tried to sit in the empty car seat On the plus side he completely ignored the baby Smile I think I need a net that will fit the crib and pram.

Hmm I tried bacon and eggs with whole meal bread this morning to see what it did to my sugar levels. The worst yetSad tomorrow I think I will have to try no carbs at all! It just doesn't feel right and is an anti-healthy eating plan.

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 10/12/2011 09:34

Aww poor fish - I hate that feeling. Once you've started down that track sleep just has no hope until they are home.

Mum2be79 · 10/12/2011 10:11

Morning!

I would like a new pair of lungs for Christmas. :( I'm fed up of my asthma and coughing.

Cat net was bought for those instances when i need to dash to the loo, make a cuppa, answer the phone/door etc, etc. Rascal has been our 'baby' for five years and loves the sitting room. I did wonder about shoving him out each time I went out of the room for a minute or two and then shutting the door, but at £4.99 for the net, I thought we'd all be happy. I don't think he likes the moses basket because it's on a rocker. So not overly worried. Rascal DOES like the car seat and pram though!!

DH is fixing the roof as I type. I'm still in my jim-jams with no intention of doing much today.

I think I had a leaky episode at 4am. Went to the loo and checked. Only about a tablespoon. I will keep an eye on it. Peanut is still very active.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 10/12/2011 13:10

I have short hair! Really short hair. This morning my hair was shoulder length, now it's cut into my neck. I loikes it :)

SantaSHO · 10/12/2011 13:32

cakes did you sort out your shoe situation on time?

m2b how's the toe?

Glad you managed some sleep after your horrible night fish

Done 2loads of washing, loaded the dish washer, took out the recycling and watched dd play in the snow. Now I'm in agony!! Was planning on folding the laundry but seriously doubt it now. Can't get comfy enough to sit long enough for my lunch Xmas Sad

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 10/12/2011 15:54

TMI alert.

I have had a pinky brownish streak of snotty stuff in my knicks-I think it's a show. Never had one with dd so never seen one before. Those of you who have would you say that it is?

Wormshuffler · 10/12/2011 16:10

It sounds showey but there was a lot more than a streak it was a handful very very slimey .

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 10/12/2011 16:16

I guess there was a teaspoon or so maybe. It looked like a big snotty sneeze tinged with blood (bork), not very very slimy-quite thick and goopy.

god this is gross i hate mucus of all kinds but I have no idea what this alien presence was in my knicks.

Dare i google images? I bet someone has photographed thiers.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 10/12/2011 16:20

ooooh. i googled. definately a show according to the pics.

I'm nervous now!

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 10/12/2011 16:23

I just went to my antenatal nhs class and that sounds like it could be from what they said. The lady behind me's mucus plug fell out last week - she's 29 weeks Shock she went into early labour afterwards but luckily it has stopped.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 10/12/2011 16:31

well i turn 37 weeks this week so it's all good I guess, and he's nice and big so i'm sure he'd be fine.

Theres distinct pressure in my downstrairs but thats been like that for a week.

Now or after christmas please young son of mine-NOT over christmas.

addictediam · 10/12/2011 16:44

Ooo fish definitely a show! Have you phoned, the may want to check you over as your 37weeks. We really could meet for the first time in hospital!

addicted how are you love? i was wondering-hows the cold?

I'm seeing MW on tuesday so i'll let her know but i'm not going to ring now. i doubt it will make any difference to the outcome if things do start now.

I'm sure everything is fine. I'm not even having any HB's or anything. Baby is active and moving noticeably.

I think this is just part of my plug-it was about a teaspoon of stringy gloop.
