Hopefully no one else has done it while my phone is messing about!

Poor mum2be you sound so fed up. I think waiting for Mat leave to start is like Christmas, when you keep going and then have a horrrendous cold start on Boxing Day (well it happens to me most years). I haven't taken cough syrup but don't generally find it helps when I'm chesty as I rely on my inhaler - would my usual poorly girl drink of lemon juice topped with hot water and a spoonful of honey be too acidic to try? A curry is good for colds, just remember to take bucket of gaviscon to bed tonight. Try for a nap this afternoon if you can too, to try and reclaim some of your lost sleep last night. Hope you feel better soon x.

Nanny01 · 03/12/2011 15:16

mum2be I have had those symptoms for many weeks now. I try not to eat late and get that coughing and burning feeling what ever I eat. Definatly sounds like acid reflux. There are things on prescription that may help like Ranitadine. I have had some success but ultimately I have not wanted to eat much this time as the reflux has been so bad. Ultimately now I have a few cushions and try not to roll on to my back. Sorry you are suffering it's horrible.

shonnomanom · 03/12/2011 15:54

I think Boots do a cough syrup thats 'safe' to use in pregnancy. Speak to a Boots pharamacist. hope your feeling better.

My cough has turned into a full on cold Sad. Luckily my parents had Dd last night as I was out for dinner. They called this morning to ask if they could take her through to my sisters for the day. So iv been a lady of leisure also Xmas Grin

Can I ask about Breastfeeding after a CSection please?
I attempted BF with dd after a VB but she wasnt interested at all and so was FF. But im wanting to try with this baby which is almost definately going to be a CS baby.
How practical/easy is it to BF with the scar and does anyone have any tips/advice?
DP assumed that it wasnt possible to BF after a CS [typical bloke]

Wormshuffler · 03/12/2011 16:41

I'm another CS gal shannon and I didn't BF dc's but am hoping to this time. I have been reading up on it and apparently you need to make sure they know your intentions and ask for skin to skin as soon as it's possible. Ideally while still in theatre presuming all is well with baby.
The thing that worries me about it is that both of my dc's were cs babies and were very mucusy because of not getting it squeezed out in the birth, and not at all hungry for the first day. I am concerned the midwifes will try to get us to bf by their schedule and that if baby isn't interested it will be a negative experience for us both. I have been looking up videos about "the baby crawl" where basically you just plock them on to you and they will eventually make their way over to the breast themselves when they want it!! Very impressive to watch but not sure how often it actually works when you are in hospital and the midwives have a tick sheet to abide by........

Wormshuffler · 03/12/2011 16:50

Make that "breast crawl" not baby crawl.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 03/12/2011 17:15

mum2b sounds like when i thought I had a chest infection following a cold (it wasn't it was just a lingering cough) and a reflux cough. DR said it was ok to use buttercup cough mixture but in the end gaviscon was better. Codiene can also help supress a cough too.

shonno I bf'd after my EMCS with dd-mostly laying down to feed was fine. It took 6 agonising days for my milk to come in and she had to have some formula top ups while in hospital.

One of my nipples did become cracked because stupidly I kept her latched onto a dry nipple all night one night in hospital-colostrum had gone but my milk wasn't yet there. Once the milk was in though it was a doddle and I was happily bf'ing in public after 2 weeks. But that did need to happen to establish a supply. Dehydration was the key-i'd lost so much blood and fluid and was so exhausted that i didn't start making milk until i'd had a good feed and water. My gran phoned me on my hospital bed phone and told me to get some cows milk in me. she breastfed 11 babies in her lifetime (wet nursed for a while) so I'm inclined to go with what she says on the matter. MW were telling me there was no correlation between drinking milk and making milk but after downing 2 pints my milk came in later that day.

I went onto to BF for 12 months but we did mix feed as well just a bedtime bottle each day and formula from time to time when I was out-I was shit at expressing.

Oeisha · 03/12/2011 17:59

m2b Honey. I asked the pharmacist and was told I could have glycerin cough mixture (errrggghhh) and opted for Manuka honey to ease the sore throat and cough. That and hot tea...hot hot tea (antiseptic qualitites). You can allow tea to cool a bit and then add the manuka. Or mix it into peppermint tea and help with the acid refulx/heartburn.

ILs helped out with stuff today. Nursery is now awaiting the cot essentially. Stuck all my stickery things on the wall, got new curtains hung and moved all the furniture about. Made plans for the tumble dryer...and the garage is considerably less full of shite cluttered. Super-relieved. There's now room for a million more bits of cardboard and wrapping from my JL delivery Monday! That and once the cot's up, basically, it's baby-ready. Just then need to hang this mobile *. Shame there's nothing in the drawers etc - just need to get washing and drying stuff now! (never been so excited to do some washing).

