Glad it went well Blue, are you starting to relax yet?

I've just used bicarb and baking powder - it fizzed a little bit with bicarb and LOTS with baking powder, which doesn't agree with what the scan suggested so who knows?! Xmas Hmm
Apparently (google) baking powder has bicarb in, but no idea what its supposed to be reacting to in the urine so still don't know - haven't found out before but was tempted this time, silly not to trust the scan I suppose!

yorky I think once I'm past the scan on 3rd Jan (19wks) then I will start to relax a bit more having actually 'seen' LO in there in more detail and hopefully starting to feel some movement then too.

Wrigglebum · 15/12/2011 20:31

Hi all, glad we've had some more successful scans and mw appointments with heartbeats Smile.

We had our scan today and all seems well. Baby seemed to be dozing as it was curled up really tight with a few little movements when prodded and poked. As a result we didn't get particularly good pics but it was great to see the baby. We got a really good long look and she explained it all really well. We took DS and he liked seeing the baby on the screen! We held out and didn't find out gender, not sure we would have been able to see it anyway baby was curled up so tight!

Also got the ok from the consultant for an ELCS, after my last birth I was advised not to have another natural delivery. I'm a bit scared but the risk of an EMCS would be pretty high if I tried a VB so I'd rather just have it all planned out.

luckynumber11 · 16/12/2011 00:01

Hi everyone, so glad to hear all the scans and mw appointments are going well.
I had my mw appt today (at 17 rather than 16 weeks). Blood pressure and blood tests all fine, didn't know I was supposed to bring urine sample so that's not checked, but most importantly, I got to hear baby's heartbeat. Bit of a relief as I hadn't felt much in the way of movements, so I did wonder if everything was still happening in there.
I am a bit concerned though... I mentioned I still didn't have a 20 wk scan date, and mw told me there's a major problem with fitting people in for scans as the hospital is so overbooked with pregnant women. It was bad enough last time i was pregnant, when I was left on my own, in labour, unchecked without pain relief, with no family member as they'd made them go home at 8pm, and I was then ignored till 3.30am. Then they found I was so far on I had to be rushed to a delivery ward and was too late to get an epidural etc. And that was when I was meant to be a high care case for monitoring as I was trying for a vbac after previous c section. Goodness knows what it will be like this time - mw says they need to get more beds/ wards to deal with the numbers but who knows if this will have happened by may?!
In the meantime the hospital are having an emergency meeting today to work out how they can get scans sorted out for the group of women like me that they haven't been able to fit in!!! Will i get one at all?! I think the overcrowding is worse because a neighbouring hospital has a seriously failing maternity unit according to inspections, so most of the women from there are coming to our hospital instead of their local one apparently. All a bit of worry, If resources are more stretched than last time I was in, that was bad enough!
But I am focussing on having heard the heartbeat, I seem to be on good health, must try to be positive!

Mikocat · 16/12/2011 16:50

Hello ladies, quick update to say that Fanjocam pt. 2 went so well that there is no need for future installments or cervical suture - wahey!

I'm not sure if I should be slightly concerned about the fact that I seem to have a miracle cervix that has stretched from 2.5 cm to 5cm in the last 4 weeks. Consultant said that if he had never scanned me before he would think that I had had no previous surgery to my cervix whatsover! He doesn't know how it's improved so drastically! I'm putting it down to a Christmas miracle :)

He also confirmed that LO is a girl when he very kindly did a quick scan of belly too while I was there.

ariane5 · 16/12/2011 19:41

had 20 week scan today, all is ok and baby def a boy !

LadyMaybe · 16/12/2011 21:23

Hi all,
Just thought I'd update the list with some of the scan dates/results that I could find skimming back through the thread. I've bound to have missed some off, please don't be offended I was trying to go fast. I had my anatomy scan on Tuesday which was ok, took a long time as baby was in an odd position and I have to go back to try to get some better shots of the heart. We decided against finding out the sex.
Yorky - so is it probably a girl? I can't work out from what you've said. Or if you don't want to say just confirm it's a surprise Grin Have added in some of the new joiners as well - oh and my date got changed, which is odd, they don't normally do that after the dating scan. openerofjars · 17/12/2011 17:30

Hi all, sorry not to post for ages.

Is anyone else getting palpitations and breathlessness? I am trying to find out my iron levels from the hospital it just wondering if I merely need to slow down a bit (crazy Xmas preparation).

