Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ghosteditor · 05/09/2011 18:41

Piggy, don't worry, there's no link at all between first trimester sex and anything unpleasant...

Although... Not to scare you bur I did have a bit of post-coital bleeding at around 8 weeks, but only a tiny bit and it stopped after a few hours. It's only cells on the outside of the cervix though so not risky. Blush

BunMyOven · 05/09/2011 18:50

Hi all, I'm baaaack! Grin

Had a lovely if tiring time in Wales, wedding was a bit of a nightmare with DS as expected but we managed to get some quality time with all our closest family and friends up there so I'm happy. Definite early night for me tonight, feeling quite light headed and completely drained.

We got back to Brighton at about 3pm so DP insisted on a trip into town to collect my ring! Grin It feels so strange though as I never wear rings, it's going to take some getting used to. Smile

How exciting to read about all the scans and see all the lovely pictures! Congratulations Davina, Carlita and Piggy! (sorry if I've missed anyone out)
I have my next one on Friday, will be 20+0 weeks - halfway! Shock
Still well and truly in my pre-pg jeans and still losing inches (apart from off my belly of course!), can now pull them down without unbuttoning them! Hope my appetite comes back soon! Confused I think DP's mum was a bit put out by how little I ate at the wedding.

Congratulations and welcome Fools!

Piggy, AFAIK it's perfectly safe to have sex in the first 12 weeks as long as it's a low risk pregnancy. I certainly didn't hold back! Blush Grin

Sorry if I've missed out lots, my brain's not functioning very well tonight! Off for a bath and an early night Smile

PiggyMad · 05/09/2011 18:50

Thanks ghost and thanks for the warning!
Were you tempted by any ebay bundles in the end?

PiggyMad · 05/09/2011 18:52

bun lovely to have you back and glad you had a nice time. Yay for collecting the ring Grin
Half-way on Friday Envy Have you decided about finding out or not yet?

foolserrand · 05/09/2011 19:55

Wow, everyone seems to have gone so far so quickly. Very happy for you all!

Don't have a due date yet, cb says 3+ weeks but I'm an odd one. No af since March (same thing happened with ds). Any ideas of how I can make an educated guess?

Davinaaddict · 05/09/2011 22:38

Sounds a terrible situation for your family peapop - must be really hard to deal with Sad Glad you got a great reaction from your parents & siblings though Smile

Piggy - no ebay bundles just yet! I'm obviously not in the mood for shopping at the moment cos I even popped to Mothercare to their sale, and came back empty handed!! (We've got quite a big one near us so lots of bargains to be had!) As it is I've sorted my wardrobe & all my maternity clothes from first time round out today and I only need a few bits (pj's, maternity tights, pair of work trousers etc), so not sure a bundle is the best idea, unless I manage to come across one that has everything I need in it Grin. Will keep looking though!
Loving the coco pops! And the random comment from your DH Grin. The picture is lovely though - now I totally get the smushy comment from ghost!
I know others have already answered the embarrassing q, but we were fine first time round too -haven't bothered this time as a) we had lots & lots whilst TTC! (sorry, TMI!) and b) too knackered & nauseous this time round to even think about it! No need to to wait til 12 weeks as long as you have a low risk pregnancy/drs tell you otherwise.

Hey Bun - good to have you back! Glad you now get to show your lovely new engagement ring! Enjoy your bath & early night.

Fools - erm - finger in the air? Wink That's a really tough one! Have you made an appointment with your midwife yet? She may have some ideas? Alternatively (and I'm making this up as I go along), have you been taking fairly regular pregnancy tests or OV tests? Might help you to get somewhere near? Hopefully though you might be able to get more than the standard 2 scans so there is a small silver lining to being 'an odd one' Smile

foolserrand · 06/09/2011 06:56

Apparently I need to see the doctor and they will book me in for a dating scan. Seems a bit excessive but am hardly going to complain!

Still catching up with how everyone has been getting on. Lots of eBayers I see! :)

Peapop, really hope your sister recovers soon. Very happy that your family were so appt for you!

ghosteditor · 06/09/2011 09:34

fools, ooh, a pregnancy-mystery! and CONGRATS! Good that you'll get a scan (though I guess you know that if it is really early they won't be able to see much and that could be stressful for you - have lost count of the number of panicked threads where people have been scanned at 5/6 weeks and nothing is apparent, only to show up a week later. If you know this in advance I guess it's ok though?). I think MWs can also tell from a physical exam, especially if you are past a certain point, as you can feel from the outside how far up and out of the pelvis the uterus has moved/expanded. Just a thought.

