I still haven't bought anything. Starting to wonder if I'm in denial!

My mum picked up some list from Mothercare of things you need for a new baby. It includes "Baggies". What the hell is a baggy/ baggie???

So far this baby has:
Some hand-me-down boys clothes
A changing matt (donated)
A microwave steriliser (donated)
A playmat (donated)
Some sleeping bags (donated)
1 dress (bought by my mum)

So I'm all set!!

I'm also getting paranoid that the big bruise/ varicose vein thing on my leg is some form of DVT. Will ask the midwife about it on Monday.

hermionejgranger · 11/11/2011 07:45

morning all...just checking in! welcome, bigeyes - nice to see you :)
Not quite sure where this week has gone - and it's now Friday already!

babyc sorry you're so uncomfortable...hope they can sort you something soon
Innocent unMN ((hugs))
monkey I feel your sinus pain...have you tried chocolate?
wicket booo to the vomiting again :(

sorry about the lack of other personals - I'm reading quickly before getting ready for work. Lovely to hear about all the maternity leave arrangements - I'm starting to wind down even though I still have 42 days left to work!

We're hopefully going to sort out all the furniture in the spare room today and move DH's "office/playroom" down to the conservatory so the spare room can be the nursery this weekend. Decorating will be in a couple of weekends. And if Mamas and Papas can get their act together the furniture should be delivered in early December. Woo-hoo!!!

26 weeks today Grin

deardear · 11/11/2011 08:51

Squiglettsmummy2bx · 11/11/2011 09:19

Hey all Grin
Cant do personals coz I'm on my phone & have the memory of a goldfish but just wanted to say hello x

Xavielli · 11/11/2011 09:23

I'm counting on getting a bit of money for Christmas and hitting the january sales to be able to get anything for this baby. There are lots of things that can wait til baby arrives and people tend to go a bit mad on buying baby clothes for you.

notcitrus · 11/11/2011 10:02

Back to work on Monday... have had horrible stomach bug this week, puking on Monday, and this morning I had the joy of ds bouncing on me at 6am. And my hips hurt - probably because I both dropped off and collected ds from nursery yesterday (used to be just over a 10 min walk to get there, now over 20). I'd better be careful this w/e.

Get well soon babyc, welcome bigeyes
Sugar I assume by baggies they mean those little disposable plastic bags that supermarkets have in the baby aisle, 100 for about 30p - invaluable for putting icky nappies in before the bin, or washables back into your bag when out.
Course Mothercare probably have a way more expensive version...

Time for nap - plan is to start stripping paint for new room this afternoon...

bmm39 · 11/11/2011 11:40

Marking my spot on the new thread. Having a baby girl due on 21/02/2012. TEAM PINK!! x

littlemonkeybix · 11/11/2011 12:47

Welcomebmm39 Smile

can I just add to the panic of HAVING NOTHING AT ALL!! Shock

So far we have a pram/snow suit for coming home, 3 sleepsuits, a bunny (couldn't resist) someone bought us another sleepsuit.... erm.... 2 little change mats, a breast pump, a room thermometer (all kindly nicked donated by my nursey friend) a 2nd hand £10 moses basket (for in my mum's)..... erm... that's it!

Still in the spare room... Still have a bath filled with rubble in our room (and a million boxes), still sleeping on a futon (great for getting up in the middle of the night... or indeed the morning... ) still have a baby room full of electronics, and a scabby hole in the wall.... and DP is concerned about getting the fence done

HOPEFULLY (please don'e anyone hold your breath!) this weekend, our room will have less in it. DP will be moving things to the loft... and cutting said rubble bath up.... yeah right! Me and mum will be pram shopping whilst he does this. The fear is setting in!!

On a happy note, one of the girls in work has just brought her 3 week old in for a visit... nice a plump and squishy, with a ton of hair, and lovely elvis curl of the lip at times Grin he's CUTE!

Sinuses... they are OK so far... Thanks for all your messages on that front... Vitamin C here we goooo!!!

PamBeesly · 11/11/2011 13:40

I seem to have lots (given as presents) I got a big box from sil in Holland today filled with beautiful baby clothes (her baby is 7 months now) lots of body suits, cardigans, vests, hats, so cute.
My mother has gotten: the cot, mattress and bumper, so many clothes, coming home from the hospital outfit and is paying for the buggy! (I'm so lucky) Its her first GC so its her PFBGC!
My aunt has a moses basket and box of clothes
My younger brother is buying a high chair
My best friend has a bath and lots of grobags
My other aunt has bought a car seat (the one you use after the infant seat) and lots of clothes.
Thats what we have already, its so much. I've also bought really cute outfits, baby grows, hats etc.
I was panicking about not having much...
Has anyone a tip for what washing powder/detergent to use for washing his clothes?

25 weeks today!

Had my 25 week midwife appointment today. All went well, measuring on track and heard his little heartbeat again Grin However forgot to pick up my Mat B1 form and my boss is getting a bit edgy! Twas a rather brief visit and didn't really want to ask some of my more stupid questions, any experts on here fancy indulging me?....

