Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Good luck for tom Too and Scarlet! not that you'll need it of course, considering all the No Brooking that will be taking place on your behalf tom! I will certainly be adding my No Brooking to the cause!

I'm just off to bed after a lovely anniversary. We stayed in for the first anniversary ever! (Couldn't bring myself to waste an expensive meal by bringing it up in a posh toilet somewhere far from home!) So it had the potential to be a boring night, but instead it was wonderful. We cooked steak, I baked a choc fudge cake, and we spent a cosy eve playing mario kart wii (I won!) and connect 4 (DH won). Best of all we didn't argue once! It was just a lovely break from all the stressing and worrying we've had recently. I'm convinced it's because I was so relaxed that I've actually kept my dinner down for the first time in about a week!

Goodnight ladies! Hope you've all had lovely days as well.

Biscuitsandtea · 28/09/2011 07:30

Good luck scanees! Smile

Best of luck, Too and Scarlet!

hawthers · 28/09/2011 08:48

Good luck for the scans today. Breath deeply and try to keep calm (if only so your blood pressure doesn't rocket up due to stress and then they whack you on the hypertension watch list!)

duke748 · 28/09/2011 09:00

Good luck for today scan-ladies. Grin

It will be amazing to see your babies!

jaggythistle · 28/09/2011 09:10

Good luck for scans today! Exciting stuff :) :)

Do you ever hang up the phone and wish you'd asked something else? I had a 'D'oh' moment there.

After chasing up my lack of scan apointment on Monday (after a month as advised by the MW) I had been told to call the hospital at the end of the week if it hadn't arrived.

Then yesterday I got a message on my voice mail to call the community midwives, as they had my appointment and wanted to arrange to collect my notes that I'd been given to fill in. So I called back just there and she is coming round on Sunday - but I forgot to ask if she could tell me when the appointment is FFS! Now I have to wait till Sunday. Muppet.

musicalmrs · 28/09/2011 09:12

Good luck Too and scarlet. No brooking that all goes wonderfully!

Too, my scan is on Monday. Counting down the days - well, the working days at least..

Dream, thanks for the reassurance. I was good at staying positive last week, but the perpetual spotting/bleeding is getting to me now! Just have to sit tight and cross fingers...

Purplebuns · 28/09/2011 09:35

Ooh scans today, how exciting I know we will be handing out these Thanks Thanks (How nice are they?)

Just a quick post, I am going to Drs this am as I can't cope with my back, and work so hoping I will be signed off, I have never been signed off before so no idea how it works or if the Dr will say no?

I will catch up with the thread later :)

jaggythistle · 28/09/2011 09:38

Hope you get on ok Purple - glad you are looking after yourself and getting a break when you need it. :)

dreamfeeder · 28/09/2011 12:34

Hope you get signed off purple, my friend got herself signed off from 24 weeks for the rest of her pregnancy with varicose veins in her fanjo maing walking painful. No joke. Yet she often walked into town with me.... Reckon theere won't be a problem, I think it's more of an issue if you want signing off an the gp thinks you're intending to become a permanent work-shy doler.. Pregnant ladies are a finite sick letter, much easier, and hopefully your back will be much better without the relaxin and pregnancy stressed post baby.

So I took my car to the garage this morning. DD had me up every 10 min from 11:30 (when I still hadn't got to sleep) til 1am so was a major effort to get up, ready and out to garage for 8:30. The whole purpose was to get the front air bag turned off, so she can try her new Two Way Elite RF on the front passenger seat as her BeSafe isn't reclined enough for her to sleep without head loll that wakes her up in it (TWE will be way better in that respect). As an aside I asked them to fix the fuse in the cigarette lighter. They said they'd need half an hour but have had the car ALL MORNING and have just rung to say they can't turn the airbag off but the lighter things done, collect it. WTF?!?! I'm so cross. SO CROSS. Should have made even more effort an taken it to the bloody Ford dealership in the bloody first place.

Rant over.