piggy yes I did go for a couple of ebay bundles but am a bit nervous now - one is waiting for me to collect today at the post office. I won a bid on a bundle of office clothes yesterday which actually cost quite a lot of money (although not, I suspect, compared to any one of the items if buying new) so I really really hope they fit. I need quite a lot of work stuff as we're all about video conferencing now so I can't just slob about in warm clothes in winter in our freeeeezing office. I'm extremely picky about clothes normally but due to the reduced choice in maternity clothing and the fact that we've switched to the new 'baby-budget' already so we can start buying things, I can't really afford to be too selective. I bought a sewing machine a couple of weeks ago so at least I can do my own alterations easily. And if any of the black things look faded I had a big success with dying a black skirt back to black last year, so would do that again.

bun yey for the engagement ring! I never used to wear rings either but very quickly adapted to my engagement ring. DH took a bit longer with his wedding ring though Grin. By the way - keep checking that you can take the ring off each week as a friend of a friend had to have both of hers cut off in late pregnancy, gutted!

Carlitawantsababy · 06/09/2011 09:55

Wowee, congratulations fools welcome! How exciting! When are you going to the doctors?
bun how lovely to have your ring!ghost thanks for the tip with the weekly rings testing, I would be so, so gutted.
Supposed to be leaving for work now and am still in bed do had better get a move on! Have a good day everyone! I'm telling my team at work today ad we have a meeting this evening!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 06/09/2011 10:04

Grin by the way, that's both of her rings cut off by the way, not her phalanges Grin

PiggyMad · 06/09/2011 12:57

ghost you can always sell the bits that are no good back on ebay again and make some of the money back - well that's my plan anyway but so far everything has fit (obviously will look different with a bump) apart from one pair of ridiculously tiny stretch trousers that I can't fit 'under the bump' without an actual bump - that was a good moment for the self-esteem!

ghosteditor · 06/09/2011 15:27

I know - am in the middle of selling my very first ebay item at the moment (no bidders; one watcher!) and it's quite exciting. It's just my back-up wedding shoes that I'm selling, actually, and really should have done something about them before now but I'm keen to make some ebay money back! They're all new and shiny and were never used so have yet to fulfill their purpose as wedding shoes.

I haven't had time to open the bundle that arrived yesterday but should be able to check tonight. And then of course they'll need washing as I can't stand the smell of other people's laundry Grin

foolserrand · 06/09/2011 15:34

ghost, so glad I'm not the only one who has to rewash clean clothes.

ghosteditor · 07/09/2011 09:43

am pleased to report that the first ebay package arrived and everything was clean and pressed and looking brand new - very impressed! The whole pack had a really really floral scent though - not sure if she'd squirted perfume in there but I had to whizz the whole lot through the washer before I could do anything else Grin.

just waiting for the 'work bundle' to be delivered as am desperate for more work clothes and this one will have a pencil skirt, wrap dress, black jacket, trousers, and a couple of other bits and pieces. yeys!

trope · 07/09/2011 12:09

Hello hello! Back from morecambe and had a busy weekend with friends over so am only just catching up on some rest these last few days! Have a horrid cold too :( But had a great time with my sister and a lovely weekend with friends (although as they don't know I'm preg it was a bit knackering as I couldn't just flake out whenever I felt tired!! Found it so hard to not say anything!!)

I got a shock this morning though, as my bump has almost completely disappeared!! It's shifted up I think - I noticed I wasn't needing to wee so much the last few days and I know the uterus does move up out of the pelvic area (reducing pressure on the bladder) but not usually till the second trimester I thought? My ribs feel weirdly pressured and the nausea/queasiness is worse than it had been (having really eased off a lot last week) but on the upside i'm back in my regular jeans! Woo!

Now - to catch up on all I missed!!!

davina that scan picture is fantastic!! What a lovely clear image!! Grin

piggy I'm also getting excited about christmas! Last year was rather shit (MiL was diagnosed with bowel cancer week before xmas throwing everything into chaos and BiL issues / snow meant we had to change all our plans at the last minute and go do xmas at her teeny tiny bungalow with a tiny crap oven) and the year before was pretty crap too (further MiL issues!!) So I'm really hoping for a good one this year! Getting very excited about doing crafty stuff (cards, decorations, home made presents etc) - carlita's mad sewing skills have inspired me to dig out my sewing machine and get back into practise making things too!

Saw pinterest linked elsewhere and have wasted hours browsing boards there - will definitely be signing up shortly and making my own xmas and baby boards!

Love your scan pic too - amazing how much you can see at 8 weeks!

Also I too am devouring coco pops!! They are giving away a free plastic branded bowl at sainsburys when you buy large boxes of certain cereals! So I now have a tony the tiger plastic bowl to eat them from... (I have been craving frosties too, but have resisted so far as they seem somehow more sugary/worse for you than coco pops!!)

