Hi!

Carlita, sorry to hear about your sister! That must be awful for her when all she must want to do is relax with her babies Sad How lovely of you to take Christmas to her, sounds like she's getting looked after well Xmas Smile

Mamma MNing whist on a conference call I'm impressed tut tut Xmas Wink Hope it's over soon!

Davina your day ahead sounds like what I have planned, minus the party though! I wrote a To-Do list last night (along with numerous other lists Xmas Blush) of what I need/want to get done before Sunday - too bloody much! Was hoping to relax Christmas Eve but that is not going to be happening now ... unless I lower my expectations considerably, which to be fair, I probably should do and cut myself some slack, all things considered...we'll see!

35 weeks today! Still don't have everything we need as the wanker still hasn't paid DP Angry so we're having to borrow money from FIL until Wanker pays up so that we can get everything we need. At the moment we have no way of getting Pirate out of the hospital (no car seat) and nowhere for her to sleep! Sad It's all so annoying because we thought we'd be fine getting everything done before Christmas and be able to relax. Instead, this is turning out to be the least relaxing Christmas we've ever had!

Anyway, (sorry, moaning lots lately!) 'tis the season to be jolly and all that, so...

*Shop bought I'm afraid as my oven is desperate for a clean! Xmas Grin

Carlitawantsabauble · 23/12/2011 13:08

Hooray for 16 weeks mamma! How exciting to feel your little one. I hate conference calls, I always do the same, sit on Internet or do some real work while everyone gabbers away!
davina sounds like a plan today! I have the raspberry leaf capsules (from holland and barratt) but I split them and pour on hot water as like te taste. Not so much a fruit tea, more a herbal if that makes any difference to you? Tastes like nettle tea. Xmas Shock at going on maternity leave the day before you're due!
bun wow, 35 weeks! Can't believe that guy still hasn't paid. What an arse. We got an excellent car seat and isofix base from freecycle yesterday, just happens to be the exact one DH wanted too! Hope something lucky comes your way for pirate. At least you could maybe take advantage of the sales?
trope? TROPE?
Is there a better thread somewhere with piggy, kayzr and trope on it? Xmas Sad

Carlitawantsabauble · 23/12/2011 13:23

Oh davina been meaning to say, I do like Paige. It's strong but still pretty. I have never seen charmed though so don't know how well known Paige Matthews is or how odd it'd seem to have Paige and Matthew. That's why I didn't comment on it before.

JingleBun · 23/12/2011 17:25

Oh yes! Paige! So sorry I forgot to give my tuppence worth Davina! I like it too! One of DS's friends is a Paige and she's completely divine, the name seems to work really well for her. I agree with Carlita, strong but still really pretty. Xmas Smile

Have done very little of any use today, bit of laundry, Oven Prided the oven to be attacked in the morning and played/read books/watched films with DS. Definitely need to attack the kitchen before the day's through though.

And yes, where is everyone?! Stop making us look bad by being too busy with RL to post! Xmas Grin

tinseltoedtrope · 24/12/2011 18:35

I'm back, I'm back! Sorry! Has been a crazy week (and then some!) Have been obliterated with fatigue; the heartburn has ramped back up so badly that I'm getting woken up in the night by it, it's so bad I'm retching and struggling to not puke Xmas Sad which combined with manic last minute xmas shopping/present wrapping etc has just wiped me right out! But it is all done now, including mammoth food shopping yesterday! Am on the sofa, watching River Cottage xmas after a long walk on the beach with DP, who is now cooking us dinner! Awesome! Xmas Grin Have got consultants appointment on the 29th, so will talk to her about something stronger than rennies to manage the heartburn (there are potentially issues with gaviscon interacting with my meds, so can't even take that while I wait!)

Am too tired to properly go through and comment on all the posts i've missed right now, sorry!

But did want to say so sorry about your news bun - really glad DP is being great! You know where I am if there's anything I can do to help out! We're about over the xmas/new year break, so if you need anything just give us a shout! Xmas Smile Fingers crossed your appointment on the 28th goes well.

I haven't got stuck on the stairs at home yet, but I am starting to have difficulty getting my socks/shoes on and off! It's mainly the bump being in the way - how do the rest of you manage?? The arthritis in my hips / feet doesn't help though! Have had a letter through about physio, so will book my first appointment when the appts line reopens post xmas!

