Redhead, addicted, bighot - I'm another "latey" due 29th Jan, so I'll be utterly fed up by then!

I'm currently hopping mad as I was supposed to see the MW at 9.30 this morning for my 16 wk appt, turned up 10 mins early, sat for 1 hour 20 mins, to then be told that the MW hadn't bloody turned up! The receptionist said "oh yes, I called her mobile earlier and she seems to be holiday" and she didn't think to mention it to the large number of pg women in the waiting room. GARRRRRGHHHHHH! And obviously I can't get through to anyone to make a new appointment. Sigh.

Managed to cobble together some banana bread for the nursery sale - what's the etiquette on buying one's own cake just in case it's horrible??

Haven't had a chance to read through everything, so hope you're all ok!

Nanny01 · 18/08/2011 13:03

I can only say I have made loads of mistakes buying a heavy pushchair and then regretting it. Last time I got the icandy apple which was so cumbersome that I had to sell it and bought a baby jogger city mini. Thinking this time of a britax bmobile or another baby jogger city mini 4 wheeler (WHich I can use my maxicosie carseat on with adapters). I know most of my friends have ended up changing there first pushchair for a lighter second one.

addictediam I agree some of these pushchairs are really heavy. My mil couldn't even see over the top of the icandy. Some pushchairs have good resale value like the bugaboos. so you know as long as you look after it and don't scatch it or damage it you will get a lot back.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 18/08/2011 13:26

That's funny, cos DH is 6'2" and he found it comfortable to push around - as did I at 5' 4" - one of the reasons we liked it...

ParsleyLion1 · 18/08/2011 14:05

I tried it in the shop - my back felt achey after pushing. Might be it doesn't suit my stance - I'm only 5 11 so you would think most buggys would cater to that size. My OH was also fine with it - so probably just me.

ChocaMum · 18/08/2011 14:08

Ooh lots been going on while I've been resting and now not been sick for 5 days!!! Probably shouldn't get overexcited though as it will just come back...

Congrats on all the scans and finding out about boys/girls or healthy 'yellow' babies! Great to hear everyone's good news. Sorry to the laties, must be really frustrating to hear about other people's scans and have to wait. Mine is tomorrow and we are finding out because I just like to be organised and prepared, like should I give away all of dd's clothes or start washing it etc. Fingers crossed for a healthy scan.

Definitely try out buggies, all of my mummy friends are using different pushchairs to the one they originally bought. I paid extra to buy the bugaboo bee but I've spent less than all the other mums I know because I'm the only one who's still using it. Also we got it at a baby show where they have loads of offers and we got the cabriofix maxi cosi car seat for free which was a huge saving! Also if anyone's looking into changing bags the skip hop ones clip onto the handle bars and actually stay in place, so useful.

conchita I hope you're feeling better.

addicted congrats in your niece! I hope you get to see her soon, her DH sounds like a nightmare.

Oh and I've been sleeping so well since my hypnobirthing cd arrived, I was really surprised as it always takes me ages to fall asleep.

Right I NEED chocolate! And now!

Minstrelsaremarvellous · 18/08/2011 14:37

Can I join? Am due 31/01/12 but have only just got through amnio with clear results when I was 1:65 risk. 20wk scan on 14th Sept so I think I might be the last of the January gang?

ParsleyLion1 · 18/08/2011 15:12

Welcome Minstrels I'm 30/1, so we are very close :)

knittiekitty · 18/08/2011 15:31

Hi Minstrel and welcome - great to hear you're through all the worrying stuff! I had the cvs test with my dd and just worried constantly, so big belated hug to you and bump.

I bet your banana bread is gorgeous Fryn, homemade always sells and tastes miles better than shop cake. I've made a gingerbread this afternoon to take in for the ladies at dd's nursery. I'm going to miss them all so much when dd starts school in a few weeks. They're so caring and wonderful with the kids and seem to be unofficial therapists for the mum's too.

I pushed our pram for miles so it's worth taking time picking, especially first timers who'll hopefully be spending next summer trekking to the local park to find the other mum's (assuming it stops raining!). We have a Bebe Confort which seemed state of the art 4 years ago and now looks old styley! I loved the way the car seat fitted to the wheels for quick car trips and was surprised by how often strangers would peek into the pram to coo at dd. She would never 'perform' with smiles or gurgles but would stare blankly with her cheeks puffed out.

