Big scan for me today...and hubby flying home for a course next week so coming home today at 8.30 so he will be there too!! V last minute!! Kind of scuppers my plans to find out bbs' gender and pretend I hadn't found out...may sneak a word with nurse beforehand and ask if they can note it down in my preg notes (come on, he isn't going to ever read those is he ha ha )...

He is so flipping stressed at the moment with potential redundancy and being overseas etc etc that don't think he even realises today is the big day anyway...ha ha...he will be so whacked after being up since 7am yesterday that I could prob drop him off at home and let him sleep for 8 hrs...like he normally does when he flies home!!! Poor love....wouldn't / shouldn't / couldn't do that to him though!!

My little boy ( 4yrs) is soo excited for daddy coming home...was so so funny yesterday when he was talking to granny and grandad on the phone and he knew he couldn't tell them daddy was en route...he is about as good as me ie abysmally bad at keeping secrets!!!

Shall report in if all goes well today - if not may just lurk a while...have a doppler so know all ok with bbs heartbeat etc etc but feel like I kind of lucked out when I got my amazing little boy .. : (

ParsleyLion1 · 19/08/2011 08:20

Good luck debs fx everything goes well for you :)

Nanny01 I think if you are just outside the norm in anyway they make that the big deal tbh. I'm getting tested for everything due to age and it gets mentioned about 10 times each appt. To be fair the GP did warn me at 6 weeks to get used to it as it would be mentioned a LOT!

chocamum - yay - another hypnobirther :-) Are you doing your course in November too?

Good luck with the scan debs

Got to sleep before midnight in the end and slept through till after 7am, so a pretty good night in the end and now it's all lovely and sunny. I think it's down to my sister - she always seems to bring good weather with her when she comes to visit :)

Livened · 19/08/2011 09:23

I'm so jealous about everyone's scans coming in the next few days! My EDD is 16/01/12 but I still have to wait until the 6th September for mine... we've decided to find out the sex of bump so we can decide on names and also so it starts to feel more like part of the family already. I like the idea of being able to imagine the kind of person they will be!

I've ordered a doppler from tinterweb yesterday - probably going to scare myself silly but I've got such a worry on my mind about the tiny size of my bump and also lack of movement the last day or so...

I'm coming up to 19 weeks so know its far to early to get regular kicks etc, but if one more person says "where are you hiding it!", or "my wife/sister/cousin was huge by 4 months.." I'm going to lose the plot.

Sorry for the rant - this is such a joyful a happy thread and a great source of amusement and comfort at the end of a long day at work, but I just had to share my little worry (its my first baby so I worry about most things!).

x

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 19/08/2011 09:31

Don't worry livened - we've all been there, I'm sure. I was stressing that I hadn;t felt sproglet jump around much, right up until last Sunday (when I was 18+3) and now I can;t seem to get it to settle down :-)

Plus - none of us are ever the right sie according to random people - I was saying earlier how my evil MiL was making snide comments on FB about how enormous I am - gee, thanks. Just try and stay zen and you'll feel bubs when it's ready. I find if I do lots of rushing about and then sit still for a bit that's when I'm most likely to get some gymnastics going, but it's still a bit hit or miss at the moment :-)

Chin up!

shonnomanom · 19/08/2011 09:59

Shock at your Mil cakes how rude of her!
Glad you managed to get a decent nights sleep. Heartburn is the devil! I used to get it really bad but have been ok for a few months. Although its starting to rear its ugly looking head again. So far no need for Gaviscon but the cupbard is always stocked.

Try not to worry yourself livened every baby like every person is different. You'l probably wake one morning with a huge bump that wasnt there the night before. If your 19wks just now you will start to feel a lot more over the coming weeks. They say it can take up 22wks for some first timers. Smile! x

Welcome minstrel!

Good luck today debs Happy days having your OH back for a while

Hope everyone is well. Cant believe its Friday already. Very quick week me thinks x

addictediam · 19/08/2011 10:07

Cakes when my mum was pg she has really bad restless leg syndrome. She cut out all aspartimine (including all other names) and almost overnight it went! If you Google restless leg syndrome there are lots of things you can do to help.

Good luck debs

Livened I think we have all taken a turn in moaning on this thread. Were all in the same boat and totaly understand.

