hiya all, just checking in.

hurrah for turned babes.

Been all the way to cheltenham for my bra fitting lady who is my new best friend Honestly she was deliciously eccentric-oh my what a wonderful experience. The shop was a delicious glamour emporium, she specialises in all undies for for exceptional needs, she's a corsetiere, she works with transgender, masectomy and maternity. Plus she does costumes and wigs. I bought a fab feathered mask as well.
I'm £100 poorer but 5 bras richer, 3 everyday bras and 2 feeding bras. You may think she saw me coming but it's so hard to find bras in my size.

She also offered me a job-in all seriousness. She's looking for someone to work in this area doing wig fittings for cancer patients. In about 6 months time! You know what, I might even consider it. It would be a great work from home flexi hours job. who knows where this may lead.

I'm off to the dentist now have a good rest of day lovelies xxx

I don't know, 5 bras and a mask for £100 sounds like a bargain. My bras normally cost about £25-30

the job sounds like a great opportunity. yay you!

Cakes and FrillyMilly - sniffing obsession here too, Dh thinks I'm loopy but I started carrying a little knot of rubber bands around so I could discreetly sniff when needed. Dd's wellies in the car boot are also heavenly and I had trouble leaving Costco yesterday because the tyre shop is next to the cafe - utterly blissful smell. Dh wouldn't let me ask to borrow a clean tyre which is mean (I'd give it back to them unmolested, just well sniffed). Soap not my thing although filling the car is also very nice. I presume it's hormones and because my sense of smell is quite dull at the moment.
Parsley the dietician and diabetic consultant told me that breakfast is the hardest time of day to control, something to do with hormones (I'd never thought of insulin as a hormone susceptable to stress etc before this). The best after breakfast levels I had before Metformin kicked in, was sausage, bacon and eggs. Everyone thought it was the best medical recommendation they'd ever heard but I don't eat that at the best of times, and I managed a week of it before I was getting desperate (& bunged up). The dietician said that I could slow the absorption of carbs by adding fat, so porridge made with whole milk and topped with cream works for me (at the weekend) and in the week I enjoy sugar free muesli that contains nuts (neither our families have allergies/intolerance issues so I've risked it) with Jersey or creamy milk. Keeps me regular and is my favourite so I was hugely relieved to find a grease free fix. For snacks I have sugar-free oatcakes with butter and cheddar or maybe a plain scone with a scrape of low-sugar jam and a wodge of cream. Goodness knows what my arteries will be like after baby arrives, I've got used to this stuff very easily! I just need to keep the carb portion smallish, so loads of milk on cereal etc and the odd slice of toast dripping in butter. It feels weird but works and is under their supervision so I'm not worried any more. Hope that helps! Oh and fruit that needs chewing such as apples, satsumas, pears etc, not berries, wet fruit etc.
Poor Supa I'm scared stiff of a c-section too and have been told if delivery of my whopper child doesn't happen quickly enough I'll be wheeled off. Thoughts not conducive to dilating...

knittiekitty · 09/12/2011 13:57

Fish what a brilliant shopping trip, you obviously connected with her, job offer sounds really interesting too - lucky day! Sounds a good price to me too, comfort hard to find in the bra world.

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 09/12/2011 13:58

You've been busy while I've been out!

Saw a different MW plus same trainee today. Had my BP taken 6 times! The new MW had a machine instead of the old fashioned cuff and the first five readings were extraordinarily high - like 145/90. Finally they used the cuff and I got good old 130/70. I mentioned ankles but they didn't look, and mild headache which didn't seem to worry them. As usual, just told to go in if I get worse. Wish DH wasn't going away this weekend though Sad

In any case it's happy news as I'm booked for a visit to the MW unit at 8.30pm on Christmas eve!!! Grin that's my '36 week' appt....

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 09/12/2011 14:04

Did they take any blood? Did you ask them to test for pre eclampsia?

SantaSHO · 09/12/2011 14:16

That sounds like a very productive day fish well done!

ghost check that they noted your ankles in your notes, if they didnt, add it in yourself

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 09/12/2011 14:19

No blood, but they were obviously v concerned about pre-eclampsia as asked lots of questions re bump pain, flashing lights etc. I think the puffiness is just an escalation of my ordinary symptoms and the BP was the same as usual so I think it's fine. Will obvs keep an eye on things!

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 09/12/2011 14:40

Thanks Sho - they are great about notes and have never missed anything or made something up. My MW tends to be a bit rushed but they're at least thorough, which I'm grateful for!

If anyone wants a laugh go and read this thread I have to stop reading before I give birth.

OP posts:
rednosedreindeerhead · 09/12/2011 15:43

that thread is brilliant,. i was reading last night and had to stop, along with the one about the little boy called Ken, or who wasn't called Ken. that one put me in hysterics and my OH started getting worried about me...