I had my scan on Thursday - amazingly fuzzy continues to flourish, hovering around the 50th centile still for most measurements. Was an absolutely amazing scan, he was very good and still enough to get the measurements. At one point the sonographer was able to get a front on view of the face, which was just incredible. Couldn't get a pic of that, but have some more lovely pics which i'll upload when I get a chance! He is looking noticeably bigger and chubbier and more and more like a proper chubby little baby every scan! I really can't wait to meet him!

You can see the bump moving about with him now, and when he does big kicks the whole bump wobbles out to the side!! DP is most amused (and freaked out!!)

So exciting that some of you are so near the end now - not long till we get our first thread babies!! Xmas Grin

And with that I'm off, food is nearly ready! I hope you all have wonderful special xmas days, filled with lovely presents and food, no heartburn, no SPD/PGP and lots of lovely wiggles & kicks! Xmas Grin

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 24/12/2011 22:21

Hey ladies, can't write much as it would be too antisocial with the folks here but fab that you had such a great scan trope, and Paige is indeed a lovely name Xmas Smile!

Just had a fab visit to MW centre and my BP is way down to a much more acceptable level, baby is 2/5 engaged and measuring very well for dates (37+ 3). So excited!!!

elliebug · 25/12/2011 02:58

hello everyone, happy christmas, i'm being very naughty and writing this whilst on a night shift Xmas Hmm luckily i finish in 5 hours at which point im off home to bed!! i was very upset to learn yesterday that i cant cuddle any lambs this year (OH family have a farm and are expecting over 100 lambs)
i was also wondering about raspberry leaf? i thought you were only supposed to take it to induce labour, is this right? will stop typing ramdom words now, i am very tired, this is my last night thank goodness Xmas Grin might go and make myself a Brew
ghost very exciting Xmas Grin
bun will be thinking of you on the 28th

elliebug · 25/12/2011 04:21

Ps, am very Envy at those of you who have felt movement, I have been desperately trying to feel peanut move but ?she is not playing Sad I'm 19 weeks now so don't think in being unreasonable!!!

MammaInTheMaking · 25/12/2011 18:59

Happy Christmas!!!!!!!

Carlitawantsabauble · 25/12/2011 23:00

Yay trope good to hear from you. Your scan sounds lovely, cute little fuzzy being good for you! I'm with you on the heartburn, getting it every day, several times a day. Difference is I can take gaviscon (thank god) though I need one now and just got home from my sister's and left them there. We had a great day, stress free and lots of cuddles with babies!
Fab news ghost about your MW appointment! So close now; I'm very excited for you!
elliebug it'll be lovely to start feeling peanut. Shouldn't be long now. Lots of people start just after 20 week scan. Raspberry leaf tea is a uterine toner, it being used to induce labour is an old wive's tale. There's lots of different advice as to when to start taking it so you'll need to make your own choice on that. I decided on 25 weeks. My mum took it throughout her pregnancies, 1 cup first trimester, 2 second, 3 third and had wonderfully quick labours. First one 2.5 hours, second one 1.5 hours (start to finish) which I would like very much please Xmas Grin
Happy Christmas mamma and everyone. Xmas Smile

Davinaaddict · 27/12/2011 10:18

Merry Christmas every one (better late than never Xmas Grin)! Hope you've all had a fabulous time. We're now on day 3 of Christmas, which will be the best I think, as it's just the 3 of us. It's great spending time with family but we've spent the last 2 days pleasing everyone else & not really getting to enjoy our Christmas really. So DH is at M&S picking up a few bits for dinner (roast duck today - yum yum!) & I'm lazing in bed waiting for DS to wake up. Bliss!

Next year we've decided that Christmas Day will be just for us - no setting the alarm on Christmas morning (am sure DS will take care of that for us!), no driving miles so that we have to stay off the alcohol completely (although it's not a boozy affair anyway with 2 kids of course - just nice to be able to have more than one), no being so tired that you probably shouldn't be driving anyway, and no not being able to put the kids to bed when they need it, not having to bundle them in the car and sing all the way home so they don't cry all the way. Just a lovely crazy day at home, and I can't wait!

As this thread has again been knocked off my Threads I'm On list, it looks like I've some catching up to do! Xmas Smile

Hi Mamma - cross post! Hats off to the MNing whilst on a conference call. It's great when you have to be on the call so no other interruptions, and you can MN do other things. I have to be careful which calls I do that on though - been caught out a couple of times and had to play the "sorry, can you repeat the question, as I lost you mid sentence" card Xmas Smile I know no-one actually believes that though Xmas Grin. Lovely you are feeling movements from your little pear - I think mine is a butternut squash now (squash being the most appropriate word!)