I have not been sick so far today. This is news worthy of sharing. A week tomorrow til my scan. I might have to start a countdown.

dreamfeeder · 28/09/2011 12:35

oh... check out all my spelling mistakes- that's making walking more difficult, pregnancy stresses not stressed, etc etc

Purplebuns · 28/09/2011 12:48

I have been signed off for a month! I feel so relieved. Also, don't feel like I am being such a wuss. However, Dr thinks the physio will only help a bit and I will have back pain for the rest of my pregnancy. Oh and did I mention I have the beginnings of SPD?

Dream a bit Hmm they haven't done what you went in for in the first place. Will you be able to have kip when DD naps?
Great news on not being sick!

Ooh I can't wait to hear the news about the scans.

hawthers · 28/09/2011 14:00
scarletfingernail · 28/09/2011 14:30

Scan update alert.

Phew. All is fine and what a difference 2 weeks has made. My bean has doubled in size and also now has arms and legs! He was wriggling about and kicking his legs. (Which are apparently long in proportion to the rest of him, exactly like DH and DS!)
I have to say it was the best scan experience I have ever had. The sonographer was super nice and let us look at the him bopping about for ages.

EPU have now discharged me so fingers crossed I will never have to go there again. Feeling much much happier now and think we might start telling people at the weekend. Thanks all for the brooking, all this positivity really helps Smile

2 weeks today until my 12 week scan.

Dumbledore I hope you've had a lovely scan too. Can't wait for your update.

Purple I'm so pleased for you and your month off work. You'll have to join me watching The Real Houswives of New York and other daytime tv delights.

jaggy can you ring them again and ask about your scan?

dream Angry about your car.

hawthers · 28/09/2011 14:40

hurrah - great brooking clearly Smile

hope too is equally reassured. let us know if you need a pep talk in the time between scans. have also been on a long wait from 22 to 28 (which is this friday) so can appreciate how it feels!

dreamfeeder · 28/09/2011 14:54

It's not the garage, its the car. Ford focus. If anyone was ever tempted, don't be- you need an (expensive) adaptor kit for everything. Isofix? Oh yes, the kit is £ 77.50. Turn the passenger airbag off? Oh yes, but you need an adaptor kit... They can turn the lot off but that activates the warning light system on the dashboard which is an MOT fail from Jan so no point. Sigh.

Hurrah for your fabulous scan scarlet and you won't need it from 12-20 weeks as you'll just watch your bump grow Grin I'm so showing already. Though still not at my normal weight. I hope I'm slightly further on than I thought or its very bad... I hardly showed before 20 weeks last time. Worried its because I've only been eating rubbish and its actually just me getting fat!

dreamfeeder · 28/09/2011 14:57

And good news purple I reckon that's you off from now on. My friend was signed off for between 2 and 4 weeks every time and was always worried she'd get signed back on!! She didn't, and with back pain i can't see how you will be!! Hurray!

mememummy · 28/09/2011 15:11

Hi ladies :D

so... went to see the consultant today expecting her to say yes of course you can have a section seeing as you 5ft2 and DD1 was 9.9lb and took 59 hours to deliever eventually by section... she said your having a VBAC, we wont induce you or speed up labour you need to do it natrally... spent all morning stressed and upset. on the upside heart heartbeat - im sure its a boy, DD has also grown on the idea of a baby brother :) i have my next scan in four weeks then a GTT at 26 weeks and consultant again at 28 weeks and community midwife in between. im so scared. so very scared.

hawthers · 28/09/2011 15:22

oh rubbishy rubbish rubbish. that sucks! i'm sure in my VBAC leaflet they said that you can have an elcs after a cs first time around but they'd like you to have a VBAC its not compulsory. Hmm will look it out and check the details. can you get a second opinion? what are the NICE guidelines on this? surely she can't make you?

if you do have to do it, i've just bought a natal hypnotherapy cd for VBACs in the hope i can have a nice easy one (pah!) so i'll let you know what it is like - maybe that will help you feel less scared? had to have an elcs with DS so am in blissful ignorance of labour but still scared so god only knows how you feel Sad

Purplebuns · 28/09/2011 15:22

Oh Meme if you are really worried then hassle again and again and also see a different consultant? What is GTT? Sorry if I am being thick.

