I love that you prefaced that list of disasters with 'all went ok'

LaBobkin · 02/09/2011 10:18

Hi all, long time no speak, gosh this is a lovely chatty thread! Just checking in. Had 20 week (actually 21 + 4, but who's counting) scan on Tuesday. All is fine and still team yellow. Very relieved to see that all the anxiety I had about them finding something turned out to be a waste of time. I think it happened because I read the leaflet the midwife gave me about what they check for in great detail and found out they were checking for stuff I didn't even know was possible. Perhaps it really is true about knowing too much. Anyway all good which is great news. DH is really excited now too.

Off to buy some 'real' maternity clothes this week - belly really popped out a few days ago and till now I've been getting away with odd things that fit me from my normal wardrobe plus a few hand me downs from my sister. Found that this month's Prima Mother & Baby has a voucher for 20% off at New Look so bought that (mag costs £2.80 and does actually have some interesting stuff in it) and will be checking them out - really need work clothes!

Fryn · 02/09/2011 10:25

ghost - glad to hear that DH is going to sort it out! I'm sure I'd go completely off the rails and then sit on the doorstep and wail! Although I'm impressed that your DH has volunteered for anything after yesterday's escapade! Poor sod.

Went to yoga last night, which was a nice hour away from DD's incessant "what's that?" questions, although I'm alarmingly stiff given that it was basically a bit of hip wiggling and ahhhhing! Hadn't realised how unfit I've become. Sigh.

mumnos - still chortling about your trousers!

GiraffeAHolic · 02/09/2011 10:34

Morning everyone,

Here goes with my random question of the day:

Is anyone else's bump a few degrees cooler than the rest of the body? Even in bed I will be nice and warm but the bump will be cold to the touch Hmm

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/09/2011 10:45

Sorrygiraffe - hadn't noticed that.

I do however have one of my own - has anyone noticed baba responding to certain stimuli? Mine jumps about a lot more when heat is applied (warm hand, warm cat or wheat bag, doesn't matter!) and kicks like Bruce Lee when poked, which is now DH's and my favourite game - poke the bump and wait for it to kick! Great fun!

shonnomanom · 02/09/2011 10:49

Morning All! Hope your all well and those of you havng emotional times and cat issues are feeling brighter.

supa Do you mind me asking just what your physio session consisted of please? Iv never been to physio before and I have my appointment on Tuesday afternoon at 1pm then have to go straight to work then straight to Brownies so Im a bit concerned that im going to be in agony afterwards.
I have(I think) a pregnancy/post pregnancy pilates or yoga dvd from last pregnancy. TBH think I only used it once. Must look it out if I could help the PGP.

Dp bought me some Radox to help ease the pain. Was very surprising as he is always full of lovely ideas but never carries them out, which is why after 9 years together im still waiting on the engagement ring he promised me Hmm

Welcome newbies and goodluck/congrats to alll scanners today!

shonnomanom · 02/09/2011 10:52

Sorry giraffe and cakes I havent experienced either. However this bubba is very similar to when Dd was in there. Never performs if anyone has their hand on bump. Except for myself ofcourse. Last time I was nearly 8 months before DP felt baby.

supadupapupascupa · 02/09/2011 10:59

shonno It was mainly a chat about symptoms, and then she asked me to move about so she could feel my joints moving which confirmed what I had been saying. Then she manipulated my stiff joint on the couch (i didn't think she did much tbh but it has made a difference).
Lot of explanations about why the pain is there and what to do about it.
Then she filled in my notes and gave me some crutches :-)

hth

ghosteditor · 02/09/2011 11:03

cakes, that was a relatively uneventful trip for DH Wink

I haven't really noticed either of those things [wails]. Pamplemousse is failing to perform for DH at all, though I blame the enormous anterior placenta that we can see in the scan - most of the kicks I feel are right around the edges of my bump, though I swear my left kidney got a good boshing the other day. I think we just need to be a bit lazier and hang around on the sofa more - it's a bit unreasonable to expect ppm to start kicking during the five mins a day we actually sit down together before going to sleep!

