Right here's our new thread.

So who's going to be first for an early Christmas present then?

just watching secret smile and it's getting to the really scary bit. dh has stopped watching, he says it's too depressing and horrible. i can see what he means, but it's become a bit compulsive now.

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 13/12/2005 08:25

morning

missed secret smile as I got really restless last night and tv just seemed too boring (had a strange urge after tea to rake leaves, wash the car - anything to just be active!! - I was still wandering around with an "I'm bored" face on at bed time!) was it any good?

SK - yes - I am now officially fed up with being pg!! You take it easy though hon, and you others with little ones - really feel for you as I know it can't be easy.

DD seems to be going though a mini "revert to childhood" phase at the mo (have you had this Lyra?) she put "mummy" on my b/day card (which I didn't take much notice of tbh - but she hasn't done that in over a decade) but has now stopped eating properly (not making packed lunch and no time for b/fast - unless I make it) I'm wondering whether it's some kind of subconcious rebellion about not being an only child, or even a child, anymore - she'll be 18 next year fgs!!!! most wierd!! Think maybe she just wants to be "mummied" a bit more at he moment. We had a chat about dangers of only eating 1 meal a day, burnout, crap skin, being scrawny etc so I hope the message has got through. Good job I can indulge and fuss her for a while but hope it doesn't get any worse!

Chuffed - is your fab mattress going to arrive before Christmas? It sounds so comfy you lucky lucky thing!

Have a need to clean/tidy etc (again)..... am off to be a saddo!!

OhTickletownofbethlehem · 13/12/2005 08:27

Rachey - agree on the new baby making the toddler feel enormous... sorted the baby clothes last night and had to take a newborn sleepsuit through to dh, just to remind him how teeny they are! Got all nostalgic

Glad everyone sounds bouncy. Know what you mean Iris on the hippy stuff - dh is a scientist by nature, so I have to come up with rock solid reasons if I want to try something alternative! Mind you, he is a fan of herbal med, & that's not bad for a vet. Don't talk to him about homeopathy tho

Love all the names - does Talia mean something SK? Very lovely with your surname... sounds like a pretty wild flower down by a stream!

Rachey - how are you getting 6 in the car - did you have a new estate? So does it have extra seats in the back? We have my Saab 96, one year younger than me, that I have had since I was 18. Very attached to it, obviously, but it's a squeeze for the family as it is now (dogs go on laps!!) and we are trying to decide what to do. A more modern car would also help us take longer trips into Germany & Sweden, which would be lovely. Hmmm.

Off to finish off sorting guest bedroom for my mum

wewishyouamerryKITTYmas · 13/12/2005 08:50

Morning all DD decided she wanted to get up with Daddy this morning so early start for me (although I have spent it on here, drinking tea watching breakfast tv and playing with DD). Mum and toddlers for us in a bit which is always great as DD will be shattered when we get back.

Secret Smile was v good he was so so creepy in it, can't wait to see if he gets his just desserts tonight.

Tickle - newborn clothes even look tiny next to DDs and shes in 12-18 months clothes. Very very cute though. Have researched the meaning of Talia and it is Jewish and means Blossom or Dew depending on which website you go to. It may change when she arrives though. Haven't told anyone in RL though so keep schtum .

Iris - I cannot imagine having a teenager eek! She be doting on the baby though and it will put her off having one of her own for life too!

Well I had better go and get myself organised, have just booked a Tesco order last date I could get is next Wednesday!

LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits · 13/12/2005 09:51

Ahh! Iris - your dd will always be your little girl! Think she might be feeling it subconciously - my 3 are definitely more cuddly at the mo. Mind you, that might just be the allure of my massive bosom!

Tickle - the estate still isn't really big enough, ok for 5 + dog + luggage. We did think long and hard about a people carrier (but no room for dog + luggage unless you lose seats?). Our conclusion was that (unlike you with little ones) that we wouldn't often need to be all together in one car. My 3 are often with their dad (especially at weekends) or off doing different things. Dp not always with us because of his hours. We will often have to go in separate cars anyway because of different commitments.

