Feel like I not been here for ages! Gettin a bit scarily close now! I am very unprepares and haven't really got anything major yet!

Just had 31 week mw appt bump is measuring 2cm over so bubba gotta slow down I don't fancy the 10lb 10oz like poor girl on obem last night! Trace of protein in urine too but not overly concerned as is first time.

buterflies · 07/01/2012 18:02

I went to my first ante natal class run by NCT today. I really enjoyed it and found out loads of stuff I didnt know despite this being my second baby. Pleased to say it isnt all breathing exercises, although she did touch on relaxation methods.

Would recommend NCT if you have the budget ( I was lucky to get reduced fee as currently on IS)
I now feel much more prepared for labour, really hoping this one is a lot more natural than my lil boys birth- induced, pethidine, epidural etc.
Getting really excited now 30wk and 1 day woo

Saj30 · 07/01/2012 21:44

Hello lovely ladies, havent been able to post for a while, new job (love it btw) my dad's been diagnosed with prostate cancer :( but it looks like it can be managed hopefully. Well I am now 28 weeks pregnant, have chosen a pram and cot but am I too soon to be packing a bag for the hospital? Dh seems to think so... Help??v

babydust27 · 08/01/2012 12:18

Sorry to hear the news about your dad saj30, and i dont think its early to pack your bag. I did mine about 25 weeks and have repacked about 5 times already!! Id rather have everything all sorted and know its all there just incase as i can only imagine what DP would pack for me if we had an early arrival!

Im 32 +3 today, only 15 work days left to go! Hoping that my little peanut doesnt arrive early as due on 1st march and for the last 2 weeks in feb my mums working away but for all of march she will be working from home, a very handy 5 miles away!

I have to start writing my birth plan this week as my midwife is coming to our house next week to talk to DP & I about it. So far i have to tell them about my knee (cant bend it much due to op 2 yrs ago), i want DP to tell me the sex of the baby, if in slow labour id prefer to be admitted to the ward rather then sent home as its an hours journey each way and you never know! Has anyone else started their plan yet?

Saj30 · 08/01/2012 12:56

I have been on that many forums about what to pack and still am not sure, also what to buy for baby for the 1st week?? its a complete minefield and needless to say i am feeling very overwhelmed by it all Confused

I spent 10 mins explaining what breast pads and maternity pads were to DH so yes babydust I think my DH wouldn't be very much helping packing if I went into labour early, luck you though to have your mum so close, mine lives 99 miles away

babydust27 · 08/01/2012 14:29

Have a look on the nhs website for the hospital you are going to. they will have a list of things as some hospitals provide nappies and other bits and some don't.

if it helps I've packed 3 packs of thick maternity pads, 1 pack of breast pads, 3 dark nightdresses, 2 pairs of joggers that i can wear as trousers or with nightdresses, 10 pairs of granny style cotton pants, 2 bras, jeans, 2 day tops, slippers, light weight dressing gown, wash bag with travel size bottles, lipbalm, haribo, lucozade, & phone charger. for the baby I've got a pack of wipes, 12 nappies, a little teddy, 4 muslin, 2 hats, 2 pairs of socks, scratch mits, 3 short sleeved body suits/vests, 3 long sleeved body suits, a wool cardigan & a small blanket.

A friend gave me a great tip which was to take a separate wash bag and pack it with 3 maternity pads, change of underwear, small pack of moist tissue paper & couple of breast pads she said it saved her digging these things out if she needed to quickly change her pad or had people visiting her when on the ward.

CheeseandGherkins · 08/01/2012 15:54

Been having lots of braxton hicks again, no idea which way she's lying now as I'm feeling movements all over the place. 4d scan tomorrow so we shall see :) Back to mdau Tuesday for a ctg and possibly bloods again to check my iron levels and maybe PE as well as I've been having a few headaches and flashing lights on and off, little bit of swelling but nothing too bad and bp is over my normal but not high.

Lilpud yes it will hurt but it won't matter afterwards! It didn't to me at least.

buterflies glad you enjoyed the class, definitely skipping them myself it being the 5th time for me! I do a lot of reading up too but this time for me isn't going to be very natural but that's necessary so I don't mind, all I care about is baby being healthy. I did plan on a homebirth last time but obviously didn't end up with that...

saj sorry to hear about your dad :( Nope not too early to pack bags, you never know and it's good to be prepared.

babydust not doing a plan myself, I'll discuss what I want/don't want personally (and dh knows already too for if I can't speak) as the midwives don't always have the time to read through them I've found. My choices are limited too!

CheeseandGherkins · 08/01/2012 15:55

babydust you may want to add a snowsuit for baby as it's likely to be freezing still by the time we all have our babies! :)

Saj30 · 09/01/2012 12:02

Has eveyone started antenatal classes, my midwife gave me a number for pregnancy yoga but thats it.

I'm due on the 27th of March, should something be sorted out by now, and if so how??!?! Confused

LilPud · 09/01/2012 13:53

Buteflies your class sounds a whole lot better than mine, that was basically how much pain there would be (which I'd pretty much guessed) and that we will definatley poo (nice) there was no relaxation techniques or breathing exercises or hints and tips for partners. Was pretty disappointed really. This week dads are'nt required as it's all about feeding (don't dads feed??) NHS cutbacks clearly. MW did also say that bags should be packed now and notes should be in the bag. I don't even have stuff to put in my bag yet!