When is it going to stop raining...I have washing to dry and think cabin fever is setting in.

mummyzoe2012 · 18/08/2011 16:24

hiya all, i ordered my cot for baby this morning will get it tomorrow some time, only the pram to go now and thats when my parents want to buy it for us. they are thinking after 20 week scan which is 7th september and im going to need some flat sheats for the cot and blue/pink clothes only buying 5 outfits as ive got 5 that would do either and ill no doubtbly get loads off family. and the cot mobile then im done!

shonnomanom · 18/08/2011 17:02

I can sympathise with all the end of the monthers. I was due 22May with Dd and felt like everyone on the thread had their babies early and ofcourse Dd was 8 days late. Was starting to think she wanted to be a June baby. Its kinda refreshing to be at the start of the month this time although I would rather that it wasnt the Festive Season. You have that to be thankful for ladies x

Cant agree enough with trying before buying, with most things actually but especially prams. I got the Graco Quattro Travel System for Dd and it has been great. So much so my cousin also got it and my sister got the Mothercare version which looks the same, costs more but fell apart 2 days after the warranty expired Hmm Its a great pram for walks and car but no great for public transport as quite heavy.
My sis inlaw just bought the Graco Fusio which is lovely. Its lightweight and rear/forward facing. The carseat can clip right on to the wheels as well. I actually tried to justify buying it to DP, he wouldnt let me.

Congrats on your niece addicted x

BunMyOven · 18/08/2011 18:35

Hope you get to see your niece soon Addicted. My first nephew was born 4 weeks ago up in Wales, 2 more weeks to go until I get to see him - can't wait! Smile

I'm another end of the monther - EDD 27th, like you say though Shonnom am glad we'll be clear of the festive season - will be very happy if we can make it into February as my sister's birthday is in January Grin DS was 11 days late so fingers crossed my uterus is still as comfy! Wink
I'm still green with envy at all the scans atm though, haha!

trubble · 18/08/2011 18:47

v v envious of those of you that got to hear the heart beat at week 16. They won't do that round us until after the week 20 scan. Oh well - another thing to look forward to next week.

BigHotMama · 18/08/2011 18:49

ghost thank you for compliment on pics, Jackson is my boy and the little girl Indie is his cousin, glad you like the names we do too Smile

Hi fryn am sure us lateys will be around to cheer each other on and swap ideas of bringing on the labour just hope I don't have to be induced as I will cry as didn't work last time. Can't believe your doctors didn't bother to let u know re app that's frustrating!

Good luck for scan chocamum am very interested to know which hypnobirthing cd you have? Thinking of trying one out.

Welcome minstrels and congratulations your another latey I'm due on 25th.

I know this is going to be a bit tmi but is anybody having heavier discharge from down below? I seem to be wiping away extra over past several weeks it's only when I go to toilet so not heavy in pants but just don't remember this last time round? Sorry if your eating your tea Blush

BigHotMama · 18/08/2011 18:52

Same here trubble was quite gutted after mw told me they didnt do that until 25 wks? I read it in lots of books n mags that it's what should be happening Sad ITS NOT FAIR!

BigHotMama · 18/08/2011 18:53

Just curious where are you from trubble??

trubble · 18/08/2011 19:48

BigHotMama I'm in Woking. Have been tempted to get a doppler but then didn't just in case I couldn't find the heart beat and then scare myself silly!

fishandlilacs · 18/08/2011 19:48

bighot and trubble I was told the same, "we dont try and listen in yet as it's too early"

I know I had it done and was able to record DD's on my phone at 16 weeks last time. I have the file dated on my PC.

20 wk scan in 10 days. I also have 3 growth scans later on in nov and dec too :)

fishandlilacs · 18/08/2011 19:50

PS were in worcestershire.

makescakes i listened to that podcast, about the first 1000 days. Very interesting stuff-not to mention PRESSURE! I got scared of my nutrition in early regnany as it consisted of greggs cheese and onion pasties and jelly sweets Blush

Oeisha · 18/08/2011 20:05

Welcome Minstrel!

addicted Congrats on the neice. Sounds like your BIL's a bit of a prick!

