And we're back......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
addictediam · 17/08/2011 16:20

My sister has gone in to labour! (my adult sister not my 14mo one!) I'm so excited, i can't wait to see if she has a blue or pink one Grin

Nanny01 · 17/08/2011 17:02

Hi
mummyzoe wish I was allowed to, have to buy boaring but essential school uniform this month. As for me feel lucky as I have my new maternity clothes, will have to send a few things back for different colour and size but what I have got I am really pleased about.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 17/08/2011 18:21

I wish I had a nursery to decorate - I have a great plan in my head of how it'd look - sunshine yellow walls, blue curtains with clouds on (if I could find the fabric, but I'm sure it's out there) and a rainbow theme in other places like the mobile OK - so that description sounds garish, but it's beautiful in my head. Oh well - one day.

advance congrats to you and your sister addicted

Spagbolagain · 17/08/2011 18:59

Ooooh I was all convinced that we would find our at the scan tomorrow, but then I clicked on cakes link and am now not sure!!
(loved the thread btw, glad the snarking was resolved :) )

I really want to find out, but I can't shake off the feeling that somehow I shouldn't. I can't really give a reason why though. Something to do with the feeling that I should just be grateful if the baby is healthy I think. My nuchal results weren't brilliant, and my DS had small heart problem which means we are at increased risk of congenital defects in future, so we'll get a separate fetal heart scan for that. So whatever colour we are, I will be so happy if all looks well. But I also really think I might want to know the gender :o
Mainly so we can decide a name with only 50% of the arguments. We wouldn't tell anybody else what it is though.

Please stop all this talk of cakes. I want some cakes. I have no cakes and no ingredients to make any. I have some Jaffa cake bars, but I don't think they count....

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 17/08/2011 19:16

Interesting item on Radio 4 today (was listening whilst stuck in heinous traffic jam) about the first 1000 days of a baby's life (from conception to 2 years old) and how vital decent nutrition was. If you get the chance I'd strongly recommend a listen - you can acces the podcast here

trubble · 17/08/2011 19:16

Only 9 days to wait until scan - seems an age away. Just really looking forward to seeing bubs again. Dh wants to know pink/blue and I'm a little in 2 minds - although having just caught up on here I'm starting to change my mind. Not been able to feel anything yet so actually seeing will give me peace of mind.
First big buy has been done - random browsing on ebay on sunday am resulted in purchase of a Quinny with all the bits for 199. Ok, so it's now taking up most of the downstairs of the house but it's one thing off the list.
Best find so far - Waitrose low alcohol cider. 0.5 units a pint, tastes scrummy and virtually guilt free treat for a special occasion.

ghosteditor · 17/08/2011 20:07

Sorry to make it worse spag but I am just about to finish my first cake in my shiny new oven - spiced pound cake, yum!

On finding out whether its boy/girl - it's a tough one! You don't actually have to tell people if you find out, btw Grin

BigHotMama · 17/08/2011 21:33

Great to hear scan news feel like I'm way behind got over 3 wks yet for mine (boo!) and we're not finding out the sex so glad myself and dh agree on this, but I do know I'll be gagging to know when we have scan. Dh said we're having a boy as he had a premonition and I always thought I'd have two boys for some reason although would love a girl I feel like it will be a blue one.

Not bought a sausage yet but sister baby is 10 months now so stuff we lent her we'll have back and stuff she has got she will lend so only clothes to buy hopefully.

Gutted at my 16 wk mw app yesterday as they don't listen in for heartbeat until nxt app at 25 wks??? Was quite pissed off after as psyched myself up for listening out for a train or horse.

shonnomanom · 17/08/2011 21:49

Unfortunately cakes there are some people on MN that are just out for for an arguement. Forget her. You know your reasons for and against finding out the gender. Its not up to anayone else what you and your OH decide to do.
For me, if we were to find out the gender I would be secretly terrified that had made a mistake.

Addict How exciting, hope everything is well for your sister and bubba!

Summer is officially over here! Schools went back today. Will be good to get back to some normality and routine. Hopefully Dd will start behaving better - end of summer blues I hope.

Bought some lovely mat jeans from next today. Love wearing jeans and feeling normalish again. Getting tired of leggings. Also got myself a new warm jacket. Not maternity, got it in a bigger size in the hope that it will be wearable throughout the winter. I hope!

Conchita · 17/08/2011 22:23

Hi everyone, good luck for the upcoming scans and hope they go well.
makescakes it's truly horrible when someone attacks you isn't it? although it seems like she came over more strident than she meant and at least she apologised in the end. Think it's too easy to type without thinking, especially when you don't know somebody else situation. As a first-time mum I can find the spats on MN a bit scary, I don't want to be one of those people who is so wrapped up in their way of parenting that they attack everyone else. That said, I used to be on a wedding forum and that was even worse, people being rude because somebody else was having a different type or dress or ceremony to them Hmm
I am feeling a bit grumpy today as got a horrible pain in my jaw and hay fever and can't take much for either. Think the jaw pain may be an erupting wisdom tooth, which seems to be a problem in pg. But the pain is all the way up to my ear so with that and itchy sinuses my whole head is very unhappy. And worst of all it hurts to eat Sad

debs39 · 17/08/2011 23:00

makes cakes I read thread and have read recent other threads and it is strange how people can be q sharp / vitriolic on MN...I Know it is not RL but almost as if cyberspace gives people the 'confidence' to play devil's advocate and play games to get arguments going etc.... Just remember who your RL friends and family are and remember there are some v nice MNers on here too.

Think being preg can make us all a bit sensitive though ...or in my case 'enraged'!!!

Am still at the looking podgy rather than preg stage ... when was at gym doing combat last night, the instructor kept on coming over to tell me more or less to give it more welly...nearly gave her a jab in the face instead...whoooops!!!!