Secret smile was pretty good - more shocks to come! Wish I could see tonights. The book is still better of course (slower build up, more creepy incidents especially with sister and brother) but David Tennant did a good job of Brendan.

I have to go to team meeting at 12 + xmas dinner tonight in Cardiff, really going to try and look pathetic and get out of team planning session etc tomorrow - a bit daft when I'm not going to be there after next week!

somethingsexyandLYcRAinmystock · 13/12/2005 12:38

Tickle

Just got a chiming pendant for my lo today! They happened to be for sale locally, so that was handy. the chain is nowhere near long enough though, i don't think my lo will be able to hear the chimes atm, my boobs will definitely be muffling them!! I'll have to find a ribbon to use instead of the chain.

bet you're really looking forward to seeing your mum. how long will she stay? my mil was on the fone yesterday asking wen she should book her flight for, as if i could say which day the baby would arrive! i said end of jan, then he'll definitely be here. i'm coming to terms with the fact that he'll probably be late, and have gone off the idea of a natural induction. i do have the raspberry leaf capsules, but i'm not absolutely sure about taking those either.

rach

hope your meeting goes well and that your dinner is yummy.

iris

all your cleaning sounds a bit like a lead into labour!!! take it easy girl. no i haven't noticed any regressive tendencies in my 2 yet, in fact ds seems to be behaving in a more mature and helpful way if anything. there's still time though....

somethingsexyandLYcRAinmystock · 13/12/2005 12:41

sweetkit

i too think Talia is a gorgeous girl's name. i longed for something unusual and feminine as a child (Julie just didn't do it for me), hence Josephine for my dd.

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 13/12/2005 14:56

Rachey - you're right - she'll always be my little girl (love her so very much)she does have a tendency to internalise though. When she was little she went through a phase of projectile vomming if ever she thought I was going out on a date!!! Had her up the hosp twice thinking it was appendicitis!

Lyra - he can't come yet - I've still got 5 weeks to go & DH is going away tomorrow v early until late Sat!!! (have really bad BH today though - plus big painful bruised feeling on one side - hope it's just his fat backside lol!!)
going 4 a sleep now - soooo tired and uncomfortable :{

wewishyouamerryKITTYmas · 13/12/2005 17:52

Thanks Lyra DP and I love it but we thought it was way too unusual! I secretly still want Caitlin but I don't know she feels like a Talia now.

Better go DD has a nappy change awaiting, newborn nappies will seem a breeze after the contects of a toddlers that you have to pin down to change!

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 13/12/2005 17:58

Isn't it Thalia?

OhTickletownofbethlehem · 13/12/2005 20:28

Hello everyone - overdone it a bit today I think, sorting all the family's outgrown/summer stuff in & out of bags, & clearing the spare room. Knackered now!! dh out at yet another meeting (he's on the school steering committee, and they had to ask the head to resign... so the committee is flat out).

Glad you got your pendant Lyra My Ma is coming for 3 wks (dh will have to put in a lot of hours up at the farm!). Where is your MIL flying in from??

Just booked dh & me into a hotel in Aarhus overnight on Thurs... wahay! dh's parents are having the children overnight & doing the school runs etc

A friend yesterday was not lifting my spirits with her story of turning a breech baby. The first time they did it she could feel it turn back on the ferry on the way home. Ended up turning it 3 times and inducing her an hour after the last one to stop it happening again Please behave little man!

Mousewatch: funny noises in the kitchen bin tonight. Small grey furry thing deposited out in the fields Go away!