Saj30 most people at the class were further along than me - due from end of Feb to start of March - so no worries just yet.

Saj30 · 09/01/2012 15:05

thanks LilPud, my local maternity unit is closing one month before my due date, midwife hasn't told me anything about where I could give birth, what my choices are, to be fair she has been off sick since my booking in appointment and at the last appointment asked me the same few questions no less then 4 times!!

So I have no idea what to do, I've tried asking people but they all have given birth at the local hospital, I'm feeling really stressed

ILoveMyDragon · 09/01/2012 17:35

OMG Saj I would be in a complete state of panic with no-one telling me what was going on!! I am due 9th March and my first NHS antenatal class is not till 31st jan which I thought was pretty late? I start pregnancy yoga tonight so we shall see how we get on with that!!

Wow I have been stressing about what baby needs not really considered what I need in my bag - quite a lot it seems (figures really when you think about it!) I've ordered an overnight/changing bag which I was hoping to use as a hospital bag but it hasn't turned up yet and I am beginning to stress about it.

Ordered my pushchair today which is exciting makes it a bit real now!! Hopefully pick the cot up from my mums this week so I can finally sort the nursery out!!

Hope everyone is well and aren't OD-in on the gaviscon!!

31+3

buterflies · 09/01/2012 19:44

I havent started packing my bag yet but not too worried.

Am going to have two separate bags, one for baby and one for me.
Baby's is easy, nappies, wipes, couple of vests and baby grows, hat and a cardi
Mine will have a few bits more but am guaranteed to forget something lol. Have been training the fella on what breast pads are etc so hopefully if I forget something he will know what to get.

CheeseandGherkins · 09/01/2012 19:55

I'm mostly packed now, have everything I need though I think!

Had a 4d scan today and it was really amazing, got some lovely photos of our little girl :o Really pleased with them. She's definitely head down too which is great, hoping she stays that way.

Going in tomorrow for a ctg which will hopefully go well and maybe bloods again as my iron was 8.5, getting close now! 30+2 but only going to about 36 weeks.

knitterati · 10/01/2012 09:17

Ooo! Need to get organised and get bag ready - even though I'm hoping for a homebirth.
Does anyone have a good link as to what needs packing in said bag?

NotFromConcentrate · 10/01/2012 22:36

Evening!

Knit we should see if we can come up with a list between us (an actual realistic one, as opposed to s

NotFromConcentrate · 10/01/2012 22:45

Oh bloody hell, this phone is a nightmare!

As I was saying, we could try putting together our own list between us, some of the prewritten ones I've seen have been slightly unrealistic!

My first, and most important, contribution would be Dettol wipes! My bag isn't exactly packed, but everything I need for me has been chucked in the bag just in case, thanks to my little monkey misbehaving!

Am really annoyed at the various errors in my notes, and the blatant lies! One midwife wrote "temp 36.4, unable to pass urine for specimen"... She neither took my temp nor asked if I could wee! With a history of pre-eclampsia, that annoyed me. There are various other minor errors, but the totally made up stuff annoyed me.

Anyway, as I said on FB I am delighted to be joining team pink! I'm surprised at how pleased I am, but I think it's more the excitement of actually finally knowing!

Both boys at school/nursery tomorrow so looking forward to catching up on this thread with a cuppa :)

LilPud · 11/01/2012 11:36

Really must join the FB group. When I do I'll be LH.

For the hospital bag I have basically just written down what babydust posted and added cheese's suggestion of a snowsuit - can't trust the weather, ever! I'm hoping for homebirth so hopefully won't need the bags at all but you never know so gotta be prepared.

I think (but don't quote me on it as PGP is killing me) we're sorting the baby's room this weekend - 10 weeks to go!!!

Saj that's not good about your midwife unit and worse that they haven't discussed otions with you. One minute they push for non-medical and the next they shut down your options! It makes no sense.

buterflies · 12/01/2012 13:01

I have gestational diabetes and have started a thread asking for some advice, so if anyone has any advice could you pop it on the other thread titled gestational diabetes

buterflies · 12/01/2012 13:03

Sorry titled Gestational Diabetes. Realistic targets and side effects of medications
Thanks

CheeseandGherkins · 12/01/2012 13:44

buterflies I have GD and have been on insulin since 13 weeks, I'm not taking metformin. No side effects of insulin for me at all. I'll take a look for your other thread.

Going to make one myself actually as my iron levels have dropped to 7.7 and the consultant wants me in tomorrow to discuss iron transfusions :(

Strix · 14/01/2012 20:25

Oh, cheese! You are pregnant. That is absolutely
Lovely!!! So very very pleased for you.

Hope you remember me from dec 2010 thread.

I will put you and that luck baby in my prayers for a safe delivery. :-)

I hope you don't mind the intrusion (and the sappy post). But your sad news last year broke my heart God knows what it did to yours and I have thought of you many times since.

edney17 · 15/01/2012 12:26