PS don't worry - have already checked with gym manager and am ok to do class as long as do at own pace...which i was trying to do grrrr before Mrs Super Combat Woman came and tried to get me to give it a bit more ooomph!!! Wouldn't care but half the class were doing really sloppy technique..I was just a bit more sedate in my jabs and crosses...until next week when i will give her a swift left hook if she comes and corrects my technique again!!!

PPS reminder to self to stop eating raw meat...it makes me anggggrrrrryyyyy!!!

redheadbedhead · 18/08/2011 06:57

Raw meat?????? eeeeeek

BigHotMama me and you both lady - I feel really far behind too. Haven't got my midwife appt til next weds, and no scan date Sad We'll catch up with the others soon enough I guess! When's your due date again?

I've also only bought a few babygro's, feels too weird buying all the other stuff , altho I have started hunting for the pram I'm thinking of on Ebay - anyone got anything to say about the Maclaren Techno xt?? MN seems to think it's a winner...

Conch hope your face feels a bit nicer today Sad sounds horrid.

Cakes - I'm worried to listen to that link in that for the first 3.5 months of this pregnancy I basically ate only toast/biscuits/cake. Everything else got chucked up.... is it going to scare the bejeesus out of me finding out how vital nutrition is...? Sad I'm still not really eating very healthily either although my protein has increased...

redheadbedhead · 18/08/2011 07:10

BigHotMama - just checked out your profile page and see you're a musician like me Grin And your wedding picture is GORGEOUS!!!!! Blush

addictediam · 18/08/2011 08:00

Redhot I'm a later one too - my 16wk app is next wed then 20wk scan still feels forever away!

My sister had a baby girl Grin don't know when I'm going to meet her Sad her stupid dh and idiotic 'feelings' and selfish ways and arguing with my mum may mean he wont let me (he didn't even ring my mum when she had the baby my sis had to ring Angry.) but that's a whole other ranty thread

addictediam · 18/08/2011 08:02

Sorry I got you both mixed up redhead and bighot!

redheadbedhead · 18/08/2011 08:07

'redhot' - i like it!! wish I'd thought of that now! - although also a handy way to talk to both of us at once!!

and sorry but WTF??? how can your BIL stop you seeing your niece???? doesn't your sis have anything to say about that?? sounds like a twunt. (the BIL, not your sis!)

BigHotMama · 18/08/2011 08:29

Hello redhead! Yes I'm a singer mainly in a band but do all sorts of gigs at wkends. What do you do? It's great job isn't it? And thanks for compliment re wedding pic but that day was nearly 7 yrs ago so put on few stone since then eek. Looks like our edd's are close your 23rd and I'm 25th so we can moan to each other when we're left stranded and the others have had their bubbas in jan my ds was 2 weeks late so expecting something similar with this smurf.

Congratulations on birth of your neice Addicted hope your sister let's you visit families are tricky at times aren't they? And lmao at 'redhot' sounds saucy Wink

addictediam · 18/08/2011 09:11

My sister is a very gentil person who doesnt like arguments so won't question his controlling ways Sad still looks like we may be able to see them Sept (if they decide to come on holiday with us.)

Big hot my official edd is 4/2 although I think it will be early.

Redhead I ment to say make sure you go somewhere like mc to try out the pushchair before buying, other people may think its great but if what is important to you is a shopping basket or it being sturdy to support your weight (friend of mine walked with crutches so pushchair had to take their place) make sure you are 100% happy.

I'm talking from exp here I had 2 because after 2 weeks i HATED mine but had to use it until baby was 12 weeks and I convinced dh & found money for a new one!

ghosteditor · 18/08/2011 09:18

Haven't read all of the posts yet but just wanted to say that after what conchita said, I couldn't resist looking at bighotmama's photo page - (beautiful kiddies by the way!) and spotted two little ones with two of my favourite names ever! Good taste lady! Grin

ghosteditor · 18/08/2011 09:20

whoops I mean what readhead said Blush

(not a morning person...)

ghosteditor · 18/08/2011 09:20

FFS!!!! REDHEAD

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 18/08/2011 09:37

conchita - would a heat pack help at all? I always find them very soothng when I'm in pain. Hope you improve anyway.

I've decided which buggy I want - luckily the in-laws offered to get us it. it's the baby jogger city stroller and I love it because it's light and easy to steer, nice and sturdy, collapses so easily and it's suitable from birth so should see us through until this one is ready to walk/go on the buggy board and we can think about no.2 (eek) I would second trying them out in person though - the height of the handle and everything is so important. Luckily I'm just around the corner from the babyworld showroom and they're really helpful there - good advice an dlet me play with all the buggies.

Right. Now I've decimated my ironing pile I'm going to eat a brownie (cos fuck it, I had porridge and strawberries for breakfast so I can justify it) then go to my bumps and babies group! TTFN :)

BunMyOven · 18/08/2011 09:42

Hi all! So lovely to hear about the fabulous scans - congratulations!

I had my 16 week check on Tuesday and got to hear the hearbeat which was amazing (and very horsey! Grin) Got 3 weeks to wait until the 20week scan which feels like forever! We'll be going up to Wales in 2 weeks for DP's mum's wedding so that'll help break up the wait hopefully. It's a 6or7 hour drive each way with a 2yo though so not particularly excited about the prospect.

Sorry, I've missed lots!

ParsleyLion1 · 18/08/2011 10:19

MakesCakes that was my first option on the buggy but I'm too tall for it - wish it had adjustable handles :(

addictediam · 18/08/2011 11:04

Have you tried to lift that pushchair up over a curb? I looked at that one but it was too heavy for me. But for others its probably fine. (sorry don't want to put you off that one, just thought I'd check)
