Here we are girls. I think we are all a bit shell-shocked at the moment, aren't we?

Thinking of you DHW and wishing life wasn't so cruel sometimes.

spiker · 26/01/2006 19:21

Had my scan - am pleased to report that placenta has tidied itself out of the way and baby is average size (so it was all those pies ).

oh and it's a boy! I was happy when they told me but then I cried and cried in the car, at the thought that I'd never have a daughter.

Going to buy some boy clothes to cheer myself up. And perhaps it's time for a pampering facial or two. I'm a tad hormonal at the moment (!), plus getting increasingly stressed with work (am facing possible redundancy).

romilly · 26/01/2006 19:59

spiker - so sorry to hear about your work, possible redundancy - but great news about the scan all going well. so we were both worried about size for nothing. lol @ pies.

jackstini - i hear you on having problems with the sample too, lol (better not say PMSL!!!)

vikkiyy - interesting to hear what you were saying on measurements - they do seem to be v. inaccurate. what do you think about a few sessions of acupuncture from about week 36 to try not to go over due date. my obs. said he wouldnt let me go over because of my high b/p so i will have to be induced if nothing happens by then and i am keen to avoid induction if poss. do you think week 36 is too early. anyone else have any experience with acupuncture?

newgirl - thanks for your advice on induction - must admit i am really hoping i wont need it.

thanks everyone else for interesting comments on b/feeding, labour etc.

munz/friz - big hellos to you guys!

Frizbetheexpansionset · 26/01/2006 22:11

Talk later.
Take care all!

UniSarah · 27/01/2006 11:51

Poppy- hope all was well with MW, did they get kicked?

Last post from the old office, now about to dismantle computer and clear desk etc so " the boys*" can move it down stairs this evening.Hopefully will be able to resume posting on sat or sunday from the " new office" asuming all the network stuff works OK.

totallyinlove · 27/01/2006 12:04

hi ladies!

glad you are all doing ok. I keep looking at the bag I have got sat here ready to pack in case I have to go into hospital but I just can't get round to sorting it out. I am exhausted! Bet you lot are too!

Poppyh-hope midwife appointment went ok

Spiker-sorry to hear about possible redundancy. Retail therapy always helps!

munz-glad to hear everything has sorted out.

RosiePosie-hope you are all over your yucky bugs now.

My iron levels came back with no change, but I have started taking the liquid supplement. Fingers crossed it will work. Oh and even though the doctor tried to scare me, my urine tests came back as normal which was a relief! Anyone got miracle cures for backache? I didn't sleep at all last night and I'm feeling it today!!

Right I'm going to go and look at my hospital bag list again and check I've got everything before I attempt to pack it all! hmm. but then again, that apple and blackberry pie in the cupboard needs eating and looks very nice.....

Marne · 27/01/2006 14:10

Hello girls,
Went to see the midwife this morning, bump has grown so not small anymore, her head is down and she's realy active so almost all good news, they found protein in my wee so they think my UTI may still be there even though the GP gave me the all clear so i have to wait again for more test resaults.

poppyh · 27/01/2006 18:00

Hi There,
Midwife appointment went well.Looked at bump size and said it was small, then had a feel and a measure and said baby appeared a very good size, so panic over!!
My house looks like a bombs hit it.We have a bathroom with no wall, as they had to knock it down to move it to fit in the staircase up to the loft. There is dust and rubble everywhere! Was going to disappear to my mums but she has flu so couldnt.
Workmen still here working away!!Just want to tidy up now!!
Hope everyone ok today!

Frizbetheexpansionset · 27/01/2006 22:33

Glad all ok with bubba poppyh sure house will be great once they've finishd tho just a tad annoying to live with in the meantime....

Marne booooo for the protein, hope all is ok, glad bump is right way round and active tho!

Til, mmmm pie, I really must stop thinking about nice sweet things!!

UniSarah, good luck with the office move, hope it all works when you set it up again

Well day from hell here, dd kept us up most of last night, but no obvious reason bar a bit of snot, until just now, when she's woken up with what sounds like croup.......I could kill the mother who dropped her dd off at nursery with it on Tuesday.....I nearly asked her to take her home at the time, but didn't think it was my place, thought nursery might have tho, but obviously not.....so looks like a good week of sleepless nights for me and dd......
Also bloody 'new' picasso broke down today....spent hour on M1 hard shoulder with dd in the back, whilst car dashboard told me we were over heating, although I couldn't see it....call out guy confirmed that car ok, but computer dash/temp gague faulty......so that's back to the bloomin dealers on Monday.....I tell ya, new cars rubbish, my old banger never gave me (hardly) any trouble in 3 years!!

