Ladies, our previous thread was getting full so here is a lovely new shiny home for us all.

I've put some comfy cushions around and plenty of pregnancy safe snacks and drinks. The Segway park is in the corner over there next to the stack of glittery vom buckets (plenty of extra buckets too for all the newbies).

In the corner over here you'll find our library of leaflets including sections on early pregnancy private scan clinics, pushchairs and car seats.

Hope you all like it very much :)

Did you know.....

I'm just reading the leaflet that came with my Count the Kicks bracelet and it says:

'NHS scans are routinely offered at 12 and 20 weeks currently (although this may be reduced to just one scan at 16 weeks).' Shock

I've not heard that before! That seems a bit harsh! And I would NEVER get to 16 weeks without knowing something was there and everything was OK. I don't see how that would work with the nuchal scan thing either as I thought they had a limited window in which to do it? Sounds very odd to me.

Mind you this is just in the leaflet, not NHS literature or anything. Just worth knowing?

Morning everyone by the way. Hope we are all well today :) xx

Morning biscuits!

DD had steroids yesterday and last night was soooo much better. Magic medicine. It worked so quickly too. Yesterday am she had retraction on breathing and tachycardia, last night other than being exhausted she was fine! Amazing.

I think nuchal and accurate dating has to be 11-14 doesn't it? One scan at 16 weeks would be really pants!

Biscuitsandtea · 30/09/2011 10:53

Ah Pomme so glad DD is starting to feel better :)

Incidentally I watched the British Bake Off thing this week and they were doing pastries - HARD WORK!!!!

Had my 28 week growth scan this morning - all blood flows are good and amniotic fluid good too so phew but they can't let you have a completely positive appt as they chicked in that the lo is on the small side though. As there don't tend to be big babies in my family I didn't think it was too bad but then I've checked my noes (stupidly) and est fetal weight was on 10 centile.

Now standing in sainsburys trying not to cry. This lo weighs more now than DS did when he was born and at least we are on the growth charts but still could do with some brooking to stop me sobbing into the veg aisle Sad

Hmm posting from bb and its decided mu post was so lame it needed to go up twice - sorry!

Purplebuns · 30/09/2011 12:12

Oh please don't be upset. The scan was really positive and the centile thing is a load of bull, they can't estimate it very well and baby has weeks and weeks of good growing left.
I know why you are worried and it is entirely natural/understandable but focus on the great things you have heard not one tiny detail.
Brew and try to relax you are doing great, and everything looks good :)

Biscuitsandtea · 30/09/2011 12:17

Oh Hawthers - please try not to be upset.

It is easy to concentrate on the 'negative' things from the appointments (especially when you have already worried so much about this particular point). But you are on the growth charts and this lo already weighs more than your DS did when born. Those are 2 VERY important points I think. I forget now but how many weeks were you when DS was born? As Purple says - you have lots of growing left to do and are being carefully monitored. PLus your amniotic fluid and blood flow are good which must mean the growth potential is good too.

Also, 10th centile still means that 1 in 10 babies would be smaller than yours. That's quite a lot!

We're all brooking for you xxx

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 30/09/2011 14:55

Hawthers you poor thing, have a big hug! I think sometimes when you're so worried about a particular point it's easy to focus on anything that isn't exactly what you wanted to hear, and I completely understand your concerns. Your LO is doing very well though, overall the message from the doc was very positive, and Biscuits is completely right about there being lots of smaller babies out there. Look at it this way, you've only been No Brooking for a relatively short time and already there's an improvement! By the time we've all been No Brooking for you for a few extra weeks you'll have a right chubba in there! There's plenty more time to go, and already your LO is doing so well. Hope you feel more positive soon.

Hello everyone else! Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine. My clever clever brain has picked the hottest sunniest day of the month (year perhaps?) to develop a massive migraine - thanks brain! So I've left work early and I'm off home to waste a glorious day huddled in a quiet dark room. Sigh.

Wants3 · 30/09/2011 15:05

Going back to biscuits comment about the 16 week scan. When I had my DS's I only got the one scan at 20 weeks and they were not allowed to tell us the sex either! How times change!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 01/10/2011 10:25

Hawthers, don't cry - LO will be fine. Somebody has to be on the 10th percentile, it doesn't mean a thing. You say your family has small babies - are you small yourself? I'm 5'2", so I'm probably on the 10th percentile for height and it doesn't mean I'm not healthy. As everyone has said, you're only 28 weeks and have plenty of time for LO to grow, and if s/he is already bigger than your DS was at birth then will be much bigger by 40 weeks. We are all Brooking for you and LO.

Poor Scream, is your migraine better?

Pomme, glad that your DD is getting better!

Biscuits, I will be getting a Count the Kicks bracelet this time too. I was so relieved to find out that the placenta this time is posterior, not anterior like it was last time, so am looking forward to feeling movements more clearly.

I have another new date for delivery - the consultant told me that as I was due on 29 March (not 30 like the sonographer said) she would be looking to deliver me at about 13/14 March. I asked if that was flexible at all, because DD's birthday is 13 March, and she said right, in that case we will do it the week before! 13 March is a Tuesday next year, so I'm probably looking at the week of 5-9 March. Excitement! Am off to change the stats thread.

Biscuitsandtea · 01/10/2011 10:50

Gosh Too - that really shoots you up the list! Must be nice though to have the date sorted and to know that they are looking out for you. Also really pleased that your consultant was so helpful about moving the date and letting you keep the 13th for DD.

Do they have to wait for you to get to 37 weeks before they can deliver? Do you know if you'll be induced or have ELCS yet? It certainly sounds like your consultant is looking after you well - long may that continue xx

Hope everyone else is good today too - especially the Pomme household and Scream's head!