Chuffingoodtime · 14/12/2005 02:29

Another hormonal one here, have had little cries in bed with dh about who knows what. I am having a little trouble settling down here I think too, after all the planning and travelling it almost seems a bit boring and sedate and quiet which is nice but not if you get what I mean. We have our trip to Malaysia planned for May but I'm not really in a position to plan that yet until after the baby comes and I love to plan our holidays.
Mattress arrives this afternoon - will report back on it so excited as I may well be able to sleep on my tum tonight and no numb hips for me.
Tickle we sorted through the baby clothes the other night and things just seemed so tiny and I remember they didn't even fit dd until about 8wks old some of them, it is hard to picture although I'm still convinced this one won't be as 'delicate' as she was.
Some cramps (not BH) and serious movement again today, praying it won't come early.
Good luck with the turning Tickle - it's a boy isn't it so just lazy and can't be bothered to do it himself.
Love Talia it was on my list for number 3 if we have one but seeing as now we have names chosen for the first 2 that are boy/girl dependant on spelling we feel we almost need to stick to the theme (how sad is that). The funny thing is that dh's sister was on our PC the other day and found a file and said I think I found something I shouldn't have but that's the name I was going to use. Oh well we got in first.
Georgie I'm sure it'll be fine after the baby is born, I think now is the worst time with all the stress about and the what if's than once it all happens. You had such a crap situation to start with last time anybody would have felt down and out of control.
Off to get some girly attention this evening over coffee or 'herbal tea' as it will be in two of our cases.
Sweetkitty is your pain in your pelvis in general or the back or front or down near the tailbone.
As for the eating I have just polished off a bag of pineapple lumps which won't mean anything to anyone who hasn't been to NZ but it was a 'family pack' too.
Take care all!

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2005 04:34

Hi there all - went to bed really early as I was so tired/hormonal but now I'm up and feeling like it's morning!!still with v uncomfortable batches of BH though - am timing them as I type just to be on the safe side/feed my paranoia what's going on?!

Chuffed - sleeping on your tum!!!! OMG I wish !! Is the mattress that thick then? or are you just not very big? No wonder you're excited!
I sympathise with you over the "attack of the hormones". You do have some pretty valid reasons to be frustrated though as it must be quite an anti climax to be in one place after travelling for so long, especially as you've got to wait for your house too. I'd be getting out brochures for the next holiday (after Malaysia)in your shoes!!

Kitty - DD was nearly a Caitlin. The thing that put me off was that I have a friend who can't say it and she used to say Cakelin instead
Apparently DD swings between being grossed out and in awe of pg so I don't think I've put her off completely. We went to her awards ceremony at school last week & she complained that she had to put up with various people saying "OMG your mum is sooo pg!" all night lol. How's your pelvis now BTW? - are you managing to take things a bit easier?

Lyra your pendant - bet it will look lovely on a ribbon though. Spoke to mw friend last night about my nestfest & she seemed to think that it could be the baby's head engaging that caused the hormone surge (nesting/worse BHs/weepiness)- such bad timing with DH going to the other side of the bloody world today!!

Rachey - didn't realise you were on your last week at work too!! Fab isn't it. Hope you had a good xmas bash last night & were succesfull in avoiding anything cerebral at your meeting

Tickle - I read yesterday in a prenatal course booklet that doing a shoulderstand (against a wall for balance)for 2 mins per day can help the turning thing - suppose anything that puts your bum higher than your chest would have the same effect though. Hope your trip goes well and make sure you make the most of it just being the 2 of you!!

Georgie - hope you're holding up ok & that yr DH's tonsilitis is clearing up. You do make me smile - everytime I see your name I chuckle at "hoo hoo"

anyway - no doubt I'll be back later but for now I think I need another cuppa. Hope you all have a lovely day x

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2005 06:55

Just a quick update. BH have eased off (were really tight & achey every 11-12 mins for over an hour and I was starting to feel a bit sick - but that was probably tiredness/hunger) I'm inclined to think there's a huge psychological element to this as I really don't want DH to go away as he wont be able to get back if anything does kick off. Haven't had any other symptoms though(bodily functions haven't gone into overdrive or anything) so hopeful it was just LOs head getting lower.
off to grab a shower & make everyone some brekkie on my LAST DAY OF WORK!!!!! cya

OhTickletownofbethlehem · 14/12/2005 08:23

ooh Iris - good luck with the last day at work!! Poor you having dh going all that way It's not a long trip is it?