BHM Yarp. Me too, 18wks here and it's only been for the last few days. But then I find it difficult to tell what's 'normal' after having had thrush for weeks. No sign of that coming back though.

Got another headache. I'm so bloody tired it's unreal. It's not like work was overly stressful today of anything either. Just want to be asleep. I'm trying to make a conscious effort to eat more, will just have to wait and see if that halts the weight loss. Just don't want to eat anything at the moment...and there's only so much fruit you can eat (seems to be the only thing I want to graze on) before you go mad.

I think this is the most recent version of the list...hopefully it is anyway. Newbs, feel free to copy&paste&add yourselves!

Spagbolagain · 18/08/2011 20:20

Evening all. So we had our scan today, still team yellow as planned!

All looked ok apart from the baby had a high abdominal circumference (just above 97th centile). Sonographer said that might mean I need a glucose test, as apparently it can mean an increased risk of gestational diabetes, but she didn't give me any more info than that, so I'll have to call my midwife on monday. I am a bit overweight, bmi 27, but I didn't think that would make me very high risk. Hopefully it's just a slightly chubby baby, although I do know it is linked to large birth weights, and our family does have a track record of hefty offspring....

Also it said on my notes that my scan was suboptimal due to maternal increased bmi, which I was a bit Hmm about, as it's not like I am massive, and my slight excess poundage is all on my bum and thighs, not my middle, am a real pear shape. Anybody who has any experience or insight into any of this abdominal circumference stuff please share!!!

Anyway, sigh, I'll hopefully know more on Monday. Other than that all was well, baby was really active so I was in there ages, had to keep changing position, getting up etc to try and get it in right position for viewing heart. It didn't stop writhing around the whole time.

fishandlilacs · 18/08/2011 20:29

spagbol dont' worry about the stuff on your notes-my BMI is way way over yours, they make you feel like a feckin leper :(

I also hate hate the assumption that GD is almost always related to the mums' bmi-I know it is in some cases but it isn't a given. I know skinny mums who have had it, middling mums who have had it and myself who is far far from skinny didn't have it. Even though I was told by a consultant the first time round "with a BMI as high as yours, you are almost guaranteed to get gestational diabetes" fuckwit, go back to university and learn some bedside manners please.

ParsleyLion1 · 18/08/2011 20:36

spagbol I have to have a Lucozade test at 28 wks for diabetes due to age. MW said theyleft it until 28wks as they can say for sure then.

My BMI is 27 as well - nobody has mentioned it as an issue yet. On the MW notes the increased risk was only for people over 30bmi (and over 35 age)

MakesCakesWhenStressed DC1 EDD 12/1/12 scan 25/8/11

Ugh -so tired and want to be asleep, but have fierce raging heartburn and restless legs and I can;t sleep so I'm going to sit here, read stoopid threads on MN and cry.

ChocaMum · 18/08/2011 22:51

Welcome minstrel, I hope you have recovered from the stress of the amnio. Congratulations on expecting a January baby!

oeisha the only thing I fancy is fruit too, and that's only because I'm making myself eat something. Definitely too scared to listen to the blog as I already feel sorry for bubba.

bighot I have the Marie Mogan book and cd which was sent to me by the woman who will be doing the course in November that I've signed up to. She suggested starting it now to help with the sickness and sleep. I was very dubious at first because this Marie woman is talking on it and I thought there's no way I can fall asleep to somebody talking. 5 mins later I was knocked out Grin I've never fallen asleep so quickly in my life! Oh yeah also having ridiculous amount of discharge, really don't remember having this last time. Blush

makescakes heartburn already is so annoying. I hope you get some sleep and don't get goo stressed on crazy MN threads. If you have yo read them go the active thread on MN guide on how not to raise a kid, made me laugh after a long miserable day. Hope you manage to Grin after reading it too!

Nanny01 · 18/08/2011 23:18

Spagbolagain- yes that was what the sonographer said to me , my bmi is higher than yours. I try not to worry about things as being fat is the new smoking that they want to worry us. I sure they just want to mitigate themselves from being sued just in case they miss something.

ParsleyLion1 - think mine is 43 so far more ot worry at , basically if you fall outside the normal range they wan to test you for everything.