Hope you all have a good/great weekend!

poppyh · 28/01/2006 10:02

Friz, my Dd had croup last year.In the end took her to A and E as it got so bad. They can give child an oral steriod which sounds harsh but it really worked and cleared up straight away.In the meantime keep boiling the kettle and getting steam near her.
Sorry about your car, hope it sorts out.
Well we now have a staircase but at the price of our bathroom which is a right mess. The dust yesterday was unbelieveable. But I can see how much they've achieved now so feeling quite positive.
Roll on february I say!!
Take care all.

UniSarah · 28/01/2006 20:52

Office back in working order, hurrah. Dh put it all back together while I was at my german class this morning. He then spent ALL afternoon checking it was OK, this seemed to involve playing lots of mp3s (to check speakers right way round I guess) and surfing the net ( to check the new phone socket works correctly?).
NOW hes bored. I've surgested he MIGHT like to get the sewing machine out as he keeps saying he will run up some cot sheets from an old bed sheet, and turn an old flese into a blanket and that kind of thing. Havn't heard anything sounding like sewing yet tho!
I'll drag him out for a walk tomorrow:-)

Marne · 29/01/2006 15:19

Where is evryone?

Hope you are all ok?
Has anybody else got a bit carried away with buying baby things? Feeling a bit to fat to go out shopping but that has'nt stoped me shopping on line, i've spent way too much on cute little outfits, shoes, bottles etc.. I told dh we did'nt need to buy anything as we have evrything from dd1 so dh is'nt happy (oops)

romilly · 29/01/2006 18:06

lol Marne - yes, also guilty - as you say, feeling too huge to do any retail therapy for myself, so keep succombing to cute little baby things. we do need it all though, as first-time around (at least thats how i am justifying it!)

friz - sorry to hear about the croup - hope it clears up quickly. you need your sleep in the next few weeks. and what a pain in the rear about the new car . how are you feeling otherwise? i am feeling very uncomfortable at night and during the day for that matter! everyone i know seems to think that because i am now on maternity leave i will be lunching and socializing every day - but i cant think of anything worse right now.

re: our new home, just waiting to exchange in a few weeks time and then it is 2 months of work at least - so we are going to rent our current home back off the guy we have sold it to for those 2 months. very unconventional and horribly costly (as he wants us to cover his whole mortgage which is huge, plus pay our new mortgage on the new house) so bit of a nightmare, but there is no way i will be able to move twice and give birth all at the same time!

poppy - hope your builders finish up quickly. it isnt much fun is it. will be worth it though.

Frizbetheexpansionset · 29/01/2006 21:59

Oh Rom for you about the home situation, whata a pain in the arse......car is dropped off at garage as of today, so will wait and see if I get it back tomorrow as promised (har har)

Good to see your back online UniSarah

Poppy H, thanks for that, have had two rough nights with it, but she seems better tonight, have been doing the menthol in hot water in the room, fingers x'd for tonight, as I need some sleep!!

Marne, dh has been keeping a tight rein on the finances here! so hardly anything new brought so far.......however sure that will change!

Hope all are ok and have had good weekends!

poppyh · 29/01/2006 22:37

Friz, glad croup is clearing up.
Thanks to all regarding my loft!!Have spent all weekend cleaning the stairs and bathroom.Have stairs going up to loft room now, but it has no floor or walls!!Luckily DD seems to understand the danger of it.
Have been busy buying things for bump.Got new moses basket mattress, some bottles, just in case BF doesnt work and am trying to get a baby sling as although DD is nearly 3, she still uses pushchair sometimes and i am not buying a double at her age!
Keep forgetting about baby though as loft takes over!!But at least these last few weeks are going quick.4 weeks tomorrow i am booked in for section, and i cannot wait to meet the new edition!!Keep wondering what she will look like now!
Take care all.

spiker · 29/01/2006 23:02

rom - really feel for you. And no way could you move twice at this point! Hope the work all goes to schedule.

unisarah - my extenders have arrived! ahhhh....

munz · 30/01/2006 13:29

sorry girls not been on, been v hormonal and nesty! jsut a quicky thou we have DB stopping with us till tomorrow night after his 2 months spat in OZ.

hope everyone's well.

