Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Gah lost my reply - no def didn't think that biscuitsandtea sorry if it sounded that way - rubbish day at work

I've had extra mw appts to keep an eye on bp and wee so have heard nipper's heartbeat every 2 since 16 weeks which has been really reassuring. If your mw is nice perhaps that is an option to bridge the long wait?

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 28/09/2011 19:24

Scarlet, yay for your scan too! Sounds like another happy little wriggly beastie!

pommedechocolat · 28/09/2011 19:25

too and scarlet - yay, yay, yay such good news!

Wants3 · 28/09/2011 19:26

I love the idea of a count the kicks braceletbiscuits where from?. I told a couple of the girls I work with today as I was feeling particularly sick and tired this morning. They are sooo excited for me and are going to make sure I get looked after while I am working! I am going to try and and book in with a midwife tomorrow.

scarletfingernail · 28/09/2011 19:45

Fantastic news Dumbledore I am so happy and excited for you! So pleased we both had lovely scans today and yes it seems we both have energetic little ones.

Love the idea of a count the kicks bracelet. Like you Biscuits I was blissfully naive with DS and feel the need to be more vigilant this time. Where have you ordered it from?

Biscuitsandtea · 28/09/2011 20:02

Plenty of info on Count the Kicks here and you can link through to their online shop. Think it was £4.50 or £5 inc p&p. And there is other info about how to monitor it all (although I just skim read and it said best to sit and monitor for an hour - erm, I have a toddler?)

And too yay yay yay for the scan! (would have said that first but on phone and had to post the link before I lost it Blush). Sorry you had to be there such a long time but so glad all is well, and you've skipped forward a week too which is good xx

I found the midwife who kept asking me ' are you feeling 10 kicks a day?' Really infuriating. Dd was super active in the womb and if I'd only felt 10 I would have been having a check up. Her one rule fits all approach drove me wild.

meme request a consultant change. My friend had a 10lb 2 first baby, laboured forever then had emcs. Her second was well over a lb lighter, vbac and she said it felt so much better recovering from that. You could consider it... But i'd still want a different consultant and second opinion.

Biscuits, me too, cons led due to third degree tear. I think the kicks and heartbeat are just as reassuring. Particularly heartbeat.

too wonderful scan news, and you gained a week, Hurrah!

Biscuitsandtea · 28/09/2011 20:41

I think you're probably right about the 'one size fits all' thing Dream - I think this count the kicks thing advocates learning your baby's patterns etc? Is that right? I guess 10 would be a bare minimum and if you weren't getting that many then you should be checked, even then it might be 'normal' for you but still worth checking?

I just can't remember thinking about it too much - I'm sure I was probably aware at the time but can't recall thinking about it a lot. And I'm worried that with ds I might forget to count as much if I'm getting distracted!

Hey ladies, just popping my head round the door to say a big congrats on the scans to Scarlet and Too!

musicalmrs · 28/09/2011 22:05

Yay, congratulations on fab scans Too and Scarlet!

Day of madness today, including teaching, deadlines and a concert. Felt rubbish most of the day, only picking up when I decided to swap my boring lunch from home (soggy tuna pitta) to a Upper Crust baguette! I wonder if eating lots made me feel so much better? Doesn't bode well if so..!

Biscuits, the bracelets are such a good idea. I may well obtain one should everything go to plan!

I had all the maternity literature through from my main employer (the only one that knows I'm pregnant, and only because of the hospital trips on work days!). Can't help but think that it might be jinxing it a bit!

meme, you should definitely ask for a second opinion. I think you're perfectly entitled to one if you're not entirely happy with the first one? Can't hurt to ask and see anyway!

dreamfeeder · 28/09/2011 22:27

biscuits, I was definitely aware of dd moving constantly with never more than a 5 or 10 min break. I think it doesn't matter about how many movements but you will be aware of your baby's patterns and will just notice any difference. My friend with a 22 month age gap between hers turned up for reduced foetal movements she'd just become aware aware of. Everything was fine. Anyway, I did once count for an hour and was up to 30 something. No way I could do that with dd...

Musical, dont worry, the needing to eat everything in sight comes and goes. I worried about becoming the size of a house last time as I wad eating way more than usual, and not just in last trimester, the only time you're meant to need any extra calories (and its a measly 200 or 300 anyway) and it was fine, I clearly needed them!! Just enjoy it when you can. And at least you feel pg!

pommedechocolat · 29/09/2011 08:30

I never understood whether it was 10 individual movements or 10 'sets' of movements. DD used to have very active half hours followed by hours of sleeping.