My dh didn't come in til nearly midnight last night from the steering committee stuff... he's dying to get on with stuff at the farm, but all this unpaid school admin & stuff keeps getting in the way. But we would rather know what's going on at the school than not IYSWIM.

Cuppa too for me, then more cleaning up & sorting!!
Later girls

somethingsexyandLYcRAinmystock · 14/12/2005 11:01

morning all

sitting here eating chocolate turkish delight thins, yum yum, better put the lid on before I eat the lot.

not planning to do much today. recorded secret smile last night, so I'll watch that later. I just ordered a coorie sling from

www.brightspark.wahmall.co.uk/traderplus/

at a bargain price of £13 inc. postage! very pleased about that, as i've been thinking about making one, the design is so simple, but started worrying that my seams wouldn't be strong enough, so decided to order one instead.

iris

where has your dh gone flying off to? is it for his job? what does he do? sounds very fancy schmancy if he has to fly across the world!!

more later

wewishyouamerryKITTYmas · 14/12/2005 12:29

hi all

Secret smile was good but saw the ending coming a mile off (smug emoticon).

Today have been down town buying DP a PS2 a present to himself from his Mum's Christmas money but of course I have to buy it and wrap it the big kid! Also bought some new digital phones as we used to have a digital phone but DD put it down the toilet and it drowned and died so we have had a £5 Argos one for a while and I hate thats it's corded as if I'm upstairs I have to run down them past 2 stair gates and then it stops ringing.

Been getting twinges and BHs all this morning, got me a bit worried but I think it's more ligament/muscular (I hope) made me realise I am nowhere ready for this baby. Will have to wash little clothes today and sort out bag. Bought some navy bath towels (another mumsnet tip they hide the blood sorry) and some more big cheap Asda pants, also toilet wipes for hospital loos and shower gel etc.

A month till my due date and I honestly don't know if I can stand another 4 weeks of this or potentially 6 if I were to go late.

Chuffed - I hope you are feeling better now I'm so up and down right now as well. My pain started in my tailbone but has spread to my hips and front of my pelvis too think my whole pelvis/hips are falling apart.

Iris - DP said Caitlin sounded like catsick think he got it from a movie so that put me off (apologies to mums of Caitlins I think it's lovely). Talia can be spelt Thalia, Tahlia or Talia I think we are going to go with Talia because it's easier for people to spell. Although looking at it Tahlia looks nicer somehow.

Lyra - will check out your link think I am going to get a coorie sling as well.

Hope everyone else is doing OK and not suffering too much.

somethingsexyandLYcRAinmystock · 14/12/2005 12:38

grr secret smile didn't record properly - got the pictures, but not the sound, so don't know what happened, what a pain!!! started watching queer as folk instead, got a vid from the library, and never saw it first time round. it's a bit graphic!

i should tidy up really, i've got nothing else to do, but just feel like doing nothing today, so i'll make the most of the opportunity i think.

happy last wednesday iris and rachey!

GeorgiePorgieCHRISTMASpuddinga · 14/12/2005 13:10

Afternoon all

Just a quickie from me at the moment. Am shattered today. Not sure if I'm coming down with DH's sore throat thing. Am making most of DD being at pre-school to have a nap.

DD at her dad's tonight, so will catch up with you all then.

Hope everyone else is well and the BH/pelvis/hormone/general crappy-ness isn't over bearing today

Lunch awaits.....

G xx

Eshay · 14/12/2005 13:19

Hi ladies,

Once again, i don't log on for two weeks and there is sooooo much to catch up on. I didn't think it had been that long but it took me ages to read through everything yesterday.