Will be back after a catchup.

LimeFlower · 17/12/2011 20:18

Hello everybody,hope everything's fine:)

Managed to survive the party with some people from work(finished at 2 am).Declined all drink and fag offers with just one comment "you're fucking pregnant or what".
Being lazy-just washed the shower curtain with some clothes, packed most prezzies and cooked some meatballs to freeze.House is a tip and I don't feel like doing anything.

Bloody dog went through 3 packs of sauerkraut overnight, little b***d.My fault for leaving the bag on the floor, but how the heck I was supposed to know that stupid mutt would go for it?Thank goodness he just chewed the package and never ate any of it otherwise...shit and a fan springs to mind!

Going to MIL tomorrow,we're supposed to exchange the prezzies, trouble is I packed some stuff but haven't got a clue what else I got for her.Braindead, can't remember so packed some random things I found in the cupboards.I've got some fruit vodka I made for her, couldn't resist sticking my finger into it and licking it.Mmmm,booooze...

Bump still playing seek and find, not feeling any movements except farts.Still no sign of any letters from the hospital. As for Down results-the consultant said no news is good news so no worried about it but where the hell is my 20 wk scan appointment letter???

My jaws are in some overdrive,I'm munching constantly and still looking for more food.

Off to the kitchen ladies to get some dinner ready.Take care x

ariane5 · 19/12/2011 11:56

openerofjars-i was getting horrendous breathlessness/palpitations and kept falling asleep and it was all down to anaemia, two and a half weeks after starting iron tablets i feel nearly normal again just tiny bit tired and breathless.

before that i couldn't even get up the stairs or push the buggy to school but the difference is huge-only problem is the constipation the iron causes ! i seem to be having a lot of lactulose and it hasnt helped that much yet !!!

I had been taking 2 spatone sachets a day before i started the iron tablets but they just didnt seem to work for me which was a shame as they dont seem to cause the stomach ache/constipation that normal iron tablets do.

hope everybody else is well, i dont get much chance to post regularly as am so busy with dcs etc but as its the holidays now i have a bit more time on my hands !

saggybaps · 19/12/2011 22:40

Hello, we had our 20 wk scan today which was fabulous! Great to see the baby, the sonographer was so thorough talking us through everything & even flicked over to 3d which was quite freaky! It's really happening, I'm really pregnant! Merry Christmas!

bonbonpixie · 20/12/2011 00:17

openerofjars I woke up the other morning with palpitations, almost an irregular heartbeat. Called a friend who is a GP, apparently it can be fairly common during pregnancy esp if you are dehydrated or have low blood sugar. It can also be a sign of low potassium. Completely freaked me out at the time tho

Yorky · 20/12/2011 08:33

Wow, those palpitations sound scary, didn't realise they were so common - something else I need to try and cram into thius pregnancy so I've experienced it as fully as I can? hmm, maybe not Xmas Grin

Surrounded by non-sleeping snotty kids atm and wondering why I'm doing this again!

OP posts:
Mikocat · 20/12/2011 11:25

openerofjars - I had palpitations a few weeks ago, they seem to have stopped now. I got them most of all when lying down. Apparently all to do with 40% extra blood that's pumping round your body at the moment!

Mikocat · 20/12/2011 11:49

Another thing I forgot to mention earlier - my 20-week scan showed that my placenta was anterior, so that's why I can't feel her moving around so much at the moment. I still feel the odd thing, but am not so worried now about the lack of kicks! (I'm sure they'll be plenty to come when she starts to run out of room).

I bought some over-the-bump pants in the Mothercare sale yesterday, I nearly fainted when I got them out of the packet and saw the size of them! I don't think I can EVER let DH see me in them - and that's after all of the unglamourous things that he has witnessed so far this pregnancy!

Saw my grandmother at the weekend, she went on and on about how glad she is that I'm having a girl (she has always been horribly favouritist to the girls in the family, myself included), she annoyed me so much that I almost wish that I could change the baby's sex just to annoy her! How dare she suggest that if I was having a little boy it would be in some way inferior? Grrrrr! DH and I didn't care either way, we just wanted to know for practical reasons and so that we could think of the baby more as a person. Obviously I am slightly pleased that my intuition is right, but I wouldn't have been disappointed if it was a boy. Oooh it makes me mad! Xmas Angry

tostaky · 20/12/2011 13:25

oh miko - im sure she didnt mean that... of course a new healthy baby is what matters!!

anyone else feeling unreasonably emotional? anything will bring tears to my eyes ...