Welcome back laBobkin and great news on the scan!

fryn I'm sure you'll be all limber again in no time...

Oeisha · 02/09/2011 11:14

fish the MABT1 isn't the free script/dental form, it's the one they essentially use for tax reasons.
You should have been given the information with your booking apt/12wk apt. The MW/HCP has to countersign, so it's usually done then* - though I am surprised at the number of women that seem to not get told about this right.
Have a look at this
*I didn't have to do a thing. MW just filled it all in for me and I got mine at 9wks.
Dentists are ususlly happy to 'wait' for the Matex card number, whilst pharmacists will give you an official NHS receipt to claim back any script charges.
parsley 'NHS' or not, they can claim the costs back for your dental care with the Matex, though they sound utterly reasonable, so yay!

Parsley I'd just go back to wired, padded bras, and take the M&S ones back. Shocking advise and an admittance that they're not confident they're fitting properly. M&S seem to not understand how breasts work! Very few women, infact none that see them if they're fitting properly, will be wearing wires ON their breast tissue, so it's fine to wear them until baby's kicking the life out of your ribs....at which point they're likely to become uncomfy. I asked, and as a 'j' cup ONLY M&S recommended a switch to non-wired. I just laughed at her...which she rightfully took offence to as it was a little rude, but really?! JL and Bravissimo, as well as most independents will fit women in wires if they're used to them/are so large they're going to get backache out of wires. - You can tell M&S Piss me off slightly right?!

Re: cat feeding debate. I agree, go down the 'controlled diet' route. It's an utter nightmare. Low carb, no grain, raw only, diabetic, no veg diets are all good ideas.... But remeber, ultimatly, legally your cat is your property. If s/he's chipped, with your details, then they have no leg to stand on legally.

Re: thrush...get it treated now. Hit it with everything...you can use pessaries, though if looking pg most pharmacists will insist on a script. After not really being sure and pussy-footing (HA!) about with cream only for weeks (I mean 8 wks) of pg I finally got the pessary. After 2 rounds of treatment with pessary&cream, we're back to regular humping...thankfully. Was going MAD... Might be worth treating DH with cream for a few days too as you don't want it back...

Wow! I'm sooo opinionated it's not funny...

Anyway, Ikea kinda went well. Was really nice, but I got that "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" feeling again. I know in 4 weeks time in theory, we could have her HERE...albeit a very prem and ill baby, but it's all still freaking me out. I'm finding nursery planning very weird and am kinda distant from it. Getting bits and pieces, like the monitor, and a Spoka but nothing coordinated. Though I do have the John Lewis list too... Anyone else feeling like this? I keep wondering with my history, whether I should be looking at PND, but it doesn't feel like depression...

...off to stack the dishwasher, have some luch and go to work...

GL to any scanners today!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/09/2011 11:15

ghost - true - bubba does like to bounce around when I'm in bed or mooching on the sofa. Joys of working from home is there's lots of that!

Oeisha · 02/09/2011 11:18

ghost I have an anterior placenta too. I'm desperate for DH to feel stuff...at the moment Yolkis is on her head (unsusual girl), so am getting lots of bashing about on my cervix...which DH just keeps missing...I don't mind him going there, but DO mind others going that far down...so try doing some handstands, see if that encourages ppm to do a similar thing! Grin

Nanny01 · 02/09/2011 11:30

Morning every one. Sounds like every one has been busy. I;m suffering really bad acid reflux at the moment. The consultant prescribed renitadine and though it works the headaches it gave me weren't worth it so I'm back to my chewy ant acids. Any one else with the acid problem?

GiraffeAHolic · 02/09/2011 11:47

Ah well I guess CM-RD is just cold blooded Grin

Dh actually felt 2 kicks last night for the first time at 22 weeks and 5 days Smile

Apparently Dd also has a baby in her tummy and walks around holding her tummy going "ooh ooh my baby is kicking me" could be fun back at nursery next week.