Fryn · 19/08/2011 10:18

livened I didn't feel DD1 until gone 20 weeks last time - although it doesn't help when everyone else seems to be feeling them much earlier!

debs39 - how lovely that DH will be at the scan (bar the scuppered plans!)

makescakes - I can't believe your MIL! Sneakily delete her from your friends list and then deny all knowledge. What a cow.

knittiekitty - by the time I made it to the cake sale my banana bread had either been bought or binned! Anyway, didn't see anyone looking too ill when I dropped DD off this morning, so hopefully it was ok.

choco - we have a Bee as well. Absolutely loved it (especially when we lived in a 2nd floor flat, and I could carry it and DD up the stairs). We did end up getting a Maclaren as well though, just because the Bee's a bit of a pain to fold up on buses and filled our boot!

On the buggy front, for anyone who's looking, I would say make sure you check that the buggy fits in your car - the number we tried which either just didn't fit, or would have involved taking off wheels to get them in, was frankly rather alarming. Admittedly we only have a poky 106!

spagbol - at my 12 week scan, the picture was apparently suboptimal due to "maternal gas" - now that was embarrassing!

And welcome minstrel!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 19/08/2011 10:42

Addicted I don't eat any artificial sweeteners ever. I think the prob was that I had missed my pregnancy supplement that morning and I think the extra magnesium really helps me. Oh well - remembered today's!

Nanny01 · 19/08/2011 10:54

Help the nesting instinct has really kicked in now, dh says he wants to buy stuff in the sales after Christmas when baby is here but I just want to start buying things slowly over the next few months as we have to get quite a bit.Suddenly it doesn't seem so far of as we will have 3 birthdays and Christmas to sort to. I always do this each time promising myself I won't get in a frenzy. To be fair I didn't buy anything till 20 weeks which for me is good.
Fryn- have already tried a few and will have problems as we have a 7 seater and when this little chap arrives there will be very little space left for anything. Will probably have to have a basic umbrella fold and another for when all the family is out and it is just me and baby at home.

Livened · 19/08/2011 11:17

Thank you thank you all! It's so nice to have support on here - my DH is superb, as is my mum so I know how lucky I am, but sometimes you just need to hear advice someone who's been there...

On a positive note I spoke to the midwife this morning and so far it's 10/10 for their care - they have been amazing so far and this re-assures me so much for the coming months and (gulp) labour.

I'm going to watch Horrible Bosses movie at the Trafford Centre later which will cheer me up and also my laughter might get bubs going a bit.

Thanks again for the support x

debs39 · 19/08/2011 11:49

We're having a boy...yippeee!!!!!!!!! DC ( boy ) will be thrilled and as there is 5 yr age gap am pleased he has a boy as hope this will make them closer!!!!!!!

ghosteditor · 19/08/2011 12:05

oh that's lovely news, congrats debs! Did your DH come along in the end, and was he happy to find out the sex?

cakes sorry to hear about lack of sleep/restless legs/heartburn. Have been there with all of them but not at the same time! My latest is that my back is all clunky and I think one of my ribs is stuck in the wrong place - I can feel it as soon as I wake up at the moment. Must see my physio but at £40 a pop I'd rather spend the money on something for pamplemousse. Though I suppose having a not-in-pain, not-clunky mother is good for the little one in a way!

Fryn you're making me want a Bee even more - they're not really classic looking but I've hardly heard a bad word about them, and they have a good resale value on ebay at the moment. We will certainly try a few but the Bee is on my shortlist.

My DH is going away for a week's cycling in the Alps tomorrow - at least it's not work this time. This is supposed to be has last big cycling trip for a while so I shouldn't complain (he's done Vancouver - San Francisco, Land's End to John O'Groats a couple of times, coast to coast etc). Not my idea of fun, but hey ho.

Nanny01 · 19/08/2011 12:25

debs39- congratulations we are also having a boy and there will also be a 5 yr gap between ds2 and ds3.

Nanny01 · 19/08/2011 12:29

ghosteditor - bees are good especially the latest models, we had the first generation one and they were good. Even when 2 things broke I got the replacement parts really quickly. I think they have basically changed the wings on the side of the seat. The seat is ment to be bigger, the hood not so big and it easier to turn the seat around. May consider one now we have decided that we will need a cheepy stroller and and more rugged one for every day use.

supadupapupascupa · 19/08/2011 13:42

woohoo! just herd my baby (doppler just arrived in the post!) Grin

will now go and read the rest of the thread Grin

supadupapupascupa · 19/08/2011 13:42

erm heard not herd [over excited emoticon!]