*is it me or are all mobile basically rubbish or not worth the money. I don't want a musical one, I don't want disney and I don't want it to be so large it'll give her nightmares...that's how I ended up with the elephants.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 03/12/2011 18:50

oiesha that mobile is VERY cute x

ParsleyLion1 · 03/12/2011 18:51

Doc told me honey also - but on the basis that nearly all cough medicine was useless and only a placebo anyway Xmas Hmm

GiraffeAHolic · 03/12/2011 19:25

TKMaxx Bargain Alert - I got a Close baby sling/carrier reduced from £65.99 to £18!!

Really chuffed and it feels much more secure than my wrap sling Smile

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 03/12/2011 19:26

Oooh-i s want one of those slings. I might pop to tackymax tomorrow then.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 03/12/2011 20:03

sausage ankles, very sore hands and arms. Feeling sorry for myself :(

Glad my mum and dad are coming tomorrow.

Love that LED mobile - very cool.

Anyone else getting pregnancy nausea returning? I couldn;t look a cooked tomato in the eye this evening and normally I love tomatoes...

Oeisha · 03/12/2011 20:17

Yup cakes Def. Smells especially. Have been putting it down to borderlien migraines, but today I got fairly nauseous without any sign of a headache.
Sounds terrible, but people's breath is getting to me at the moment Sad
Not sure what the common factor is at the moment, it's not like I can ask really, without causing questions to be asked and thus offence to be taken.

ParsleyLion1 · 03/12/2011 20:18

I have been cakes but just in the mornings.

ParsleyLion1 · 03/12/2011 20:19

And yes on the smells too. I keep smelling bo on the train. Ewww.

shonnomanom · 03/12/2011 21:09

Thanks for advice on bf and cs ladies

No nausea here but a distinct lack of appetite today. Have barely ate a thing and surprisingly couldn't finish my homemade lasagne tonight.

Dp put the new chest of drawers in our room tonight before heading out. As prearranged he dumped everything on the bed for me to fill the new drawers. Problem being it has just taking over 1+half hours to get dd to stay in her bloody bed and now I'm knackered and just want to curl up in front of the tv but can't as I have no where to sleep Sad

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 03/12/2011 21:57

Proud mummy moment. Tonight dd starting saying Round and round the garden like a spider bear, 1 step 2 step 3 step 4 step 5 step, 6 step, 7 step 8 step climbing in your hair.

She made it up on the spot and I thought it was very clever, bless her. And she worked out that spiders need to wear 4 pairs of tights to keep thier legs warm. Funny little daft bean she is. First timers, you have so much to look forward to, 4 is FUN! :)

Not sure why I had to share that bit of randomness with you :) Maybe i'm just as daft as her.

Oeisha · 04/12/2011 01:26

I think I'm being punished for going to bed early for once (was basically 'asleep' by 2200). Wicked-bad indigestion (keep bringing up little amounts of the smoothie I had), DH is snoring (and feeling poorly), and with the smell/breath thing I just want to cry as I'm feeling like an intollerent monster. I would try sleeping in the spare room, but it seems pointless to move me, all the meds and pillows etc next door, when I'm awake with the indigestion. So bloody tired (I specifically didn't nap yesterday and knackered myself out in the hopes that would keep me asleep - FAIL), and I've got stomach pains again - very mild, but still. Serves me right for adjusting the dose of lactulose the pharmacy just seemed to magic up out of nowhere rather than the one on the original bottle... Lord knows how the bloody hell I'd cope if I was still at work.

Abi's at least bashing me to let me know she's ok. Currently hiccuping. I was fairly convinced she was going transverse again, but I'm being bashed in the bladder by something large, so hopefully it's her head.

Oh gods, now the furubabies are chasing eachother.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 04/12/2011 02:54

Anyone there? Am waiting for call from out of hours GP and sent Dh back to bed while I waited.

addictediam · 04/12/2011 06:39

Cakes is everything ok?

OP posts:
Mulledbee · 04/12/2011 06:52

Seconded - hope everything's ok cakes.

ParsleyLion1 · 04/12/2011 07:01

cakes hope all is ok and you are asleep.

oeisha hope you also got back to sleep. I have a nighttime rule at the moment - if I'm not back to sleep in 10-15 mins then I move to the spare room. Otherwise I get distracted and bothered by snoring, uncomfiness and general irritations. The change in environment seems to work 90% of the time. The other 10% I can fidget without bothering OH.

greenlady78 · 04/12/2011 08:12

Good morning ladies,

Hope everyone is feeling more cheerful today! I have been having the most horrendous heartburn too...not fun at all!

cakes hope all is well, let us know!!!! Hugs!

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 04/12/2011 08:51

Hi all. Had to drive over to the hospital for protein in wee and BP checks. Pee was fine, BP a touch high for me, but still within the realms of the norm so we got sent home again. I still have a headache and feel sick and I'm still all puffy, but whatever it is, it ain't pre eclampsia, which is nice to know.

Thanks for asking. Guess I'm just going to have to take things easy and hope I improve Xmas Smile

addictediam · 04/12/2011 09:44

Ow ow ow.
I'm having regular contractions higgs bosons

I'm sure they will stop soon...ow ow ow
Its not like they have been getting stronger since last night Xmas Hmm