CM-RD also responds to temperature, a warm hand (on my cold bump Blush) or being submerged in a bath, also movement in response to dd's voice.

Yes to heartburn/acid. Gaviscon is my best friend but I get strange looks carrying it round with me so have remegel in my handbag

ghosteditor · 02/09/2011 12:13

oh god yes to the acid and heartburn. I've been suffering since about week eight, I think, but I didn't know what it was (and flailed and fretted on here if I recall correctly). GP didn't see me but prescribed over the phone and said he didn't like to prescribe Gaviscon during pregnancy as it is too high in sodium (or salt?). I have what we have christened pseudo-scon instead Grin but must admit to carrying a tiny box of Gaviscon tablets with me for emergencies/small handbags.

I pretty much suffer with it all day every day, but it's not bad enough to wake me and is definitely worst during the afternoon. I'm a bit rubbish at taking medicine but I don't think this is even absorbed - just sits on the stomach. My sympathies all round!

ghosteditor · 02/09/2011 12:15

and oeisha I did a headstand the other day, just to see if I still could (it's a yoga move)- can manage it now but with the extra weight around my waist and changes to ab muscles I suspect I'll be too wobbly before long. Or did you mean to suggest doing it the responsible grown up way against a wall? Grin

supadupapupascupa · 02/09/2011 12:15

no heartburn for me yet! 20 weeks today.

i suffered with it really badly with DS1 so I know it is on it's way Sad

Nanny01 · 02/09/2011 13:04

I've had it like ghosteditor from 8 weeks to. I end up retching at some point in the day and jsut bring up pure acid. I can't stomach gaviscon so hoped that the renitadine would be ok. Hope it won't get any worse. I have stopped eating all sorts of stuff to stop it but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I like remegel but had to have 4 in an hour last night as it was really bad.

redheadbedhead · 02/09/2011 13:04

Hi LaBobokin - welcome to the January club Smile

oh Fryn you good girl. I chickened out of yoga. I suspected I might Blush

I definitely have a cooler bump. But not really any kicks on a regular basis Sad I still don't really know when it's kicking me and when it isn't. Please, somebody the same week as me (19-20) say they're the same!! I feel left out!!

redheadbedhead · 02/09/2011 13:05

sorry, spelled your name wrong LaBobkin Blush

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/09/2011 13:45

I uploaded my fave pic from the scan to my profile, if anyone wants a look. Am I going to sound like a crazy infatuated mummy if I say that I think it looks like its daddy already?

ghosteditor · 02/09/2011 13:46

so cute! waving!!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/09/2011 14:04

I know, I love it, though I think it's actually punching up at the sonographer's scanner - like I said, it always punches or kicks when we poke my tummy!

I love how it looks like waving though - am soppy in love :-)

fishandlilacs · 02/09/2011 18:56

Oiesha I cant belive that about the pregancy exemption-I am frickin livid, I have been in pain with toothache for weeks but not going because i cant afford it! Grr.

Still no sex for us :( I dunno why really, I am just really self concious. I think that I smell a bit y'know down there-i'm sure I dont really but it's different from before and it's putting me off. I only want to in the mornings but dd is always here. Night times I am too knackered to care!

ParsleyLion1 · 02/09/2011 19:04

Thanks ladies for the suggestions :)

bighot I did buy that one but like you amd finding it narrow across the back
oeisha I think I might get another fitting elsewhere as you suggest. I'm only a D cup but not getting on with the non underwires at so many levels. I've got bigger boobs and they look half the size they did before in these bras - I might as well take advantage of one of the plusses!

giraffe My bump is actually really hot some days - like my boobs were when they were stretching. I'm assuming it's stretching again.

red I'm not sure whether I'm feeling anything or not either - I'm 18 +5