I tried Bio oil when I took my belly piercing out (to try and help it heal over more quickly) but found it made my skin tingle a bit weirdly Confused so stopped using it! I do slather on body shop cocoa butter most nights before bed though!

carlita loving the idea of a banana shaped uterus! That's some strong bladder you've got there!! Wink Glad the scan went well - awesome that you're getting another one too!! It's nice when NHS screw ups work for good sometimes instead of just being annoying!!

peapop your poor sister :( I hope she bounces back soon. Glad your family are happy for you though - it must be hard balancing your excitement about your own pregnancy with worries about your sister.

foolserrand WELCOME! Congratulations! Grin Home made pizza and bunny biscuits - ooh!! someone just upped the food stakes! Wink (and... yep, mere mention of food has made me hungry again! Never thought I could get so bored of constant snacking!)

bun welcome back! :) Exciting getting the ring! I know what you mean about getting used to wearing one again - pre-arthritis I used to wear rings all the time, but my hands were the first thing affected when I got sick, so I had to stop... For our 10th anniversary DP got me a beautiful ring, as my hands were better enough most days to wear one. It took me ages and ages to get used to it! Now my hands are so much better that the ring is actually loose again and I get really nervous washing/drying my hands in public toilets in case it falls off!! Not going to resize just yet though in case pregnancy makes my fingers all fat!

maternity bundles - these sound really really good - had no idea people sold stuff in bulk like this before now! I had a quick look on ebay and there are some I might bid on too! Have found maternity clothes in shops unspeakably depressing! I have found some new look jeans with just a small elasticated waistband above the "jeans" portion (rather than a huge over bump bit of fabric) and they've been pretty good - although I constantly feel like my knickers are falling down! I can't decide whether to wait and see what sort of "proper" bump I get in the coming months or whether to just bid on some stuff now! I was all set to get bidding until my bump went undercover on me - it seems a bit pointless right now though! Confused

Finally - I have a question as I haven't had a clear answer from the internet! Wink When you had your booking in appointments - did any of you get scans there and then, or did they book you in for one up at the hospital/elsewhere on a different date? I'm hoping for another scan so DP can see fuzzy for himself, but as i've already had my dating scan at the hospital with the obstetrician I don't know if they'll repeat it anyway at / following booking in? Not sure how the 12 week scan will work either as I'm due to see the obstetrician again at 14 weeks! Guess it will all become clear in time - is just frustrating not being able to get clear answers on what will be done when! (impatient smiley!)

trope · 07/09/2011 12:10

ooh ghost & fools meant to say - I rewash everything too! hate the smell of other people's washing powder (and I don't trust strangers to wash things properly! (anal retentive smiley))

BunMyOven · 07/09/2011 12:51

Piggy we'll be hoping to find out the sex, baby willing. Still very much undecided about telling other people though. Will probably be way too excited to keep it to ourselves in the end though Smile

Thanks for the tip about checking the ring Ghost would hate to have to have it cut off (the ring or the finger! Wink)

Hi Trope! Glad you had such a lovely time Smile Not glad that you're ill and feeling sick again Sad

Pinterest looks great! May have to have a wee gander myself!

We're having a very small Christmas this this year. We did it big last year and it was lovely but what with getting married and having another baby next year we've decided to stay in Brighton and just do presents for the 3 of us. Good luck with this year's xmas! We had some duds running up to our lovely one last year so know how disappointing it can be.

Ooh yes, uterus shapes! Grin mine is a definite boomerang! haha!

The booking in appointment was just with my midwife and she booked a date to have the scan at the hospital. Not sure if they'll want to re-do a dating scan or not but if you're having the NT test for Down's they'll still give you another scan at around 12 weeks to do that.

trope · 07/09/2011 14:59

bun - ooh - finding out the sex - exciting!! Grin

thanks for info re: scan - likely that DP will have to wait a bit longer to see fuzzy for himself then probably! Nevermind, once we hit 20 weeks we get 4 weekly scans so it's not like he's missed his chance!

I cracked and signed up to pinterest today (invite came through within the hour once I requested it) - my xmas board is here if anyone fancies a gander!

foolserrand · 07/09/2011 16:34

It's taken me a whole day of almost constant reading, but am finally caught up! Wow.

Carlita - A. Maz. Ing. I love the sock monkey and mini monkey. And those darling dungarees... the pirate ones are my favourite.

Lovely seeing all the scan photos. Be careful using a scanner, someone I used to work with once wiped the original trying to scan it into a pc. Fairly sure this was a long, long time ago but the fear is enough to stop me risking it!