Congratulations to Iris and Rachey on starting their Mat Leave. I will join you very soon as my last day is tomorrow. Actually, I've been doing very little all day today so far and tomorrow is going to be a short and quick day with a MW appointment in the morning and Secrtet Santa in the afternoon. And who knows, there might be some goodbye gathering squeezed in there as well. They did last time and I was given loads of baby goodies but it's not quite the same when it's the second time around so I'm not sure what to expect. Half an hour till lunch time - going for a Chinese buffet with some colleagues as a goodbye sort of thing so it's really starting to feel real now.

SweetKitty, I liked how you said you were not ready for this baby to arrive yet. I am feeling that too. I have not bought any big knickers yet, not ordered my TENS, the baby clothes are still up in the loft... I have just been putting it off until I'm off work so next week is when I will panic and try and get it all done at once. My due date is not until 19 Jan and DS was 2 weeks overdue so I'm not actually expecting anything to happen any time soon.

Welcome to Maman. I am Dutch so my DS (17 months) is being raised bilingually although he knows much more English than Dutch. I am the only one babbling in that funny language so it will be a bit of a struggle once he's bigger I'm sure. I'll need to get to know some more Dutch people with children in my area.

Chuffed, I know all about Pineapple Lumps. DH is a Kiwi and we used to flat with a Kiwi girl who often had cravings for NZ foodstuffs, pineapple lumps being one of them. She also had a big thing for Watties ketchup and Gourmet Burger Kitchen of course. Hope the bed has arrived and you're lying on it now. New beds are great. I am so happy we bought a new bed when we moved house. I have been fairly comfortable at night and I am convinced it's all to do with our bed.

I have a MW appt tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it as they will take some blood. Yuk! I'll be sure to have a chocolate bar at hand to comfort myself afterwards. On the other hand I am looking forward to it because last time she thought baby was breech and my bump feels completely different these days so he may have turned.

Last night I received an email from people I know in the USA who had their baby at 27 weeks! The poor little thing is so tiny! This happened about 3 months ago and she is still alive and actually doing much better but she is still the tiniest thing you ever saw. It made me all weepy to look at the pictures and so happy and thankful that things are going so well for me. For all of us, really. It makes me forget all about my various aches and pains and any other complaints I may have.

Lunch time is almost here! Yippee!

Eshay · 14/12/2005 13:25

Oh, I forgot to say. I had a chime pendant when I was pg with Thomas and when he was born I tied it to his pram so that he could still hear it when we were out for walks. He loves music now but obviously I have no clue as to whether this is related at all. I might get it out for him again soon and see how he reacts to it.

I chose not to wear one this time because I got really sick of having it round my neck every single day but did not want to take it off until the baby was born. So if there is a huge difference between my 2 boys it could well be because one was chime deprived

They were very popular in NL a few years back and everyone knows what it is when you wear one. This is great as people are aware you are pg much earlier than here, where everyone seems afraid to say or assume anything until you are at least 7 months!

chIRIStmasfairybigpants · 14/12/2005 17:07

WAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I'm now officially on maternity leave - break out the sugar free lemonade!! (I don't think !!) I am going to have a glass of wine, pig out on scrummy pesto pasta & salad with loads of extra parmesan, & veg in front of the tv to celebrate tonight

I'll be joining you in sounding all chilled out on MN now Lyra (get you munching your Turkish Delight treaties ! - hope you were sat cross legged on a suitably jewel coloured cushion!! lol Fab sling btw - I may just have to order one too. They look really comfy don't they - and handy for bf coverage.

Fingers crossed you don't go down with anything Georgie (I thought our immune systems were supposed to be super strong at the mo, or am I mistaken?)

Tickle - good luck for tomorrow's appt!!