DD was up all night with croup so am shattered and about to start the trying to get a doctor's app process - yuk!

Meme - have a strop and stamp your feet after informing yourself of your rights. You definitely have a right to be listened to.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/09/2011 08:33

Good point pomme I don't really know that either Confused

Hope your DD is feeling better soon xx

Purplebuns · 29/09/2011 08:43

I think any change in patterns as you know it, should be investigated, I think the count 10 is ten kicks and is really to make mums aware of baby a bit more. That was my interpretation and I am sure when I asked MW it was 10 movements not sets.

One of my friends had their baby last night and I got the birth announcement by text this morning. It has made me think I might actually have a baby myself! It still hasn't sunk in yet but I will be 17 weeks tomorrow so I think it should be a reality? Shock
So excited now!

Purplebuns · 29/09/2011 08:44

Oh and Pomme good luck getting an appointment and I hope DD gets better :)

mememummy · 29/09/2011 09:54

Feeling much more positive today about VBAC going to go to preggy yoga, aquanatal and try hypnobirthing going to aim for the optimum position for baby and TRY if this is last baby at least i can say i tried :)

GTT = Glucose tolerence test, to see if i am secretly diabetic and thats why i have huge babies

Purplebuns · 29/09/2011 10:12

'Secretly' diabetic lol (Big babies and diabetes not so much)

I am sure you can do it and if you prepare as much as that, you have a fighting chance :)

Wants3 · 29/09/2011 10:45

Just phoned the surgery to enquire about the procedure for booking in with a midwife. The receptionist sounded really surprised when I said I hadn't seen anyone yet! I am booked in for a double appointment with a doctor next Thursday morning! Finally something a bit more definite to count down to!

dreamfeeder · 29/09/2011 16:26

My midwife was definitely asking about 10 kicks, not 10 different sets of movements. Way under what dd ever did, but I ended up just saying yes every time despite the pointlessness.

Your poor dd purple, croup must be so frightening. Hope you got an appt and she's feeling better. and yes, I think you're having a baby!!

My new phone has died. The car couldn't be sorted. I've got myself in a flustered about bad things happening in three's and my scan will be bad news...

jaggythistle · 29/09/2011 16:37

Eek dream don't you be getting in a fluster please. Seeing as there is no finite time limit on the bad things in threes, you could count as many as you want and therefore it is a load of pants

Yay wants hope Thursday comes round soon.

pomme hope DD is better soon :( sounds awful.

Glad scan was good scarlet :) I could have phoned the midwife back but I am shy and felt daft so will wait patiently for Sunday!

Glad you are feeling positive meme.

FX for scan on Monday musical.

I should really go and have a nap before DS wakes up but I am messing around on the PC instead. Blush Finished work early today and have come home, eaten ice cream and sat on my bum Blush

dreamfeeder · 29/09/2011 18:34

jaggy, I have also been failing to realise my good intentions about jobs etc. Apart from the day DD slept in her pushchair, stationary (!!!!!!) and I put the slow cooker on, vacuumed the entire downstairs, hung out the washing, etc etc, was just about to sit down and she woke up. I was so tired that day that I think the ice-cream/bum/pc option is the right choice!

meme hypnobirthing is meant to be fantastic. I did a similar thing for DD ( a positive visulaisation, relaxation, techniques etc thing) and went from being so terrified I'd have jumped at an ELCS in delight, was hoping for a breech baby etc etc to being totally determined to have a natural delivery. I really recommend it.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/09/2011 19:10

Dream don't be a dafty! Bad things don't come in 3's and I'm brooking no argument about your scan. If you're insistent about your bad things coming in 3's then think back to the last bad thing before these 2 and there's your 3!

was it just a thing you did at home for the positive visualization dream?

dreamfeeder · 29/09/2011 21:05

yes, a cd and booklet. they're specific for home birth or hospital birth or VBAC i think. The brand I had anyway. An hour a day, not to be done when you'd normally be going to sleep (ie right before bed- i had to do it then a fair bit though!!) Every day from 30 weeks, or as often as poss.

jaggythistle · 29/09/2011 21:15

thanks dream. what brand were yours if you don't mind me being more nosey? :)

away for an early night, will maybe Google tomorrow...

night night all. Grin