Baby brain has kicked in good and proper. Tried to put ds's dirty nappy in his car drawer, left my debit card at home when I went shopping, and have successfully forgotten everything I was going to say.

Am oddly slightly jealous of those with nausea (ok, that may be an exaggeration!). I can't stop eating! Although, this baby must hate me, I'm not allowed to eat anything good, only carbs. My bump will never show through the flab!

Right, ds has me watching old school fireman Sam and I have, once again, totally lost my train of thought. At least he's making me lovely plastic food and pretend tea!

foolserrand · 07/09/2011 16:42

Oh, can't remember who wants an off road buggy but we have a Jane slalom pro and it is perfect. Can go anywhere with it (two large dogs so lots of hiking) and it just keeps going. Not sure if it would suit a newborn though and its huge so definitely not good as an only buggy or for anyone planning on putting it in a small car. They are pretty pricey though. We got ours second hand from eBay and it was still a few hundred. You can get new seats etc though for next to nothing making it like new again.

Ok, must go play cars before the monkey gets cross with me. Hmmm.... must be nearly dinner time by now....

PiggyMad · 08/09/2011 08:49

Hi ladies,
Loads to catch up on again but I think I?ve caught everything?

ghost great news on the bundles! I love getting parcels through the post ? even if it is just things I?ve bought myself Grin

trope welcome back from Morecombe! It?s hard having to hide it and keep it secret from people ? not long to go though Wink That website you linked to is great ? will be spending hours on there! Definitely feels like Winter is on the way now ? has anyone else noticed the evenings drawing in a lot earlier now Sad But yay for Christmas! Where I am ? you either get a dating scan between 8-14 weeks or you get the nuchal scan which has to be done between 11 and 14 weeks I think. But the midwife doesn?t do any scans ? it is all booked in by the midwife at the hospital.

bun I hope you?ll be sharing the sex with us (sex of the baby, I mean!) We are very discreet and won?t tell anyone Wink I?m not sure what we?ll do this xmas ? should probably go to MILs since we always go to my parents (but in defence of this ?biased? custom, she has two daughters who live at home and my brother lives away so my parents would be on their own Blush)

fools have you found out when you will get a dating scan yet? Or any idea how far along you might be? I?d love to miss out the first 12 weeks and wake up in the second tri Grin

Anyone had any grim dreams? I had an awful one about giving birth and my baby boy dying last night Sad was awful ? and he was named my favourite boy name too so will have to rethink that Confused Think it may have been triggered by my book club meeting last night ? the book was about 1850s/60s London and the mourning industry and a young girl had a stillbirth. Awful. Sorry to share!

Right, off to have some coco pops Wink

foolserrand · 08/09/2011 10:28

Hi Piggy! What a sad dream. At least you can blame the book. I keep dreaming of ghosts who are actually very much alive gorge chicks and beautiful little fairies who bite my calves. Always knew fairies were vicious! (Yes, that was all one dream Blush).

I've been trying to figure it out and can't be more than 4 weeks, I don't think. This happened to us with ds too. We didn't find out until 17 weeks with him, despite frequent trips to our (now ex) doctor with a kidney infection Hmm Still, confirmation of pregnancy appointment with doctor is tonight so maybe will come home with a better idea.

Did anyone else have the sickness coupled with insatiable hunger? It's enough to drive me crazy!

foolserrand · 08/09/2011 21:13

I'm approx 5 weeks 4 days folks! The poor doctor has been forced to go along with my dates and surmises (but they were painfully well researched and obviously right :o)

So, I've updated the stats YEY!

Hi All, have had a good read and catch up but so tired not doing a proper post, just a wave!
trope love love love pinterest
Thanks fools glad you liked the monkeys too...may have to make some more.

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 09/09/2011 09:35

fools, it was me musing about an offroad buggy. We're still floundering a bit but I think we might get an iCandy cherry at first and then readdress the offroad issue at 6 months or so, when there's a wider range of prams because the baby will be able to sit up. And of course, great to hear you figured out a probable date.

about the crazy dreams - I've had them all the way through so far and they're still as vivid and wacky as ever. I'm also usually a massive sleeper but at the moment I can't seem to get back to sleep if I'm woken up by something (at least not for an hour or so). As a result I'm drained and very emotional at the moment (poor DH is bearing the brunt of it). This morning DH's work phone was going off (he's military) for ages downstairs, but he struggles to wake up with alarms/random noises so he didn't hear it. I took it up to him, but it seems to have been calling from someone's pocket as it kept ringing and ringing and no one spoke when he answered. [fumes]

Still, it's the weekend now, and I have my 22 week MW appt today! All go...