Fryn · 19/08/2011 14:36

supa - woohoo! how exciting (even when I thought it was cow related).

debs39 - great news - another woohoo here I think!

ghost - as Nanny says, the latest ones are better than the one I have, and I loved our one even though the brakes didn't work very well (that's one thing they've also sorted out!) Great that the seat's bigger - DD looks a bit squashed now when we use hers (she's 26 months). Apparently they also fold more easily. They're a great size - always managed to get on the bus no problem, got through shop doors and down aisles easily (spent a lot of time laughing at mummy's with bigger ones getting stuck). I wouldn't say they're brilliant off-roading, but ours survived a few trips round the wood without anything dropping off!

Mmm - just had sausages for lunch, and now feeling a bit guilty after that 1000 days thing. But not that guilty!

Oeisha · 19/08/2011 19:54

debs congrats on the boy-scan.
I've been resisting the thought of a doppler until today. Went swimming. Nothing, unlike last time when Yolkis went mental. Not feeling overly rational either (DH is away, so no one to go pgmental on). Trying not to add it all together (headaches, lack of movement this week [I've had what I'm classing as movements, but they're very weak and nothing like the last few weeks worth], occasional slight temp., ligament pains, flashing lights) and just wait it out 'til 31st, but it's not getting any easier - people at work keep asking "how's bump?". Just another remider that I'm not convinced all's well. All the advice is not to get a doppler and I'm really not sure it will ultimatly help...will I just be neurotic about something else despite possibly being able to hear a heartbeat regularly?

For those that have them...

  1. Has it helped with any anxieties? Or have they just transferred to something else?
  2. What ones have you gone for?
ghosteditor · 19/08/2011 20:02

Thanks for the bugaboo fb ladies - will def consider!

I've just had my first bit of uncontrolled weeping, which I'm blaming on the pg hormones! I don't cry much normally but was just chopping tomatoes with a brand new knife, and stabbed my little finger. It bled loads and all I could do was stand there wailing 'it's dripping on my FOOT!' proper full on fat tears! DH got my a plaster and cleaned me up while I sobbed. Poor chap thought i'd really damaged myself because I don't normally react like that at all! He's all baffled now...

Guess that'll be the hormones then!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 19/08/2011 20:23

Well at least you had the bleeding as an excuse - I've done full on proper sobbing for literally actually nothing. No reason at all, not even an exaggerated one.
Luckily DH is used to me putting on the waterworks, so he wasn;t that phased, but even he struggled to belive there was no reason at all.

ghosteditor · 19/08/2011 20:26

Gosh, so good to hear it's not just me! Am sure I'll progress to random tears any day now Grin

Oeisha · 19/08/2011 20:30

Anyone read the crying thread on the pregnancy forum?
It's amazing what we'll cry at whislt pg!
Try watching all of er...that'll get the tears coming. After er we're going back to The West Wing Hmm

fishandlilacs · 19/08/2011 21:04

Evening ladies.

Congrats on scans-lots of them coming in now. Lots of us batting for team blue it seems :) Do we update the list with the gender? I cannot wait til next wk.

I sympathise with restless legs, Vitamin B is supposed to be good. I never got it last time but this time it's been plaguing me fom the start, but only when i sit on the sofa which is weird. I also sympathise with heartburn-mine is so bad, but doc has okayed to take renitidine (zantac) which bloomin works.

Headaches and bad backs here too-not having a great run of it. I am not, like some of you suffering from anxiety though, Shrimpy is rolling and a kicking like a gudun, it seems to start at about 8.30pm so I know what kind of baby I'm gonna have-bloody nightmare to get to bed!

Oiesha-you and seem to be having the same pregnany symptoms at the same time-everytime I read your posts think .."and me" or "i know how she feels"

addictediam · 19/08/2011 21:26

I had a proper screaming fit at dh the other night, he wouldnt cuddle me, then when he did I told him he was too close and I wanted him to go and sleep on the sofa, I screamed like a banshee for 20 minutes he was so confused dd woke up I screamed at him for that too and she ended up sleeping in our bed with dh on the sofa. I have no idea what that was about, I just couldn't control myself! Blush

Oeshia if your really worried call the mw she will check you over (especially if there are tears involved Wink