Sorry about the lack of funding Bun - it must be really frustrating for you. Have you any idea when he will be coughing up? Can you send the boys round take legal advice? Thanks for the mince pies - is it too early for a Christmas Baileys Xmas Grin If I don't get back on before your appointment tomorrow, just want to say good luck Thanks

Hope we're not missing out on a better thread somewhere ..... I hate missing out! But this thread is so lovely, so I don't really believe that anyway Xmas Smile

Yay for coming back trope Sorry you had a busy & feeling crap week last week - hope your feeling better now. Socks & shoes definitely a struggle these days! And I still have another 11 weeks to go so it's not looking good....think I may have to stop going out, or live in slippers/flip flops (not much good when the snow comes!). Great news about your scan - look forward to seeing the photo Xmas Smile

Yay for low BP Ghost and for being so close now. Babies are so exciting!

Hi Ellie Xmas Shock at you doing a night shift on Christmas Eve! That most be rubbish Xmas Sad. Hope you managed to enjoy Christmas and get some sleep. You're definitely NBU in wanting movement at 19 weeks, especially when everyone will no doubt be saying its normal not to feel movement until 20-22 weeks with DC1 Xmas Sad. Have you got your scan booked in yet? Will it be next week? Carlita & I have the same understanding on raspberry leaf tea, although I didn't realise you could take it quite that early!

Thanks for all your lovely comments on Paige -they weren't necessary, but I do appreciate them! Xmas Grin

Ok best get up as DH is back, and DS is starting to stir lazy little bum that he is Xmas Grin Before I go though, thought I'd leave you with an extract from my Baby Centre app from Christmas Day - it made me chuckle!

"Some old friends, heartburn and constipation, may make an unwelcome return around now. The pregnancy hormone progesterone relaxes smooth muscle tissue throughout your body, including your gut. This relaxation slows digestion, which in turn can cause wind and heartburn, especially after a big meal. It can contribute to constipation as well. And of course your increasingly crowded belly is not making digestion any easier.

To ease heartburn:
Try not to have food and drinks that can make heartburn worse, such as rich, high fat or spicy dishes, chocolate, citrus fruits, alcohol and coffee.

Eat small meals often. This gives your stomach less time to build up acid because food neutralises the stomach acid.

Take time over your food. Eat small mouthfuls and chew your food well.

Keep an upright posture, particularly during and just after meals. Try not to lie down for at least an hour after eating.

If heartburn is worse at night, try not to eat or drink anything for the three hours before you go to bed." Of all the days to get that on, Christmas Day had to be the most fitting! Needless to say, I ignored it Xmas Grin

Hope you all have a lovely day!

JingleBun · 28/12/2011 13:32

Merry Christmas everyone! Sorry it's late! Thanks for all the good wishes for today's appointment.

Went this morning and didn't learn a whole lot more than we already knew - very frustrating. Had another scan to check over everything, all looked ok. Then we had a talk with a surgeon and the man that will be in charge of Pirate's care when she's born (sorry, job titles are completely escaping me!) and they said that because they're limited to how clearly they can see what's going on inside bump when they can only do US scans through me, they have to just wait until she's born so they can get a proper diagnosis. It became apparent that it being an ovarian cyst is nothing more than an educated guess based on probability. Because they're not able to rule out anything at the moment as it's touching kidneys, intestines etc due to it's size, they're all still very much in the picture.

So, she will have an US scan when she's born and, if more detail is needed, they'll have to put her under (or, 'put her to sleep' as the surgeon described it! Shock) to do CT or MRI scans, can't remember (thankfully they're sending me a report of everything we talked about as my brain is swamped!).

It looks pretty likely that she's going to have to have an operation though. The only scenario that she won't is if it is an ovarian cyst smaller than 5cm, it's currently between 5 and 6cm so that's not likely.

The good news is that I will be able to have a normal pregnancy and delivery and that Pirate will most likely be treated as an out patient rather than having to stay in hospital, fingers crossed!

Sorry, not sure how readable all that is, feel a bit woozy. Going to go for a sleep now - thank the lord for mothers visiting at the right time, bacon sandwiches and orders to go for a rest, won't argue with that!