Eshay - hope you have a lovely last day at work too & that your bloods go well.

best go & get grub on as DD has to go work!

turkeystuffingbLOOMER · 14/12/2005 19:07

Oh Eshay, I was just reading through all these (many, many) posts from the past week, and thinking that we hadn't heard anything from you for ages - good to hear that you're still around, and congrats to you and Iris AND Rachey on starting maternity leave. I'm slightly though, as I still have another week to go - 22nd is my last day, and they are certainly getting their pound of flesh out of me in the meanwhile... I had a terrible nights sleep on Monday as I was so pissed off with my Director booking me in to go to yet another meeting which is planning our team's workload for next year - when I won't even BE there! She has a serious problem getting her head around the fact that I'm going to have a baby and that means that I won't be available for her to consult with 24hrs a day on the phone come January. Grrrr... anyhow, it's not long now until I can stick two fingers up and walk away!!

Still got loads to organise before baby arrives - haven't ordered our birthing pool yet, which is a bit stupid, and I don't have any big pants or nursing bras, still have lots of christmas shopping to sort in the interim too, but at least I don't yet have any kids to contend with - I don't know how you guys do it with your little ones running around at home!

And wow, a baby born at 27 weeks is pretty scary... it's good to be rominded how lucky we are with our LOs safely tucked away inside!

It's strange how the BHs seem to have been increasing for everyone - I had a really manic evening of them on Sunday, but they seem to have calmed down a bit since then. Who's taking the raspberry leaf then? A friend has given me a bottle of tablets, but I'm not sure when to start on them, as I really don't want this baby to pop out before christmas.
Iris, hope yours are still a little easier, and that you had a good last day of work.

Georgie, hope you've had a restful day and aren't feeling too pooey.

Oh, and with the names discussions, I think Talia is a really pretty name, I love Caitlin too (that's on our shortlist), and we've a friend with an 8 year old Olivia - always thought that is a beautiful name. I think Alexander is a great boys name (not so keen on Alexandra for a girl though - which is a bit random of me). David Alexander was an actor in "Seinfeld" I think, so I immediately think of a balding tubby middle-aged man when I hear that combination - stupid really!

Chuffed, I'll be interested to hear your verdict on the mattress... we tried out one of those space-age ones in a shop recently, but I found it a bit off-putting that it took a few moments to readjust and re-mold when you change positions. Hopefully you won't be changing positions that frequently though!

Well, that's enough from me. DH is looming over my shoulder, so I'll have to shift my 'fat arse' so he can check his emails... (he's lovely really)

Have a good evening girls!

Chuffingoodtime · 15/12/2005 04:07

Well fab night's sleep for me, half on my stomach and half on side with the mattress saver on it didn't react to my body heat quite as much so wasn't quite so sinky but still so much better than the other.
We found quite a difference in the different memory foam mattresses when we were looking, some reacted at lower temperatures which means you sink in more essentially giving you more of a hole and you can't use hot water bottles with those ones you can with ours.
Hope the hospital appointments went well Eshay and Tickle. I have one on Monday and will get a referral to get bloods. Bizarre to think they will be weekly after Monday. We are nowhere near being ready for the baby either. Have found some undies now which I must go and buy, how many pairs is everybody getting?
Eshay I forgot? that your dh is a kiwi, the other thing we used to crave when in London was the onion dip to go with crisps. Hate to think how long the weight will take to get off this time after all the food intake since we got back...oh well.

OhTickletownofbethlehem · 15/12/2005 07:37

On the undies Chuffed I am just going to use up my baggy old ones then buy a few new pairs to celebrate afterwards!! So every day can be a fancy pants day

Eshay, it's a shame you don't still live in SW London as I have a lovely dutch friend there, married to a dane - they are doing dutch and english as their languages, but the children don't speak much dutch in return... they understand a lot tho.

Today is the day for turning. Not looking forward to it About 4 people have been really tactless & said 'oooh isn't that supposed to really hurt?' and there's a big chance he will just turn back again apparently Have primed dh to chat with them at length about whether it's really worth it, and couldn't we just wait & see. Being a 4th baby, surely there should be plenty of room 'down the shute' to have him breech anyway!!!

Looking forward to a day & night away with dh, but felt vary odd saying goodbye to the smalls this morning.

Will check in again on Saturday. Fingers crossed Have a nice time til then everyone xx