laundrylover · 30/01/2006 15:36

Hello all - hope you are enjoying the sunshine and beating those hormones!
Just been having a catch up with you all as Tilly thwarted me last week by waking up and then weeing on my lap whilst 'coming round'! Lovely.
The chat has brought back memories of living in a building site last time and having carpets fitted whilst in labour!
Rom - think you are right about the move. We moved when Tilly was 7 months and I found it stressful even though we were escaping nightmare neighbours/(ex) business partners! I sat on the wall and cried!! It was very complicated as we were swapping houses with our buyers so the vans were doing two full runs at one point and they had the same Ikea bits and bobs as us which all got very confusing!!
I've ordered my pool to arrive March 1st and am very excited. It has a heater so I will be in it straight away!!
The out-laws neighbour had her little boy last week - 10 weeks early!! Doing fine though.
I have just got a place on a training course this week and we are off to London then for a long weekend so don't leave me too much to catch upon and NO BABIES PLEASE!!

RosiePosie · 30/01/2006 15:56

This is the first of my pregnancies where we haven't moved house and I must say it's bliss!

LL, very jealous of your heated pool!

I am now officially booked in for the homebirth and just need to hold out until 37weeks ( a week tommorrow ) - highly likely as both others were born at 41 weeks. There are no other homebirths on the island booked in for same time as me, so no worries about unavailable midwives, and I got the impression they are going to be fighting over who comes out for me - as she drew a map of where I live ( a bit tricky to find ) and is printing it out and giving it to all the community midwives! I have a scan next Thursday to make sure baby and placenta are in good positions ( a bit late as I'll be over 37 wks by then! ) and then it's all systems go. One moment I feel excited and relieved that it's nearly over, the next, terrified about the impending birth. I don't think I've ever really got over the fact that we ran out of G&A last time during transition ( I time when I always freak out at the best of times ) and feeling apprehensive about that and whether MIL will make it over on the ferry in time to take the kids.

Everything is bought or retrieved now, apart from the car seat which is in MIL's garage and probably covered in cat hair and wee! We set up the Amby Baby Hammock at the weekend - it's beautiful and I've got my sling collection sorted (I'm indulging myself this time as it's my last baby.) I have three slings, lol - I used them a lot with dd and I know I will this time too, with two other children to look after. I have one of these:
www.brightsparkslings.co.uk/

One of these:
www.cwtshi.com/

and my good old Wilkinet

Yeah, homebirths, cloth nappies and slings - I'm a right old hippy!

OP posts:
laundrylover · 30/01/2006 16:11

We are 'earth mothers' to be sure RP!!
Ordering some new nappies (Fluffles and bambozzles) tonight just because I like the names and they look sooo fab. Thinking of getting a Slingeasy - any opinions before I order?
If we were real hippies we would be scoffing the placenta for a bit of iron but reckon the midwife can take it and I don't care if it's made into a face mask!!!

vickiyumyum · 30/01/2006 16:27

oh now i feel guilty the only concession that i ahve made to being green is ordering my reusable nappies that i plan on using after the first couple of weeks, until that point i am using nature nappies and also have been given a packet of moltex disposables.
Hope you are all well, i have a scan this week to check growth as baby is apparently big! and have finally brought all the bits that we needed, now only have to get 2 cot blankets in cream, john lewis had every colour except cream this weekend and being pg and v hormonal, you would have thought they had told me my cat had died!

RosiePosie · 30/01/2006 16:35

LL, I've never used that type of sling, but I know they are popular with sling wearers. You might also want to consider a huggababy, which is similar. If you want to get really nerdy about slings, check out www.thebabywearer.com - it's an American site ( I think you need to register ) but lots of Uk slingers use it too and it has reviews of all the Uk made slings as well as American ones. Both the slingeasy and the huggababy get good reviews by the way!

OP posts:
poppyh · 30/01/2006 20:07

Hi everyone hope you are all well.
LL and RP, I Am busy sling shopping myself.
Work on loft has drawn to a halt but Im glad of the peace today.
Not much else to report here, just trying to get everything ready!
Take care all!

Frizbetheexpansionset · 30/01/2006 22:32

Hi all, lots of sling talk! I've still got our old one, so will attempt to use that again, tho just a tomy one, dd didn't really fit well in it with her hip harness last time, so if this one doesn't have dodgy hips it may be better??
Have had dodgy hormonal outburst today at poor call centre employe, but you all know how trying those places can be!
Does anyone else have those horrible pushy pains down below at the moment, I swear bump is trying to break out
Also slightly scared as one of the Feb thread, due 27th like me, has had a show! yikes, this is too early!!

spiker · 31/01/2006 00:07

RP - how far along were you each time you moved? I'm thinking of moving at 37/38 weeks...