Davinaaddict · 28/12/2011 14:20

Hi bun - sorry you had a frustrating appointment Sad. On the whole, it sounds very promising with the 'normal pregnancy' and the outpatient bit. And good that you'll get a report which will mean you can digest everything they've told you, as well as give you chance to consider any more questions you might have. Have they booked you in for any further appointments yet?

Have a lovely rest and enjoy the bacon sandwich Smile

Carlitawantsabauble · 28/12/2011 22:55

davina, next year's Christmas sounds lovely! bun great news re normal pregnancy and delivery! Great too that pirate can be an outpatient, how soon after birth will they scan her? Was that discussed? Glad you'll get a report to go through, like davina said it'll give you a chance to think about any questions you might have. Smile

Carlitawantsabauble · 28/12/2011 22:59

I, by the way, have been feeling rather brilliant again. I've been okay for the whole Christmas period, few twinges of pain but nothing I can't put up with. Went to mothercare with DH for a couple of hours today (with my £100 voucher from my team at work Grin) and just took the dog for a walk round the block. It is wonderful to feel so normal! Grin

Davinaaddict · 28/12/2011 23:12

Glad you're feeling better Carlita - and fab present from work! Did you get anything good?

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 29/12/2011 09:10

Oh bun that's promising news, am really pleased for you and pirate, and it sounds like minimum intervention for now!

DH is back at work today on call so I'm going to venture out for a few last things mentioned on my labour list given by the hospital - namely lucozade tablets, a water spray, and a couple of other random things. Everyone keeps telling me to bring bendy straws so DH and SIL got in on the joke and I got a lifetime's supply for Christmas Grin

Carlitawantsabauble · 29/12/2011 10:10

Oh goodness ghost buying for a labour list makes it all rather real! Shock
We only spent £20 of the voucher yesterday, some socks and then practical things that we needed like nappy liners, wipes etc. we're a bit freaked out after my friend's baby arrived at 32 weeks and wanted to make sure we had everything just in case! Even got a pack of Eco friendly disposables in case we end up in hospital unable to use our washables! Smile oh, got some swimming shorts with built in nappy too. Still have some bits I want but none in store, need a smaller swim nappy (one we bought was 3-6 months but I want to take him swimming younger than that) a couple of bundlers to try (like nighties with elasticated bottoms for easy nighttime changes) and some cot sheets (once we have bought a cot! Oh and the big purchase we're considering is a sheepskin rug for floor and buggy. I think it'll be good to save some voucher for when he comes too so that we can top up on clothes/things we then feel we want more of, never know what you'll get as gifts! Grin am secretly hoping I may even get another voucher from work as that one was from the team I manage, there's still the other managers and we usually chip in for things together! Really lovely surprise, very generous indeed. They hadn't written the amount on and when I went to get it checked I was hoping for £50! Grin

Davinaaddict · 29/12/2011 22:15

Gosh you must be so excited ghost Are you completely ready now? We have SOOOO much to do and only 10 weeks left Confused Not panicking yet much

Sounds like a good idea to save some of your vouchers Carlita That way, you don't have to worry about exchanging things if you get bought the same thing. And it's nice showing off your new baby having an excuse to take the baby out Grin

We had some terrible news today - my friend had her 12 week scan today and was told that she lost her baby about a week ago Sad Sad Sad I haven't spoken to her (she's a friend of a friend, so we're not close), but my friend has and unsurprisingly she's in bits. Tbh even if I did, I would not have a clue what to say Sad It must be so hard for her and her DH. She's the first person I've known to lose a baby. It's hard not to feel guilty and worried about ours, as well as quietly thankful that it's not us going through it. The one thing I am thankful for her, is that at least it is fairly early on, so she won't have to go through labour knowing that she won't have a baby afterwards. I know it's not much consolation for her though Sad Sorry for the selfish & rambling post - not quite sure where my head is at (and I know that my feelings are NOTHING compared to my friends) Sad

Carlitawantsabauble · 29/12/2011 23:38

Sad davina that's awful. Must be devastating. It's so nice to feel the little one moving all the time to know he's okay, so scary that you can't early on and that that sort of thing can happen. Sad

JingleBun · 30/12/2011 10:28

No Davina, we're not having any more appointments until after the baby's born now as there's nothing else they can do until then. They told us not to hesitate to call with any questions we have between now and then and that, if we want, we can have another appointment with them to go over any issues. Can't really see us doing either though tbh because it's just a waiting game until she's here when we can find out what we're actually dealing with - it's horrible, just wish we knew what was going to happen Sad

But, all in all, we're very relieved that they're happy to let the pregnancy and labour go on with no intervention and that all being well we'll be able to take her home with us.