Glad your scan went well Scarlet! I already watch baby crap on home and health lol I am worried I am going to pile on the weight though.

Dream, I was Shock when he said a month, I thought I was being cheeky asking in the first place. As I have been told by two Drs that it isn't going to stop until baby is here, and it is probably going to get worse, I might not be surprised! I am only 16 weeks though and I don't think I took so much as a paracetamol until I was in labour with DD.

hawthers · 28/09/2011 15:31

meme feeling outraged on your behalf and a quick google has found this:

www.nice.org.uk/newsroom/pressreleases/CSectionUpdateConsultation.jsp

hope it links ok - but point 3 and 4 of the grey box thingies seem to say she needs to do more than just say no! go on get bolshy - or pass me her number and i'll have a go on your behalf.

Biscuitsandtea · 28/09/2011 18:38

Meme hope you get to talk to someone a bit more reasonable - surely they should at least be listening to your concerns?

Scarlet yay for great scan news! And yay for waving goodbye to the EPU Smile. Not sure if you said on this thread or the other, but I know what you mean about it being forever between the 12 and 20 week scans! Last week i said to DH that it had been yonks since the last scan and I felt all lost and inbetweeny and he pointed out it had only been one week - oh well, only SEVEN (!) to go! Shock (well 6 and a bit now). I am hoping that having the mw listen to the hb in 2 weeks will help me along (I am so hoping she does do that!).

What really gets me is that there is nothing scan wise (unless there's a problem) for the entire second half of the pg! So then you don't want there to be a prob but I wish they did another routine scan later on - say week 30 ish?

Hope everyone else is ok xxx

OP posts:
hawthers · 28/09/2011 18:45

biscuitsandtea in my pct they are doing another routine scan at 32 weeks. can't quite remember why but its a teaching hosp (KCH) so it could be due to research?

i had 15 scans in first pg honestly do not want any more scans than are absolutely necessary for this one. however it does seem really odd that there are no scans from 22ish weeks until the end.

mind you my mum didn't have a single one so i guess its not as bad as that!

Biscuitsandtea · 28/09/2011 18:59

That's what i mean Hawthers, you don't want extra scans because that must mean there's a worry.

I guess they'll listen to the heartbeat but I think as a second timer I don't get as many mw appts? I am consultant led though (due to the messy and early birth of DS!) so might have to have extra appts but will know more when I go for the 20 week scan and the consultant decides what to do with me. I'm guessing nothing unusual until near the end. But again, I'm only cons led because something went wrong last time!

I guess the reason they don't schedule more standard scans is because most people don't need it. And i know the nhs is stretched so i'd rather they kept the resources for those that are having unusual problems or need extra care etc. And I guess once you can feel kicks etc that helps you to monitor everything.

On that topic, I ordered a 'count the kicks' bracelet thing today for when I get to feeling kicks. I don't think I was vigilant enough on this last time and want to make sure I'm more careful this time. Has anyone else seen/got one?

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 28/09/2011 19:22

Hello!

V quick post because I am still at work(!) and DH should be here to pick me up any minute.

Thanks for all the good wishes and Brooking! It clearly worked, as bean is looking very well and wriggling all over the place! I have been moved forward to 13+5 (from 12+6), so I have gained a whole week! It took ages for bean to cooperate for the nuchal measurement - it kept wriggling and rolling over. I got sent to pee in case that helped, but it didn't, so I had to go walk around for 20 mins, which still didn't help, and I wound up with 2 technicians having to do it! They did eventually get the measurements they needed, but we started at 1.30 and didn't leave the hospital until nearly 3, so it took ages! So I have a very wriggly baby in there, and an EDD of 30 March (delivery date will be somewhere around 16 March). Yay!

Will be back later to post more, once I have got home and had some dinner. Just as well I had a huge lunch or I would be starving!
