Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

Morning Ladies, glad to hear everyone is doing well. feekerry glad you are out of hospital and on the mend again, it was good that you got to have a scan, I can't wait until I can see ther eis actually something in there, have you had your booking in appointment with the midwife yet?

shortlady did they really say they might change the date due to your age? How cheeky!

knitterati · 16/08/2011 08:37

Kiki - my Dr's / midwife were very disorganised for me as the midwife is off sick at the moment. Just keep pestering until you're in the system (I have a MW appt on Thurs)!!

Feekery - glad to hear you're feeling better. I've had daily sickness and have been feeling dreadful with that, let alone not being able to keep anything down.

Looking forward to the MW appt on Thurs - finally feels like I'm in the system! (still no date for a scan) Although, I wasn't expecting her to come to me, but it'll be nice to go through that at home. Have also started thinking about a home water birth... Is it too early to start thinking about these things? What's everyone else thinking of for the birth?

KikiRC · 16/08/2011 09:02

Thanks, knitterati, yes- I'm hoping to hear from the MW today. I think I need the booking-in appt before the scan, because on the info sheet they sent about the scan it said there was something I'd have to sign in my notes (about the screening tests) Of course I have no notes, yet! I hope she doesn't want to come to my house, because I'm in the middle of redecorating and the whole place is an absolute tip!

I think because I'll be consultant-led and am in a higher risk group for getting high blood pressure that I'll have to give birth at the hospital. I'd probably feel safer with that.

How's everyone feeling at the moment? I'm still very nauseous. Only actually been sick once, but very tired most of the time. I can't stomach much- sherbert lemons and crisps have been my saviours- and I'm eating as much fruit as I can, and when my stomach calms down as many veg as I can. Can't tolerate anything spicy, and usually I love spicy food. Hope you're feeling less sick, Feekerry.

Just over two weeks 'til my dating scan. I've a feeling they may move my dates back or forward a week, as I think I must have ovulated early or late... (i.e. we didn't BD midway through my cycle at expected O time.) Who knows?

KikiRC · 16/08/2011 13:12

Argh, called the surgery this lunch time as I hadn't heard from the MW re: lack of booking-in appt, and spoke to a different receptionist. I don't think the MW was given the message to call me, so I'm leaving a letter with them for Friday morning when she's next in. Hopeless. Trouble seems to be that the MW works for all three practices who share the same building- two sessions a week- and there's little or no communication between them.

knitterati · 16/08/2011 17:52

Oh Kiki, how frustrating! Just keep badgering them - it's the only way sometimes.

I have been feeling so sick the past couple of days, so finally gave in and bought the travel bands. Took a few hours but they have really helped - thank you so much ladies. Not sure why I resisted your wise advice for so long! Blush

happyland · 16/08/2011 20:43

Not very good news, started bleeding an hour or so ago. No real cramps yet and it is around the time a period would be due but hopefully being scanned in the morning.
Feeling very sad.

KikiRC · 16/08/2011 22:17

Oh, HL really sorry to hear that. No cramps is positive though, I think?

I know you're sure to be terribly worried (I'd be exactly the same) but it does seem that a lot of women experience bleeding and it turns out to be fine. My friend had bleeding at 5 weeks, and it was all OK, just one of those unexplained things.

I really hope you have good news tomorrow. X

Moffit · 17/08/2011 11:42

happyland how are you today? Have you had your scan yet? Hopefully you will get to see that everything is fine!

kiki I know how frustrated you must be feeling, I saw my doctor 12 days ago and was told he would refer me to the midwife and I would hear within 7 days. Called the sugery on Monday to be told that I could call the hospital to chase it up myself, but the number they have given me is a recorded message for me to leave my details, I have done this, and am still waiting to hear back, the problem is they asked for a daytime number, but I work in a shared office, so could only leave my home number..........all I want is to talk to a midwife and get a date for a booking in appointment and a scan, is that too much to ask!? (sorry rant over)!

How is everyone else doing?

KikiRC · 17/08/2011 14:44

Hope all is well Happyland.

It is frustrating, isn't it Moffit- it seems that pregnancy and midwifery falls somewhere vaguely in a no man's land between the surgery & the hospital, and neither side seem all that sure what the system is. Neither of the two receptionists I've spoken to so far had heard of a booking-in appt, when it should be, or how to go about organising one.

Hopefully once we've actually made contact with the MW it will all be much more straightforward. I've actually written my MW a proper letter- I'm hoping that has some chance of reaching her.

casperella · 17/08/2011 20:43

Hope everyone is doing ok, esp happyland sounds like you are having a troublesome time of it.

I was grumbling to DH about feeling crappy, and trying to remember how I felt with DC1 and DC2. Turns out he can't really remember anything about these pregnancies - apparently I told him one day I was preg and then about 8 months later I produced DC. This happened twice. I thought it was us meant to have baby brain?!