  • I'm having trouble remembering I have a bump and therefore misjudging what I can do! Is it harmful to bump into things/bend over too far? I do this at least once a day.
  • I tend to skip breakfast as I can never face food in the morning. If I have a busy day at work I often don't eat until about 1-2pm. Is this bad for baby? Does he get hungry too?

I feel better reading what you all have or haven't bought. I do think we've got plenty of time still and it will be good if we can get a few bargains in the sales :)

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 11/11/2011 15:32

We are NEVER going to name this baby! DH and I had a chat about names again last night, and we can't agree on ANY names! We both love DDs name, and it just feels so wrong to go for something that each of thinks is OK as a compromise. I can't see how we're going to get round this!

25+5

Xavielli · 11/11/2011 15:54

Coffeone - These things will hurt you a loooong time before they hurt the baby.

Wicketkeeper - don't get me started on names, I keep bursting into tears about it!

Babycarmen - I hope you feel better ASAP sounds really painful.

Having another really weepy day today, managed to lose a £20 note somewhere in town so have been to the pound shop for fish fingers. Ds1 has picked on dd and her friend at school today (normal sibling stuff but won't fave him doing it to other kids) so I've bellowed at him. Haven't managed to get any housework done today so DP is coming home to a shit heap and a kids dinner. I am failing all round at the moment

PamBeesly · 11/11/2011 16:10

WicketKeeper same here, I'm more nervous about what to name him than about the labour and birth!

BabyCarmen hope you aren't in pain today!

littlemonkeybix · 11/11/2011 17:01

Pip had 1st hiccups (that I noticed) during a phone conference today... There were 4 of us in the room (several more on the pod phone), so I passed a note round Smile we were all smiley then... in our room anyway heeheehee!

Just a quicky Wink

phlossie · 11/11/2011 17:20

I know what you mean, wicket - we love the name Rufus so much it's hard to find a boy's name that we like as much.

You're ok, coffee. Babies are like leeches - they are very good at living off us! It won't go hungry, and it won't get hurt by a few bumps and knocks - don't worry. I'm fairly sure I squish mine when I'm asleep.

I need a nappy changing roll thing to go in my bag (I have a nice new bag rather than a proper changing bag) and nappies and maybe a few more clothes, but I'm going to wait until the sales. Oh and a car! We can't get all three car seats across the back seat of ours.

For those buying a high chair, I really recommend the Ikea Antilop. It's cheap, wipes clean easily (without any annoying cracks where food can get stuck, comfy for baby and you can get a tray for it or pull it up to the table. My babies were happier eating at the table with us rather than being slightly away from it.

Bad luck about the £20 note,, Xavielli - that's very annoying. I broke off my wing mirror the other day by being careless and it cost £40 to fix (I was lucky it wasn't more) and it put me in a really bad mood.

Weekend! Whoop!

melliebobs · 11/11/2011 17:21

Sweet lord I wish pip would bloomin move somewhere else. Had a poo nights sleep Cos it feels like it's stomping on the trapdoor! half expect to see a lil foot poking out!

Been getting inventive in the kitchen today. Made some cherry cola cupcakes. Sent dh a photo n he asked if I'd bought it. Cheeky swine!

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 11/11/2011 17:42

Totally agree with Phlossie - the Antilop is The Best Thing Ever! One of my absolute best baby purchases! And it's only about a tenner! Bargainaceous!

CoffeeOne · 11/11/2011 18:27

thanks for the calm words of advice Xav and phlossie, it's difficult not to go batshit mental with overthinking!

monkey how cute! hiccups! I haven't felt them yet. I have however felt him being a little kicker in my ribcage and low down in my bits like mellie. I'm so calling it a trapdoor from now on haha.

notcitrus · 11/11/2011 18:54

littlemonkey - it'll be fine. We ended up having no roof for 4 months after ds was born (and he was born in Sept so it got cold...) and he was totally oblivious to all the rubble and angle-grinding and builders around. At least this time dc2 can be in my room whether I'm in the new larger room or not.

pambeesly - they say use non-bio on baby stuff in case of reaction to the enzymes. I stocked up on Persil (tended to be on offer and vouchers in those hospital mags) but recently I've found Lidl's award-winning liquid works very well even if I don't like the smell so much. Will do for nappies!

Top tip: for moses basket sheets, use pillowcases!

PDog · 11/11/2011 19:03

Evening all

We still have everything from DD but it is all packed away in the garage still. Have managed to clear a wardrobe but still need to paint spare room, put dd's bed together, get a matress and bedding for it, get rid of sofa bed and move dd's clothes before we can move her in and get stuff ready for new baby. Also need to get tandem pram. I'm not panicking just yet - will get it done over Christmas.

We have same situation wicket. We have lists for both genders but nothing that we both love. We do have compromise names though so DH will be happy if it is a girl and me if it is a boy (I love the boys name (Reuben) but am a bit meh about the girls name (Genevieve)).

Another advocate of the antilop here - best thing we bought and it only cost £15. Fits in dishwasher too, which is a bonus.

This week I have mostly been weeing myself Blush. Bad cough and lack of pelvic floor = tena lady on shopping list. Must do my exercises. Also came home to a £60 parking fine from parking at a hotel at a work function Angry.