Carlita, they didn't really say how soon they'd be doing the scan after she's born, think it's a case of 'depends on how busy we are' which I guess is understandable; if they're needed for more serious cases then obviously we'd have to wait.

Glad you're feeling so much better, and what a lovely gift! Have fun spending it! Smile

Thanks Ghost Smile
Love the bumper pack of bendy straws! I picked up some cereal bars today to go in my hospital bag, not having what I had with DS - had assumed that like everyone says you get given tea and toast to keep you going until the next meal time - not a crumb! I was soooo hungry, had to send DP for food.

Have ordered the last of the basic clothes we need (lots of white vests and sleepsuits etc) and the car seat (thank you sales!), DP will hopefully be getting money for the crib this weekend from work which is great, means we haven't had to borrow any from FIL.
Getting so nervous about not having everything ready, am 36 weeks today and bump has really dropped in the last couple of days. Crossing my legs!

Oh and to top it off I've got a stye in my eye! Angry [ouch]

Oh Davina, how awful Sad everyone's worst nightmare.

MammaInTheMaking · 30/12/2011 11:52

Hello all. I'm feeling a bit Weepy and hormonal at the mo so thought I'd come on here... Do you mind if I offload? We've had such a great Christmas seeing both sides of the family. DP has been drinking over the holidays (as you do, nothing wrong with that) and his really enjoyed it and it's been great being around him because he's just been "nice" tipsy when he has had a few. (I'm a complete T-total and drunkenness really irritates me...). Then last night he just got hammered, started talking absolute rubbish, and just generally wasn't the "nice" tipsy I like. He came to bed in the middle of the night, stumbling everywhere (we were sleeping on the floor at sister-in-law's house). I was so worried he'd just trip and fall on me. He reeked of cigarets and booze etc etc. Basically I just felt really uncomfortable by it all. He snored all night which kept me awake, plus the smell of fags and the last week my pelvis has started to kill in bed so I was in agony myself. Then a few hours later he did a MASSIVE fart practically on me and that was the last straw. I just burst into tears!!!! He was semi-awake and just started going on about it being in a crossword.....which upset me even more that he was so drunk he couldn't even apologise.

Oh god, I sound so dramatic don't I. DP is never a "bad" drunk at all. And I'm prob a bit more judgemental because I don't drink! And hormones have really set me off today.

Goodness me, I need to pull myself together a bit. DP has the hangover from hell. Currently asleep on my shoulder in the car. Joy..... Angry

Totally selfish post, v sorry Sad

Carlitawantsabauble · 30/12/2011 12:13

Oh mamma, sounds horrible. I know exactly what you mean! DH doesn't do it often either but when he gets so drunk he stops making sense it is very irritating. And the smell...yuck. Luckily he doesn't smoke, that has got to be the worst smell for me since being pregnant. Tell him to go to bed when you get home so that you don't have to put up with him. Get yourself some chocolate and find a good DVD to watch! Smile

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 30/12/2011 12:30

Oh Davina that's awful Sad

Mamma - I sympathise, that must have been really unpleasant and these things are always worse in the middle of the night. I hardly drink these days (pre-pg) but DH indulges a bit from time to time and is a bit of a ranty drunk, which I dislike! He's moderating a lot now though and tends to listen when I give him a Hmm look and ask if he thinks he's had enough yet Grin boys are gross though, aren't they?!

Bun yes I bought some cereal bars and energy tablets yesterday - may also try to get lucozade pouches or Capri sun as I've seen them recommended (frozen) for labour.

Um... What else have we been talking about? I'm so scatty these days, need lists for everything!

Hmmm where is trope?

Yes, 38 weeks now, all getting very real! I think we're sorted with essentials (some teeny tiny clothes) but mentally I'm not prepared at all Wink

JingleBun · 30/12/2011 13:16

Ugh Mamma, sounds crap. I'm the same, don't have much patience for drunk people either, especially when it's DP, I'm always a bit, well, disappointed really. Thankfully he's like your DP too, mostly just a bit tipsy so I can mock him Grin Carlita's suggestion of chocolate and a film is a fantastic one Smile

Oh yes Ghost forgot about the cartons of drink idea, it's a good one. With DS, they were brilliant at keeping me stocked up with lovely ice cold water though so I think I'm going to save the bag space for extra toiletries for after the birth Grin