Any nice sunshiney weekend plans?

dreamfeeder · 01/10/2011 12:09

Hawthers, you poor thing, but don't worry, the scan was positive! I agree with everyone else saying that there has to be a baby on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc percentile. One of DD's friends (well, her little friend's bigger sister who's 8 now) was and still is on the 2nd centile. No problems at any point and she's totally healthy (was a good 5lb 11 I think when born). 10th is pretty good!!!! I wonder if they'll just be cautious because of your previous history, and whether they'd have been at all concerned if you hadn't got a previous history of IUGR iykwim? Like if it'd been booked for some other reason (I was booked for one for single umbilical artery until they changed their mind about that), and the baby was 10th centile, I wonder if you'd just have been reassured?

Too, thats really good news. My sister was born 9th march, a good date/week imo Grin. One of my colleagues had a prem baby who died, and her next child was born on the day he died a couple of years later. She thinks that's a wonderful thing to have happened, and a sign for her to be able to let go and move on, and she remembers him on the day he was born instead (he lived 5 weeks). I don't know what the relevance of me telling that story is, but I think it's a sweet way of looking at an incredibly sad event in someone's life, and just mean you'll love your baby no matter what their birthday is, and what a good job you won't have to worry anyway as your consultant's so understanding.

Work night out last night, stayed out til midnight and ate far too much, even though I know too hungry/too full/ too hot/ too cold/ morning/ car are all definite vomming triggers for me. Sure enough, up til 2am puking my guts up, DD woke up, DH had to comfort her for ages (even though he was at wotk quite early this morning) and I just don't know why I didn't NOT DO IT!!!! I knew that'd happen.... boo!!!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 01/10/2011 19:07

Dream, that's such a bittersweet story. I'm planning on doing the same thing of remembering DD on her birthday rather than the day she died (which was the day before). Not that I'll forget the other date, just that I won't do anything to mark it specifically. The consultant was really good - she said the last thing I needed was to go into labour on the 13th and that was why she would deliver me the week before. I don't think it's likely that I'd go into labour that early (37+5) because I was 41 weeks the last time, but it's always possible and it's nice to know it won't happen.

Biscuits, I think I'm going to go for the ELCS. I discussed it with the consultant and she said that the trouble with induction is that it can sometimes take 24-48 hours for the first contraction to start, and I can't be monitored all that time because it just isn't practical. I don't think I could cope with that sort of wait, and I would panic without the monitor. I'm not sure if 37 weeks is the earliest they would plan a section for - maybe. You aren't considered full term until 37 weeks, so I would think there would have to be something wrong for them to agree to deliver you earlier.

Poor Dream, the vomming sounds horrible. I sympathise with the not being able to stop eating thing - I do that too, and then wind up feeling awful and bloated, but it never stops me from doing it again.

Biscuits, it is not sunshiney here! It is pouring with rain and very miserable.

hawthers · 01/10/2011 20:01

Thank you all for lovely msgs. Feeling much better today and DH is being a complete star. Am sure you are all right that uf we hadn't got our history then they wouldn't be as focused on us. Just brings it all back what happened with DS. but trying to look forward not back. Next scan in 3 weeks at 31+4 which is the day DS was born at if that makes sense.

Sorry to hear of vomming and migraines

Gald to hear too's consultant is being a legend. Must be so good to have her on your side.

Right supposed to be cooking dinner so better trot off

mememummy · 01/10/2011 22:40

Hawthers DD was on 98th and when we arrive on the ward the midwife shouted oi Mandy come and look at the thighs on this one I felt awful my neice was 3lb 2 at 32 weeks and nephew 4.2 at 37 weeks every baby is different u and little one will be fine no brooking x

I am just puking every time I get in the car

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 02/10/2011 12:36

Thanks Biscuits and Too, the migraine wouldn't budge yesterday so I stayed off my computer, but so far today it seems to have improved so I'm making hay while the sun shines!

I'm sorry to hear about all the general vomming. I hope everyone starts to feel better soon?

Has anyone had a chance to get out and make full use of the gorgeous weather?

Biscuitsandtea · 02/10/2011 12:48

Half you're feeling a bit better Scream Smile

No vomming here so we went to a lovely farm / play centre thing yesterday which was ace. Hoping to do the garden while DS naps this afternoon (please nap, PLEASE nap!) and then a BBQ Grin

Loving the bonus summer Smile

Hi all.

hope all this puking settles down soon.

I think my queasyness is going, although I still can't sleep and am a bit tired all the time. Also got a few headaches too which I think I remember from last time.

Midwife was round today to pick up my notes and bring my scan appointment at last!

The appointment is a week on Friday. It's at the exact time my shift starts (of course) that day, so will need to just tell my boss to get the time off. She is nice but I will still be nervous as anything!

dreamfeeder · 02/10/2011 16:18

Oh good jaggy you've reminded me I still haven't got my notes as the midwife I saw was disorganized and couldn't find any but said she'd post them out to me. Obviously she hasn't. Oh dear.
Good you've got your scan Friday, good in a way it makes you get the telling your boss out the way too. Sure it'll go well.

I am feeling a bit glum as I literally have puked all day and am knackered, empty and nauseous. Hopefully only another month if its like last time...

Wants3 · 02/10/2011 18:15

I have an empty house! Just made myself a sandwich and am gearing up for a bit of home and health tv. I wonder what joy it will bring today:)I hope everyone has had a good weekend ,apart from the vommers:( I feel for you and hope it passes soon!