Mikocat · 20/12/2011 14:36

Tostaky - No she really is that horrible! :) Apparently she was with my Mum and my youngest brother waiting to hear back from me after the scan and she said to my Mum "I hope she's having a girl, I prefer girls, no offence Jack" (turning to my brother!).

I am SO emotional, everything makes me well up with tears, although I manage not to actualy cry most of the time. The most minor criticism at work makes me want to throw it all in and give up because they don't appreciate me.

openerofjars · 20/12/2011 17:59

Hi all, turns out the palpitations were prob my body trying to fight off tonsilitis and failing, so am just off to tuck myself up in bed with some Paracetamol and antibiotics. I had to be very insistent with OOH doc to get them (he tried to tell me that pg women shouldn't have antibiotics and to take ibuprofen) but have my drugs and will survive. DH is being just great and my stepmum and sister are going to muck in as well, bless them.

Miko, I cry at Xmas carols, adverts and DH being either nice or grumpy at the mo. Ah, hormones...

mythical · 20/12/2011 20:32

Hey everyone, someone was asking about palpitations, i have PSVT (diagnosed pre-pregnancy) so i am prone to them but since pregnancy they have been so frequent i have been signed off work since 17 weeks and will most likely be till 25 weeks and if they don't improve, until the start of mat leave.

Had my scan yesterday, we were happy to find out everything appears to be okay with the baby apart from the fact that he couldn't check the heart properly so we are going back for re-scan in a month - it wasn't a pleasant experience though, felt as if we were his last appt of the day and he just wanted to get through with it as soon as possible, we wanted to find out the sex but baby had legs crossed which is fine, my husband (as a joke) said "oh maybe you should walk around a bit perhaps it will move!" and the sonographer turned around to him and said "i'm not here to tell you the sex of the baby i'm here to check if everything is healthy, you can pay privately for that if you want to, everyone finds out at birth anyway" oh, really? the lady before us was asked to move around, walk, jump etc, and when he didn't get a clear view of the heart of our baby he just said come back in a month which is what left me a bit deflated, not the finding out of the sex bit.

mil (she was there as well) said she thinks he was awful to us so she offered to pay most of a 3d scan so we said yes please and we're having one tomorrow! we know the lady at the clinic - she is head midwife at the hospital and she will check everything thoroughly and take her time. it's £100 for a 20 minute 3d/4d video on a dvd, scan, gender scan, glossy pictures so we feel it's worth it.

mythical · 20/12/2011 20:33

Oh and same as Mikocat we don't mind what it is at all! but we have friends with babies just waiting to throw stuff at us lol and as we're not exactly swimming in cash it would be lovely and much appreciated!

cupcakefairy · 20/12/2011 20:48

Hi ladies
mythical that is so Shock about that sonographer. I do sometimes think they forget that these scans are special for each pregnant lady, even if they do see loads every day!

I had my 20 week scan today too, was lovely to see baby again. I especially love seeing the face close up, just makes it so real! Little lips and nostrils. Can't quite believe we'll be meeting that little person in 20 weeks' time. We didn't find out the flavour, so excited to find out at the birth Grin

Yorky so you're having a girl? Grin so exciting for your dd to get a sister, sisters are fab!

Must dash but will be lurking over Christmas, have a lovely time all!

tostaky · 20/12/2011 21:01

would it be unreasonable, given that i am pregnant and that DP is still at work, to eat a chocolate box that i am saving for when we exchange on the flat?????

i could always go and buy another one tomorrow (with DS2 in tow as he is ill....Hmm)

CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!

tostaky · 20/12/2011 21:02

ps: glad to hear everything went ok at the scan (health-wise) mythcal and cupcake Xmas Smile

mythical · 20/12/2011 21:11

buy another tomorrow! i had to give MIL (we're spending xmas at hers) the 2 boxes of celebrations i had as they were too tempting to keep at home!!

LadyMaybe · 21/12/2011 09:03

Oh arse...just wrote a nice long post and lost it by hitting 'back' by accident. Gah.
Anyway - just checking in to see the results of scans and looks like things are going well.

Sigh. Ok...going to get some gaviscon and get on with one of my christmas list tasks. Still things to do...sigh.