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 09/12/2011 15:55

My Dyson animal just arrived! Looks like we've been living in filth for a while Blush - but I suspect most of what came up was wool from the carpet Grin. Have just vacuumed the whole house, while DH is cleaning kitchen and bathroom. Bet he's thrilled that he came home from work to spend some time with me before heading to New Jersey tomorrow...

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 09/12/2011 15:57

And before you say anything, I know I should be resting, but I have a problem, can't help myself...

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 09/12/2011 16:07

balls :-P

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 09/12/2011 18:09

Oh do I have some stories to add to that thread when i have time. I really do-my folks are nutters.

Oeisha · 09/12/2011 18:39

Loving that thread.
Currently trying not to "ruin Xmas" (my mental mother) allover again as my ankle's swollen...no pain, no twists etc and it's no the previously damaged one. I'm sure it's nowt, but I asked DH and he said, yes, it's def. swollen. Hmm WIll sit with my feeties up after packing for the weekend and dinner and see what happens.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 09/12/2011 18:43

Oh oiesha poor you-have you some arnica to take? thats pretty good for bruises and swelling.

Oeisha · 09/12/2011 18:48

Somewhere, I think. Def. got some in a tube I coudl try rubbing in?! Not that worried at it's only the 1 ankle.
Oh, and a TMI here, but I noticed it whilst DTD (or similar), only Abi was hiccuping, so it was all I could do to not giggle like a loon, poor DH...

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 09/12/2011 18:52

ooh on that note of magic creams. Slight TMI:

I discovered yesterday that nelsons hypercal ointment is very good for piles. One application and mine have gone right down.

Oeisha · 09/12/2011 20:09

Crikey! I have loads of hypercal! Will be giving that a go...

abeautifulbutterfly · 09/12/2011 20:29

Fish great news about the brafitter!

I have to get some feeding bras but need to wait to be paid first as am seriously broke. BUT I have all Xmas pressies for DDs and DH in the bag (never happened this early before). Also bought a very cute romper suit thing and a grobag for LO at knock-down prices. Lots of other baby clothes and stuff promised, but I wish people would hurry up and send them so I could see what else I need... Hosp bag v. near complete too...

Also had my 34 week appt today, everything is fine, except very slight water infection, so am taking stuff to clear that up. Also: have put NO weight on since last check-up 2 weeks ago so am taking that as the all-clear to carry on stuffing my face with marzipan (could this be a new miracle diet?? Xmas Grin)

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 09/12/2011 21:16

Thanks for the info knittiekitty I think I'm going to have the same issue - I had porridge with banana for breakfast this morning and the reading was the highest I've had so far :( Yet fish and chips and a Twirl last night was fine Confused I'm going to try bacon and eggs tomorrow morning to see what that does.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 09/12/2011 21:25

oiesha i discovered it by total accident really-had run out of anusol, the next tube i grabbed happened to be hypercal so I kind of thought ..nothing ventured.. and all that. Today my one big one has gone right down and it's a lot less irritated.

Mum2be79 · 09/12/2011 21:26

Went for my scan today.

Placenta has moved - 8cm away from my cervix so no c-section needed.

However, they want to see me again next Friday as my amniotic fluid is on the low side as is baby's growth (between 5th and 50th percentile). Still within normal range but the lower end. Fundal height was 35cm - I am 36 weeks and 5 days. I'm not concerned but I did say that in a morning my discharge is very watery so maybe I am leaking a little bit. At least I get to see Peanut again!!! Grin

Last night, the le creuset lid from my casserole dish was knocked off the aga by me pulling at my oven gloves. Smashed my pinky toe (God it bloody hurt!). I was completely speechless, crying, breathing techniques kicked in and shaking with shock! It was obvious that it was broken but decided to leave it until today to get it sorted as my local minor injuries was closed and the hospital is 40 mins away. Nurse took one look, nodded and said it was definitely broken. All she could do was strap it. I never knew how much you rely on your pinky! Turning over in bed is impossible without waking up in pain, especially when you're using a dreamgenii and have a huge tummy to manoevre.

Got 3 nursing bras today, a cat net, an insect net (we have several bee hives - it's for spring/summer), foam alphabet letters, a foam winnie-the-pooh clock - both for the bath - and another baby gym (for my mums house). I went to the retail park on the edge of York. We were supposed to go into York itself but with a broken toe, I didn't fancy my chances!!

Wind damage = 3 broken ridge tiles, 2 broken roof tiles (new roof), a glass pane from our cast iron (The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe) street light blown from it's frame, a huge branch of the willow tree blown a few feet to the side of the greenhouse, scaffolding blown over and various branch breaks of the other trees. Not bad considering what Scotland had to put up with!

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 09/12/2011 21:31

Good news on the placenta mum2be :) FX for the extra scan next week.