Carlitawantsababy · 17/08/2011 21:02

casperella lol re. the babybrain! As long as he tells all your friends that version too, it makes you sound like superwoman!
kikiRC and moffit I hope you get your appointments sorted soon, it is so frustrating when no one communicates with each other!
happyland I really really hope you are doing okay and that you are getting the care you need, did you have your scan today?
knitteratiand kikiRC sorry to hear you're feeling sick, hope you start to feel better soon - we're on the final stretch of the first trimester now! Grin I am so glad my midwife appointment (tomorrow!) is not at my flat! I'd be trying to get my dog not to hug her/him whilst shuffling rubbish and dirty socks under the sofa! I am so tired at the moment I get into bed as soon as I get home so the place is an absolute sty! It seems DH only tidies when I do!

happyland · 17/08/2011 21:19

Thank you for all your thoughts today, I continued to bleed overnight and rang the epau first thing this morning. They were able to see me at 11. I really really thought it was all over and there was alot of tears. Still no cramps though, my tummy felt tight but I wasn't sure whether that was because of stress. Anyway fast forward to scan and lo and behold we see a heartbeat and very active baby! Diagnosed with threatened miscarriage and told to take it easy. I am still worried and the midwife said that it may still happen but so far so good.

I really couldn't believe it. The relief was immense.

KikiRC · 17/08/2011 21:56

Oh, that's fantastic news, happyland- you take it very, very easy. X

happyland · 17/08/2011 23:11

Thank you kikirc, hope the sickness ends soon. it feels awful though doesn't it.

Moffit · 18/08/2011 06:59

Glad to hear that the scan was positive happyland and that you saw a heartbeat! Make sure you take it easy and rest lots!

Also just a quick update on the appointment front, I spoke to a midwife last night and she has taken all of my details, said I would be put on the system today and should have my scan appintment by letter in 5 days, also said I will hear from a midwife in 7 days to arrange my booking in appointment! Grin She was from the hospital and said that there was no need to see my GP in the first place I could have just self referred after a positive test. Kiki dont know if it's worth you having a look at the maternity services on the website for your local hospital? You might be able to do the same!

Carlitawantsababy · 18/08/2011 08:14

Grin great news happyland! so what is your plan now? Are you off work and in bed resting? Had you told work you were pg?

OP posts:
Moffit · 18/08/2011 10:42

Hi Carlita what time is your booking in appointment today? Are you looking forward to it? You will have to come on later and tell us all about it!

knitterati · 18/08/2011 12:06

Great news happyland Smile. You just need to put your feet up, have a (decaf) brew and relax!

I had my booking in appt this morning with the covering midwife! LOTS of medical questions/forms to fill out about medical history etc. Bloods taken and urine sample provided. Will need to fill a pot everytime I see the midwife now!! Blush. Also due to diabetes in the family and PCOS, will need a glucose check thingymebob at 24weeks to make sure I'm not developing diabetes.

Also had scan date through for 7th September! Grin

It's all starting to feel more real now! Woo!

KikiRC · 18/08/2011 14:08

Exciting, knitterati, my scan is 7th Sept, too!
X

happyland · 18/08/2011 14:25

I work for my self - so yes work knows I am pregnant!, but alas certainly no resting or feet up for me. Bills to pay etc. but plenty of early nights, healthy food and absolutely nothing strenuous.

I am desperate to go running again but I daren't risk it.

Good luck with your booking scan Carlita Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 18/08/2011 21:31

Well, had my booking appointment this evening, great to get things started off, mug like knitterati's they asked me lots of questions and collected various bodily fluids in various pots. We liked they question "how did you conceive?" Grin my scan is now just two weeks away, can't wait! Grin

monkeybaby2 · 18/08/2011 21:55

Dating scan is booked in for next Weds but I have to change it as I am in the US. Boo, was quite looking forward to it (am still slightly in denial). Met up with a 22 week pg friend today and I was staring at her belly thinking....I can't imagine that being me....It's weird because we've wanted a baby for so long that now it's here, I can't quite bring myself to believe it's actually going to happen!

Is anyone else concealing it from work? My immediate boss knows but thats because she's also my best mate. I work in quite a pressurized environment and is quite specialized so we've decided to keep it a secret as long as we can as she described it... 'will be like a grenade going off upstairs'. We trying to figure out cover strategy before anyone has a panic. Anyone else in a similar spot?

happyland · 19/08/2011 08:01

Is it your first monkey baby? If so you shouldn't have a bump for quite a while, so concealing that shouldn't be too tricky? How much after hours socialising do you do? I always think that's much harder to avoid!

KikiRC · 19/08/2011 10:04

Phew, finally heard from the midwife today. She sounds really nice, and I've my booking in appt next Thursday, a week before my scan. Has anyone taken their partner along to their booking in appt? She said he was welcome- I just assumed I'd go along on my own. I'll leave it up to him to decide, anyway, it's quite difficult for him to take time off work at the mo.

Love the how did you conceive question, Carlita ! Did you take your DP? I assume so, as you said 'we'.

Monkey other than my DP, I've only told three people, not even my parents yet (I'm waiting until I've had the scan.) And nobody from work, either. But I don't work in an office, so it's not quite the same.

Carlitawantsababy · 19/08/2011 10:28

KikiRC yes, DH and I went together, it was at 6pm so we didn't have to take time off. It was nice to have him there, I would have been uncomfortable without him but that's just me, I feel bit Blush about things like being told to pee in a pot in front of a room full of people!
